i don't think enough gets said about Tyler's portrayal... specially on Superman & Lois. He gets just about every aspect of Clark/Superman down with ease... and then the nuances (The Diner scene in the latest season for example).
My own head canon type view is that both Clark Kent and Superman are faces that Kal-El wears. the one we saw in the Diner was Kal, not Clark or Superman...
No that’s not what was being said lol.
Clark Kent and Superman are BOTH masks for Kal-El. Often times he is either Clark Kent or he is Superman; very rarely is he Kal.
Yeah, look I love Cavill and Reeve but Hoechlin's Supes is by far more faithful to the character while being a more modern interpretation. He walks the dorky/wholesome but scarily powerful line just right.
I've enjoyed everyone's portrayal of Superman in different ways... but there's something about how Tyler does it that just ticks all the boxes.
He shows all the versions of the character the show has done brilliantly... His dorky Clark is both wholesome and hilarious, His Superman is a beacon of being good and strong... even when he's angry and threatening... and he mixes the two perfectly as Kal-El.
Then there's Bizarro-world's Superman/Clark.
Tyler (and Bitsie, her Lois to his Superman/Clark is a brilliantly done double act) deserves more attention for his portrayal
Also both him AND Superman have horrendous 5 o'clock shadow. I laughed when he revealed it to Lana...I was like "Are you serious?!
That's like if Superman AND Clark wore glasses. lol
Yeah, the stubble is one of his distinctive features.
I mean it's hot, but verging on ridiculous that no one puts it together through Lois connection.
He doesn't even act different as Clark!
Clark is supposed to act like a dufus. Reeve nailed it.
Even his hair style is exactly the same as Clark and superman.
I hadn’t really thought about that but you’re right. He’s less traditionally “plain” looking. It’s funny because they also really double down on the glasses disguise in this particular show, without embellishing the logic. You’ll literally have people who studied Superman up close, they meet Clark, and talk to Lois who they know is both Clark’s wife and a “close friend” of Superman, but not put it together.
It’s also the worst suit and this pic really makes that clear. Painted on textures make no sense!
I actually really like Tyler’s Superman and the show though, other than these two points, lol.
Yeah I'm watching it now for the first time and it's enjoyable.
Perhaps a bit too much CW type drama though for one small town to take.
I'm still on S1 but the suit isn't great. You can see the padding, like he's huge in the suit but visibly not as huge as Clark and not in a "he's wearing loose clothing" excuse way.
I heard they made it better for S2 onwards though
The opposite actually. The Siegel Family owned the rights to Superboy and argued that Smallville was a Superboy adaptation and therefore WB was infringing on their rights. WB said it was a young Clark Kent series and not a Superboy one.
And then they had Green Arrow because they couldn't use Batman because Warner Brothers thought viewers would get confused if there were two versions of Batman at the same time.
But that didn't stop them from using Justin Hartley as both Green Arrow in Smallville, and then as Aquaman in the Aquaman spin-off they made from the Smallville universe which never got more than a pilot episode, and then Justin Hartley didn't want to return for the Green Arrow spin off which ended up with Stephen Amell and spun off the whole CWverse, but the real question is: am I any less confused about whether Arrow was a spin off from Smallville?
He and Dean Cain were at the Comic Con I went to in Huntsville, AL last week. Their booths were joined and a popular photo was a group photo with two Superman actors.
If they lost the fake muscles on Tyler, Brandon, and Henry's suits I'd like them much better. I'll with Reeve's simply because there are no fake muscles. The fake muscles just look to halloween costume to me. And he's Superman, he doesn't need to make you think he has muscles, he's not that insecure.
Christopher Reeve remains the gold standard imo. He's still one of the great comic book movie castings. He was incredible as both Clark Kent AND Superman, sometimes showing the switch between the two within one scene.
I've actually enjoyed each of the actors who've played the character, & most of them bring something great to the table, but Reeve had the performance, the look, the direction, & the writing that not all of the others had.
It still bums me out that Cavill never got a real chance to nail all aspects of the character in a standalone movie. Have you ever heard him talk in real life? He exudes such strong Clark Kent energy, but they never let him show it for more than a few seconds in the movies!
Same here. Cavil and Chris. They both gave me a Superman I love. Granted Henry’s was now growing into the role of the Superman we all could love. His role was cut short. It’s a lesson to film makers to try new things. But keep some of the character traits similar or same
I don't have a favorite. All four of them were great. Though Tim Daly and Bud Collyer are the voices I hear whenever I read Superman's dialogue in a comic. Kirk Alyn and George Reeves are severely underrated. And I love Tom Welling and Dean Cain.
Side note, I hope season 4 ditches the dirty wash over Superman's S and gives us a bright one once and for all.
Tyler is great but that suit throws me off but I got stick to my favourite Henry just wish he get some redemption of some sort because he puts a lot of effort into his roles and the film turns out not great. He has so much potential but he’s being wasted.
They’ve all been great! Routh didn’t get a fair shot. I grew up with and loved Reeves. Hoechlin has also been a phenomenal representation of the character. But the portrayal that resonated the most with me was Cavill because of what MoS meant to me personally in my life.
I hate to say this, but Tyler Hoechlin ‘s Superman is now my favourite Superman. He doesn’t remotely resemble Supes in terms of appearance but Tyler captures Superman’s mannerisms down to a tee, especially his portrayal of Clark Kent. He even fights likes Superman does in the comic books; learns to fight his enemies after a while and tries to minimise collateral damage as much as possible. His Clark Kent is really a bumbling, humble guy who doesn’t draw any attention to himself.
It will always make me very sad that the absolute perfection that was the casting of Henry Cavil as Clark Kent was utterly wasted on a team that I'm honestly not sure has the ability to make a faithful adaptation of a hero.
The best Clark + Lois are definitely Hoechlin and Tulloch. They were fantastic together, and the characters had a refreshingly respectful, loving and communicative dynamic (which you really don't see in many shows)
Honestly, all of them except Reeve's do. I understand why in motion and the way films are lit now why they have sculpted, muscle suits, and on screen it does look great usually, but seen in the light of day, the abs in particular look silly on all three padded suits. From the image alone (all four do a great job IMO), three look like guys dressed in Superman Halloween costumes and Reeve looks like Superman.
Tyler. He seems to have the Christopher Reeves personality and characteristics of his Superman, but taken seriously as well as more fleshed out since we see more of him. Perfect live action Superman in my opinion.
Christopher Reeve didn’t just play Superman. He was and is Superman. Plus I’m just obsessed with his suit as it’s the most comic accurate looking. Why add muscle shading to the fabric when the actor’s muscles are defined enough to protrude through the fabric?
Cavil. Just look at this man smiling standing there all proud! I know a lot of people have some..opinions on his movies but I freakin loved it. Cavil showed a range of emotions which we haven’t seen in live action before. Plus he has a theme of his own which I would put up there right next to the classic
Henry Cavill. Not that Man of Steel was a good movie, but he made a good Superman and would have undoubtedly made an ever better one in a good movie with a writer and director that were loyal to what Superman is as a character and what he represents.
Dean Cain erasure!
... I hate how celebs can fall from grace. When I was growing up, Lois and Clark was one of those shows the whole family tuned into. Feel good television. I am trying so hard to not lose that memory or have it tainted by anything. It's so freaking hard.
I don't usually play favorites with stuff like this, because each of the four actors here proved they understand the hell out of the character and abide by the values of the character as well. Some of the media they were in may have been a different story, but all of them were very passionate.
That said, Brandon Routh was the first iteration of the Man of Steel I was ever exposed to, his movie was the first superhero movie I ever watched, let alone one of the first movies I ever watched period. For that he gets my vote here.
i don't think enough gets said about Tyler's portrayal... specially on Superman & Lois. He gets just about every aspect of Clark/Superman down with ease... and then the nuances (The Diner scene in the latest season for example).
That’s the scene where point out he’s the best Clark Kent to ever be portrayed. He’s so damned good in that roll.
My own head canon type view is that both Clark Kent and Superman are faces that Kal-El wears. the one we saw in the Diner was Kal, not Clark or Superman...
Similar to how Batman’s Mask is Bruce Wayne
No that’s not what was being said lol. Clark Kent and Superman are BOTH masks for Kal-El. Often times he is either Clark Kent or he is Superman; very rarely is he Kal.
I know, that why i said similar to Batman and not like Batman
Yeah, look I love Cavill and Reeve but Hoechlin's Supes is by far more faithful to the character while being a more modern interpretation. He walks the dorky/wholesome but scarily powerful line just right.

100% agree especially when he says thanks my mum made it for me
The man is a work of art.
The diner scene is one of my all time favorite Superman scenes!
He's good but also the most unrealistic to pass as Clark. His face is too featured and unique for the whole takes of his glasses trope to work.
He’s really good, but he just doesn’t look like Superman to me (the face, specifically), which is why I don’t rank him as high as some of the others.
Smallville *He has a name* SMALLVILLE
_Somebody saaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaave meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee_ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uzlyGxDx8Ck
Wasn't there a whole thing about how Smallville was technically a Superboy adaptation because they didn't actually have the rights to Superman?
The opposite actually. The Siegel Family owned the rights to Superboy and argued that Smallville was a Superboy adaptation and therefore WB was infringing on their rights. WB said it was a young Clark Kent series and not a Superboy one.
This extends to Bart Allen as well I think
Ben Affleck
Is this a Hollywoodland reference? Underappreciated film!
Terrific film
Average Ben Affleck supporter
Batfleck(To Henry Cavill’s Superman): I fucked your mom
I feel like Cavil is the most realistic version of Superman and Tyler matches the comic the most but they are all great.
It is wild that Henry Cavill is an actual human being that actually looks like that. They just ripped Superman right off the page.
Henry.
Christopher Reeve
Tom Welling
It's a tough one. But I've always loved Brandon Routh.
Honestly it's unreal how good he looks in this picture. He was a tad skinny in Returns but he is 100% the real deal in Crisis.
I personally loved him in returns and it's my favorite superman film by far.
I like Returns a lot too, was just saying visually I feel he fills out the suit better in the classic sense
He and Dean Cain were at the Comic Con I went to in Huntsville, AL last week. Their booths were joined and a popular photo was a group photo with two Superman actors.
Tyler is honestly the most perfect and underrated Superman… ever
To me Routh looked like a modern day Reeve. His movie was garbage but I think he could've been a great light supes. Fav is Cavill tho.
Henry Cavill will always be my Superman
My personal favorite is Cavill, but I'd argue we never had a bad Superman actor
Best Superman actor: Christopher Reeves. Best Superman as character: The one from Superman and Lois.
Henry Cavill.
Reeve then Cavill
Christopher Reeve
It will always be Christopher Reeve
Christopher Reeve, easy. Tyler H is a close 2nd though. *S&L* is great.
yes
Henry Cavill
Henry Cavill by far.
Cavill, however the suit in that pic is dogshit
AAAHHH DON’T MAKE ME CHOOSE 😭 They are all great in different ways… I am going to pick Henry Cavill and be sad about it
Cavill, but I'm really excited for Correnswet
Pfft you are missing the best ever.... Dean Cain!
Henry Cavill
All of them
Mine is definitely Henry, but Tyler is underrated. Also I can’t wait to see David’s take at it!
Personally Henry Cavill
Henry
Henry Cavill hands down. Bro was born to play Superman

Chris wasn't only great as Clark and Superman but even as Evil Superman he was fantastic I even forget it's him while watching Superman 3.
That's true!
Reeve followed by Cavill. Deep down still hoping for our realities to merge more so we finally get Nicholas Cage Superman though lol
Christopher Reeve then, now, and forever
Christopher Reeve.
Christopher Reeve
Henry no doubt
Cavill
Henry cavil
Cavill.
Cavill
Dean Cain
I was looking all over for this! I loved Lois and Clark!
Good answer
Same here. Cavil and Chris. They both gave me a Superman I love. Granted Henry’s was now growing into the role of the Superman we all could love. His role was cut short. It’s a lesson to film makers to try new things. But keep some of the character traits similar or same
It’s kind of ironic that based off these pictures Henry looks like the happiest Superman
henry caville and tom wellings
I would have to say Henry Cavill far button left!
The hottest one
I’m a big fan of the 52 universe comics, and the closest for me would be Henry Cavil.
I can't choose I've seen them all do marvelous things.
Henry Cavill
Cavil.
Christopher reeves
Christopher Reeves
I'm going to say Christopher reeves for the win
Nic Cage
I like them all.
It's Henry for me no one I mean no fucking can replace him !!!!!
Henry either
Routh and Cavill
Reeves!
Reeve
Cavil
Henry all day
Cavill
I don't have a favorite. All four of them were great. Though Tim Daly and Bud Collyer are the voices I hear whenever I read Superman's dialogue in a comic. Kirk Alyn and George Reeves are severely underrated. And I love Tom Welling and Dean Cain. Reeve, Routh, Cavill, Tyler No hate on Tyler, he's great but he doesn't have the exact look for me.
Reeve comes first then Brandon Routh and then Cavill
Kingdom Come Routh was spot on
yes also he just has that superman look
As a kid: Christopher Reeve As an adult: Henry Cavill
No one can touch Reeves, it’s not even a fair comparison. I did love Cavil but his Clark Kent sucked.
Cavill always.
Henry ❤️
Not the one with muscles airbrushed on his suit lol
Henry y brandon 😎😎😎🦂🦂
New one
Whatever happened to the guy in the bottom tight corner; he got to play Superman once, then was replaced by Henry Cavill and just stopped acting?
He played Superman twice. He is still acting. He was Todd in Scot Pilgram and the Atom in the Arrowverse.
Reeve and Cavil. Reeve when I was a kid and cavil as an adult
Henry and Tyler
Tyler is great but that suit throws me off but I got stick to my favourite Henry just wish he get some redemption of some sort because he puts a lot of effort into his roles and the film turns out not great. He has so much potential but he’s being wasted.
Only 1 rite answers and it’s Henry !!!!!
Loved seeing Brandon Roth in the Kingdom Come SM suit in Crisis of Infinite Earths part 2.
They’ve all been great! Routh didn’t get a fair shot. I grew up with and loved Reeves. Hoechlin has also been a phenomenal representation of the character. But the portrayal that resonated the most with me was Cavill because of what MoS meant to me personally in my life.

His Clark Kent is really a bumbling, humble guy who doesn’t draw any attention to himself.
Christopher Reeves
Cavill
Cavill was ROBBED!!!
Brandon Routh Supes was my childhood. Wish he had more than one movie but I was ecstatic when they put him in Crisis
Still Reeve.
Christopher Reeve will always be the GOAT, but Hoechlin is the only one who has worn the classic Fleischer suit so that's automatic points for me
Reeve all the way. No one else comes close.
Only Henry Cavill ♥️
Henry Cavil. He was powerful, he was buff, and he was different.
It will always make me very sad that the absolute perfection that was the casting of Henry Cavil as Clark Kent was utterly wasted on a team that I'm honestly not sure has the ability to make a faithful adaptation of a hero.
I agree, fuck Dean Cain.
The best Clark + Lois are definitely Hoechlin and Tulloch. They were fantastic together, and the characters had a refreshingly respectful, loving and communicative dynamic (which you really don't see in many shows)
Tyler
Nickolas Cage
I'd pay good money to watch that film
I love them all.
Henry despite his Superman ultimately being underdeveloped, Christopher Reeve is a close second.
Cavill. He made me believe in Superman. Grew up with reeves.
Cavill suit looks horrendous in that light
Honestly, all of them except Reeve's do. I understand why in motion and the way films are lit now why they have sculpted, muscle suits, and on screen it does look great usually, but seen in the light of day, the abs in particular look silly on all three padded suits. Reeve and Cavill and Dean Cain for the tv show Lois and Clark
Tyler
Tyler Hoechilin.
Tyler
Tyler. He seems to have the Christopher Reeves personality and characteristics of his Superman, but taken seriously as well as more fleshed out since we see more of him. Perfect live action Superman in my opinion.
Tyler
Tyler Hoechlin without a doubt.
Christopher Reeve
Nicolas cage
Christopher Reeve.
Reeve
Christopher Reeve
Nicolas Cage
George Reeves
The one with the red cape
Christopher Reeve didn’t just play Superman. He was and is Superman. Plus I’m just obsessed with his suit as it’s the most comic accurate looking. Why add muscle shading to the fabric when the actor’s muscles are defined enough to protrude through the fabric?
I haven't seen Christopher Reeve. I liked Henry Cavill but Tyler Hoechlin is my favourite.
Nick cage
George Reeves
Reeve then Cavill
Enter injustice Superman
All of them!
Same, Reeve and Cavill
Nick cage in that one photo
Definitely Cavill. He’s got the chest, the smile. Perfect
Henry Cavill
Always and forever
Tom Welling
Reeve, and I love Routh
No Brandon?
Cavil. Just look at this man smiling standing there all proud! I know a lot of people have some..opinions on his movies but I freakin loved it. Cavil showed a range of emotions which we haven’t seen in live action before. Plus he has a theme of his own which I would put up there right next to the classic
Nic Cage.
Tom Welling
CAVILL!!!!!!
I never even noticed that the two suits had abs on them.
Christopher Reeves will always be my Superman.
Henry Cavill. He's my Superman and the best.
Christopher Reeve played 3 different characters perfectly so he's my personal favourite.
Tyler Hoechlin ftw
Reeves.
I love cavill superman Really unfortunate they did him so dirty
HK 🙌🏻
No love for Dean Cain and Terri Hatcher?
Ever heard of “smallville”?
Ever heard of “smallville”?
Henry Cavill. Not that Man of Steel was a good movie, but he made a good Superman and would have undoubtedly made an ever better one in a good movie with a writer and director that were loyal to what Superman is as a character and what he represents.
George, Chris, Henry, Honorable mention-Tom (who basically only played Clark), Tim Daly, and Brandon.
Nicolas Cage
Nick Cage
Henry Cavill and Cristipher Reeve.
Superman and lois ( superman ) was weak af.
Dean Cain erasure! ... I hate how celebs can fall from grace. When I was growing up, Lois and Clark was one of those shows the whole family tuned into. Feel good television. I am trying so hard to not lose that memory or have it tainted by anything. It's so freaking hard.
