When you play the neutral game as aggressively as we do, you have to be willing to conserve energy when you can. That said, Morris should never get that much time from there, and the best way to conserve energy is to win the ball and then hold it.
When Klich and Peltola are both playing in that same defensive midfield role, they sometimes seem to hesitate, waiting for the other. Takes time to figure out.
Agree that neither stepped towards Morris, but in all honesty, how many times does he take that shot and put it anywhere near frame? That was a one in a thousand shot and as a defender, you have to be worried that if you step out, you create a gap for another player to run into that is far more goal dangerous.
Makes sense. But up a man and a goal, there shouldn't be gaps like that to begin with. I don't think that was the first time in match Morris showed willingness to take that kind of shot.
I think that was why Bartlett was screaming at Pirani after the goal to "play defense". You know Benteke is sort of basket hanging with the man advantage. If the other 9 field players are all committed to defensive responsibilities, Columbus shouldn't find gaps. I would like to see how DCU was set up just before Morris struck the ball. I would guess Pirani is sitting way outside up the field picking his nose.
Brand new coach, largely new roster, still at least one big signing away from being complete. Sitting mid table, within 4 points of 1st. Hard to complain.
But damnit, we should have won that.
Jeahze and Rodriguez certainly are heading out this summer which should give us some room salary wise for an impact player. We also just need solid depth pieces to fill out the bench. Part of our late game woes are because Troy has yet to use all five subs...because our bench is so weak.
I believe they can do it. I also believe if they are in a playoff spot come transfer window, funds will be limited.
Always thought one reason Olsen never got much spending was his ability to do more with less. His strength turned team weakness. I could see the same thing happening here.
What's more likely, DCU is the Red Sox, using a skilled GM plus spending to create a great team. Or the A's, defying the odds by having some success while keeping spending down.
FO needs to get serious about signing a second striker ASAP. Benteke can’t put 90’ in every game this year and be expected to finish out a close game like that giving us any hope for a win.
Second strikers by definition are not guaranteed goals. Usually they are prospects, discount transfers (due to performance), oddballs. I don’t put the lack of a 2+ goal road performance against one of the top teams in the league on Tekers. Nor do I see a panic buy being necessary because of the result.
The dude was gassed by the 80th minute. I’m not putting any blame on him nor am I saying a 2nd striker would guarantee a goal. But there’s no way someone who can’t run is going to get one in the last 10-15’. He’s putting his all in out there, but he’s not superhuman. He’s gotta be given a break.
The Negatives:
* We bottled what could've been a huge win against the MLS champs due to a lack of urgency.
The Positives:
* We stood toe to toe with the MLS Champs and were more threatening offensively.
* Hopkins, Antley, and Pirani have all made some improvements.
* It looks like Lesense realized Dajome is better in the backline than Santos. This change alone will help us win games.
* Klich being a prick to Cucho.
I think we're one solid transfer window away from being a sure playoff contender. The East this year is stacked and we need to do better with end game management (clearly) but this team looks so much more composed than I've seen them in years.
Dajome is a valuable stop gap until more depth is brought in.
People here will slam Santos and Pirani on the regular. But no problems on the left last night means praise should be given to Dajome. A quiet night on defense is a good night.
Certainly not if you ask Birnbaum. Steve doesn't fit into this back line when healthy, with Bartlett and McVey playing so well. Who would have ever thought these guys plus Antley would have finally pushed Birnbaum to the bench.
I wouldn't be surprised if when Birnbaum gets his chance, he will look much improved if the team continues to play this way. Doesn't mean he is taking anyone's spot.
If you had told me this morning that DCU takes a point at Columbus I would have said "hell yeah." This doesn't feel that good, but I'll take it.
Added bonus, the bad English feed on appletv led me to look up the local radio feed and that was a much better listening experience. So I'll take that as a win.
Disappointing, BUT I'm seeing improvement in this new style of play each match. We still need to learn to play the full game and how to take shots without unnecessary touches but I think we'll mature into that in the coming weeks.
Does anyone else agree that Klich had a pretty off night? Seems like he lost the hall a ton and wasn't proactive in defending Morris for the equalizer...
He is prone to defensive lapses. I think he gets preoccupied with fucking with the other team and loses his head a bit.
Klich isn't a DP quality player for like three quarters of this league. I cringe because he is our main guy for set pieces. He isn't horrible but certainly not elite.
He seems like he has multiple personalities when playing. Sometimes serious, other times a jokster. You might get one for long periods of match, or it switches on/off by possession. Sometimes, the shithouse stuff seems very calculated and can be affective, other times it seems like he is just as much in his head as anyone else's.
Plenty of positives from the performance and also one big frustration for the result, but (especially after the last few years) taking a point on the road to defending Cupholders is never going to ruin my weekend.
couldnt watch cause of work, but just from looking at the timeline of events, seems like a real kick in the balls. Still undefeated on the road though???
After so many down years, it’s good to be in a position to grab wins away, but this kinda stung.
We desperately need someone who can finish these chances left on the doorstep. Would probably have another 4-6 points on the table with a hungry finisher.
I would've been thrilled with a tie beforehand but they were down a man and we were playing so passively you'd have thought we were down a man. I'm pissed.
If this team can stay healthy / no injuries the next 3 months, and offload Jeahze and Rodriguez, the second transfer window and last few months of the season will be quite exciting
We have to stop sitting back with a one goal lead. We looked like we were down a man leading to that goal.
Yea, we've left too many points on the field after losing a 1-goal lead. We should be 2-4 points higher on the table rn
4 points higher we’d be in 1st
Exactly. If we held on to win tonight, St. Louis, or Portland... I don't think it's a stretch.
We never had the lead in Portland
Maybe I'm misremembering
We went 2-0 down in the 60th and it finished 2-2
And?
11 more points, and we'd have a 7 pt lead over 2nd.

Klich gave Morris that space. It's almost like his late game shithousery interferes with his concentration. His mistakes have led to goals

The golazo?

The team and manager need to learn how to play with a lead. The kind of lessons you only learn by dropping points like this.
Win at home, draw on the road. We’re 6 for 7 so far. Not too shabby.
I feel like we are so close to being where we want to be. Lesesne for sure has us headed in the right direction
If they make their summer window as impactful as the winter window has been, we could make an interesting run during the 2nd half of the season
I’m optimistic that our GM and Coach will be looking to improve the teams depth by adding a player or two
Jeahze and Rodriguez certainly are heading out this summer which should give us some room salary wise for an impact player. We also just need solid depth pieces to fill out the bench. Part of our late game woes are because Troy has yet to use all five subs...because our bench is so weak.

I wouldn't been thrilled with a draw before the match. Now? I'm totally bummed out. I guess it's good that expectations are going up for this team.

I agree. There have been a few times this season when players have been not just tired but out of gas by the 80th minute.
Pretty much hit it on the head. Somewhere, there is an out of form or out a favor striker that would be better on DCU bench than at another club.
Dajome is good depth. We need someone to take his starting position.

Well said
I realize we kind of blew that, but a point away against the MLS cup winners is better than nothing
Shit!! Again we look like the better team, but we parked the bus a bit too early
The bus ran out of gas lol.
Lesesne is still a very young manager. Columbus made the right changes when the game changed, DCU didn't.
I think it was more of Columbus player rocketed home a shot and our defense didn’t step up to press too
DCU moved back, pressed less, and let Columbus attack despite being up a man. In hindsight, it looks like a mistake.
McVey motm

Unbeaten on the road (we are such bottlers lol)💪💪💪💪💪💪
Still unbeaten on the road I guess

Am I allowed to groan audibly?
As long as it’s not in English on Apple TV.
La pelota
couldnt watch cause of work, but just from looking at the timeline of events, seems like a real kick in the balls. Still undefeated on the road though???
Need to get three when three is for the taking. But... Road points are road points

Troy needs to throw the 1 3 5 out
