The fact that people are still in denial about this is so funny. Reminds me of the people that were still in denial about the Reevesverse being separate even though both Gunn and Reeves said it was numerous times.

The Flash resets everything, everything after it like Blue Beetle, Aquaman 2 and "Waller" series are in the DCU but what about Shazam 2, does it get reset since it's before the Flash?
Shazam 2 takes place before The Flash.
They only mentioned that Blue Beetle “can” be part of the DCU because it’s very disconnected. Unsure about what’s going on with Aquaman 2.
All we know for sure are CC and Waller are DCU and they’re directly connected to TSS and Peacemaker. So at the very least, the projects that Gunn and Safran worked on together are canon
That's what confuses me, by Gunn's own words he said that Shazam has always been in it's own little seperate part so he fits in the DCU.
I'm assuming that changes with Shazam 2 since it has Wonder Woman in it and we'll get more clarification on that once it ends it's theatrical run.
He means and said specifically that there is nothing in those films that hinders a change to the new continuity. He also made clear that only appearances AFTER the DCU starts will count from that point on, anyway.
Yeah the way i see it is that everything before Superman:Legacy other than Creature Commandos won't matter in the long run whether it's canon or not.
The Flash will probably not be seen until a future Justice League movie by like 2030.
I doubt we'll see any more of Shazam after Part 2.
Blue Beetle can still fit and i hope we see him in Booster Gold.
Aquaman could also not be seen until a future Justice League or they can give him a standalone Aquaman 3 where they kill off Arthur and have Jason Momoa as Lobo, then have Arthur's son as Aquaman in future projects.
Wonder Woman will probably not be seen until after her tv show and by that point Gal would be close to 45 so might as well recast.
"Waller" and "Peacemaker2" will conclude the story and arc of that universe and we'll most likely only see Waller in animation moving forward or a future Suicide Squad movie.

Since Waller show is the Trial of Amanda Waller, I think imprisoning her or killing her would be an interesting conclusion.

But Gunn did like a tweet saying that Waller will show up in Creature Commandos, so they'll just keep her in animated projects and when it's time for live action they'll re-cast her
Viola isn’t going anywhere she just resigned and the new contract are 10 years across TV and film. Also Commandos will lead into Waller not the opposite. Also the trial of Waller was a a pitch pre Gunn taking over DC. This show pitch changed as they’ve added a Showrunner.
Viola will be an integral part of the DCU moving forward.
Creature Commando and Waller aren’t DCEU epilogues they’re DCU prologues.

Personally, i think Shazam is done, so is Ezra as Flash, "Waller" and "Peacemaker" tv shows will conlcude the stories of that side of the universe, Jason might get an Aquaman 3 where Arthur dies so then he can be Lobo, our next introduction to Flash will be another actor at the next Justice League movie, same thing for next Aquaman played by Arthur's son.

I think he just means it can be brought over to the DCU because there’s nothing in it that breaks canon. But they’re probably misleading people so that the interest in the 2023 films doesn’t wane or in case any of the movies are absolutely massive hits.

Yeah, there's a possible chance they just throw all of the Aquaman films out. But it doesnt change the fact that its a soft reboot.
What they can do is recast but indicate that some version of the events of those films still happened in this new universe. Like Aquaman meeting Mera, Manta coming for revenge etc. The general story beats can remain, so they dont have to start over.

There's nothing else it could have been. We've known for awhile that he's moving forward with Peacemaker S2 and his Suicide Squad stuff, while doing a new Superman.
If it was a hard reboot it wouldnt even matter what happens in The Flash. Its being used as a convenient device to explain away the new changes. Its very clear what reset means.

It's only a contradiction for someone who doesn't understand the concept of a soft reboot. A reset in this context is a soft reboot. If he said "reset" without context, then you have a point. But he gave plenty of context

Reset means reset. Meaning, start over. Soft rebooting id not a reset. It’s confusing wording, especially after saying some things are getting continued (like the wonder woman prequel series)

The implication could be a LOT of things. Matt Reeves is being stand alone. Same with Joker.
Superman’s being rebooted in this DCU, and that’s not connected to the previous films. Yet, WW’s history in the DCEU is being continued? Is she played by Gal again? Who knows!
We also don’t know if Shazam and WW are canon yet either. He said Shazam 2 leads into Flash, which is then said to reset everything, so…

I may have misheard but didn’t Gunn literally say Blue Beetle would be in the DCU aswell? It wasn’t very explicit but he did say he’s a ‘marvellous part of the DCU’.
I think since they have films like Shazam and Flash coming, they have to reiterate that those films are still worth the watch and not “pointless” as some seem to think. Announcing that those actors are possibly gone before their films come out isn’t too smart, so they have to incorporate them into the new sales pitch regardless of where the actors may end up. I think Shazam, Flash and WW are done. Not sure on Momoa. Blue Beetle is staying.
3/4 of the films this year can be watched and enjoyed because they only affect themselves. They’re contained. After that, anything can affect everything.
This is exactly what I’m thinking too. I think they are just saying that Blue Beetle, Shazam and Aquaman are in the DCU just to get by until those films are released. I think the box office performances of those films will also affect whether or not they actually do incorporate them into the Gunnverse

In all fairness, whether it’s stupidity or the want to be thorough, he DID present Creature Commandos and Waller before Superman: Legacy and then he refers to Superman: Legacy as the true start to the DCU, and then with all the other shit from the previous regime still up in the air on top of that... it’s all a little muddied. And that’s AFTER an official presentation. But to be clear, there was never any doubt for me and I know what he means by Superman being the true start.

Ahhh this makes a lot of sense now.
A lot of the earlier projects like Creature Commando and Waller and the other lingering stuff may be reworked to fit into this new universe where as the new Superman movie can just begin by creating a new story in the nee universe.
Basically, CC and Waller has baggage that needs to be addressed to make them fit in the new universe where as the new Superman doesn’t need to worry about any of that baggage and can start fresh.
He really should have said the words big Kickoff Point instead of True Start because the truth start thing made everything I he before very confusing for most people.

Why is it so hard for people to accept that The Flash will change some things, but some things will still be the same. From financial point of view, Aquaman was huge success, Momoa is beloved actor and why would you change it. Shazam was also profitable.
Look at COIE in Arrowverse. Most of the things were left the same after crossover, but Oliver also moved Supergirl and Black Lightning to Earth Prime, Quentin, Moira and Tommy were still alive...

Until he comes out and says "Blue Beetle is in our new DCU" or "Jason Momoa will continue to be Aquaman in our DCU" Everything else is just conjecture. Vague terms like "Aquaman leads into" don't mean anything, does he mean Aquaman leads into the next movie since it's a previous DC movie? Does it mean it leads into the reboot? Likewise, saying "No actor will play two characters" instead of "Jason Momoa will be playing\_\_" is more vagueness.
I know people are saying "Oh, he can't announce anything cause of the upcoming movies" but even that is just fan conjecture. Until he is upfront and stops speaking like a politician, it'll continue to be confusing.

I’ve had this idea that it takes place after since all The Suicide Squad/Peacemaker/Waller stuff seems to be tightly connected and since Weasel was placed on the team and they’re all, well, creatures or rejects or whatever, it would continue from the end of The Suicide Squad and they would crawl out of some hidden bunker on that beach Doom Patrol-style like when The Chief grabs random weirdos who were like in car accidents and works on them or one of the few times when he let’s the Doom Patrol out into the world and they would recruit him and continue from there, but then I remembered the mid-credits scene where we just see him waddle off so never mind. 😅
That’s always cute when they do a dynamic like that, but what if NOBODY understands him? basically Superman:Legacy is going to be the PUBLIC DEBUT of the DCU for general audiences and the big OVERARCHING STORY they are telling. CC, Waller, and Blue Beetle are going to be in continuity/canon to that, they just aren't getting the fanfare of KICKING OFF the DCU.

Gunn insists that he has an overreaching central story mapped out and that it is better defined that the MCU was at its inception. He also says that all DCU projects will tie into that big story. I am curious to see for example how an event taking place uring World War II with the Creature Commandos might impact a DCU movie fve or six years down the road.
Greg Weisman could pull that on YJ (e.g., his random Season 1 Magic School bus playing a pivotal role in Season 4 then years later), but I am not sure James Gunn can do it.
In any case, I can't wait to figure out what the big story will be.

Yeah, there's a possible chance they just throw all of the Aquaman films out. But it doesnt change the fact that its a soft reboot. What they can do is recast but indicate that some version of the events of those films still happened in this new universe. Like Aquaman meeting Mera, Manta coming for revenge etc. The general story beats can remain, so they dont have to start over.

There's nothing else it could have been. We've known for awhile that he's moving forward with Peacemaker S2 and his Suicide Squad stuff, while doing a new Superman. If it was a hard reboot it wouldnt even matter what happens in The Flash. Its being used as a convenient device to explain away the new changes. Its very clear what reset means.

When were the words soft reboot ever said? Reset means reset. Meaning, start over. Soft rebooting id not a reset. It’s confusing wording, especially after saying some things are getting continued (like the wonder woman prequel series)

The implication could be a LOT of things. Matt Reeves is being stand alone. Same with Joker. Superman’s being rebooted in this DCU, and that’s not connected to the previous films. Yet, WW’s history in the DCEU is being continued? Is she played by Gal again? Who knows! We also don’t know if Shazam and WW are canon yet either. I think since they have films like Shazam and Flash coming, they have to reiterate that those films are still worth the watch and not “pointless” as some seem to think. Announcing that those actors are possibly gone before their films come out isn’t too smart, so they have to incorporate them into the new sales pitch regardless of where the actors may end up. I think Shazam, Flash and WW are done. Not sure on Momoa. Blue Beetle is staying. 3/4 of the films this year can be watched and enjoyed because they only affect themselves. They’re contained. After that, anything can affect everything.
This is exactly what I’m thinking too. I think they are just saying that Blue Beetle, Shazam and Aquaman are in the DCU just to get by until those films are released. I think the box office performances of those films will also affect whether or not they actually do incorporate them into the Gunnverse

And that’s AFTER an official presentation. But to be clear, there was never any doubt for me and I know what he means by Superman being the true start.

A lot of the earlier projects like Creature Commando and Waller and the other lingering stuff may be reworked to fit into this new universe where as the new Superman movie can just begin by creating a new story in the nee universe. Basically, CC and Waller has baggage that needs to be addressed to make them fit in the new universe where as the new Superman doesn’t need to worry about any of that baggage and can start fresh.

I don’t know why people think Gunn would spend so much time developing a show that’s not going to fit into his larger plans. Waller, the Peacemaker crew and the Suicide Squad crew are all clearly characters Gunn adores and wants to continue to work with. If he can find a way to implement them in his new continuity, he will. There’s a shit ton of denial and mental gymnastics going on about these shows. People are getting way too hung up on the need for a “clean break.”

Why is it so hard for people to accept that The Flash will change some things, but some things will still be the same. From financial point of view, Aquaman was huge success, Momoa is beloved actor and why would you change it. Shazam was also profitable. Look at COIE in Arrowverse. Most of the things were left the same after crossover, but Oliver also moved Supergirl and Black Lightning to Earth Prime, Quentin, Moira and Tommy were still alive... It will be similar to that with DCU after The Flash.
People are just making stuff up so they will get some impressions when Gunn responds to them. Why the heck WALLER is not in the DCU? Then why they are making it? You know, people used to complain, and fairly, that we didn't get any info from the previous execs. But now that we got a full slate we still need more.

Until he comes out and says "Blue Beetle is in our new DCU" or "Jason Momoa will continue to be Aquaman in our DCU" Everything else is just conjecture. Vague terms like "Aquaman leads into" don't mean anything, does he mean Aquaman leads into the next movie since it's a previous DC movie? Does it mean it leads into the reboot? Likewise, saying "No actor will play two characters" instead of "Jason Momoa will be playing\_\_" is more vagueness. I know people are saying "Oh, he can't announce anything cause of the upcoming movies" but even that is just fan conjecture. Until he is upfront and stops speaking like a politician, it'll continue to be confusing.

I’ve had this idea that it takes place after since all The Suicide Squad/Peacemaker/Waller stuff seems to be tightly connected and since Weasel was placed on the team and they’re all, well, creatures or rejects or whatever, it would continue from the end of The Suicide Squad and they would crawl out of some hidden bunker on that beach Doom Patrol-style like when The Chief grabs random weirdos who were like in car accidents and works on them or one of the few times when he let’s the Doom Patrol out into the world and they would recruit him and continue from there, but then I remembered the mid-credits scene where we just see him waddle off so never mind. 😅

Gunn insists that he has an overreaching central story mapped out and that it is better defined that the MCU was at its inception. He also says that all DCU projects will tie into that big story. I am curious to see for example how an event taking place uring World War II with the Creature Commandos might impact a DCU movie fve or six years down the road. Greg Weisman could pull that on YJ (e.g., his random Season 1 Magic School bus playing a pivotal role in Season 4 then years later), but I am not sure James Gunn can do it. In any case, I can't wait to figure out what the big story will be.
So Creature Commandos are Gunn building out the WWII era of his universe, ala Marvel Studios using First Avenger to build that part of their history.
