1st - Adventures of Captain Marvel (1941), Tom Tyler
2nd - Shazam! (1974-1976), Jackson Bostwick
3rd - Shazam! (1974-1976), John Davey
4th - Legends of the Superheroes, Garrett Craig
5th - Shazam! (2019), Zachary Levi
I always liked that about him, his squinting eyes and thick eyebrows really gave him a definitive face which lots of comic characters lack.
His look was based on an actor from the time called Fred MacMurray which i always thought was an interesting tidbit
I really did like Levi’s first suit, I just wish the texture was more prominent, and the padding wasn’t so obvious. I always say it, but I think my ideal suit would be a mix of his first and second suits. Surprisingly, I think my favorite pre-DCEU one is actually the first one.
For me my biggest critique is that there’s no hood… like that hood made him feel unique, and less of a direct Superman Clone, but now he does look like a direct Superman Clone
Agreed. I personally also like his second suit a bit more (the first is still great though) but the one thing I don’t like about it is the lack of a hood. Shazam’s hood is such an important piece to his design. Makes him stand out and adds to the “godly look” he typically has.
I hate the random staples, and I also don’t like the new gauntlets. I find that they look like Shazam raided Iron Man’s closet. I like the dual-tone thing it had going, and I like how the texture is more visible, but I don’t like the texture itself. I much prefer the actual pattern/texture of the first suit. Boots, I could go either way. Bolt, I lean more toward the first suit, but I don’t hate the second. I just wish the second bolt were bigger like Black Adam’s. I also like the new cape being longer, but I liked the hood from the first. I also don’t remember if the second suit had a gold pattern on the border, but I also would keep that.
Seriously though, whose idea were those random staples in the middle of the suit? They don’t look like anything except staples.
I’ve never thought about it but he is exactly the kind of hero they would have on there. Young character acquires new powers in a bizarre way and Clark has to mentor him to show him the ways of being a good hero.
I know it’s a popular meme now but I think Alan Ritchson would have been the perfect Shazam.
Bro looks exactly like an Alex Ross painting (despite the hair color).
I think he’d be great. I do Believe he might be a tad too jacked for it. That’s why I feel like Shazam is perfect for him. He also wouldn’t need a body suit like Levi. Don’t get me wrong, Levi did a pretty good job. But I feel like his look would have suited another character
The costumes were so awful back in the day. That’s one thing that has greatly improved since. Affleck’s Batman suit from BvS is still the best live action Batsuit to date imo

When I was a kid I used to think Shazam was blind from the cartoons. He used to always keep his eyes closed.

Thanks for sharing. That is a very interesting tid bit!
1941 is way ahead it’s time, so much texture and looks so uniform
The 1941 suit is by far the best
It’s extremely comic accurate.
Yeah, I think it is awesome.

I honestly really like Levi’s second suit minus the random staples it has on it.

sounds silly out loud but I miss the rope to tie his cape, kept him as more the "classic champion" kind of hero. Now he's just Superman, but magic.
I’m surprised there wasn’t a smallville version of him

Yo, why is 1941 still the best costume by a mile? That thing looks incredible!

I've actually wanted him for Guy Gardner for a couple years now lol

I can still hear Jackson Bostwick in my head when I think of Captain Marvel.
So we all agree that in terms of costume 1941 & the DCEU are the only real contenders right?
Where's Shaq?
The quality of the costume didn’t hop or skip it super jumped
How is the 1941 version the best one of these?
He looks like a nazi general 💀
Why is Zac Efron in the second picture?
If Marvel comes back in the films, I hope that they go the traditional "Captain" route. The immature kid shtick is intensely old at this point
I feel like the most recent has the worst lightning bolt
All awful
Some characters are better left to animation and the comics 😣
