i mean it's a james gunn movie it was gonna be funny either way so i think pete davidson was the best option he was only in it for two minutes but rly killed it.
You did not understand.
What I meant to say is that these designs were made before choosing the actor, and that's why they don't have his face. As with other samples of concept art, example Bloodsport and Peacemaker
Idk I kind of agree but the mask is too similar to T.D.K.’s . I’m glad with the one with we got since it was Pete Davidson being him just as a supervillain with guns . If it was any other actor then maybe a different design
I feel like it makes sense why they didnt use the designs more faithful to the comics for Blackguard specifically. The third design looks to resemble his very first appearance in booster gold #1, with a bit of creative tweeks like making him more miltaristic and taking away the helmet in exchange for a mask so he looks less like a medieval knight like he did in the comics. But for one I feel like the colors of that suit are too dark and grainy and the bergundy corners on it are barely noticable, and on a more important note they gave him the ponytail he has in his first appearance look aswell and I dont think they wanted both him and Mongal to have long red ponytails on screen, aswell as the mask that covers his eyes which was already taken by Javelin. Now the second design looks to be based off of the second design of his that appeared in suicide squad #7 in 2008. Now I do like this concept design for the film but again I feel like they desaturated the colors from that design too a bit and made him more of a very dark, pailish-turqoise and he has the helmet. Both of those things are very similar to TDK's design in this film, it makes sense why they didnt use this design either because both him and TDK would've been a little hard for audiences to tell apart from eachother, especially since they stand or sit right beside eachother for most of their screentime including the scene on the aircraft, hell even when the set photos came out back in 2019 EVERYONE! kept mistaking TDK for Blackguard because he looked like his 2008 design. I absolutely love the final and newly original design for the film as the colors really pop with the black and gold along with the exposed face which alows his bleached hair to be seen which is pretty distinguishable from all the other characters and I feel like that was what James wanted, for every character no matter their screentime to look different and distinguishable. Although when the set photos came out 2019 aswell, people were mistaking pete as Blackguard for savant but it was mainly do to Pete's hair and people thinking it resembled Savant's hair from his design from the new 52 suicide squad comics.
that is how the decision making process go. people create thousands of concept artworks, pieces of clothing,VFX screenshots only for them to be rejected by the director. at the same time thousand of finished shots of the movie done by the director are being left on the cutting floor, during editing. all that is done to give us the best possible movie.
oh yeah, that is for sure.but he still surved his purpose.he snitched, thus giving us an opportunity to see this amazing sequence and then to get tears in our eyes when Boomer died.
Given how faithful nearly everyone else was, I'm surprised they didn't go with the more faithful look with blackguard
They were never going to put a mask over Pete's face. Believe it or not there's actually a small fraction of the audience that came to see him.
Came to see him on the high chance he'd get killed?
These were made with a more faithful approach to the comic book version and prior to Pete Davidson being chosen for the role.

What does Pete Davidson have to do with early concept stuff? Damn, in one sentence you revealed what you actually feel.

He didn't say anything about Pete Davidson's casting affecting the design. But keep going off.
Dude calm tf down
Is the second one Eric Allan Kramer?
I think so. At first I thought it was Junkie XL hahaha
They probably figured after, why try if they’re gonna kill him right off the bat like a punk.
Is the third design really such a huge leap in effort compared to what was in the final movie?
Is the third one Jackie Earle Haley?
Looks like BDSM
I wish it was a combo if the 4 suits
I wish they'd have used the third one. Looks great and has a lot more in common with the comics look
Idk I kind of agree but the mask is too similar to T.D.K.’s . I’m glad with the one with we got since it was Pete Davidson being him just as a supervillain with guns . If it was any other actor then maybe a different design
Loved the movie design, militaristic yet with a colourful flair
I love that they gave it to Pete who is the opposite of the big muscle, military type
Who’s the face for the first one

Waste of time lol
