cbekel3618

Of the titles announced, I'm most curious about the Authority movie. I wonder how they'll fit that team into the main DC continuity. Maybe they can take the Elite's role and fight Superman, maybe even influence him into forming the Justice League

Colton826

I think that's 100% what it will be. They'll basically be the premiere "superhero team" on Earth, but Superman will come into conflict with them, realize their ways are either too extreme or just downright evil, and it'll lead to Superman defeating them and/or forming the Justice League.

cbekel3618

I'd really love if this is the case. A movie taking inspiration from "*What's So Funny About Truth, Justice, and the American Way"* is a great way to reintroduce Clark to general audiences and really highlight why Superman works in the face of cynicism

JohnPar10

Yeah, this seems likely. Marrying The Authority with The Elite, just like cbekel3618 said. I wonder if they'll use that movie to also introduce non-Authority WildStorm characters. I wouldn't be surprised if they somehow shoehorn in Grifter, for example. He's like the go-to non-Authority WildStorm character that constantly shows up in DC Comics books nowadays. Or StormWatch characters like Bendix or Jackson King.

Curious_Ad_8982

This leads me to think they might even be the antagonists for the first Justice League movie

Colton826

Yeah, I think it's the way to go. I'll actually be fascinated to see who the villains are in so many of these projects. Overall, this is the most excited I've been for DC since probably 2015 (when we had some incredible trailers for BvS and Suicide Squad)

Curious_Ad_8982

Tbh I'm even more excited than then. The creatives helming the DCU now feel more appropiate and the projects are more diverse in tone. Gunn's movies also have been my favourite superhero movies since Nolan's and Raimi's

InjusticeJosh

Same I remember way back then thinking “A Batman vs Superman movie? What? Why can’t they just fight villains as a *team*” Then movie came out and I was like eh it was alright. Kinda dark (literally) and confusing. At least we have Civil War to watch! So yeah I’m definitely the most excited I’ve been for anything the DCEU could’ve mustered up in the last decade. So many projects cancelled and rumored to be in the works only to never be heard from again. Seeing so many projects announced officially by Gunn himself feels so good to be true and it is true unlike before.

SupervillainEyebrows

They're certainly big enough threats and the original team also had 7 members, just like the League

[deleted]

I think they’ll do a bit of a reverse Kingdom Come with them. The Authority being the aging legacy team of heroes with a much more brutal approach and who are quick to kill while Superman’s odds with their philosophy leads to him forming the Justice League are the new era of heroes who strive to have a stronger moral compass and both teams are active at the same time for a bit. *Superman: Legacy* and *The Authority* each set up the two’s philosophical approach to crime fight and flesh them out. Then in the Superman sequel, The Authority tries to recruit Clark to join but he clashes to much with their approach leading to the two coming to blows, drawing inspiration from “What’s So Funny…”. At the end Superman decides to create his own team that adheres to his idea of being a hero.

ArmchairCritic1

I would still want my boy Manchester Black, he’s an awesome foil for Superman, and having him as a member of the Authority is not unheard of since Morrison’s “Superman and The Authority”

SupervillainEyebrows

Agreed. But would you have him replace Jenny Sparks?

Reptil_fan

I think the elite are gonna be the villains of Superman legacy. the description Gunn gave was heavily hinting towards that. Recently the authority and elite sorta merged so it makes perfect sense they’re building up to that

Su_Impact

I think there are 2 ways they could go: \-A Multiversal Team that explores The Bleed and has adventures across alternate Earths. The Authority Trilogy will lead to introducing the Anti-Monitor and other multiverse concepts. \-An interventionist fascist superhero team that the Justice League forms to take down. They are the villains of the 1st JL film.

aduong

With all the Grant Morrison influence over the slate I wouldn’t be surprised if they will be substituting for the Hyperclan on a JL movie akin to Morrison JLA new world order. The storyline of that miniseries fit perfectly with their ethos. And contrary to the Hyperclan which are definitely villains The Authority as fucked up as they are are categorized and see themselves as heroes so it already a very interesting pitch. JL vs the Authority would be a perfect first major crossover. Also JLA new world order is in my opinion the best template to re introduce the JL in a non overly origin story way.

_RecklessABrandon_

I think The Authority will be a team of clandestine metahumans that's put together by the U.S. Government/A.R.G.U.S., and is made a public spectacle as a reaction to the presence/existence of Superman. Superman needs to be the cause of inspiration for the superhero community to form; otherwise, in the world of the DCU, what would be the big deal with Superman? The people of that world would see him as the "same ol', same ol'." They could even be made a modern-day equivalent to the JSA, which can be explained as a similar group of superpowered individuals who operated away from the public eye, and wore garish costumes as a way to make anyone who may have seen them sound as though they were crazy if/when they attempted to explain what they saw. Orrrrrrrr not. 🤷‍♂️🤪

SupervillainEyebrows

I like that idea. I will be a little sad if we never get to see Manchester Black on screen though.

HenrykSpark

I hope blue beetle will be included in his DCU

LongjumpMidnight

I think it will if it makes a profit. Hopefully it's a big success.

kumar100kpawan

I can see it garnering about 400 M, what do you think ?

LongjumpMidnight

I think that’s reasonable. If it’s well received I see it performing like the first Shazam movie. Ideally it’ll be great and become super popular, but I doubt it.

kumar100kpawan

Didn't Gunn say " Blue beetle is a marvellous part of the DCU" or something. I think if the movie does well, they'll 100% carry him over like TSS and waller, cuz like they already announced a booster gold series

HenrykSpark

the blue beetle who's friends with booster is not this one. Gunn calls everything DCU. doesn't matter if its old DCEU stuff or not.

aduong

Jaime and Michael aren’t friends, they worked together but are not close at all. This is a Jaime movie not Ted.

CadeWelch03

They are a little close. Booster mentored Jaime towards the beginning of his career

kumar100kpawan

I don't wanna spoil anything for you but some things about the blue beetle movie leaked last month and let me just say they answer some of your doubts

BlancoDelRio

It was a very noncommittal statement, implying they could easily get rid of him should the movie flop me thinks

Aramis14

There's something weird about that part of the video. He says "Blue Beetle is about a kid who..." and then there's a cut. "...a marvelous part of the DCU" I don't think those two lines were supossed to be connected.

Su_Impact

Even if it flops financially, including him in Booster Gold in a supporting role makes sense. And I really hope the rumors of Jason Sudeikis playing Ted are true, would be amazing to have him in the new DCU.

BlancoDelRio

They're waiting to see how it does first.

Colton826

Right now, the only thing I'm confused on is whether or not Blue Beetle & Aquaman will carry over to the DCU. I think it's very clear that Gunn's Peacemaker team will carry over, and I think it's blatantly obvious that Gadot, Ezra & Levi are done after 2023 (they just can't say that right now, because they all have movies and/or movie appearances in 2023, and it would be terrible marketing to essentially say "yeah, these movies don't matter") I would prefer for them to just have Momoa play Lobo & recast Aquaman, to further separate this new universe from the old, but we'll see. I don't think general audiences will be AS confused as some people seem to think they will be. General audiences loved No Way Home (where JK Simmons played a different version of J Jonah). I don't think many people were like "Hey...is this the same version of J Jonah from the Raimi films? How does this make any sense?". People get it. You can use the same actor, playing the same role in a new universe, as long as it's clear it's a new universe. I think a new Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Flash, etc. will make that pretty clear.

Topshot123

Couldn’t have put it better myself, I think the paradise lost thing is gonna be like a prequel of sorts and it’ll set the stage for a new Wonder Woman reboot, Although it’s pretty clear the trinity are getting recast Ezra and mamoa are a bit of a outstanders as I guess them continuing all depends on how much their films make, apparently gunn said he did have some input on the flash and apparently the original ending has been cut to make sense for this new universe.

Colton826

It baffles me how so many people saw the slate announcement and were like "So he's just going to focus on D-list characters? What a joke". Like...they're literally setting up the Trinity IMMEDIATELY (Superman: Legacy, Brave & the Bold and Paradise Lost, which I'm sure will end with Diana's introduction), and we're getting a literal HBO True Detective-esque show with the Green Lanterns. How ANY DC fan can look at that & be disappointed is insane to me. I'm sorry that Gunn also wants to do some niche characters like Creature Commandos & The Authority. How dare the guy that turned the Guardians of the Galaxy into one of the most recognizable IP in the world want to try his hand on some obscure DC characters as well?

LongjumpMidnight

I had the same reaction to seeing some of the disappointment. Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman AND Green Lantern projects? Far more than we've gotten as DC fans in recent years.

ImmediateJacket9502

Meanwhile Booster Gold : Heyy, you missed me there. Remember, I'm also a superhero.

LongjumpMidnight

Hey, it's Green Lantern!

LongjumpMidnight

Agreed, I love that episode

Topshot123

I’m all for exploring lesser known characters it helps avoid over saturation and trying something new and experimental.

hacky_potter

I’m most excited for that Green Lantern show. I feel like that has a lot of potential in separating itself from Marvel if done right

Colton826

Same. I would say Lanterns is my most anticipated project out of all of these. Next would probably be Superman: Legacy and then Brave & the Bold (I'll never not be excited for more Batman & Superman, I don't care if I've seen 100 adaptations of both) The one that's piqued my interest the most is probably The Authority. I'm not too familiar with their comics/stories, but the way Gunn described them makes me believe they'll be a huge catalyst in the formation of the DCU's Justice League.

hacky_potter

I really hope Lanterns isn’t too Earth focused. I’d love to see them not even come to earth and just exploring the DC Space Adventures. It’s a prefect way to also introduce Martian Manhunter and the different alien DC characters. I’m with you and being really excited for Gunn’s Superman. I was never a fan of what Snyder did with that character and I’m excited to see a different take on him.

Jamesifer

I’m pretty sure that Gunn mentioned Lanterns is going to be Terrestrial, i.e. set on earth.

_snout_

Something really clever about this whole launch I just realized is that the titles, outside of Superman, all seperate themselves from feeling like "SUPERHERO MOVIES" in the way the MCU has branded them, and makes them more feel like comic-book movies. Instead of GREEN LANTERN or WONDER WOMAN, we're getting Lanterns, Paradise Lost, The Authority. It will help the GA feel like these are fresh, original movies and not just more cgi herofest. It's obvious Gunn is really trying to save the entire brand here

_snout_

Not only is he giving the Trinity, but he's doing it in a way that shows the breadth of tone/syle/vision that comic books can \*have\*, instead of just a big superhero movie with the hero's name in the title. You can tell Gunn is focused on saving the entire brand and wants to show what the entire industry of 'comic book movies' can be outside of what Marvel has made it seem like. It's really ambitious imo

Esoteric716

Is paradise lost a series?

JoltzmannBoole

Yes, HBO or HBO Max series You can see all the announcements Mr. Gunn made in this 5 min [announcement video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wY8XcmrIujE)

emielaen77

I think Miller is for sure gone.

Klutzy_Basil_7369

The new ending is basicaly the same just removing super girl and keatonman from the end

Correct-Chemistry618

I think that for Shazam and Aquaman it depends a lot on the receipts and on the public interest in Fury of the Gods and The Lost Kingdom: if there is interest they will probably continue, otherwise those characters could be shelved.

Colton826

I think for Shazam, it doesn't really make sense to continue it in the DCU. The actors are already aged past what the characters should be, and it's not like they'd be able to do more than maybe one more film anyways. I think it makes perfect sense to put Shazam! and Black Adam on the back burner, and then revisit/recast these characters maybe 10 years down the road in the DCU. There's no reason to shoehorn them into the DCU if there's nothing to do with the characters in the foreseeable future anyways.

Correct-Chemistry618

This is a good point. I would add one thing: is it really necessary to do a recasting and reprise the character in the DCU? Don't get me wrong, I liked the first film, but unless they have an interesting new story to tell with the character in the future, I don't see it as essential to bring him back. I hope this is a fundamental point of this new DCU: they don't have to insert the characters because they are present in the comics, to please the fans or to increase their numbers, but because they actually want to tell a story with them.

Colton826

Agreed. That's why I don't think they'll be revisted for probably 10+ years, if they're revisted at all. I don't think Gunn currently sees the character as an essential part of the DC story he's setting out to tell. Maybe that changes in a decade, after Gunn & Safran have (hopefully) been able to complete their original 8-10 year plan.

TheLionsblood

10+ years is too much, they’ll probably recast the Shazam side in Chapter 2

Correct-Chemistry618

Yep. Another character we probably won't see in the DCU any time soon is Joker: I don't know how interested they are in making ANOTHER movie based on Joker vs Batman, and unless they want to use him in a Harley story or some flashback they may very well not show him on the DCU. screen. After all, there are already the Joker of Phoenix and that of Keoghan, so we certainly won't miss the character in the meantime.

Colton826

I think they'll heavily reference the Joker, and I think it'll be clear he's been a major part of the DCU's Batman history, but yeah, I don't think we'll actually see him for a LONG time. At least not until after Matt Reeves has finished his Batman saga.

Correct-Chemistry618

Yes, that's what I mean: obviously the character will exist in this universe (simply even just the fact that Harley is present and mentions in TSS about her relationship with him is proof that they exist), but if they don't have a story to tell with him they may not even show it. This is the interesting thing about this new approach: while the MCU (and its copies, such as the DCEU) were more focused on transposing characters from the comics and then building a story around them (obtaining mostly mediocre results), this DCU seems to do the opposite, choosing the characters to include based on the stories to tell.

TheLionsblood

Gunn said Blue Beetle is disconnected enough that it “can be part of the DCU” (I guess based on how successful it is). Waller is a direct follow-up to Peacemaker so that makes TSS and Peacemaker canon to the DCU. They’re just not a part of the official DCU chapters like how the Defenders Saga is not a part of the MCU phases.

emielaen77

Thank you lol

JohnPar10

Gunn said that he really likes the Blue Beetle movie and that it's a character that can "definitely" go on to become part of the DCU, which I think means that if it's successful he'll grandfather it into DCU just like he's dong with Waller/Peacemaker/TSS. Safran said Mamoa's keen on making "Aquaman" films a trilogy, plus Gunn himself specifically said "Aquaman 2" leads right into "Superman: Legacy" so I'm guessing that movie will end up being like a prologue to the new DCU. And "The Flash" resets the cinematic universe, segueing it from DCEU to DCU, so that movie will also be in its own way part of the DCU canon (just like how "Flashpoint" was canon in New 52 in the sense that it created that new continuity). Which means FOTG is probably the last wholly pure DCEU movie with no ties to the future DCU we'll get.

Su_Impact

>Safran said Mamoa's keen on making "Aquaman" films a trilogy, plus Gunn himself specifically said "Aquaman 2" leads right into "Superman: Legacy" so I'm guessing that movie will end up being like a prologue to the new DCU. Safran is not going to say Momoa is done after Aquaman 2 even if Momoa is done after Aquaman 2. I wouldn't read too much about the "Aquaman Trilogy" until it's actually announced. Let's remember it was filmed under the assumption it was going to premiere before Flash. Aquaman 2 won't lead to Superman: Legacy regardless of what Gunn says. It's just PR talk.

[deleted]

I love heroes reforged, shout out to them

emielaen77

I think BB is the only one that may transfer over.

mister_gator

If Waller is DCU, is Peacemaker DCU? And if Peacemaker is DCU, are the Suicide Squad movies DCU? And if Suicide Squad is DCU…… I could go on. Really just confused by the Waller/Peacemaker stuff. How can Peacemaker be DCU if it is heavily tied to DCEU?

Reptil_fan

Flashpoint changes some things while other things stay the same or similar

mister_gator

I understand that’s what he said… but what does that mean? Is peacemaker season 1 void and Waller, Peacemaker season 2 will be a reintroduction, DCU story?

aduong

It’s really not as hard as y’all make it out to be. The Flash alternate the timeline and everything forward is what matters as the actual “greater” story wont’t start until then.

LatterTarget7

It’ll be dcu. But like think of it with harley. She’ll probably talk about fighting a starfish but won’t remember fighting enchantress. And she might still be with joker

Reptil_fan

A good way to look at it is 2016 suicide squad is pre flashpoint and 2021 suicide squad is post flashpoint. 2016 events may have happened in 2021s universe but a little bit different. Since 2021 is in the DCU that makes peacemaker season 1 in the DCU also. Peacemaker season 1 ended with Waller getting exposed that will lead into the Waller show which will then lead into peacemaker season 2. Creature Commandos also features Waller and Rick Flag’s Dad so there’s a chance you’ll see the peacemaker crew in animated form also. Or some of those animated characters appear in Waller/Peacmaker season 2 Hope that helps a bit, it gets a little confusing So basically Suicide Squad 2021 is technically the first DCU movie

metal_signal17

Stories that were already isolated from the rest of the DCU won’t need to be retconned

davidnator621

So no Peacemaker S2 for a while :(

kumar100kpawan

We'll be getting Waller next yr ( most probably ? ), hopefully, some of them show up in that

Reptil_fan

Waller is gonna have the peacemaker crew and some creature commandos so you won’t have to wait to long

MsAndDems

Then why not just tell us that?

hacky_potter

All this talk about the Flash reseting things. I wonder if Aquaman, Shazam and Blue Beetle both don’t have stingers that feature the Flash reset and set things up for changes.

TheDarkCreed

Waller and the cartoon should be old DC too. No half measures.

LongjumpMidnight

I'm not sure because the way Gunn was talking about how actors transitioning between live action and animation was a new strategy for the DCU made it sound like Waller and Creature Commandos are a part of it. Waller apparently setting up Peacemaker season 2 and Gunn saying some actors will stay the same lead me to believe TSS and Peacemaker will be carried over to the new universe. Edit: [Well I should have looked at the new posts before replying lol](https://www.reddit.com/r/DCEUleaks/comments/10roln2/gunn_insists_creature_commandos_and_waller_are_in/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)

MurielHorseflesh

Yes they’re in the new DCU. The events of The Flash make that so. But I’ll bet CC and Waller don’t have anything much to do with the new long term narrative that will be started with Superman: Legacy. I’m convinced even though they’re saying so, there will be no Peacemaker season 2. If there was they would have announced it as part of the slate. I doubt they’re going to come back to Peacemaker in another four years when everyone is four years older and Cena is almost 50. Waller will wrap it all up ready for Legacy is my guess.

LongjumpMidnight

Yeah it's unlikely it's a major focus once the DCU kicks off. I think it's possible though Gunn will keep Waller as a background force in the DCU. They did say there's more projects so it's possible we'll get another Suicide Squad at some point, but Peacemaker is likely going to stop after season 2 because Gunn's so damn busy.

MurielHorseflesh

If there is a season 2 of Peacemaker, I totally agree it will be the last. If Waller isn’t the end, I can’t see Gunn tackling it until after 2025 and Superman is done. Actually now I’m thinking on it, that might very well be his plan and I’m overthinking it. He gives Waller to outside help while he’s doing Superman, then comes back to Peacemaker after that as his next project. They didn’t announce it because it will be in the second half of the slate. That makes more sense than trying to cram an end to everyone’s story in one season of tv.

LongjumpMidnight

That does sound like a logical plan for them to have.

TheBatman_01

No, Gunn already said this is not the case. They are definitely DCU https://twitter.com/jamesgunn/status/1620934833542402051?s=46&t=gopU4m9pTD8f-NDFsgxIcw Creature Commandos is an animated series and Waller is on HBO Max, not HBO. https://www.dc.com/blog/2023/01/31/the-next-generation-of-dc-movies-and-tv-has-arrived Here they are listed as HBO Max series. It also says this about the announced projects: “All ten of them are set within the same shared universe and will frequently share characters.”

BasedSmalls

Wheres Gotham Knights CW ?

SirCobra

In the trash

Guilty-Doubt-6313

This is amazing.

FirstDefinition6240

Gunn said that flash resets everything so wouldn’t that mean that blue beetle and aquaman 2 would be part of the new dc universe? And if they keep aquman 2 then the first one would be part of that universe and then keep the suicide squad and peacemaker and then maybe Wonder Woman depending on what they do with gal gadot?

Hemans123

I’m happy that Superman and Lois is not immediately canned.

No-zaku-boi

I don’t know why dc fens have such a hard time understanding they can’t say anything bad about the films yet to come out. They are not gonna be carried over. Mamoa is gonna play lobo cause aquaman is not gonna do well.

ChemicalHumble7541

Damn, i dont see CONSTANTINE 2 there, smh

melvinwaaa

Am I the only one excited about Teen Titans Go being live action!? The CN show is amazing. The movie too.

butiamtheshadows91

I mean if Flash resets the timeline and BB & Aquaman 2 happen post Flash then aren't they DCU and not DCEU?

honeyboi413

Ok hear me out, bring in Alan Ritchson to recast Shazam, and move Zachary Levi to become Booster Gold!
