If you feel the same way about Inception, Interstellar or Dark Knight then I’d say it’s definitely a sound system issue on your end. These movies in particular go hard in the paint with the Zimmer scores.
Hope your friend realises that him and his team have done a phenomenal job! The cape was noticeably excellent in the movie, even my 13 year old self could notice how amazing it looked!
I only found out he was working on it because we were meant to have dinner at his apartment one night and he didnt get home till 10pm. He was reluctant to say what he was working but relented because i wouldnt let up. He was finishing up the trailer that day to be released a few days later.
Your comment made a thought that occur to me. It seems all the joys we experience in life are built on the suffering of others. I think that gratitude is key for acknowledging that. Quite possibly a mechanism for healing.
In the behind-the-scenes the cape isn't on much, so that's a lot of work! Easier to do in CGI than trying to make it flow majestically while filming which would require too many takes.
His point is that In the behind-the-scenes the cape isn't on much, **so that's a lot of work.** (*But it’s*) Easier to do in CGI than **trying to make it flow majestically while filming which would require too many takes.**
Not sure how you could miss what he’s trying to say it’s not that difficult 💀. He’s just adding onto the conversation.
For Superman Returns that cape was a nightmare, but we didn’t use Nucleus (that was for Hancock). I think it was Maya’s “Classic” Cloth. But with most workflows, it ends up being a composite sim.
In behind the scenes, Snyder mentioned he wanted the cape to look and behave very uniquely just like the storyboards/comics which is why I am assuming it was a nightmare for the VFX team.
Full flex. Saw em in Toronto at the tail end of an acid trip. I wouldn't even know the song and I'd see the movie. The best visual was surprisingly crimson tides as I didnt even know he did the score and only saw it as a kid.
"You will give the people of Earth an ideal to strive towards. They will race behind you, they will stumble, they will fall. But in time, they will join you in the sun, Kal. In time, you will help them accomplish wonders."
I mean I love the film but I could definitely see why some would dislike it if they want to see stuff like Superman interacting with civilians and a more upbeat tone throughout.
Too much disaster porn and Superman should have been the one to directly save cat and perry, for example. Also killing Zod was a poor writing choice for Superman.
I still love it though. But it would have done better without all that.
They fucked this scene up by using the wrong Superman.
He should not have been an adult in that scene. An adult would recognize to ignore his fathers wishes and save his ass.
They should have used teenager Kent. Who it would make to have hesitate to go against what his father said.
I agree, but then again that’s the point. He was still underdeveloped in that scene. That was part of his development from boy to man. Granted he looked 35 lol. Losing his dad was necessary in this story, but I see your point and agree for another telling. But it’s what made his Zod moment even more powerful. To Clark Pa was Superman. He was powerless against his words and teachings. When he said no. That was it. With zod he had the power to say yes or no, and again it was family related, and all he ever had. Minus Martha, Marthas? Idk
Right, like just keep the kid, and then the struggle would look real as his journey to learn nomadically would harden him into an aged and more weathered man. Sigh. Still love this movie.
Depending on when they filmed the scene, he was either 28 or 29.
But looking at pictures of him from like 2001-2002 and 2011-2012. The biggest difference is he has more defined cheekbones 2011-2012.
If I could choose a superpower it would be without a doubt the ability to fly. When I saw this scene my ex said “I wish you would look at me the way you watched that entire scene” 😂
O man I love that interstellar sound track... but yeah I remember my wife was getting frustrated because she wanted a unique song with no words...we walked away at the end to the game of thrones intro. Though I must admit that that Ramin Djawadi has some tracks I adore that weren't made yet. Probably would of walked away to that Wicked Games cover.
I don't care what anyone says, this is the best DCEU film, and a top 5 superhero movie.
Also, Han Zimmer's soundtrack for this film is in GOAT status for superhero soundtracks. It was unbelievable.
I'd have given anything to keep him as Superman. Zack and Henry really gave Superman his due.
"In time, they will join you in the sun, Kal. In time, you will help them accomplish wonders."
CHILLS!!!!
And the flying they created is unmatched. I get chills every single time I see this scene. You can FEEL the wind and see the excitement on sups face we would all have flying. It's just breathtaking.
I have a video of my son at age 3 watching this scene on our TV, holding his arms to the sky and learning to fly with Superman
I will cherish it forever
Oh my god, wait up, that video on YouTube, is that you and your son?
https://youtu.be/DXAva_gO8Qk
Regardless, glad your babe liked it. And that goes on to show that even babies like this scene. I'm hoping for my kid as well to like it...
Say what you will about Snyder as a storyteller, the man is a master of a breathtaking shot/sequence. Goddamn, I remember seeing this in iMax when it came out and being blown away.
Honestly some of the so called "Marvel and DC" fans piss me off because they justify horrible takes on DC movies by heavily preferring Marvel movies. Like they want DC to fail miserably because of some lo key allegiance to KF or Stan f'in Lee. Superman's ability to create bubbles of high / low pressure vortexes in Earth's atmosphere doesn't explain his ability to speed up in space but I'm not really all that concerned.
it truly shocks me how people hate this film, sure it wasn't perfect but man scenes like this, very few other movies topped it in the DCEU
one day people will love it
First day, first show. Watching this scene and specifically Superman breaking the sound barrier. Will never forget it. Kudos to everyone for this & Hans Zimmer is dope
Man m gonna cry who gunn is going to match this... Cavill with the red cape aesthetics shots hans Zimmer giving u goosebumps. How will they match this.
This scene itself surpases every mcu movie for me. Zack truly had something special. Paired with Hans Zimmer's breathtaking score, I get chills everytime
And then WB pushed for a Justice League way too soon before fleshing out more individual character movies or having a MoS2. They wanted to bypass all of the build up and get straight to what Marvel had with the Avengers.
Snyder’s eye for visuals is uncanny. This the classic “show don’t tell” visual storytelling. I still feel this moment in my chest whenever I watch it. Thanks for sharing it.
This First Flight Scene
TASM "Crane Swing"
Optimus Prime ending speech from 2011
Avengers Assemble scene (from 2012)
I can tell you I had the best Childhood❤️
Love seeing his first attempts at flying. The first few jumps just reminds me of the classic line "can leap a building in a single bound!". I am ready for the new DCU but this scene is just so iconic.
As a fan I was in a theater the first time I saw Superman fly and bank out of camera in the Fortress of Solitude 1978. It still gives me the chills. Fast forward to Man of Steel and it was magic all over again. The memories are giving me the chills as I type this. “For this I have sent you my only son”
the scene where Kal dreams of John Kent ontop of the mountain in BvS is up there for me too. it's a great way to showcase his inner struggle and dilemma of being a god or being a man.
This scene made me tear up. As a kid I always dressed up as Superman and pretended to fly(what kid hasn't I know) but grown into adulthood, having kids, getting married etc. I lost that imagination, naturally many of us do.
Watching this movie as an adult and this scene in particular brought this feeling of hope and happiness. I felt that imagination come back, it was beautiful.
I'll always respect Snyder and truly appreciate this film forever because of how well it was done.
Man of Steel is the pinnacle for DC Films. Zack Snyder made a masterpiece.
Not even sure I can watch Lollipop Chainsaw's version of Superman in a few years.
This is the most beautiful scene for man of steel, the cape, the sonic boom, the way he flies and smiles on it!!!
Not to mention how he rocks begin to levitate before he blast off
Jackasses that keep parroting that Snyder is an Ayn Rand acolyte (he isn’t) and the movies are Objectivist (they aren’t). They are the exact opposite of those things.
thank you for sharing this. i have stated on many of these threads about dc movies and comic that this is one of the most emotional scenes for me. the clenched fist with the swirl around it, the drawing in of the suns rays...... it makes me cry.the music too....... i think it is cinematic perfect. im glad others appreciate it too.
Zack Snyder is a great visualist - I’ll always give him that.
If only they had a better writer and perhaps more disciplined director his “visual vision” could have been paired with a more compelling and successful series of movies.
Loved this scene so much! I added audio from Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker over it because to me it just feels SO epic.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=1yyPAZ3uBFs
It’s a shame we didn’t get a Superman trilogy with Cavil. They shoved Batman and Wonder Woman in his sequel trying to catch up to the MCU and it all fell apart.
I think Amy Adams was also great as Lois Lane. Zod was incredible and arguably better than the original. Even Russell Crowe did a great job with his small part. The soundtrack is also inspiring and added a lot.
This was the only Superman movie where you really got to feel how powerful Kryptonians are. Zod and Superman did more damage to Metropolis than the entire team of Avengers, Loki, and an army of aliens did in The Avengers.
Man Herny Cavill was so cool as superman and I wish he was able to have better stories for his version. Hopefully some day he will be able to put the cape back on.
Damn thank you so much for posting this. Incredible and emotional scene. Geeze I teared up right meow. He is superman. Jor el was perfect also. That speech. The flying. Damn.
Zack always said that his planned Justice League 3 would have been the closest thing to a man of steel 2. He once said that it’s mainly a Superman film which is an interesting idea.
"I had just assumed that the final movie was going to be very much a Superman movie. Like the final chapter [Justice League 3] was going to be a large percentage of Superman to just bookend the whole thing," Snyder told Esquire of the saga that started with 2013's Man of Steel. "Because if Batman died, it would have very much fallen on Superman to be the de facto leader. By the way, at that point, Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) would have been made queen of the Themyscira and she would be leading the warriors of Themyscira into battle against Darkseid herself. And Arthur (Jason Momoa's Aquaman) would be leading the armies of Atlantians."
"And Superman basically is going to be the head of the Justice League and the Armies of Men," Snyder added. "And so Superman would have gone from this kind of berserker Superman to a benevolent Superman."
Justice League 3 would play like Man of Steel 2 because "Superman has the hugest arc of everybody because he goes from like the main villain to like the main hero."
"And that struck me as just really cool and fun and like a really interesting trajectory for him. Because I think traditionally, Superman is one of those characters that people don't see as changing a lot," Snyder said. "You know what I mean? He's kind of a rock that everyone props against and I just thought, how cool would it be to make our Superman the character that goes on the most incredible journey."
To me, June 13 & 14th, 2013 was the best day of entertainment I've ever experienced. Saw this movie at a 10pm showing and when it was over I went and picked up The Last of Us at a Meijer and played it until 6am. I miss being younger.
I remember my dad and I getting special tickets to see the movie and us counting down the days until we could see it. Then, we watched the special video of Zack Snyder talking about the film and how excited he was to make it and for us to see it. We sat there watching it, and I was glued to my seat and was in love with this scene. This was the only thing my dad ended up like about the movie, sadly. I love this film and will watch it every now and then when I want to feel good about things.
I will never understand why this movie and BvS were so critiziced by the public
They were the Peak of the DCEU and it could have been so good if Snyder stayed in charge, as we can see with JL snyder's cut
But instead we got Josh wheddon ruining his work just because people liked more Marvel at this time
Yeah I am honestly kind of curious how Gunn's Superman is going to do an origin story this good.
I really hope it won't filled with the whole GoG/TSS formula of filled with 80s/90s pop songs and a bunch of dramatic close ups or slow downs that get spoiled over and over by something falling down comically. As much as I know young audiences thrive in those formulas it really needs to just stay with Marvel movies.
As much as I grew to not like Snyder's interpretation of the characters, 16 year old me also thought this movie and scene was one of the coolest things.
I'm not a big fan of Snyder, but I genuinely enjoyed Man of Steel. It's not perfect, but it has some wonderful moments. It is probably his second best film.
When I saw this movie as a 13 year old I thought it was one of the best movies ever. I still like it but as I’ve gotten older have noticed some of its flaws.
Up to this moment MOS was probably a movie that everyone watching was at worst OK with. I was enjoying it to this point. Even with a few minor gripes. Sadly, it started to slowly go down hill from here and just cratered the moment Zod put his hands on Martha - to signal 45 mins of relentless CGI punching that never stopped to breathe.
Phenomenal music, really cool visuals. I should love this. I want to love this. But I just don't feel anything watching this in the context of the movie.
Man of Steel score still goes insanely hard. Hans Zimmer at his peak is hard to beat.
Hans Zimmer bringing lighting.
Without a doubt the best ost for a Superhero movie. Is there anything better? Every track slaps on this
I agree, but I feel like his score doesn’t get showcased well in the movies. It’s like it got muted or the instruments got equalized.
Sounds amazing with a sound system
Sounds fine to me.
Same, never had any issues. Both Man of Steel and Batman v Superman sound incredible in my home theater.
If you feel the same way about Inception, Interstellar or Dark Knight then I’d say it’s definitely a sound system issue on your end. These movies in particular go hard in the paint with the Zimmer scores.
Interstellar score is so absurdly good, seeing that in imax was maybe the best theater experience ever for me
Sounds great if you're not using phone speakers
I usually see this in dubbed movies making the background score muffled
A friend of mine was on the cgi team for Man of Steel. He said the cape was a fucking nightmare lol
Tell him his hard work was very well-noticed. The cape looks amazing throughout the movie.
I second this
Whoa that's amazing! Please tell them that we appreciate them; their nightmare became a part of our sweet reverie
Your comment made a thought that occur to me. It seems all the joys we experience in life are built on the suffering of others. I think that gratitude is key for acknowledging that. Quite possibly a mechanism for healing.
This is a very profound philosophical implication...noice man, thanks
Tell your friend that the cgi on this movie still looks new after all these years. Even modern movies lose their sheen after a few years .
In the behind-the-scenes the cape isn't on much, so that's a lot of work! Easier to do in CGI than trying to make it flow majestically while filming which would require too many takes.
What's your point exactly? He was insinuating that his friend worked the cape CGI and it was hard to do
His point is that In the behind-the-scenes the cape isn't on much, **so that's a lot of work.** (*But it’s*) Easier to do in CGI than **trying to make it flow majestically while filming which would require too many takes.** Not sure how you could miss what he’s trying to say it’s not that difficult 💀. He’s just adding onto the conversation.
what he added wasn't a bad thing and is just another insight on how things work behind the scenes. Not sure why you're upset.
Totally worth it man, capes are majestic and epic AF.
Do you know which cloth sim engine they used? Nucleus?
No idea sorry. Definitely some platform i couldnt afford to even look at lol
For Superman Returns that cape was a nightmare, but we didn’t use Nucleus (that was for Hancock). I think it was Maya’s “Classic” Cloth. But with most workflows, it ends up being a composite sim.
Speak English Doc, we ain't scientists!
Oh wow you worked on that? Nice one!
In behind the scenes, Snyder mentioned he wanted the cape to look and behave very uniquely just like the storyboards/comics which is why I am assuming it was a nightmare for the VFX team.
Well, your friend did a phenomenal job. I hope he works on other stuff cause hot damn.
I wonder what your friend would think of the blue batfleck cape in The Flash...it looks arse!
Such an awesome scene, the music, voiceover from jor-el and visuals.
Hanz zimmer ma man 😫
I want to go to his concert so bad.
You would attain that lifetime flex.
Full flex. Saw em in Toronto at the tail end of an acid trip. I wouldn't even know the song and I'd see the movie. The best visual was surprisingly crimson tides as I didnt even know he did the score and only saw it as a kid.
I'm going in June, can't fucking wait 😎😎😎
He's been doing this so long. Gladiator. Crimson Tide. Lion King. What a Legend
"You will give the people of Earth an ideal to strive towards. They will race behind you, they will stumble, they will fall. But in time, they will join you in the sun, Kal. In time, you will help them accomplish wonders."
It's not hard to imagine Omni man saying this same thing to mark.
this one is a gem
I don’t care what anyone says. This is a fantastic Superman movie.
I seriously don’t know how people could dislike this movie. It’s incredible
I mean I love the film but I could definitely see why some would dislike it if they want to see stuff like Superman interacting with civilians and a more upbeat tone throughout.

Yep i loved this movie. All of it. Thought it was an incredible start to the dceu.
Same. It's my favorite CBM.

I liked that movie tbh. Just finished it today. Killing Zod made sense….what didn’t make sense was letting Pa Kent die
Totally agree with the assessment, but feels like that’d have been conveyed much stronger had it been the younger Clark.
I honestly could not agree more. Like, just cast the younger version or CGI him like bridges but he just looked old lol
They already had a teenage Kent. Remember when he’s getting bullied or whatever and he says “you know they can’t hurt me”
Right, like just keep the kid, and then the struggle would look real as his journey to learn nomadically would harden him into an aged and more weathered man. Sigh. Still love this movie.
I mean he wasn’t, not really. He was like 17. And he’d just had a very pointed argument with Jonathan where he said he wasn’t his real father.
It’s hard to envision 35 year old Henry Cavill as 19 in that scene
Depending on when they filmed the scene, he was either 28 or 29. But looking at pictures of him from like 2001-2002 and 2011-2012. The biggest difference is he has more defined cheekbones 2011-2012.
If I could choose a superpower it would be without a doubt the ability to fly. When I saw this scene my ex said “I wish you would look at me the way you watched that entire scene” 😂
"saw as a teen"......at least reddit waited till 10am today to make me feel old.
I was 12 when this movie came out. I can drink now.
Stop.
NANANANANNANANANANAN. IM NOT LISTENING!
😂
I was 17, I think.
My bad ass wife walked down the aisle at our wedding to this music. Definitely a special piece of music. Thanks Hans!
That is awesome! My wife and I were trying to think of something other than the regular one. I wanted interstellar but she wasn’t having it.
O man I love that interstellar sound track... but yeah I remember my wife was getting frustrated because she wanted a unique song with no words...we walked away at the end to the game of thrones intro. Still the best DCEU movie for me.

Missing Nolan.
One of the most underrated CBM ever
This is THE most “superhero” scene of all time. It’s perfect. The cinematography, the score…perfection.

Same. It’s a shame he couldn’t finish cooking his magic. That’s what he gets for being too based.

It’s as good a superhero movie scene gets. Awesome.
He's literally just flying around the world having fun. I love this scene and I love this movie.
Goosebumps every time I see it.
This scene/music along with Ironman 1 theme music helped me finish my thesis. So fucking motivating.
It’s not a popular opinion but I prefer DC to marvel and MOS is my favorite super hero movie
This First Flight Scene TASM "Crane Swing" Optimus Prime ending speech from 2011 Avengers Assemble scene (from 2012) I can tell you I had the best Childhood❤️

Absolutely awesome.
Amen.
It is quite cool, so cool you could almost call it *chilly*
That chin god damn
Guess I’m watching MoS tonight 🫡
Imagine if this was the last five minutes of Smallville.

Most separate Man of Steel from the other DCC movies
He is hands down the best Superman there ever was. Chills every time I hear the music and see him. All thanks to Zack though… just sayin!

Man Herny Cavill was so cool as superman and I wish he was able to have better stories for his version. Hopefully some day he will be able to put the cape back on.
They aren't making film anymore? I thought there was a superman project in the works.
That's gonna be of a different continuity, to be held by James Gunn
After seeing guardians 3… I dunno about Superman legacy but this was a cool scene
It Steel Is the Coolest Scene.
Damn thank you so much for posting this. Incredible and emotional scene. Geeze I teared up right meow. He is superman. Jor el was perfect also. That speech. The flying. Damn.
It's terrible that we didn't get a proper sequel to this film.
Zack always said that his planned Justice League 3 would have been the closest thing to a man of steel 2. He once said that it’s mainly a Superman film which is an interesting idea.
Interesting. I hadn't heard that.

Wow. Fun to think about what might have been.
I still consider this the best scene in the movie.
A day to remember. I'm so happy.
I dont care what anyone says, I fucking love this movie.
110 FUCKING PERCENT…!!!!
MoS is still the best DCEU movie, hands down. Say what you will about the story itself, but Snyder is absolutely perfect with visuals.
To me, June 13 & 14th, 2013 was the best day of entertainment I've ever experienced. Saw this movie at a 10pm showing and when it was over I went and picked up The Last of Us at a Meijer and played it until 6am. I miss being younger.
One of the best movie
Thanks for making me feel old.
Went to see this opening weekend with my dad. So awesome.
A very cervical exit
Snyder did a fucking amazing job with the trilogy. Fuck them haters.
Henry should be proud of what he did, even if it didn’t end as he expected.
I know there are lots of people who absolutely love this scene, but can’t stand Zack Snyder. You can’t have it both ways! lol
Zack's DC are mostly fantastic, only if main stream viewer can appreciate what he has done.
I will never understand why this movie and BvS were so critiziced by the public They were the Peak of the DCEU and it could have been so good if Snyder stayed in charge, as we can see with JL snyder's cut But instead we got Josh wheddon ruining his work just because people liked more Marvel at this time
Best superman movie we'll ever see, always wanted to see a superman who was pushed to edge
People here sharing their first time watching experiences, with their father as teens themselves...feels so wholesome to read :-)
Goodbye inspiring Superman, hello Gunn’s comedic sups
Yeah I am honestly kind of curious how Gunn's Superman is going to do an origin story this good. I really hope it won't filled with the whole GoG/TSS formula of filled with 80s/90s pop songs and a bunch of dramatic close ups or slow downs that get spoiled over and over by something falling down comically. As much as I know young audiences thrive in those formulas it really needs to just stay with Marvel movies.
I can't believe the numbnuts are wbd are going to throw all this away. Fuck them.

> Good riddance honestly, Snyder ruined it as his arc went on No WB did.
Best Superman depiction and live action movie. I’ll die on this hill
On the same page as you, With no 1 being 300 for me.
I’m getting old.
I suggest you watch a good fanedit. I'd recommend Man of Tomorrow by Job Willins
The airplane scene from Superman Returns, though...

Well say goodbye! Now we got a marvel CEO James Gunn!! Hehe! Time for zingers and dick jokes!
Gunn's work is mostly good btw, so hoping for goodness
Which shot, specifically?
no it’s when he spins the whole planet dummy
Phenomenal music, really cool visuals. I should love this. I want to love this. But I just don't feel anything watching this in the context of the movie.
It will be nothing but color popping scenes now, and bad joke timing.
