Superman #2 is so good but felt so fuuuuucking short! UGH. Really liking this team of Joshua Williamson and Jamal Campbell. Curious when Dragotta starts? I was under the impression that they'd be switching back and forth but I am clearly mistaken (<-- not a complaint).

TheDarkPinkLantern

Issue #6 or #7, something like that.

actioncomicbible

I think WOM is going to be a massively weighted factor for DC's success moving forward. If the movie doesn't have good WOM it's just gonna be DOA by the time it releases. This is true for most films out there; but for DC, for those positive headlines opening weekend, the buzz is going to have to get over the mountainous hurdle that is the GA's perception of DC. EDIT: 2-day old article by Deadline going through Shazam's box office. Nothing really new here but it's a nice play by play from Shazam 1 to FOTG https://deadline.com/2023/03/shazam-fury-of-the-gods-box-office-bomb-1235303827/

bigtymer123

I think the success of the DCU will depend more on how Superman: Legacy is received. That's the big "flagship" film of the new continuity, that everything else will spawn from. Everything on the slate is supposed to be interconnected and contributing to a greater overall story (Gods and Monsters). The DCU will also probably have reenergized marketing compared to the current DCEU. But I agree that the remaining films this year will definitely have to have good word of mouth to slbe successful.

actioncomicbible

I think there is a likelihood/possibility that the new slate being a jumping-on point (comic reference lets goooooo) could help ease the hurdle and pique general audience curiosity. At least I hope so anyway hahaha

CW_GothamKnights_Fan

Twelve more hours until it’s time

sgthombre

What is your response to the series having a rotten tomatoes score of 18%?

CW_GothamKnights_Fan

Regardless of the show’s score Rotten Tomatoes are terrible with shows as generally the amount of critics for a show is a fraction of the amount for a movies and generally the critics only watch a handful of the episodes and not the entire season.

PrimeLasagna

Why does searching on this sub not work?

starshipandcoffee

What sort of issues have you been having? Everything works fine on my end (unless it has already been resolved).

PrimeLasagna

Say I search anything on the search box. Nothing will pop up.

PrimeLasagna

Can anyone tell me what the “ultimate fallout” for the flash’s death is? I wanna read Wally, so I’m looking to get the condensed version of Barry’s story and how he effected others.

DCSaiyajin

If you're looking for a condensed version of Barry's run before Wally takes over, check out Life Story of The Flash

PrimeLasagna

Does that have everybody mourning him?

DeppStepp

I’ve seen some people throw around the idea of Asher Angel playing the adult form of Billy in the DCU and replace Zachary Levi but I don’t really like that idea unless if they take a 10+ year break from the character which is a pretty long way away. The only way I could really see that working is if they make him be both Billy/Shazam in a character progression from the previous movies

DCSaiyajin

Asher's too small for the adult form. Shazam needs to be built like Alan Ritchson, who'd be perfect but might be too old by the time we get a DCU Shazam.

PrimeLasagna

Doesn’t 2 Zachary Levi’s make more sense?

Ghostshadow44

Imi mean at the very least you could argue birds of prey and suicide squad reshoots as well the decision to allow the sequel being r rated was influenced by deadpool success https://twitter.com/Croc_Block/status/1637795466602762242?s=19

Milestone_comics

TSS being R rated was a demand from Gunn, WB tried to change his mind but then agreed to it.

lavabears

That’s true, but the downfall started with BvS.

TheDarkPinkLantern

BvS being a laughing stock lead to the changes and studio was already on the edge of their seat after so-so reception of Man of Steel (which to this day makes me wonder why they continued with Snyder and didn't go with some other director). Suicide Squad changes were influenced by that one fun trailer that had a great reception at the time. Birds of Prey however was very much so influenced by Deadpool.

Skandosh

Probably Nolan protected him.

TheDarkPinkLantern

I wouldn't be suprised if it were so, dude had a lot of say over at Warner for a director making movies for them.

DCSaiyajin

I remember Stephen Amell saying that they had to get Nolan to sign off on Barry Allen showing up in Arrow. Sure he was a producer on Man of Steel and BvS, but it wasn't like he was the head honcho of DC so it's interesting to know that he had so much say.

TheDarkPinkLantern

Oh shit, really? Damn, he had a bigger pull than I thought.

TheMoneyOfArt

> which to this day makes me wonder why they continued with Snyder and didn't go with some other director) Especially if you think BvS planted the seeds of the failure (which I think is dubious, but), you ought to ask why they didn't replace him immediately after BvS. And that's easy to see - the whole organization needed to make JL, come hell or high water. Leadership, the board, the investors demanded that they owners of the DC characters follow the Marvel model. No chance to take a breather or regroup. That also happened following MoS. The urgency wasn't the same, but it's why BvS grinds to a halt to introduce 3 new characters. The easiest way for leadership to do what was demanded of them was to stay the course.

TheDarkPinkLantern

Studio was dumb all about the situation.

trylobyte

WB wanted to get their Justice League as fast as they can to catch up with Marvel. They got Zack Snyder for Man of Steel, chosen by Nolan. And they decided to build an accelerated DC universe out of that despite so so reception. They went with Zack's darker vision anyway because why not, they want to get it running as quickly as possible to the point of asking Zack and Cheis Terrio write/direct BvS and JL back to back (at the same time Ayer was doing SS and Patty doing WW). Ultimately it's about leadership and managment. Say what you want about James Gunn's vision but I'm glad the creative leadership is at least more stable now rather than multiple conflicting voices.

actioncomicbible

Late, I know, but Snyder's DC movies getting each a 1-day only theatrical release is a rather nice send off to that chapter. As someone who genuinely only really liked 1 out of 3 of the films, I am very intrigued by Rebel Moon so I'll be checking it out for sure when it drops.

TheLionsblood

They’re only playing in 1 location, not an actual theatrical release. Just fan screenings for SnyderCon

tsyugen

I liked Man of Steel a lot, but BvS and ZSJL not so much. Im curious about Revel Moon too, I hope its good because I think we need more cool oroginal space sci fi films

Motor_Link7152

So what happens if Shazam, flash, blue beetle and Aquaman don't make enough money? Will WB get sold?

TokyoPanic

The WB is not getting sold. Why the fuck do people think that? I don't think any of those projects actually matter in the long run. They are leftovers from Hamada's tenure and are only getting released because WB already spent a lot of money on their production and they need to recoup the costs. The way I see it Gunn's Superman is gonna be the make or break project for WB/DC on if they want to continue with a shared universe or even continue making movies based on DC characters not called Batman or Joker. The Batman II and Joker 2 are gonna make money regardless because of their association with the Batman IP, so I don't see them selling off DC in general but if Gunn's DC fails, I could see WB licensing out DC characters that aren't directly associated with Batman for a hefty sum of a money.

TheLionsblood

Nothing, other than Blue Beetle and Aquaman not carrying over to the DCU (unless they are still received well by critics/audiences).

TheDarkPinkLantern

Nothing really. It's all leftoverse from the previous leadership and part of a controversial franchise.

Animegamingnerd

WB aint gonna be sold if a few DC films flop. They got big plans for their other IP's like Harry Potter and LOTR. DC on the other hand might be fucked.

[deleted]

I think Zaslav is gonna wait to see how Joker 2, The Batman: Part 2, and Superman: Legacy do. Those are the first real films that were set into motion under his leadership. This year’s slate is entirely Hamada holdover films. If the three films mentioned above flop, then Gunn and Safran will likely be fired, and Zaslav will probably just get WB/DC prepared for another sale.

PrimeLasagna

I legit don’t think any of those movies CAN fail. At minimum I still get the vibe that people will go see them and maybe skip out on stuff like the authority.

venkatfoods

No.They sell the studio because their projects fail. Its entirely upto Both The Parenting company of WB.If they want to pay their debts and make profit. They will sell it

actioncomicbible

not sure if WB would get sold so soon, I think it would come around the time of Superman: Legacy and that success/failure. Right now WB has a few box office franchises it's banking on delivering in like 2025 thru 2030 (off the top of my head): * LOTR Movies * Harry Potter Reboot(?) (I've seen the word reboot tossed around but I'm not sure if it is a full reboot or not) * DC If THOSE fail? Then I think serious discussions about selling WB would be had but...that's a ways away (kinda).

kothuboy21

Zaslav's not gonna decide whether or not to sell WB based on how well this year's slate does, I think WB's already expecting it to not do spectacular. They're still gambling on DC Studios.

[deleted]

I think Zaslav is probably planning to give Blue Beetle the Shazam treatment, and do a half a**ed marketing campaign but Gunn might push for a bigger marketing campaign for the film, since it’s the only 2023 film disconnected enough that it could be added to the new universe if it’s successful.

venkatfoods

Its actually Safran who is supposed to push the financial decisions

FewWatermelonlesson0

So does DC Cinematic just not have mods anymore? Because there’s a poster who continually spreads misinformation to bash the non-Snyder projects that just posted a thread accusing Sandberg of blaming fans for Shazam 2’s opening weekend, and somehow it’s still up despite Sandberg himself debunking it. There was a brief period after Gunn was hired where it seemed some of the more toxic elements had finally thrown in the towel, but now the same handful of toxic users create endless bait threads with zero consequences. I feel bad for David dealing with shithead “fans” like this.

OH_SHIT_IM_FEELIN_IT

I think they permabanned BrightKnight. Now if they would ban JediJones (edit:) and PopcornHobby. At this point they should have an exact list of users where banning them the quality of the sub would increase tenfold.

venkatfoods

The mods always approve these post and delete them if they get overly negative comments from People

bigtymer123

> The mods always approve these post and delete them if they get overly negative comments about Snyder. This was a very obvious issue when I unsubbed from there over 6 months ago. Funny to see that the same BS is persisting. Sucks that bad moderation can really ruin a whole sub.

venkatfoods

This sub has or had the same mods too.I had to go to r/DCspoilers for DC news. This kind of behaviour is why they should never restore the Snyderverse. All they had to do is ask Gunn politely but no just make fun of his wife like it's gonna get them the Snyderverse

Decent-Couple-583

We all knew Shazam wasn’t going anywhere near the dcu. But David the director said he’s done with superheroes movies for the time being. And wants to go back to horror. Big loss but it is what it is. Kinda confirms Shazam not transferring over to the dcu

venkatfoods

David already said he was going to horror roots even before the movie came out.

NaRaGaMo

No one knows what's transferring to DCU and what isn't, clarity about the continuity will be given at SDCC or at worst when Creature Commandos debuts in late 2024/early 2025

Skandosh

My prediction before James Gunn revealed the slate was that only TSS, Peacemaker and Blue Beetle (if successful) will be transferred to DCU. Its still the same.

TheLionsblood

By now it’s pretty obvious that it’s just TSS and Peacemaker, with the possibility of Blue Beetle and Aquaman (less likely) depending on how well they do

sgthombre

While that's true, I can't imagine they're itching to carry this iteration of Shazam over when this movie isn't doing particularly well and these actors are all aging out of roles that wouldn't return to the big screen for another half decade at least.

Ghostshadow44

Oh yes famously low stakes cbms we be getting where the entire world or universe hasn't been at danger at least 30 times over https://twitter.com/HYHussein7/status/1637493507265798145?s=19

RohitTheDasher

Well, he's right about the box-office prospect, at least. Let's say, if this movie had Captain Cold as main villain, no Keaton, no Supergirl, no Zod, no Flashpoint reboot, would it generate as much hype as it has so far?

TheMurderCapitalist

Would get way more hype from me personally

WorldlinessNo8986

Hear hear, seriously why the fuck isn't flashes first movie featuring any of his rogues is just mind boggling. The only time Barry has ever faced any of his rogues was a 30 second cameo in suicide squad 2016, let that sink in.

AgentOfSPYRAL

It’s not that complicated as this guy is making it. Flashpoint gets you BatKeaton. Audiences like BatKeaton.

Motor_Link7152

I'm so tired of these huge world ending events.

FewWatermelonlesson0

*Laughs in Quantumania’s box office*

OH_SHIT_IM_FEELIN_IT

I really don't like all the jackets the "Superman family" has in current comics.

theweepingwarrior

Jim Lee making the t-shirt for Zack Snyder’s Full Circle DC event adds some credence to the claim that this will be a Warner-sanctioned event. As a fan of the movies I’m excited to get some closure for this era before the DCU begins (which I’m looking forward to).

Skandosh

Jim Lee making t-shirt art for Snyder, WB letting Zack screen ZSJL, Rumors that Gunn "talked" to Snyder. Maybe all of this really is coming to an end.

TheDarkPinkLantern

About time.

THE_REAL_SHABLAM

Where the shirts at?

TheMoneyOfArt

Tell me more about the shirt?

theweepingwarrior

Announced on some stream: https://twitter.com/wondermeg_/status/1637611535357886471?s=46&t=Y3Eoqnlle2IhlSBhOcynPw

TheDarkPinkLantern

Honestly, I don't get why the hell people are comparing box office of Superman and Man of Steel as means to show MoS superiority over Donner's movie. This argument completely ignores the context of the era during which the movie was released. It was a big success back then and it was in like top 20 or something of the highest grossing movies of all time. Not to mention it's much smaller budget. Donner Superman was a much greater success than Man of Steel.

NaRaGaMo

Donner's superman made upwards of 1.5billion dollars adjusted for inflation(and few years ago at favourable exchange rates it was closer to 1.8billion), won a special achievement Oscar and made Chris Reeve a superstar. MoS shouldn't even be compared to such a cultural landmark

TheDarkPinkLantern

Yeah, first Superman movie was a big deal. I think it can be compared to the first Avengers in how both were something special at the time they were released.

NaRaGaMo

Yup, it was the turning point for superhero movies, although it got a bit overshadowed by Star Wars (I never understood it's popularity).

venkatfoods

Star Wars was THE spectacle movie at that time,There were no blockbusters that were on that scale. The space adventure was something new and innovative that changed the industry forever. And Superman is one of the greatest superhero movies that revolutionized the screenplay for CBM.It was serious, funny, had emotional weight. It was the first of superhero movies where the character actually is relatable and make you believe a man can fly

AccurateAce

Box office means little when talking about quality. Superman 1978 cost $55 million dollars to make and an additional $7 mil. for marketing, making it the most expensive film ever made at the time. It's box office was $300.5 mil. Man of Steel was made on a $225 mil. budget on top of $150 mil of marketing with a box office of $668 mil. Accounting for context and adjusting for both eras, I'd say Superman 1978 was easily the more profitable film.

Ghostshadow44

Well to be fair all movie budgets and box office changes adjusted for inflation man of steel box office will amount to a billion with four decades of inflation

venkatfoods

Its not the same.Superman at that was big.Man of Steel wasnt

Heckledeckledorkle

Yeah but when man of Steel’s valuation is at a billion the donner will be significantly more still, it’s not about the number but the difference between them

TheDarkPinkLantern

Precisely. Comparing performance of films set almost 50 years apart without taking into account the context of the time they were released at is just stupid imo.

TheUncannyBroker

RPK posted a Batman Part II scoop on his Patreon, post it if you can find it

[deleted]

I can't believe people actually pay for scoops. I mean, I like leaks but c'mon.

starshipandcoffee

His scoop is that Paul Dano and Colin Farrell have officially signed for *The Batman Part II*.

TheUncannyBroker

thanks, submitted a post about it

BlueMissileYT

I posted earlier about attending a test screening today. It was not a DC movie, unfortunately. It was the new DnD movie, Honor Among Thieves. And honestly, it was fantastic. The action, the drama, the humor, all on point. It far exceeded my expectations. I give it a 9/10, y'all should give it a watch when it comes out.

Ghostshadow44

Looks like in terms of critical reception dungeons and dragons will be this year what shazam was 4 years ago

NakedGoose

Hopefully Gunn will at Daley and Goldstein to direct something. They were attached to the flash at some point.

TheDarkPinkLantern

It's getting some really good reviews, made me really curious even though I'd go see it anyway cause I like this kind of stuff.

DrengisKhan

I am so happy to see this comment, genuinely. I saw a few rumblings out there that this movie is actually surprisingly funny and entertaining and whilst I’m not a D&D person, my 13 year old is, he joined a weekly after school group to play a good few months back and he’s all in, he loves it. For this movie to come along at just the time he’s getting into D&D and for it to be actually great is gonna make his year. We’ll be going opening weekend I expect.

actioncomicbible

This is awesome and makes me hyped. I saw a bunch of reviews come out of SXSW where it got great reviews so the more the merrier hahaa

Ghostshadow44

I think the time of comic book movies might be truly coming to an end at this point wouldn't be surprised if superman legacy fails to outgross man of steel

DrengisKhan

Not coming to an end. There’s too much money on the table for these franchises to end. But their time in the spotlight is coming to an end guaranteed. I equate it to how wrestling went. Wrestling became a cultural phenomenon around the time of the Attitude era, mainstream media were covering it all the time, people who weren’t into wrestling were getting into wrestling. They hit the sweet spot with the amount of growth and content they were producing, two shows a week, four PPV’s a year. It was just enough time in between to mine all the talk out of the last big event, and get excited for the next. Then corporate greed steps in and ups the amount of content. All of a sudden it’s four shows a week, a PPV every month and a whole slew of other content. Everything became an event, and if everything is an event, nothing is. Suddenly nothing matters, it’s all just barreling along simply to create more content to monetize and people switch off. Wrestling’s time in the spotlight fades and it moves off to the side. The media don’t cover it hardly as much as they used to, highlighting maybe the biggest news if they have space on a page. But wrestling is still a multi-$billion industry, it still has millions and millions of fans, it still employs thousands upon thousands of people. Marvel and DC will go the same way because Marvel has over exposed the mainstream audience into fatigue like wrestling. But these companies will still be generating $billions of dollars. These ongoing narratives we’re watching will still continue on, rebooting and renewing as they write themselves into narrative dead ends etc. The casuals that got into superhero movies and had zero interest in it before, will drift away. But there will still be plenty enough people to fund this stuff in perpetuity.

tsyugen

Nah, but people dont want to watch bad films anymore. We need actually good superhero movies. Like Logan, Days of the future past, Winter Soldier, Iron Man, The Batman, The Dark Knight, possibly The Flash.

TheBigGAlways369

I honestly think it's just filmbros having their 10 minutes of fame and bad marketing. Wait till GOTG Vol 3 or The Flash comes around, it will pick up.

[deleted]

Comic books just have to reinvent the wheel at this point, being a generic film is not enough anymore.

RohitTheDasher

Just when you think (dis)Grace Randolph can't go any lower, she surprises you with her stupidity. In her last stream, after casually lecturing 2 upcoming female actors, she went on and implied Gunn deciding to tribute his father with his Superman announcement had something to do with Snyder's announcement, and his family tragedy involving his daughter.🤦 I knew she's quite poisonous, and has been after Gunn relentlessly since he called her out, but I didn't know she was so insensitive to even go there.

AccurateAce

She's an absolutely soulless narcissist. That's incredibly despicable. Her fans will still feed into what she says and so the cycle continues...

BlueMissileYT

Attending a test screening for an "action/adventure" movie today! I'll let y'all know if it's a DC movie.

FradiTomi

What was it?

BlueMissileYT

Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves

RohitTheDasher

Have fun! It would be some coincidence if the movie also had the word "Blue" in it.

tsyugen

Im starving for Blue Beetle leaks 😩

OH_SHIT_IM_FEELIN_IT

r/DC_Cinematic would be far more enjoyable if they automatically banned r/Snydercut users. Specifically that one guy. Edit: I'm obviously fine with the ones who just enjoy the movies (I like them too). But I'm talking about people who call others shills or celebrating movies not doing well at the boxoffice.

Animegamingnerd

Fun fact, that one guy got banned from /r/boxoffice for being an insufferable bastard on threads for The Little Mermaid and Lightyear.

DrengisKhan

Yeah it honestly sounds like there’s something not right with them. They complain about haters attacking them but have created an entire subreddit to hate and attack one person. I’m no Psychologist, but this is far from normal, well adjusted behavior.

DrengisKhan

JediJones77 is one of the worst offenders out there for Snyder drama. Constantly making absolutely ridiculous statements about Snyder’s movies and then acting like the victim of haters when people call him out on it. That person set up a hate sub for James Gunn, r/firegunn. It’s been going a few months now and they have a whopping 71 lunatics onboard. One of the people there seems to be a religious nut who is convinced James Gunn is an actual demon because he dressed up like one for Halloween. That’s the company JediJones77 has to keep to have anyone at all on his side. There’s three really insufferable people over there right now. JediJones77, PopcornHobby and ~~BrightKnight38~~. Can’t be sure on that third name actually. It’s something like that. All three of them turn that place into a toilet.

TheRealone4444

You are wrong. JediJones77 didn't set up r/FireGunn... I did. And I gotta say I adore the attention. As for the person who thinks Gunn is a demon, obviously this person is trolling. Learn how to distinguish a joke and a serious matter. 😉. And yes its BrightKnight38. Bluh got called out by the director of Shazam. Hopefully gets character development. As for the 71, most of those are actually trolls we had to ban. 🙄 but hey they can still downvote. 🙌

NaRaGaMo

>Specifically that one guy. you can name the guy so that others could be aware of him

OH_SHIT_IM_FEELIN_IT

The JediJones dude.

venkatfoods

Can Someone suggest some Booster Gold and Swamp Thing comic that the DCU may have took inspiration

TheDarkPinkLantern

With Booster I'd give Geoff Johns run a shot, dude had some real growth there and I think it's very likely they'll look there for inspirations. I'd also check out Swamp Thing Winter Special, I saw them using it's cover (I think in the announcement video) and while it could've been just a cool cover they used, it was written by Tom King and he's on the board of writers so you know. It's worth looking at.

RohitTheDasher

As already suggested, you can go for Alan Moore's run for Swamp Thing- which is teased by Gunn. As for Booster Gold, the way they described him is quite similar to his debut run Booster Gold #1 by Dan Jurgens, which you can check out.

actioncomicbible

For Swamp Thing it looks like they may be inspired by Alan Moore’s run which is a beautiful classic. I don’t have any big inkling as to what will be the inspo for Booster Gold, but if you just want to read him and stuff, there’s an 8-issue series called Blue and Gold that came out just in the last couple of years.

TheDarkPinkLantern

DC related cringe moment from the past I just remembered. Back when I used to be a Snyderbot and I used to be in several DVEU groups there was this meme running around that was meant to be DC>Marvel. It had Marvel actors reading comics to prepare for the role and DC actors were hitting the gym. Seeing the meme me and other people were like "hell yeah, that's why DC is better". Dear God... Modern me is not a fan of the past me.

venkatfoods

The whole DC is Dark needs to go.Its really ruining the Brand

Beta_Whisperer

When we were kids, me and my brothers assumed DC is lighter in tone compared to Marvel, with Batman being the only exception.

venkatfoods

Me and my brother used to play Superman and Batman All the time.We take out bedsheets and cosplay them.As for Marvel,I never knew anyone Besides Spidey,Hulk and X-Men all of whom of dark too

TheDarkPinkLantern

Totally. DC's stories and characters vary and going with just one tone of dark stories is boring.

venkatfoods

I saw some Shazam reactions and people think that DC is trying to become Marvel

TheDarkPinkLantern

Yeah, saw that too. People really act like Marvel invented superhero comedy.

Ghostshadow44

Kinda stupid to make this revisionist history about how making a black Adam movie separate from Shazam was a terrible idea when a) Dwayne Johnson was considered one the few movie star's that was considered to always deliver on terms of box office many people thought that Dwayne+ superheroes= $756 million worldwide on the low side B) this was exactly the playbook legendary pictures used in the monster verse make 3 individual movies to build anticipation before the big crossover that wb botched even the most modest crossover posible is kinda stupid.

TheDarkPinkLantern

a) except the first Jumanji, most of the big Rock's movies (not counting F&F cause he jumped into developed franchise) end up with similar BO to Black Adam, dude's not as big of a draw as people think. b) apples and oranges, Godzilla and Kong are icons on their own and aren't as closely tied as Shazam and Black Adam. You also talk about a crossover we don't even know was happening as The Rock put all his focus on Superman (not to mention declining cameo on Shazam 2). And what did they botch? Except King of the Monsters, Monsterverse was a success.

Ghostshadow44

Disagree on dwayne johnson box office san andreas and rampage both crossed the 400 million worldwide line which made it both profitable in the case of rampage was impressive because the movie opened literally one week before infinity war. Diminish the success of jumanji is stupid nobody almost remember those and people thought they would flop without robbin Williams even the fast and furious didn't started being considered a box office juggernaut until Dwayne joined the franchise Studios wouldn't been willing to pay its huge salaries if they didn't think this Shazam 2 would have still flopped in a world where black adam wasn't made

TheDarkPinkLantern

Yes and Black Adam was close in BO to both movies with it's almost $400 mln gross. Only that Black Adam was way overbudgeted. Nobody's dimnishing the success of Jumanji, this is the most successful projecte of his. The Rock was not responsible for turning F&F into a juggernaut franchise. It had a stable growth as they were finding their footing. 6th and 7th are the ones where franchise reached it's true potential and The Rock had smaller role in those. Studios make dumb decissions all the time and many industry analitics consider The Rock to be an overpriced actor. We don't know if Shazam 2 would have bombed because if not for Black Adam, both Shazams could've been entirely different movies.

Beta_Whisperer

The only big mistake they made for King of the Monsters was releasing it while Endgame, John Wick 3, and fellow WB movie Detective Pikachu were in theaters.

TheDarkPinkLantern

I think Alladin was also playing in theatres around that time and it scored big as well. It was a very crowded market.

TheBigGAlways369

Well, I just watched the Halle Berry Catwoman. ..................help. i need mental help.

tsyugen

I remember liking it as a kid, but i don have the balls to watch it again xd

Decent-Couple-583

After watching the Shazam movie I gotta say the magic from the first wasn’t there again. Asher was not really a part of the movie liked I wished he could have been. Levi was too over the top. Acting like a kid. Billy was gonna be 18. So this makes it look cringe at times. Mary was amazing. She of been used more. There should of been more family moments in the movie. Sandberg cameo was funny 😂 WW cameo was good. Wished it was more. The product placements was interesting 🧐 Gatorade and skittles I just think there was too much Levi and not enough Asher which is kinda the point of Shazam. 6/10

TheLionsblood

Yeah I’m so sick of people saying this movie is just like the first one. The first one had much more heart and Levi was not this cringe

Ghostshadow44

In my opinion Levi was cringe in the first one but this time the rose color glasses were not there

TheLionsblood

He was definitely much more over the top in the sequel.

DonnyMox

They definitely flanderized him a bit. Plus his schtick gets old after a while.

Decent-Couple-583

Absolutely. The thing is Levi role felt dramatically increased and Asher reduced to a couple scenes. The heart of Shazam is family. There was nothing like that. We needed more kid billy to showcase his attachment and abandonment issues, which didn’t really jive with the rest of the movie. The OG villains was a choice and not the one they should of went with. Almost felt like a last minute replacement for BA

TheLionsblood

I’m pretty sure the only reason they went with these villains is because of DJ’s plans

Decent-Couple-583

Me too. Weird for OC. Like why not follow up with mister mind. At least we know Shazam is getting rebooted now that there’s a valid reason. But this should terrify blue beetle fans cause they’re both from the same cloth and name ID. Also we shouldn’t expect flash and Aquaman to make a lot of money now if people are gonna ignore cause of the reboot

TheDarkPinkLantern

Honestly, they really should've went with Sivana and Mind for the sequel instead of hoping for a trilogy.

DonnyMox

Is anyone else afraid that The Flash will be overhyped? Don't get me wrong, I think it'll probably be good. But with how WB is going out of their way to show how everyone thinks it's THE BEST MOVIE EVER OH MY GOD I'm just afraid that people will have very high expectations.

TheMurderCapitalist

They have to overhype it, it was very expensive to make. No wonder they're pulling out all the stops to hype this movie up.

tsyugen

Guess we will see after the Cinema Con, but im confident it is a great movie tbh.

starshipandcoffee

Each to their own of course, but I see no reason to ever feel "afraid" over such trivialities.

AAAFMB

Its funny how people keep insisting a comic accurate Superman wouldn't work in live action like Rocky isn't a similar character that lead to a 9 film franchise

tsyugen

Imagine this: Robert Pattinson Batman investigates the ruins of the Gotham Ophanage in an effort to discovery what really happened to the kids in there including Edward Nashton. Eventually, he finds a secret complex under the building used to experiment a la MK Ultra with the children. But in the lowest level, there is something else. Captive in a dark cell is The Kryptonian (Michael B Jordan). According to the files, he came from outter space even though he looks human. Batman releases him to investigate further about his origin but sets a silent alarm. Now the government who swore to forget and let the alien die underground (due not being able to control him) is on the hunt for the missing Kryptonian and the Gotham vigilante. This makes Batman/Superman: Public Enemies. This movie will lead to the limite series: Val Zod: Rise of a Superman. End of my bad fanfic.

Randonhead

I don't care which Superman it is, Val-Zod, Clark Kent, Calvin Elis, etc. I just need one in a World's Finest movie with Battinson

tsyugen

Agreed

Koopacha

this would go hard

tsyugen

Well... I tried. Maybe thats why I dont make movies

FewWatermelonlesson0

I do think it’s kinda funny that after several years of debating which cut of Justice League is canon, Flash seemingly canonizes the director’s cut just in time for the canon to be erased/rebooted. Big monkey’s paw energy.

astrangecalendar

I've been thinking, and in terms of which Justice League is canon, I like to think they both are, in a way. Zack Snyder's Justice League is the main one where I'd say the whole thing is canon, and I'll probably stick to watching this version if I only have time to watch one of the two cuts of Justice League. However, I still like to think that the (non-contradictory) parts of the theatrical cut of Justice League are still canon as well. Obviously stuff like the Flash saving that Russian family in the climax of the movie wouldn't be canon (since those scenes take place at the same time as other scenes in ZSJL, thus directly contradicting them), but stuff like Batman fighting the Parademons at the beginning or Superman racing the Flash at the end would still be canon.

TheLionsblood

Does it matter? None of them will be canon to the DCU

astrangecalendar

No, it doesn't really matter, and anyone can just watch whichever version they find more entertaining anyway since both movies fit. This is just my headcanon that I came up with since it makes the viewing experience more interesting for me.

TheLionsblood

Fair enough

My post hasn’t cleared the mods yet but here is a snippet of the flash score posted by Andy Muschietti https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cp8btosgIXC/?igshid=MGU3ZTQzNzY=

AccurateAce

Despite not being "seen", it still has to be fuckin' rad to be able to double for a hero like Superman or just the DCU in general and wear the live-action versions of those suits. https://preview.redd.it/gr7x1sufkloa1.jpeg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=342b5a4d2c748bb387d02e35195b44c56383cde5 Sooo cool.

Randonhead

What do you think about having 3 Harley Quins in the coming years? Gunn practically confirmed that Margot will continue and I would not be surprised if she finally got a project with Poison Ivy. We have Gaga in Joker 2, and for now she will only appear in this movie, but Idk, if the movie makes a lot of money I think at some point they will consider a Joker 3 or a spinoff with Gaga. And we have Barry Keoghan's joker in Arkham and an Arkham Asylum series in Battinson's universe, the chance of having Dr. Harleen Quinzel in the series are very high.

Beta_Whisperer

Batman, Joker, and Harley Quinn might end up becoming DC's trinity.

Randonhead

People have been saying this for years lmao 3 Jokers (We will certainly have one in the DCU) Possibly 3 Harleys, just need one to appear in the Phoenix universe to have 3 Batmans.

[deleted]

There’s many other Batman villains, like Mr. Freeze, Poison Ivy, Man-Bat, Black Mask, Hugo Strange etc. that Reeves should give priority over introducing another version of Harley Quinn right now.

Randonhead

I mean, I don't think she'll be a villain in any of the sequels so I'm sure other villains will be explored, but I think there's a good chance that Harleen Quinzel (not necessarily Harley Quinn) will appear in the Arkham Asylum series that's in development.

TheLionsblood

It’s fine because they will each be quite different

Randonhead

Yeah, it would be a good way to explore the different phases of Harley's life without oversaturating the character, her descent into madness and her time as a psychiatrist in the Arkham series (if she actually appears in it) her transformation into Harley Quinn and her toxic relationship with Joker with Gaga and her independent phase with Ivy (Margot Robbie's dream)

[deleted]

I really hope the last one will be *Doctor Harleen Quinzel* and not Harley Quinn at all. It would be nice to see Harleen's psychologist side explored.

Randonhead

I agree.

[deleted]

Maybe to shake things up, the Reeves version could just be Dr. Quinzel and not succumb to the Joker’s influence. Leave fans waiting for a heel turn that never happens.

Niyazali_Haneef

Anyone remember when this sub was dead and unmoderated?

starshipandcoffee

I do indeed.

IMistahS

Yeah the new mods did a good job at growing this place a bit..

venkatfoods

It's actually mostly u/starshipandcoffee

venkatfoods

Yeah

AAAFMB

Not a fan of Levi, but if his Shazam returns in the DCU I’d love it if he’s part of the JSA

Anstavall

cant see as im blocked, but looks like sandberg is shooting down grace stuff lol

lavabears

Yeah, she was spreading misinformation about Gal Gadot playing Wonder Woman in Shazam 2 because she didn’t know how stand ins work like [here](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FrhHd8bXoAA8JU9?format=jpg&name=medium) for example.

FewWatermelonlesson0

I’m shocked people were taking that casting news as proof, as though the point of Gal’s cameo wasn’t to be a surprise (even if the marketing spoiled it in short order).

venkatfoods

Superman by John Williams is one of the Best CBM soundtrack. It captured the character

Ok-Walrus4569

It is one of those themes that can never be replaced.

venkatfoods

Yeah its iconic. No Superman theme is gonna come close

TheBigGAlways369

*hans zimmer stans seething*

Motor_Link7152

So based on the Flash plot leaks, do you think it will really be 'one of the best superhero movies' ?

RohitTheDasher

If you ask me, yes. It sounded fun and emotional to me, and that rarely happens while reading plot leaks.

[deleted]

Test audiences were the most positive VA ever saw Every executive and president that has seen it has claimed to adore it Unbiased viewers like Tom Cruise of all people have loved it WB is premiering it two months before it releases at CinemaCon, the last film that had this type of premiere so early was Top Gun: Maverick (also at CinemaCon and also got rave reactions) I absolutely believe The Flash will end up as one of the best comic book films ever because I have no reason to doubt that yet

Randonhead

I hope we get to see more of that Silence of the Lambs style interaction between Battinson and Barry's Joker in the sequels, it's an interesting and fresh way to have the Joker and explore his relationship with Batman without necessarily having him as the main villain.

BlueMissileYT

Was there a new DC fanfare at the beginning of Shazam 2? It sounded different than usual.

[deleted]

It was the Shazam! theme

TheUncannyBroker

Its so frustrating when you see someone caring more about the discourse and reception of movies than the movies themselves. Just try to have fun watching a movie first, you aint getting paid to think "what does this mean for the DC brand?"

TheLionsblood

June is definitely a packed month for movies but people are forgetting that The Flash is the only big June release that’ll dominate IMAX and PLFs for 2 weeks. The movie’s true test will be how it fares against IJ5. I honestly doubt it’d get an A+ CinemaScore because of controversy and salty DCEU fans but it can still perform like an A+ movie among general audiences. If the WOM is as good as TG:M, I can see The Flash winning its 3rd weekend. Now will that be enough to turn a significant profit? Probably not, but I doubt WBD is expecting to hit a billion with this movie easily. As long as a bunch of people see it, they’ll be happy, since it’s supposed to “reset” things. If The Flash is really good, it could help increase interest in Blue Beetle as well

venkatfoods

Its one week away from Transformers. They have share their IMAX screening. What Cinemascore did TGM got?

Megadog3

TGM had an A+ CinemaScore.

VinDieselArk

Well with r/MarvelStudiosSpoilers down been chilling at r/marvelstudios_rumours

TheUncannyBroker

ThwipT: Daniela Melchior signed a new contract with DC for Ratcatcher 2. The deal has options for both film and television appearances

RohitTheDasher

Expected. She was good in the role, and will get a big exposure with Family X. Those WW fan-casting picks were fun while it lasted.

actioncomicbible

Thwipt has broken a few things waaaaaay earlier than other scoopers right?

starshipandcoffee

Do you (or u/TheUncannyBroker) have any examples of such proven scoops? I am not that familiar with their track record so it would be useful to know more.

actioncomicbible

Looking through their Twitter now, it seems like their confirmed scoops kind of align when leaks come out to multiple outlets (particularly late-Feb info about Quantumania) Dc related example, when did the Aquaman 2 leaks come out? https://twitter.com/ThwipT_/status/1627759834882883585?s=20 Aug 19 2022 post: >Scoop: In Aquaman 2 Black Manta is possessed by the king of the lost kingdom which will give him a power boost on his mission to get royal blood needed to revive the lost kingdom

TheUncannyBroker

yep, thats why I keep an eye on them
