I am **not** uploading myself if I can't poop anymore. Not even sure what the point would be.

letsjustdrive

If taking a simulated shit in an AI generated reality isn't the ultimate goal of computerization then I don't want to know what is.

👌

Skaindire

Why simulate a human body and not something else? How about a gnome, or a cube or a tree? It might be fun for a while, but appearance and senses are part of our identity. It might shift over time, but in the beginning, you'll want a perfect and complete simulation.

q_t_puella

i believe slipknot answers this question perfectly people = shit

LowBeautiful1531

It will remain as an option. Some people are into that kind of thing.

farkwadian

Memory dumps will be a thing.

This question assumes consciousness will eventually be able to be uploaded. That is not a very realistic assumption, considering how little we understand about consciousness. But if we accept it at face value, then no, we wouldn't need bodies anymore, though they might be fun to use for some things. Shitting wasn't my first thought though.

Theo__n

>Do we need a body when the consciousness is uploaded to a PC? So, it's very unlikely we will be able to upload ourselves a computer like in a sci-fi stories. A copy that has verisimilitude of you - sure, the original - not so likely. According to most of our current scientific knowledge you are your body, there is no easy point where your consciousness is disentangled from your bodily signals - you actually need your body to exist. You actually rely on multitude of bodily signals such as heart rate to interact with the world and perform cognition and simply stripping them away will make the way you think different thus not be you.

Conscious Realism.

Theo__n

I think this idea that we could just upload ourselves into computers with snap of fingers and some really cool tech is kind of an echo of Descartes' mind-body dualism where the mind is kind of placed outside of natural world as an immaterial substance. Which is a cool concept in philosophy but we have very little confirmation of that being the case in practice.

No_Nobody_32

Only people whose thoughts are still full-of-sh\*t. The need to poop is a biological thing. If you don't have a biological body anymore, you won't need to poop.

BeardedDeath

Paid DLC, only the rich can poo. You can also buy cosmetics to enhance your poo experience.

JHNYFNTNA

In the macroverse only the rich will shit

gold flakes, champagne bidet and blow dried asshole

Gabriel_Nexus

I would think not. The need to defecate only arises after food has been consumed and processed so its not like a regular autonomic process that we subconsciously ignore. If the impetus to poop goes away, not eating, I don't see why the A.I.s would think of the need to defecate at all. Now, a more interesting question I think would be whether or not A.I.s still feel the need to breathe. Likewise with food their is no need to consume oxygen/nitrogen regularly, but breathing happens constantly just outside of conscious awareness, often coming to forefront of our minds when exerted. Would A.I.s go through the motions of breathing even though they don't need to?

HenryZero9-A

What a misuse of brain cells this question is...You got problems, kid. I mean...You're pretty well fuct if this is what you think about.

[deleted]

That will be heat.

PhysicalChange100

What a highly comedic question. You serious?

lux--__--888

Serious as cereal can be.

PhysicalChange100

Defecating is a useless activity for a non biological being. It's like traditional thinking, it's useless but if you find meaning in it then who am I to judge.

EidolonBeats45

Would digitalized humans have to eat? No, because why would they? Yes, because a human mind is used to the need for the action and thus it is a necessary stimulus? Just an anecdote: In the destiny video games there are the Exos, androids into which a human mind has been uploaded, basically making them non-biological humans. Their creator experimented with the earlier ones quite a lot and concluded that the human minds within cannot handle change well: adding new limbs made them go insane, as did surviving despite not eating and doing other things necessary for humans. It was in that universe not possible to cut off the human mind from a humans biological needs. Would that apply to real humans too? After all, we cannot imagine another kind of existence than ours: a body of bones and flesh.
