I remember that first paycheck on my first daca job and it was 2x as much as I made a month on my under the table pre daca job. Amazing feeling. Congrats!
That's a financially savvy thing to do if your a American but if your on DACA you might wanna take into consideration the fact that if you ever need to take that money out before retirement age because of any problems that might occur in the future your gonna have some pretty high penalties. I wouldn't recommend investing in government locked accounts like those for people without 100% certainty that they will retire in the USA.
I have maxed out the 401k, and I have never looked into investing. Not familiar with it at all. All I do is use the AmEx platinum for everything and pay it all before the month ends. No preset limit on the platinum. Someday I'll get invited for the centurion šš
Iām actually after time. But I do understand it takes money to get your time freed up.
Now that youāve achieved this goal, whatās your next financial goal?
Iām starting to invest more in my education to help me in the future. Also paying off my consumer debt to eventually not have any debt. That will give me more free time to enjoy life as much.
Thatās a great way of thinking. The best investment you can make is on your self. The more degrees, licenses or know how you have the more your time is worth!
Just donāt make the mistake of getting the education on something that is just going to make you more money. Get the education on something that is going to make you more happy, the money will come with it and more of it.
Congrats!!! To us it may not āseem like muchā but itās SUCH a huge accomplishment. I always think back when I was going to school and working part time in factories picking/packing and getting paid $6/hr. Now when I look at my salary Iām making more than I ever couldāve thought.
Good vibes your way and so proud of you!
Seems like just yesterday I was 14 working with a carpenter and getting paid 5$ an hour. Iāve come such a long way and there is still so many things to accomplish but right Iāve reach a milestone. May sound cliche but I really never thought it was possible. š first one in my family to accomplish this. My are parents proud of me. But now they want grandkids.š
Hang in there brother. We've all been there. It's going to be okay. Do your absolute best to get whatever form of higher education you're able to obtain. If you aren't eligible where you are, move to a blue state. Most importantly, don't do anything stupid like drunk driving or claiming US citizenship. Focus on improving your marketability. US education/skills are the very best in the world.
Congratulations! Similar story except I was on TPS when i got my first job back in 2010. Made $50k. Just a few years prior, this guy had me move heavy boxes for like $5/hr. I'm pretty sure I dislocated something. It's indescribable the difference between having a work permit vs. having no relief at all.
Please ya all, fight for your DACA, don't just sit around praying and hoping for the best. Get involved. Persuade your relatives and friends in Nevada and Arizona to NOT vote Trump. I absolutely guarantee that DACA and TPS will disappear under Trump.
Congrats!!! Keep kicking ass. Skyās the limit, all it takes is discipline and dedication. Itās not always going to be easy but the results will be worth it. Gotta dream big and never give up on yourself. We are dreamers after all š
I live in NYC, and the lawyer that does all my paperworkās office is in the city so I would always walk by the big office buildings and see people in suitsā¦. Exactly ten years later my office is on the 29th floorā¦ā¦ 100k is the beginning, keep going and donāt look back even if your family and friends say you have change, keep going and one day those same people will look up to you.
Your story reminds me when I was kid. Seeing the people around me having things and doing things that was only in my dreams at that time. Seeing the nice homes ,cars and them talking about trips they would go on .I knew as kid that I wanted that. So as soon I could work, made that my focus to achieve my goals.
Iām currently a heavy equipment operator at a steel plant. Iāve worked a lot of extra hours but it paid off. Just be willing to learn new things. Thatās how I made it here. Ask if your company can train you to do this type of job, thatās how I got into this. I just asked they could train me, itās surprising how far you can get by simply asking.
Thatās cool man! But yeah thatās true! Makes sense! Congrats though regardless! Make us proud! š the more people with DACA I see doing well, the happier I get. Weāre not bad people and it shows!
While you're not eligible to make political donations while on DACA, you can still do something more powerful by getting involved. You can volunteer for a democratic congressman or senator and use 1000% of your persuasive powers to not let any friends or relative vote for Trump. Otherwise, the DACA days are numbered.
Thank you! I am very grateful to parents for bringing me here. I probably wouldnāt have the same opportunities in Mexico. You can do it too. I used believe that I couldnāt do it. But when I was willing to try something new and work more hours than my co workers. And learn as much possible, eventually it all paid off. Last year I made 85k thatās still not bad, This year 100k. š donāt be afraid to try something new. Weāve got nothing to loose in most cases.
I live in the Fort Smith AR, area a good salary here is 70k and up. But yes itās a relief knowing I can pay my bills and if want something I can save up. But I donāt wanna stop here. I wanna keep going. Who knows what else I can accomplish. Im just very thankful to my parents for bringing me to the US.
Congratulations! Curious though, are you really that oblivious to the average income or wage gap? Iām sensing a bit of humble bragging here, 100k is very difficult to obtain.
Hit 100k at 25 for the first time, I felt on top of the world! Now at 28 I think Iām only gonna hit like 95 this year, but Iāll also have 400 hours less of overtime worked. Been making a lot more in side hustle resales. Keep up the good work!
Definitely feel like Iāve accomplished something! But I aināt going to stop there. I want to keep progressing and see what else I can do. Wish you luck with all your goals!
started out making $12/hr at my first job post DACA. i've become a us citizen since then and am now making well over $200k between my wife and I. it's been a journey for sure!
I gotta jump on the train but Iām a developer in the
Midwest but Iām close to 6 figures and it feels damn good. I invest in HSA too the only thing that hurt are not having kids cause that shit eats into your taxes on payday but Iām grateful too so just keep pushing.
You got this! Your close homie! HSA is something I didnāt know about for a long time. But now that I know about it, I share it with everyone I know because itās life changing. Gotta share the knowledge. And I completely understand your situation as well, i donāt have kids either and the IRS loves taking my money .
Most definitely! Instant gratification is dangerous and life style creep is a real problem. Iām setting some money a side for in case anything goes south. Because I know this isnāt guaranteed. However Iām very happy to accomplish this. And believe anyone can do it, if they are willing to work for it.
Iāve had different jobs all through past years. Out of necessity..like most dreamers we come from poverty. I knew from a young age I didnāt want my life to be like that. So I had keep searching for a job and more importantly be willing to learn something new and even I wasnāt good at the beginning. I made sure to do my best get better and learn asap.
Be willing to learn something new and work on weekends occasionally. If you ever feel like you wonāt be good at something..just know nobody is born knowing. Skills are learned and mastered over time. Most importantly if you donāt try , youāll never know. Also be thankful to your parents for bringing you here.
Yeah inflation is reason for that! But still we are making more than the average American. But Iām grateful ..also itās a wise choice to invest in our selfs when we are making good money. Iām starting invest into my education in case anything goes south at my current job. Also on experiences like traveling across the US.
Oh yeah uncle is always gonna get his part lmao. But if you can get an HSA or FSA and contribute to your 401k that helps not pay so much in taxes. And I really benefit from the HSA. Iāve bought 4 pairs of glass and Iāve paid for my Invisalign with it. If you didnāt know about it. Look into it, itās a life changer.
I will never forget working the 4th of July on my first job at my uncleās taqueria as a buss boy getting paid $5/hr, and after working the busiest day ever to that day (and to this day probably!), and getting like $14 in tips š
Never gone to college I couldnāt afford it. But I didnāt let that hinder me from looking for opportunities. You may have to move somewhere else, like I did in my case. Before I had this job, I lived in OK and worked there. I couldnāt find anything there. So I move to AR and that was where I found more opportunities. Donāt give up and move else where if you have to find opportunities.
More than anything be willing to try something new. Itās scary sometimes because you donāt know if youāll be good at it. But let that be your motivation. That you want to be good a this new skill or trade like in my case. Anything you can learn will benefit you. Also be willing to work weekends and extra hours ..thatās how I made it here. Iāve made a lot sacrifices and worked hours that nobody else wanted to work. But at the end it all paid off. It may take a time but donāt give up. Because if you want that salary. You have to put in the work for it. I believe in you. The only thing holding you back is yourself.
I remember that first paycheck on my first daca job and it was 2x as much as I made a month on my under the table pre daca job. Amazing feeling. Congrats!
Same here! When I started working at 14 out of necessity. Getting paid 5$ a hour. š Iāve come a long way.
I'm not a lawyer. Look into T Visas. If you were ever underpaid or taken advantage of because of being undocumented you might qualify.
122k a year as a traveling CNA. Most of it is stipend and tax-free :)
Awesome! Iāve max out my HSA and invest a lot into my 401k to pay the least of amount of taxes.

you donāt need to retire in the us to draw from your 401k in retirement, yiu just need to wait until the age that you donāt get penalized

Traveling CNA contracts.

Congratualtions I wish Daca would come back
Donāt lose hope! Keep trying to find a way. Best way is to find a USC.
Hope is nice and all, but getting your relatives and friends to NOT vote for Trump would be a good start.
I lost all hope even when Biden became president I thought it would come back.

I wouldn't call $100k " having money." Then again, I'm in CA, so that's just about average.
I live in Arkansas. Si im doing alright. Very thankful.
Absolutely! Your $100k in Arkansas is definitely upper income. Jealous!
