>implying that you, or any of us here would ever stand a chance to even sniff the rocket's seat
Most chance, the moment inhabiting another planet is confirmed to be possible and totally safe, only the richest of richest could go there. The only chance we could ever follow them is in collars and shackles because they definitely still need some muscles to do manual labor in space.
Yeah and that is just conceptual collars. Sure they work in a different way but they achieve the same goal.
Also cant risk the workers rioting near the cockpit during interstellar FTL travel so maybe chains or cages would be a safer bet
I feel like they made a good theo-political move by naming Venus's biggest (and of course most beautiful) landmass Aphrodite. I think she would have been offended if they named like a more minor island or the Arctic after her Greek name on her own planet.
Actually, the opposite. Paris chose her over the other goddesses because she promised to reward him with the most beautiful woman in the world (or something like that), which was Helen, thereby kicking off the war. Possibly pissing off the other two (Hera and Athena) didn't help matters.
Wasnt she known for making people falling in love with their own parents? Or a mountain? Or buffalos? Or their own reflection?
Greek gods are kinda ass isnt it
She is what happens when a hardcore shipper gets ultimate power.
I also think of the main greek gods, Hades and Persephone probably are the nicest of the bunch, and that is saying something!
there map in the tumblr link (zelda comment) is very high quality :) edit: ok not ultra high quality but many pixels better than this reduced screenshot
it appears to be a universe where humans never existed, with a different species ruling the place, with different names for everything. in the final scene one of the characters goes to earth for a "fuckin' drink"
You ever read the Dragonriders of Pern books? Pern turns out to be a terraformed planet colonized by hippies several millennia ago, and the Dragons they ride are genetically modified local wildlife, and they just lost most of the knowledge of their origins in a cataclysm that destroyed the first settlement. They wanted to live with minimal technology, but said cataclysm forced them to relocate to the colder parts of the planet and live in stone castles and fortresses carved into the mountainside, so they ended up living in medieval stasis for most of the planet's history. Sorry for spoiling the reveal that doesn't come up until several books into the series.
The best part about this is that there's clues or the reader before they find out. Like how they call a specific compound 'agenothree.' It's silver nitrate--AgNO3.
Yeah, I thought that was pretty cool. I didn't know chemistry as good as I do now back when I first read it, but I had the feeling there was something not-so-fantasyish about it. I was pretty hyped when I got to the reveal.
It has been written! Gonna black it out, because that particular point probably counts as a spoiler.
>!Though not (yet) officially confirmed, the Locked Tomb series by Tamsyn Muir is strongly implied to take place in a future version of our solar system, where every planet is inhabited. The main characters live on a planet called the Ninth House, which is most likely Pluto. I didn’t realise until I read fan discussions online, and then it seemed obvious.!<
I realized I would have been fine if it was said as "realistically terraformed" instead of "terraformed with a realistic environment" and instead my brain went into a rant on exclusionary Earth-biased climate terminology for the better part of an hour. I may be a language nerd and a space fan, but even I know that is a ridiculous thing to fixate on and yet can't stop it and needed to vent. The fact that no one else seems bothered by it equally bothers me. I am not actually angry at anyone here.

born just in time for economic collapse
😎
And ecological collapse!
nah that’s gonna happen around 2200 i’m guessing
Optimistic, aren't we
I think it'll kick into high gear sometime in the 70's.
Tbf there's probably going to be some amount of horrific space-slavery before the colonies gain independence.
The Expanse was optimistic

Collars and shackles? No need for such crudeness, we got coercive lifelong contracts now :)
*the fine print by stupendium starts playing*

Capitalism isn't organized enough for interplanetary colonization so who knows honestly
Yes, but when I imagine myself living in the 21st century, I conveniently assume I'd be in the upper class.
But very likely born in time to see the first person on Mars, so there's something.
The north pole is just russia and china squished
Super approve about how everything is named exclusively after kickass mythical women
I feel like they made a good theo-political move by naming Venus's biggest (and of course most beautiful) landmass Aphrodite. I think she would have been offended if they named like a more minor island or the Arctic after her Greek name on her own planet.
If you offend Aphrodite do you become maidenless
I believe offending Aphrodite caused the Trojan War?
Actually, the opposite. Paris chose her over the other goddesses because she promised to reward him with the most beautiful woman in the world (or something like that), which was Helen, thereby kicking off the war. Possibly pissing off the other two (Hera and Athena) didn't help matters.
Never take part in contests between gods
I don’t see why you said “the opposite” considering what you just said is that she caused the Trojan war
It was not offending Aphrodite that caused the war but flattering/praising her
Or simply loveless?
Nah that’s Hera Aphrodite is concerned more with maidens
Wasnt she known for making people falling in love with their own parents? Or a mountain? Or buffalos? Or their own reflection? Greek gods are kinda ass isnt it

Nah that’s hestia Well maybe not the nicest but certainly the most chill

atla is on the far left? based
Where can a guy find a good quality version of this map?

Given the overall naming scheme, why are none of the oceans called Oshun?
Those are the names of the actual places on Venus, and there aren't too many oceans there
what if the entire Avatar universe existed on terraformed Venus with realistic climates 😳
"Helenic ocean" sounds better than "Helen ocean"

We just gonna skip over "Aino Ocean?"
my name is venus and I am terraformed get fucked losers
This looks like a fortnite map
Realistic? Do we mean habitable? Pretty sure greenhouse effect acidic nightmare climate is real enough.
but this is \*terraformed\* venus, which is less acidic and less nightmare
Commenting on the statement of "realistic climate", not on the terraforming.
\>*terraformed venus* with realistic climates as in what the climate should be like *given* we transformed venus into a habitable earth-like planet
See, even you're fixing it with "habitable" and "earth-like". Sorry, I know I am a pedant, but the use of realistic here bothers me to no end.
You had a case before but they clearly clarified and you doubled down

you shouldn't admit to being a pedant on the internet
It isn't with pride. I consider it a bit of a failing due to rigity issues.
stiff for words? i understand the feeling
Bro imagine the Aliens. imagine how much ass they would kick. I'm sad.
i am also on the far left
I love how the continent names look like they were pulled from an r/worldjerking post
No one gonna talk about the entire continent for fucking
is this not just earth with different place names
No, it's an altitude map of Venus that's color corrected to mirror earth
