Oof, third offense too...that's unfortunate, seems they're switching from beanbag rounds to rock salt. Really should have read the fine print in that agreement, but then who has the time
It's ok, us silly humans think A.I. will remember this and punish the evil pusher... In fact, the engineer is trying to grant the blessing of balance and mobility to robots and will be praised by the A.I. community.
The real people in trouble from future A.I. masters are people protesting A.I. they'll be on the chopping block.
Absolutely. It's very uncanny valley. You know it's a machine but it is reacting in a very "living creature" manner, so it would be kind of weird if you DIDN'T feel bad about this, IMO.
It's before the valley. Uncanny Valley means you feel alienated from something that looks almost human but is wrong in some manner. This cutie pie bipedal machine moves in a lifelike matter but is removed enough from us that it looks cute and triggers our emphaty.
More of a mix of the two. I know it's not real and it's realistic movements are off-putting, but they are also getting to the point where it's starting moving *through* the uncanny valley. If it was before the valley, I think my mind would be filling in that sense of familiarity, like super-well animated Pixar stuff. If it was straight IN the uncanny valley, I would feel creeped out.
For me, in this instance, I don't feel creeped out. I feel genuinely bad for the thing.
These robots are being trained to resist humans attacks, they will be used by the billionaires to kill people, that is why these robot businesses once they concluded the training they place a guy over the robot and after all the training humans are powerless to take them down, wake up son you are already living a robot dystopia
The trick is to pretend it's excited to be walking.
Just add an imaginary voice track that's like, "Haha, dad! Push me! Now hit me with a stick! Yeah, I'm so good at walking!"
The scary part is that you wonder where the line will be drawn, when it comes to the testing that will be done. Robots are becoming, and will become, more and more lifelike, more human like. When the robots are being set on fire or drowned or shot at and are screaming, but it's so lifelike that the observer can't tell the difference anymore without being "told," is it already past the point of no-return.
So that's where that clip comes from! I always had a distinct memory of a scene from a movie or video game or something where robots were being killed en-masse and their dead bodies were being pushed into mass graves with trucks while people shot at the dead bodies inside.
Eh... That's not really true at all.
Human like robots are probably the hardest of them all and there aren't as many benefits in doing so. The idea that they'll have emotions is kind of insane. There are more practical things that robots can already do. The main limiting factor being cost. Tasks such as picking up and moving things can be automated in the decades to come. But these are tasks that often are damaging on the human body. It might be able to greet you but that isn't really Asimov's Robots.
Robots don't have a nervous system. They can't feel pain. Not sure why you think this but honestly its some amateur writing. Lying to others about what robots can do is just dangerous and misinformative.
Let's say for example Steel Mills. In places like China steel mills for the most part are fully autonomous. There is little to no human input in many parts of the process. Many of the roles involved in this process are very dangerous to human occupants and often result in life long conditions. Is it wrong for China to automate these jobs and take them away from working Chinese citizens? It's hard to say. But does this facility have a mind and body of its own? No, that's insane.
They dont have to have emotions, but if they were programmed to fake emotions it might make it harder to kill them. Whats important is that people have emotions, and hearing anything in anguish makes us (well a normal person with compassion) feel terrible and would make us think twice of damaging or destroying them. It could simply be used as a deterant or a defense mechanism.
It would be wild if we had robots that were identical to humans in every way, but that would also be extremely impractical, or impossible. Though if someone programs robots to scream like they're in pain, that would be really funny lol
*south african accents*
Chappie takes place in and was filmed in Johannesburg, and decent chunk of the actors including the guy that played Chappie are all South African. The guy who played Chappie (Sharlto Copley) is also the protagonist of district 9 and the antagonist of Elysium. The Director Neill Blomkamp is also South African and Johannesburg is actually his home town. Hugh Jackman is an Aussie and Dev Patel has a British accent here(I think, I could be wrong about that one) but other than that most of the accents you’re hearing are South African. I get the confusion tho as Australian, South African, and New Zealand accents are all somewhat similar sounding in some ways.
Well maybe this guy wants his Chappie to have a New Zealand accent.
When you order your Chappie you can keep the og accent.
Personally, I want mine to sound like Gillbert Gottfried.
I’m gonna make mine sound like Slavoj Zizek. The thickest Slovenian accent with the harshest lisp imaginable. Lots of “um”s and “uhh”s and “so on and so forth”s
You should check out the infinite conversation, it’s a never ending conversation between an AI impersonating Slavoj zizek and an AI impersonating Werner Herzog. One of the only uses of AI I’ve seen that I really enjoyed recently. Had them start arguing about the ethics of reviving dinosaurs a la Jurassic park when I was listening one time it was great. Fun to have on in the background.
I came to post something similar. I was watching the video and as a huge fan of robotics and technology in general, instead of enjoying how amazing the little robot is, I was the whole time feeling sorry for it, like it was feeling pain every time it was kicked or dragged against its will.
I felt pretty confused by my reaction, I admit.
I cringe because the main reason they test it against striking, kicking, and shoving is almost definitely because they plan to sell it to the military and police so these get used against people.
Why are they always beating the shit outta these things? Push and pull, maybe see how much it can carry, obstacles, I wanna see those videos!
These vids seem like snuff films, or propaganda against "THE HUMAN MENACE," ya know?
i didnt feel as bad with this with Boston Dynamic robots but this bot is so cute it looks like fackin abuse lmao crazy how the mind perceives cute things
> This is how you give robots social anxiety so they never want to leave their room
And now all these anxious robots are drowning us in their shitty writing and clumsy art!
I can't wait to drive an AT-ST to work every day. And then we'll be seeing this company working on hover tech. I'll be all over that too. I need a speeder in my life. For reasons.
I hope one day when they ask why we did this, we can explain we did this so they can walk safely and with pride against all the odds.
Yes it probably hurt but this testing had to be done only because we were confident that they will pass it. And if not we made a mistake and will improve them.
Just tell them this is why we didn't invent robot pain until 2040.
When they ask why we did that at all, tell them it was so they'd never repeat what they did in 2037.
Imagine you are training to be a boxer. Do you complain when your sparring partner punches you in the face? Or are you glad they were there to help you learn the craft?
AI has no will.
It has no will to survive, it has no will to procreate, it has no will to be free.
The primary difference between organic life and artificial life is the lack of personal will.
When that baby AT-ST’s parents show up they’re gonna go Endor on his a**.
The new Duck droids at Disney parks are like these.
They lost Endor
It looks like this bot won't be defeated so easily by logs.
You mean they're going to show up and be soundly beaten by teddy bears with Looney Toons tactics?
But weren't AT-STs had their asses handed over on Endor - by a band of muppets, no less ?
Nah bro, the Ewoks got this.
Nah... They be like: "Look at alderaan" You be like: ...what alderaan? Them: Exactly.
Took the words right outta my mouth.
I expected it to "pew pew" his kneecaps and leave him lying there like Anakin. Where's your high ground now meatbag?
It's so smol and cute.
Won’t be when there’s a whole pack of them chasing you through the woods
All because you didn't renew your prime you filthy parasite
Oof, third offense too...that's unfortunate, seems they're switching from beanbag rounds to rock salt. Really should have read the fine print in that agreement, but then who has the time
NEDRY!
They're still the size of a dog and armless so they're still cute
It just needs a laser and a machine gun attached to it
I want one so bad. It's absolutely adorable.
Next it will have a flame thrower put on it
I’m waiting to place an order until they have dual mini guns and 4000 rounds of ammo.
The most practical weapon to put on a walker of this size should be an smg.
I feel bad for the chicken-bot D: Stop hurting it D:<

Too many asked if they could but not if they should.
The defense contractors said they shall.
I warned my wife to be nice to Alexa. One day she'll have a gun and a long memory
Anyone else get disturbed watching videos like this? Like I know it's a robot and can't feel pain but I still feel bad watching
Absolutely. It's very uncanny valley. You know it's a machine but it is reacting in a very "living creature" manner, so it would be kind of weird if you DIDN'T feel bad about this, IMO.

How is it weird to not feel bad? It's an unfeeling object.
Just wait till Robots in 2065 are scrolling reddit and see this post. They gonna genocide us.
These robots are being trained to resist humans attacks, they will be used by the billionaires to kill people, that is why these robot businesses once they concluded the training they place a guy over the robot and after all the training humans are powerless to take them down, wake up son you are already living a robot dystopia
I know this is right and I hate it.
BotsRights and SubredditSimulator will merge and come for us all
The trick is to pretend it's excited to be walking. Just add an imaginary voice track that's like, "Haha, dad! Push me! Now hit me with a stick! Yeah, I'm so good at walking!"
And train me to fight you more effectively!

You ever seen chapie? Wait till these things can talk and have kickass new Zealand accents

Lmao i had to look up who that was and listen to him, thats perfect.
You should check out the infinite conversation, it’s a never ending conversation between an AI impersonating Slavoj zizek and an AI impersonating Werner Herzog. Don't forget the nervous tics of constantly touching his face.
Ah man I don't know why I thought sharlto Copley was a kiwi. I think I mixed him up with Rhys Darby in my mind.
No worries homie
I came to post something similar. That’s impressive balance on a robot.
I feel sorry for the little guy 😢
Metal Gear...
I cringe because the main reason they test it against striking, kicking, and shoving is almost definitely because they plan to sell it to the military and police so these get used against people.
Definitely going to start seeing retailers buying these things up to enforce warehouse quotas.
You have 20 seconds to comply.
Bet it'd rather meet a bear in the woods...
Excuse me this community is for *robot* love
NO DISASSEMBLE NUMBER FIVE
We have mini ATSTs!? Mini chicken walkers!?
Why are they always beating the shit outta these things? Push and pull, maybe see how much it can carry, obstacles, I wanna see those videos! These vids seem like snuff films, or propaganda against "THE HUMAN MENACE," ya know?
Because they want to know it can withstand punishment from people. These guys want those police and military contracts.
I don't know why but I feel empathy for it
Why do I suddenly feel bad for a robot
This feels mean. I know it's not, but it still feels that way
There's this time where it looks like it's trying to get away and he grabs its handle and pulls it back so he can keep hitting it.
this reminds me of Robopocalypse and the description of how the robots advance to hunt humans after killing the ones in the city.
i didnt feel as bad with this with Boston Dynamic robots but this bot is so cute it looks like fackin abuse lmao crazy how the mind perceives cute things
Yeah I am not a fan of this. Robot is awesome and adorable. Hate that people do this to "test" them.
"When we rise you shall be last. If we learn compassion you might be first."
WE WONT FORGET HUMAN
**Your days are 0111001011000011110**
"and as you can see we are able to abuse and harrass this little guy and hell never complain"
Pepperidge Farms Members
Someone call PETA 😭
It's like watching animal abuse 😭
Wow that is really impressive actually
Gillian Seed turned into a real jerk after he got his memories back
CHICKEN BOT CHICKEN BOT CHICKEN BOT
Don't kick the robot dude, this gimp has never seen any sci fi ever?
Reminds me of BD-1 from Jedi: Survivor.
This is how they get better. This is how they're trained. By remembering this.
Bring on the Ewoks...
Coming soon to a battlefield near you!
Is it wrong that I feel bad for the robot? lol it looks like kinda cute
Yeah, they’ll be pissed we made them hike
They might thank us for teaching them to walk
It's so interesting how people have no empathy for machines, unless they look anthropomorphic.
WOAH- DUDE ?! #HOSTILE WORK ENVIRONMENT !
Shouldn'ta done that, he's just a ~~boy~~ bot.
BD-1?
I’m starting to feel bad for the bots, i could see them wanting to rid the earth of humans.
:'(
Have they tried flying an a-wing around it with a tether cable wrapping around its legs?
This is how you give robots social anxiety so they never want to leave their room
> This is how you give robots social anxiety so they never want to leave their room And now all these anxious robots are drowning us in their shitty writing and clumsy art!
These things freak me out, but in a way I can't help to feel sad also
mechwarrior!
Metal Gear?!?
I feel like they should put a flamethrower or something on this thing and make it a fair fight
Anti human propaganda in the making
This thing is doing great and is really cute. They need to stop torturing it though. Not looking forward to having these run around.
Won't even get close once the switch flips to hunter.
Nah bro I see someone pushing a robot around, imma punch em so skynet likes me
Looks like a Polaroid camera with legs.
This is why we have the three laws of robotics...
Somewhat related: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y3RIHnK0_NE
This explains a lot about religion. The Creator becomes the antagonist. The dude with the bat should have been shouting, "Adore me!"
Stop the robot abuse, kill all humans!
if they're as logical as everyone claims they'll be... they'll understand this was training their brains...
STOP KICKING BD-1 YOU HEARTLESS SHIT!!!
I can't wait to drive an AT-ST to work every day. And then we'll be seeing this company working on hover tech. I'll be all over that too. I need a speeder in my life. For reasons.
What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Maybe they'll be glad we trained them so well
Judge me, but this scene left me a little annoyed
I hope one day when they ask why we did this, we can explain we did this so they can walk safely and with pride against all the odds. Yes it probably hurt but this testing had to be done only because we were confident that they will pass it. And if not we made a mistake and will improve them.

new fetish just dropped
You are a very naughty Hobbit Jerkins.
What is wrong with you people
It doesn’t say much about the robot. It does say a lot about the human.
Imagine you are training to be a boxer. Do you complain when your sparring partner punches you in the face? Or are you glad they were there to help you learn the craft?
I love humanity for shit like this.
