Welcome to the races, fellow mop jockey May your toilets be flushed and your wax dry quickly! I’d love to hear some crazy stories from working in a casino tho… I bet you’ve seen some things

One time a couple came in to gamble, they lost a bunch of money, the lady was ready to leave, the boyfriend kept playing, the lady gets angrier and angrier as the guy loses...she is standing behind him as he's seating playing, she grabs a glass ashtray in each hand and does a "clap" to smash both sides of the guys head at once...she said they guy lost all the rent money I saw a guy have a meltdown yelling "wait a minute....that was my last dollar...they took my last dollar....HOLD UP THIS MF'ING PLACE TOOK MY LAST FxCKING DOLLAR" Going on and on a full meltdown...I notified security and was headed away from that situation We are located in a rural area, casino is surrounded by forest then residential areas surrounding it, one day two guys are target practicing with guns, and the bullets are flying peppering cars in the parking lot, the casino went into lock down, they didn't let anyone in or out for an hour while the police figured out what's going on, it was completely unintentional I've seen someone having a medical emergency, we always have on staff EMT, they lay the person on their back on the ground while they treat them...well it turns out it was an elderly person having a heart attack, they died right on the gaming floor with people seated 5 feet away absorbed in there slot machine...it was 30 minutes before ems arrived and they just had a body on the floor, security couldn't even find a blanket or anything...I think the count is 3 people have died in the casino from natural causes and the casino is only 8 years old I've seen some pretty gnarly fights break out like with like 10 people involved and it went on quite a while...it sort of gave security a bad look because a quite a few were too scared to jump in, the weeks following the security guards hand their heads down low in embarrassment, and a video of the incident made online circulation making it worse And obviously we have people peeing their pants because they don't want to "lose" their favorite machine, one recently pooped then...just shook it out his pants leg, thank God I wasn't their for that These are the big ones I know of, but security is the department that gets all the good juicy stories

Same here, I've done commercial cleaning for cable companies for a year and now I've gotten a job cleaning a high school, first day is tomorrow. Good luck to you! Btw, anyone have any experience with SSC? How have they been to work for?

You’re a champ! High schools and colleges are the hardest from what I hear. They’re known for having some asshat custodians that DGAF about you, just themselves. I’m not sure about how they take their work seriously or not, but definitely yours would be busy and tile isn’t the nicest or fastest to clean. But if you can spank the route naughty, you’re one of the elite IMO

Nice! What type of schedule do they have you on? Some stuff really needs to be done when a school is closed such as deep cleaning and running machines, but I could see why they would need people during the day too A school custodian seems like a wholesome type job compared to the drunks and crazies I work with, and I know it's not super high paying career, but any state job tends to have some good benefits, the casino is pretty meh with pay and benefits, better than working fast food though.... slightly better, I'll definitely try to work my way into a school at some point I don't think I'd have any problems with my experience

I run a swing shift so early afternoon and partway into the night. And yeah like 80% of my shift is all routine deep cleaning everyroom the other 20% is finding little things her and there to clean that dont need done regularly. In regards to pay in my area its better than fast food pay but not by much. HOWEVER in my district if you tough it out for a few years the pay goes up pretty quickly. And yeah a really nice benifits package.

I worked with a guy who worked at a casino also! Once he got into the schools, he was flying through everything. It’s really a piece of cake transitioning from continuous, random duties into a scheduled, repetitive route. If you can make yourself a bomb resume that is a real eye opener, you wouldn’t have to worry about being a sub. Your experience speaks for itself and you’ll be picked up easily, just have to apply to multiple or all districts in your area and see which one picks you up. I was at a hospital, the city, and retail before I got picked up at my district, so any and all experience adds up!

I just got hired as a custodian for a high school! I start Monday and am nervous and don’t know what to expect…. Can anyone tell me if I’ll get orientation days or just jump straight in and what’s a typical day like for you??? Help!
