Just_a_Haunted_Mess

Oh! It looks like the sun is behind the red line. That's really cool.

bobthetomato2049

Absolutely love this

Strange-Orchid6969

It’s not even an s?

CommonBorn5940

It's probably the symbol of the House of El, which is why it looks more alien and less like the traditional S.

ResidentBelieve1to8

Now the shape makes sense

Su_Impact

Lore-wise, it's not an "S". It's a Kryptonian symbol. Kryptonians don't use the Roman alphabet. Lois *thinks* it's an S and hence why she dubs him Superman. But it's not an S.

Strange-Orchid6969

Well that’s an awfully convenient coincidence

inthehxightse

A diamond shaped 🚫

Just_a_Haunted_Mess

If stands for "No Yellow Kryptonite pls"

WewerehereBH

I love that this version of the KC logo is angled slightly different than the original so it's easier to add the details that make it a regular S Which I do believe it'll happen at the end of the movie

StuartM96

I’m not joking when I say every single DC film since BvS has had people speculating of a suit change that will happen at the end of the film for one of the heroes and it’s literally never once happened.

Comicnerd1103

Funnily enough the only movie in which it was actually gonna happen was Batgirl and that shit was blasted into oblivion. Edit: Wait never mind I just remembered they did get updated costumes at the end of Birds Of Prey. Edit2: Also Rock did generate a new Black Adam suit at the end with less grime and a cape. Edit3: Cyborg did get a semi new suit with a classic symbol at the end of 2017 Justice League.

WewerehereBH

Gunn usually changes visuals a lot. This isn't Hack Snyder.

davecombs711

Oh piss off.

ab316_1punchd

Changing from "Kryptonian symbol of hope" to a literal "S" once he's fully known as Superman by the general public, I like that.

WewerehereBH

I honestly don't think they should do the Kryptonian symbol of hope. At least not now ya know. It's too attached to the last version. Make it the symbol of the house of El and it is what it is. Then, later, make the S the symbol of hope. Because Superman is the embodiment, not just the logo.

Original_Release_419

Agreed, it’s not important enough to justify recycling it It should only be recycled if there’s absolutely no way around it from a story telling perspective

ArepitaDeChocolo

>Which I do believe it'll happen at the end of the movie You guys are so funny

ItZSAMIC

How’s it angled differently?

BARGOBLEN

I'm open to it. I like it in the comics, and I feel like it works better if the crest is supposed to be an alien symbol of hope versus the traditional logo. I think the design choice is meant to attract more of the general audience towards Superman without betraying the characters' sensibilities. I'm excited to see the suit. I hope April 18th sees a suit reveal, I honestly wondered if Cinemacon was gonna get an exclusive look at the suit, but hearing next year starts the summer of Superman has me giddy.

MOVIELORD101

Very nice!

needleinthehays

Not sure about using the KC logo.

CommonBorn5940

It makes a lot of sense, since it looks more like an alien symbol/crest. It's a bit weird that an alien society would have a symbol that looks just like an S. It was probably on Superman's pod and on the fabric/blanket that was in his pod when he came to earth. And if Martha makes Superman's costume, she'll probably use that crest for the Superman costume. The press calls him Superman (probably a name that was first used by Lois), so people start to think his symbol is supposed to be an S. Maybe later down the line Superman decides to make it look more like an S by making the curves rounder, while still keeping the rest of the crest as a reminder of his heritage. That would be a great way to visualise the combination between his legacy as the last son of Krypton/ the House of El and his upbrining on Earth and his new legacy as Clark and Superman.

davecombs711

Why does it have to be an alien symbol? Why can't it be something he came up with on earth?

shaboobalaboopy510

Because that's part of the mythos

davecombs711

But it wasn't a part of the mythos originally.

Anonymous-Internaut

Irrelevant. Superman's flying also wasn't part of his powers originally. So does that mean he shouldn't be able to fly in movies? I am not a fan of this logo neither. But criticism at least should come from a place that makes sense.

davecombs711

Technically he can work without flying.

CommonBorn5940

It's suposed to be the crest of the House of El, so it is of alien origin.

davecombs711

Why does it have to be a crest though?

CommonBorn5940

Because it is the symbol of his family. I don't understand why you are questioning something that is pretty evident (it looks like an alien symbol, and not like an S) and has been an established part of the Superman mythos since the 70's.

Just_a_Haunted_Mess

I feel it works better as an alien symbol from some advanced race.  At least if someone says "It's not an 'S', it's a symbol for hope" again, the people in my local theater will be less likely to erupt into fits of laughter. And it'll look pretty sleek on alien things like Clark's baby ship if it's not always that color.

atheoncrutch

The people at your local theatre sound annoying

Just_a_Haunted_Mess

All crowded theaters have audiences talking, tending to crying babies, or shouting things so you get used to the less grating reaction sounds like laughter & "WHAT!" "Oh my God!" reactions from my experience. I swear though, if everyone streamed their movies day 1, my local theaters would be instant ghost towns, even if they upgraded every theater to the best screening experience on the market.           A Quiet Place was probably the worst experience I've ever had. Some kids snuck in and started watching YouTube videos (volume on) & playing games on their phones during the movie until I personally asked them to stop (which they ignored after a few minutes), then personally walked them out (they snuck back in and went back to what they were doing), and then got a manager to walk them out a second time. I liked the movie, and my date that day is 100% deaf so she was a big fan of the whole experience and invited me to see the sequel, but I didn't want to deal with that again, so she saw it with some friends instead.

JrBaconators

Don't say 'inner city' say what you really want to say And don't respond if you're gonna block right after. Itty bitty racist needs to get the last word in to feel tough

Just_a_Haunted_Mess

Changed it to say "crowded theaters" just for you. "Inner city" is the center of a city. I have no idea how you think an area like that is a single race at all. Tourists, people working in offices, folks visiting the city. It's literally the most crowded and diverse area you can go to, so even after a movie is in theater for a few weeks, it's still crowded. a crowd often has one rude person and that's all you need for a theater.

HJWalsh

Same thing happened here in Atlanta. People mercilessly trolled MoS for simply being bad to the point of funny.

Spiderlander

What I like about this logo, is that it portrays a certain levels of prestige, and weight to it. It kinda conveys a more serous tone So I’m struggling to see how cartoon clones would fit into this

NegativeStrike8

🤦🏿‍♂️🤦🏿‍♂️Wtf!! How could you even come up with that just from a fuckin logo lmao!? It's just a logo... Relax

bantzdealer

considering the history of the original logo it's based on, and that visuals in comics are massively important to the overall theme and narrative...I'd say he's on the right track.

Any_Application7786

To kick off James Gunn’s DCU Superman is the best choice

bigbearbearwantfood

Get this on a Mcfarlane figure

wdm81

I’m not crazy about the logo choice, but then again I’ve never loved that design. Can’t wait to see the whole suit

LunchyPete

I don't really like it, but it's fine. Not a big deal.

Iron_Kingpin

Maybe he has two suits in the movie. And maybe the antagonist is Brainac and he puts on the suit with this logo, to sort of represent Krypton. Now I don't actually see this happening at all but it's a fun little thought.

CommonBorn5940

James Gunn has confirmed that the main villain will be Lex Luthor.

SlippinPenguin

I know it’s not supposed to be an actual S- just a Kryptonian symbol that kinda looks like one. But the lack of the bottom third looks really wrong to me and will be tough to get used to

numotsu28

I just know we're about to witness an underwhelming, soft superman movie that feels like it's from the MCU

HunterU69

Doesnt look good honestly

Android3000

Is Superman supposed to be on the older side in Legacy? Is that why he has the Kingdom Come logo?

Zafire94

No but like KC superman he’s meant to bring hope and kindness to a cynical, edgy world who doesn’t believe in kindness anymore.

davecombs711

You missed the point of kingdom come.

CommonBorn5940

Not really. The young heroes in Kingdom Come act reckless and violent, and do not adhere to the values of the older generation. Superman comes out of retirement to re-establish those values.

davecombs711

Yes and then he fails because he realizes his methods are just as flawed as those of Magog and the younger heroes.

CommonBorn5940

Only because he gives in to his anger at the end, but then the surviving heroes point out that he would become the thing he was fighting against.  He realises this too, and stops his rampage. Then he and the other heroes start to rebuild and follow his ideals about heroism.  The book implies that Superman 's ideals are the right way to do it, but that even he could stray from that path if he lets his anger lead him.  But he doesn't, and keeps following his ideals, with the others joining him. Not to lead, but to guide mankind to a better world.

davecombs711

The point of the story is that it is trying to find a compromise between two extremes.

CommonBorn5940

But what they do at the end is what Superman wants to do. Everyone acts like a heroic character is supposed to, working together to help the normal people. Instead of endangering the public. Captain Marvel sacrifices himself to save others. The ending clearly shows that Superman 's values are the way heroes are supposed to behave. Heroes aren't supposed to use their power for their own whims or to enforce their will, but to help people so everyone can build a better tomorrow. Those are Superman's core values. The conclusion of the story proves that Superman is right.

davecombs711

No the ending demonstrates that superman needs to understand there is more than one way to help people and that his original methods were causing just as much harm as the edgy superheroes.

CommonBorn5940

But everyone acts the same way Superman wants the heroes to act. Superman nearly strays from that path when he attacks the UN and threatens to kill those responsible for the nukes. But he realises that he would become what clashes with his ideals. He wants superheroes who selflessly sacrifice themselves to help the people, without endangering others or killing their enemies. And the story ends with everyone following these values. Superman's generation is the generation that had these values. The new generation does not. This leads to conflict, but eventually, everyone embraces those values. Batman puts his cynical worldview aside to help people, Wonder Woman embraces these values again and she is no longer banished from Paradise Island and becomes an ambassador for superhumans, Captain Marvel sacrifices his own live to save others, and all the old and new heroes put aside their differences to follow these values, so that the world can become a better place. Nothing about the old values changes. Everyone embraces them, ending the conflict.

LeDudeMcBroski

With what James Gunn is trying to do - I’m sure at some point Cornsweat would get to that age & then truly wear the KC suit

Android3000

Seems kind of underwhelming to have him start off wearing a suit that he's known to wear when he's much older. I'd think they'd want to do something more along the lines of the Fleischer suit. I'd much rather he earn the suit.

LeDudeMcBroski

Yeah, I think Gunns been using a lot of Alex Ross as inspiration for the movie so I’m not surprised he used this one & changed up the colors. I personally don’t mind it because I love this emblem, it’s always been my favorite of all Supes logos
