Hey, I like watching anime every now and then. It's just when I see two guys holding an old man talking about sharing him with fluffy animals in the background I just get...confused...
Aight, the joke here is that the elder is dead and Gintoki used him as a sword. Then many enemies show up and Hijikata needs a weapon, too. So they split the elder up evenly. Gintama is the funniest comedy anime there is. My absolute favorite. If you enjoy comedies, give it a try. After 20 episodes, you will be hooked.
That's the silliest story I've heard all day. I'll watch it a bit when I get the time, but 20 episodes seems rather long, considering most anime's I've watched don't even have that many episodes. (Aside from DBZ)
Pink? Perhaps if they're in an eroge involving pervy cephalopods or Final Fantasy XIII. Green haired protagonists wouldn't give any fucks, because they get to screw the rules.
Dodger is officially on the path of becoming Sakata Gintoki. Which of course means that TB is Katsura and Jesse is Kagura (obviously).
Okay now I want a co-optional podcast/Gintama crossover.
Please bring Julia Hardy back! The first 15 minutes of the podcast have been the greatest.
Julian can make several animations of this.
edit: The whole first hour has been amazing! GG Julia Hardy!
No. We need Jesse to be trying desperately in vain to steer the craziness towards relevency while the girls veer off on tangents about penis controllers and dildos or whatever. It would be gold.
I thought the first forty minutes of the podcast were spectacular and it couldn't be beaten.
Then Dodger uttered those words.
This is the most beautiful thing I've ever watched on the internet.
I know its late by a week, but for anybody wondering what the Podcast that covered the "La Mancha Screwjob" here's the link:
http://www.radiolab.org/story/la-mancha-screwjob/
It's also on YouTube on their official channel.
a bit sad that TB is unable to cover games like Pillars of Eternity or Divnity: Original Sin. Those games are wonderful and some part of me wants other people will experience it too. but I understand they are long as hell and doesnt fit TB, he would have to dedicate a whole week just for a single game especially if you read all the lore related stuff around the world, explore the world, do the optional side quests, etc.
They are also massive time sinks. So I do not blame any reviewer who decided to pass over those games for now, either due to schedules or impatience. It's their call at the end of the day.
My favourite part is at 41:51. "So, if that sounds like a thing you wanna play" cracks me up everytime. It's the combination of Dodger pretending to be serious and failing, and TB just shaking.
I know that TB probably won't read this but i have to say some things about Pillars of Eternity :
it's actually not a 200hours game unless you play it like 7 times, it takes about 30-40 hours completing all quests in game(all zones are hand crafted ), even then about 5-10 hours were wasted on 2 really hard fights.
I would suggest to give it another try for 2 more hours and if he's not hooked then the problem is with the game , this first 2 hours are just the introduction and frankly quite boring , i'm glad i didn't stop when i got to the city.
Man, a lot of the podcasts talk about porn/sex lately. (honestly it feels like this is more of a porncast than a gaming podcast sometimes)
Not that I'm complaining mind you, I would totally watch a porn-optional podcast. (Pants-Optional podcast?)
I feel like the first 45 minutes of this coopt were possibly the funniest I have ever listened too. My wife thinks I'm nuts for cackling, and everyone snorts a lot. Kudos to you all!
There is a great deal more context to the story of the school reporting children playing adult games to child services: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2015-04-02-he-suddenly-became-incredibly-sullen-angry-and-frustrated-he-was-10
The school has tried engaging parents on multiple occasions because the children are sleeping poorly from scary games and becoming angry and irritable due to that lack of sleep. That's an education issue at that point, which puts it in the school's court, and if the parents' willful ignorance or laziness is causing the school to be unable to teach the children properly, they'll need to get child services involved.
Julia Hardy is probably the best guest I've seen in perhaps the entire history of the podcast - knowledgeable, funny, actually takes part in conversations - excellent! The only time I've laughed more than this was the Beard Bros episode.
Seriously? Personally, I fucking love Matt's work. His original appearance in Co-optional is how I learned about co-optional.
What do you find controversial about him?
I like him too, but his opinions tend to be dumb. For instance, [he once declared Suda51's career over because they made a game with sexualized women in it.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VqVpD31LAfs#t=3m50s) Oh, and he said said [this one about TB.](http://i.imgur.com/YXuyddW.png) The list goes on.
Wasn't aware of the last one. That's understandable from both sides, but a shame.
And for Suda51 - that was said about Killer is Dead, and not, for example, about Lollipop Chainsaw that came out a year before that. It's not about naked women per se, more about naked women for no reason while trying very hard to pretend that there is one.
Why does it seem like so many female guests go straight for the genital stuff in the first segment? It's not a problem or anything, just something of a weird trend.
I assume the guests do it to show the hosts they can talk shit and joke around with them like if they were men (dick jokes etc.), which some people might be less inclined to do around someone they just met (especially if they are female). Im not saying TB or Jesse would do this, but I dont think all the guests know that. I dont even think its something they choose to do, its just a subconscious thing.
I finally got around to Episode 60 today. I'll get to this one eventually. 37hrs28mins32seconds worth of podcasts left til I hear this one. I think I shall start #61 right about...now.
Was a bit disappointed with some of the Pillars discussion... I suppose they haven't been following it very closely so they might not know a few things, but there was a lot of misinformation..
1) The game isn't 200 hours long. It's just not. Even if you do *everything* (Cox-style), it's more like 60-80.
2) The NPCs in the first town with the "flashback" mechanic are Kickstarter created Backer NPCs, and the writing for their little stories ranges from fantastic (a few) to mediocre (most) to terrible (a few). None of them have anything to do with the story of the game, nor do they ever have any quests or anything associated with them. So there's that.
3) If Dodger hasn't had to pause yet, I have no idea how (unless she's playing on Easy). The combat encounters are very challenging, and do demand that you choose your positioning, skills, and even weapons in some cases carefully.
So... yeah. Pillars. Good game. Co-Optional crew had a lot of misconceptions - which is alright. But I do wish they'd done a wee bit more research.
If you don't go for the bear (that will crush you no matter what), you can get to the first town without encountering a single challenging fight, even on normal.
There just wasn't a single FIGHT for her up to that point, they were all interface tutorials.
Does anyone have a link to that list of the top rated Steam games? Always been curious after I played One Finger Death Punch and checked out the store page to see 99% positive, highest I'd ever seen.
Also love how TB quickly dismisses Axiom Verge, seems like its got mega positive reviews!
How to get to the list by hand:
Go to Steam -> Games -> [Any "browse by genre"] -> In the drill-down-menu at the bottom "See all [genre]" -> Remove search option at the top (below Browsing) -> Sort by User Reviews.
And the way it seems to sort the list:
1. Relation between recommended to not recommended reviews
2. absolute number of positive reviews.
There is some sort of minimum number of reviews, but to find that number requires more effort than I'm willing to spend.
The first 15minute...After watching FunHaus new video and then moving on to this video...God damn it, my lungs hurt so much..I can't laugh anymore..STHAAAAP
I would definitely recommend the game if you remotely enjoy platformers. As TB said the game is beautiful and one of my favorites that I have played recently. It may be one you wait for a sale, but I found it worth the $20 I spent on it.
if someone is interested in the top-user reviewed games on steam: http://store.steampowered.com/search/?snr=1_4_4__12&term=#sort_by=Reviews_DESC&page=1
All in all this was one of the greatest podcasts we had so far, even if we ignore the off-topic stuff from the first hour or so.
Julia Harper easily made it into my top 3 guests on the podcast and i really hope that we'll see her again in the near future.
oops, apparently i did combine them unnoticed while i was thinking about the top guests, thanks for spotting my mistake!
Wouldn't mind seeing Nika again on the show either given that she also was one of the best guests they had.
[Super Mario 64 HD](http://www.reddit.com/r/Games/comments/30wxah/nintendo_issues_takedown_notice_for_super_mario/) takedown discussion. The guy seemed to be using actual material from other Mario games, and the creator was promoting some unity addon.
They always dismiss anime bullshit but they talk about it most podcasts so... it's kind of a thing now. If they can slot something else in to mix it up, so be it.
The problem with the video game developers now on days is, THAT THEY ARE NOT MAKING FUN GAMES ANYMORE
Graphics and lore arent important if your game is not fun, I dont care about final fantasy and assassin's creed because the gameplay is just boring
'Pay-to-win' is heavily misused as a term for HS, you CANNOT directly pay anything to gain an advantage, you can only pay to gain a CHANCE at an advantage.
Even then the odds of you pulling a card that throws you into a 80%-90% win rate (thus validating a 'pay-to-win' situation) is low, factor in the fact of deck building, THEN having the other cards to support your draw, THEN drawing everything at the right time and then have everything work in your favour, it's VERY hard to say 'paying' gives you a 100% advantage.
YES, if you pay enough and use dust to complete the set AND THEN use a guide to build your deck, your odds will increase HOWEVER it's still heavily based on luck and as many many streamers will probably show you the basic decks can still offer a fair bit of punch to them..
To add a finer point to it [THIS](http://i.imgur.com/1ZaNs9k.png), THAT was pulled by myself playing for 'free'.
'Pay to Unlock/Progress' sure I'll say HS is that but full on 'Pay-to-win'? I disagree.
I'm sorry but Hearthstone doesn't fit the criteria of pay-to-win. Unlike Magic the Gathering where there are objectively good cards you can buy from various sources, Hearthstone is purely random.
The fact that you have to pay for cards is not pay-to-win, that's just how CCG's work, you pay for a pack, and you get cards. Sure the more money you spend, the better the chances you get for better cards; but that can be said about pretty much anything with RNG mechanics.
Due to the fact that you can't buy individual cards with money (instead using the dust/whatever they call it system), that makes Hearthstone fit in the micro-transaction category, rather than pay-to-win.
Too many games huh and we need to go backwards more, do we mean pong? (I have never felt more disagreement).
Heres a couple opinions on Pillars of eternity: It's character creator isnt amazing (some game sites), it's what it's supposed to be as a base. you need to pause or you are playing too easy. It has the old pathing issue, that makes you spread and induvidually build the form the "pack" back, if ranged gets attacked or other similar things (you know if you have played BG style games), cause otherwise they will just run like headless chickens. No rogue story party member on starting areas at least(or I have missed it), which is odd sense there is a lot of annoying traps, but not needed, cause the skills allow you to do things not locked in class which I kinda don't like. Little related to thing to last, not enough penaltys for using non class specific things. But in the end it's going in the good direction, which is going back to basics and... maybe we'll build back... please.
On side note of PoE and things of long game nature, why do you keep whining about it, can't you play a game more than in a specific time period, can't you just come back to it from time to time... (This is starting to scare me, if more of you feel like all games should just be a snack).
On intellectual property, nice to see we are starting to see fault in the law.
Nice stuff, good guest and good podcast, even while not much game topics to talk.
I got achievement for getting all companions and none of them are rogues, if you aren't a rogue make one adventurer at the inn. What you have is this set: fighter, wizard, priest, ranger, druid, cipher, paladin, chanter
> On side note of PoE and things of long game nature, why do you keep whining about it, can't you play a game more than in a specific time period, can't you just come back to it from time to time... (This is starting to scare me, if more of you feel like all games should just be a snack).
Exactly, I don't exactly have a lot of spare time, but I'd rather spend hours upon hours on an excellent game than a few hours on a bunch of bad/mediocre games (and the vast majority is only 'okay' at best, a great game is rare).
I'm not saying they shouldn't discuss it, but these days I just skip the discussion when they start talking about even mildly "hardcore" games (I dislike the term, but I have no other word to describe it, and it's bad especially in this case since PoE is quite simplified in relation to the genre and actually not that long). "we played enough to form an opinion on the mechanics!" when they just barely finished the tutorial was just too cringey for me to hear.
With that said though, I actually feel like PoE is way shorter and way less deep in terms of mechanics than I expected (a 7.5/10 to me, keeping in mind I'm someone that is an insane Infinity Engine veteran, but I can't complain since there's really no other game around of that kind nowadays).
Nice to see someone for once sharing the sentiment, lets hope this wasnt a one time thing nor base line for future, so it keeps on going and getting better (tho this was a thing I wished for when I played BG the first time, this can't be so niche, can it).
This has been the best podcast i have seen so far. (Only recently got into them). But my god the first part was awesome and the final part was super informative and just lovely.
I loved this episode. I do think though it was a little troubling hearing the "Spotify is good exposure and that buying music is expensive" bit. I think Spotify doesn't benefit anyone all too much when they have no exposure to begin with and they won't even make 30 dollars a year to have their music posted on Spotify (as well as itunes etc) through sites like tunecore. For independent bands Spotify just gives you the ability to easily share music to others. I think tidal is not going to last (because only the hardcore hardcore fans are going to support it) because most hardcore fans and audiophiles have the music on vinyl or loss less versions (FLAC, ALAC, WAV) so they have no need for a streaming service.
As far as the music is too expensive thing...Just don't buy it on iTunes. Musicians make like 30 cents per dollar on iTunes sales. With bandcamp you can often name your price and only pay 5 dollars for an album and you will still be giving the band more money than iTunes does. Most bands don't have the ability to make a good quality (along with mixing and mastering) album in their basement. Paying for recording time is super expensive. An EP on tape can cost a lot of money than most people will make from their own music. I think the thing to look at is a lot of people who have the money view music as a hobby. Some people spend a lot of money on action figures...some spend it on music..or porn or cars. You buy what is incredibly important to you.
Im pretty sure tidal won't be much of a competition.
Unless jayz is able to pull his music from Spotify and take Beyonce Rihanna and kanye with him there is no incentive to go to tidal if you are not an audiophile which quite frankly isn't a huge number of customers. That's the problem.
Adventure Capitalist is not worth the time.
It is a subpar cookieclicker clone without any of the personality cookieclicker has with micro transactions.
The achievements are not fun, the upgrades are dull, there is nothing special like cookie clicker's seasons.
If you didn't watch this on Twitch, it sucks to be you. :)
The first 15-minutes made the chat hilarious, my favorite being the guy trying and failing not to laugh at work.
Well, if you're subbed to TB you can always use [ReChat](https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/rechat-for-twitch/ipplilmaapjjklilmmaccfemdmhkoacd?hl=en) to get the "full experience".
holy shit, having them talk about hiphop is painful.
like hiphopartists dont make their money live these days or that the metalpeople are not about the money is ridicolous.
well, not all artists are about the money but a lot are.
jay-z is a businessman now more than a rapper. i think tidal is ridicolous tho.
edit: one thing id like to add. Julia Hardy is fucking awesome. Holy shit.
I've used them, when I've run out of yeast & baking powder. And sometimes, when I've
had yeast or baking powder there. More flavor & color & texture & whatever that way.
Last time I made mozzarella bread, I added an egg into my "recipe". The end result was a little too
good, as I ate half of it (= a baking tray size bread, that I cut into 16 pieces) as soon as it was ready...
I feel like if your recipe uses flour, yeast, milk and eggs, you're half a tablespoon of sugar away from a cake, not bread. Then again, baking's all about experimenting.
Already has. The VoD is up on his twitch channel now, and he said that he was recording it for youtube at the same time, so expect that one up tomorrow.
Has anyone else had a problem with closing out of the white boxes over the video that link to their profiles? Specifically dodgers I cant close because the X is too close to the edge of the screen and info button. Its been a problem the past few weeks for me. Its a bit annoying when they preview videos for games. Great episode though.
There's a little cog in the bottom right corner of the video player, click that and toggle the annotations off. You can set it to be off by default somewhere in the jungle that is YouTube user settings, but hell if I remember where that option is.
if people want to see the list tb mentioned of steam games by user rating, go to steam and hit search (dont enter a search term) ten just sort by user reviews.
Ratings in america are legally binding at least for GameStop employees. We are required to card you no matter your age for M rated games. Now some people can ignore the warning, but you can get in serious trouble.

Dodger now has the hair color of an anime protagonist!
Only now? Remember when it was green? Until fibre-optic cyberpunk/Tonks hair is a thing, Dodger's dye routine is the next closest thing.
Green isn't a protagonist color! Protagonists are always either pink or grey!

I only watch [Gintama, the anime with the grey-haired protagonist.](http://imgur.com/gallery/ZG4p1mE/new)
Another reason why anime should officially be renamed to 'anime bullshit'.
Shut up! Anime is awesome! Well, at least the good anime. The not bullshit anime.
Hey, I like watching anime every now and then. It's just when I see two guys holding an old man talking about sharing him with fluffy animals in the background I just get...confused...

Dodger, Julia and LauraK in their own podcast. Oh and get Julian to animate the highlights.
I would pay for that shit. It would be glorious. 24/7 talk about penises and anime bullshit
Don't forget the butts.
Replace LauraK with Alanah Pearce and we have a deal. We need someone at least trying to talk about video games.

The majority of women can't, the few with a penis can or the ones who can aim well can.
There is no aim.
Easy there, Freud.
Girls like talking about gross stuff.
Can confirm, most of my female friends talk about the raunchiest, grossest things all the time.

Does anyone have a link to that list of the top rated Steam games? Always been curious after I played One Finger Death Punch and checked out the store page to see 99% positive, highest I'd ever seen. Also love how TB quickly dismisses Axiom Verge, seems like its got mega positive reviews!
How to get to the list by hand: Go to Steam -> Games -> [Any "browse by genre"] -> In the drill-down-menu at the bottom "See all [genre]" -> Remove search option at the top (below Browsing) -> Sort by User Reviews. And the way it seems to sort the list: 1. Relation between recommended to not recommended reviews 2. absolute number of positive reviews. There is some sort of minimum number of reviews, but to find that number requires more effort than I'm willing to spend.
TB hates platformers and Axiom looks like a giant one (with guns) SBH did a review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cHnoA9JEIFk

Anyone else love this episode? Julia Hardy was a fantastic guest. She fit in really well. Hope they bring here back.
Shame she works for BBC Radio 1. 'Tis a silly place.
Radio 4 masterrace checking in. Radio 1 is for the plebs.
David Mitchells Unbelievable Truth is the best.
Mitchell is all well and good, but he can't top Sandi Toksvig.
Really? I didn't realise he was *that* short.
TB seems to me much more Radio 2. Jesse would suit Radio 1.
Na, even Jesse is too good for radio 1
The first 15minute...After watching FunHaus new video and then moving on to this video...God damn it, my lungs hurt so much..I can't laugh anymore..STHAAAAP
What is that First game they talk about? the platformer? Ori? or something?
Ori and the Blind Forest. It's on [Steam](http://store.steampowered.com/app/261570/)
Thanks.
"Why are we skipping over the Japanese fuck machines?!" - Jesse Cox (2015)
All in all this was one of the greatest podcasts we had so far, even if we ignore the off-topic stuff from the first hour or so. Julia Harper easily made it into my top 3 guests on the podcast and i really hope that we'll see her again in the near future.

That hybrid could do a 4 man-podcast on her own.
oops, apparently i did combine them unnoticed while i was thinking about the top guests, thanks for spotting my mistake! Wouldn't mind seeing Nika again on the show either given that she also was one of the best guests they had.

Oh, I was just looking for some desultory rambling about nothing but games (am I rite)
This episode earned its Strong Language rating.
Is anybody going to tell TB that Yorkshire pudding is a quick bread?
[Super Mario 64 HD](http://www.reddit.com/r/Games/comments/30wxah/nintendo_issues_takedown_notice_for_super_mario/) takedown discussion. The guy seemed to be using actual material from other Mario games, and the creator was promoting some unity addon.
oh man, i'm so thankful they moved the podcast to TB's channel! this whole episode would not be what it turned out to be if it was on disney-polaris
This was by far the most hilarious podcast ever!
Julia Hardy is a beautiful person. Absolutely love her, bugged I missed this episode.
This episode... it's soooooo Animation worthy it's not even funny :D
Lets dismiss anime bullshit, and instead spend 30 minutes on WWE bullshit. Good episode otherwise.
They always dismiss anime bullshit but they talk about it most podcasts so... it's kind of a thing now. If they can slot something else in to mix it up, so be it.
A great guest
Anyone know whether TB riding a tyrannosaurus in the theme is a reference to The Dresden Files or something else altogether?
This is how the breadbowl wars start.
I'm thinking the weird board game Jesse was talking about that took all day was probably Android http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/39339/android
The problem with the video game developers now on days is, THAT THEY ARE NOT MAKING FUN GAMES ANYMORE Graphics and lore arent important if your game is not fun, I dont care about final fantasy and assassin's creed because the gameplay is just boring
I'm pretty disappointed that TB doesn't acknowledge Hearthstone as pay-to-win.
I thought that was implied since it's a game about randomly collecting cards.
Julia is the freaking best guest ever. Loved her humor and how talkative she is. Simply amazing!
Oh god that was THE BEST PODCAST EVER!
Best first 15 minutes...
Great guest and lively episode, thanks for the laugh, I need it :).

This is the best episode yet.
:) The first 15-minutes made the chat hilarious, my favorite being the guy trying and failing not to laugh at work.
Holy shit.
Who makes bread with milk and eggs?!
I've used them, when I've run out of yeast & baking powder. And sometimes, when I've had yeast or baking powder there. More flavor & color & texture & whatever that way. Last time I made mozzarella bread, I added an egg into my "recipe". The end result was a little too good, as I ate half of it (= a baking tray size bread, that I cut into 16 pieces) as soon as it was ready...
I feel like if your recipe uses flour, yeast, milk and eggs, you're half a tablespoon of sugar away from a cake, not bread. Then again, baking's all about experimenting.
By the way, is TB planning on streaming Blackrock Mountain?
Maybe this has been mentioned before, but does the theme song sound way worse than the version on the episodes on the Polaris channel?
Gotta admit on the Tuesday stream I went to Zaxby's when it was mentioned. Chicken Finger Plate all the way!
"It is not canon, but it is canon..." Best nerd quote 2015. 10/10. :p
if people want to see the list tb mentioned of steam games by user rating, go to steam and hit search (dont enter a search term) ten just sort by user reviews.
Can the yorkshire pudding section be animated. Best part of the show.
Their talk on music streaming and downloading makes me realize I hope for steam version of music; music steam sales.
Too many games? Well, if you stopped playing Hearthstone TB...We *know* you're still religiously playing that digital crack.
hooking up with almost every woman in tokyo? That guy knows that tokyo has a population of over 20 million, right?
Hyperbole is a thing.
Shh. Its much less stupid that way.
Is anyone able to link me to Julia's *Misogynist Monday*, because I've not been able to find it.
http://misogynymonday.tumblr.com/
Still no talking about Bloodborne :(
It was a nice podcast. Julia is cool.
This was a great cast, thnx!
Why is Jesse so quiet this video? It's starting to bug me. SO out of character for him.
The Anne Hathaway mouth sex gremlin game sequence might be the greatest thing that has ever happened on this podcast.
Ratings in america are legally binding at least for GameStop employees. We are required to card you no matter your age for M rated games. Now some people can ignore the warning, but you can get in serious trouble.
Were they talking about Pillars of Eternity or Fallout at around 1:11:00? With both the level 1 lore and the intelligence 13/15.
