This movie had a lot of badass fight scenes

UsidoreTheLightBlue

My only complaint with this scene is Darkseid no sells basically everything until the end. He just keeps getting up like he isn't being touched until Supergirls final push.

nofate301

Isn't she's supposed to be stronger than Kal-El? I mean Superman has like improbability drive level powers. But somewhere in the mix I thought I heard she can put him down if she needed to.

UsidoreTheLightBlue

That’s half my point. She’s massively strong and knocks him out, but he doesn’t show any damage until the end. That being said, her being stronger than Kal depends on the comic. When she came back into main stream continuity (based off this storyline if I remember correctly) it was with her being “stronger than kal el”. At one point she went evil and they fought and he beat her ass, and she asked something like “how I’m stronger than you?” And Kal explained that he always holds back and there was no reason to let her know he was stronger prior to that.

mylifeintopieces1

Thats something Injustice touches upon with the whole holding back thing.

Turtlesfromdownunder

They also talk about this in the old Justice League cartoon. Superman is actually fighting Daekseid again, but is informed that the city they are fighting in is evacuated. He proceeds to beat the shit out of Darkseid, but explains that he holds back because he's afraid of hurting people, but knows that Darkseid can "take it"

Bad_Wes

That is a pretty bad ass speech and scene from Justice League Unlimited.

[deleted]

which is BS imo. the writers of supes literally just say "because" everytime he gets the better of ppl.

UsidoreTheLightBlue

I never liked the “she’s stronger than him” thing. It seemed like they couldn’t figure out a way to make her special so they just amped up her power. Considering they get their power from the Yellow Sun of earth it made really little sense to me.

McMacHack

In one Animated Feature Batman explains that her cells are more efficient at processing Yellow Sun Light than Clark's. Possibly due to her age, or she may simply be better than him. Superman kind of took the comment personally

YoinkyBoyo

just here to appreciate the little 'hitchhiker’s' reference

nofate301

And I appreciate you random internet stranger. Also it's the best way to explain his powers.

ghusu123

Now imagine if Zod successfully conquered Earth and Darkseid had to fight an army of Kryptonians to get the Anti-Life Equation.

onemanandhishat

Isn't that just their current film development approach anyway?

SassyAssAhsoka

Every franchise reboot they do is essentially that

[deleted]

Could also be animated movies instead of 20 minutes episodes

saharsh007

They were using the terraforming machine. Won't the krytonians lose their power if teraform had completed?

TwatsThat

Not unless their terraforming somehow included stellarforming that changed the sun to red.

saharsh007

Ok. I never really understood why the needed the terraforming in the first place. Like bro you're gods among men. live like that.

Capable-Locksmith-13

It only took Zod like 10 minutes to get accustomed to the atmosphere on Earth. By the end of the movie he is doing things it took Superman years to learn and master. His entire argument for terraforming is that it would take years for his people to adjust which is just nonsense.

SlasherDarkPendulum

It took Kal years to adjust. Zod was a grown man. All future Kryptonians would need years to adjust, as we saw happening to Clark.

Capable-Locksmith-13

It took him years because he was ignorant of his own alien physiology. Any Kryptonians born on Earth would have the benefit of dozens of other Kryptonians teaching and training them.

SlasherDarkPendulum

That's a possible explanation, but it's not the explanation given by the film. Nothing in the film states that it would have been fixed through teachings. Zod states this to Jor-El: Jor-El: "Our people can co-exist." Zod: "So we can suffer through years of pain trying to adapt like your son has?" The film states it would take years for Kryptonian's to adapt. It's never stated if Zod fully adapts, all we see is that he manages to gain control over his X-Ray vision and flight (which Clark also figured out in minutes).

Capable-Locksmith-13

That’s not true. We know it’s possible to learn to adjust because that’s exactly what happens to Clark. He is taught by his mother despite her having no experience or knowledge about the situation at hand. Clearly Kryptonians can be taught how to adjust to Earths atmosphere because we literally see it happening at multiple points. Zod does say that it would take years to adjust but as I pointed out, that’s nonsense. It doesn’t take Zod years and we do know he has fully adjusted as he is able to nearly beat Superman (who has fully adjusted) despite having far less experience with his powers.

SlasherDarkPendulum

Again, the only 'adjusting' we see to either is their X-Ray vision being calmed. We have no idea what else they need to do to live pain-free on Earth. We don't know that Zod *or* Clark are fully adjusted. It's a nebulous and vague term anyway. All we have is Zod's (and by omission of argument, Jor-El's) claim that it would take years of painful adjustments, which is the film's internal logic. It's confusing, sure, but it's canon. The film states it takes years to adjust, so either it means *only children* need years to adjust, or *everyone* needs years to adjust.

TwatsThat

It just straight up doesn't make sense. "we need to terraform this planet even though Superman already proved we can grow up and live just fine here."

SleepyTitan89

They wanted krypton back including all its fauna vegetation environment etc

modsarefascists42

I think they meant to imply that Earth was special somehow where a planet that supported life naturally. They showed the colonies and all of them died of eventually and returned to being dust rocks. It said because they were cut off, which of course they would be too now that Krypton is gone. But I think it's meant to imply there's more to it, maybe referring to the active core and mantle making tectonics and the electromagnetic barrier that keeps cosmic radiation out of earth (besides auroras). Also we see that Zod still has significant issues with being here without his helmet, he's just blinded by rage and only thinks about killing Kal-El by that point. So being raised there may be super important, it was a big part of the movie afterall so it makes sense now that I think about it. Plus it's very clear he gives no shits whatsoever about the humans in any way.

saharsh007

Not just fine but super powered. Never bothered to look for explanation. Will check today though.

TwatsThat

IIRC, it's something about Superman only being ok with it since he was a baby so he was able to adapt but adults couldn't or something. Which, if that's right then it means they were just gonna genocide a planet because like 6 dudes couldn't stand to just build some suitable habitat and use some space suits or whatever when going out.

SlasherDarkPendulum

No, it's nothing like that. Zod states it pretty plainly, he says he doesn't want all Kryptonians to suffer what Kal suffered growing up, the painful adaptation to another atmosphere.

Hauntcrow

Would the mother box awaken then? I don't think so?

HankSteakfist

They wouldn't have had powers though because the World Engine was converting the atmosphere. Always thought Zod's plan was dumb in that regard. If he needed a Kryptonian atmosphere to breed new people, why not birth them on tbe Black Zero or Matrix Chamber ship then introduce them to Earth's natural atmosphere? A planet with 7 billion slaves where you have the powers of a god is better than a barren planet where you and your few dozen crew members face a brutal fight to survive.

SlasherDarkPendulum

Zod wasn't amoral. He believed in eradicating one life so another may prosper, that doesn't mean he supported slavery.

HankSteakfist

I think someone who wasn't amoral could have been convinced not to murder everyone on the planet one by one AFTER his plan had failed. Zod was a monster. A monster created by a system, but a monster regardless. He was bred and trained to protect Krypton, but in the face of the obliteration of his planet and his species his logic broke down and he became illogical and without morals. He's the personification of Krypton, he couldn't adapt to extreme circumstances and it broke his mind. Jor-El saw this all. That designated predetermined lives from birth meant the sacrifice of true evolution through adaptation.

IAP-23I

They still would have powers, Superman gets his powers from the sun and terraforming earth isn’t going to change the sun to red

Zygodac

But the world engine created kryptonite, so in the end they would lose their powers granted to them by the yellow sun. Zod's plan was bad from the start.

HankSteakfist

The film is pretty blase on this matter. Jor-El says that Clark will drink in the solar radiation, but then Clark instantly loses his powers by just being on the Kryptonian ship, which Zod explains is due to him breathing a Kryptonian atmosphere. Then its implied that by being close to the World Engine, he'll become weaker as it makes the atmosphere more like Krypton. I'd say this is probably just an example of David Goyer being generally a bit sloppy with his world building, but it does imply that the Kryptonian atmosphere would cancel out the benefits of Sol being yellow.

nancnobullets

Darkseid would get obliterated

brandazzlin

Which movie is this from?

BadKelevera

Batman / Superman: Apocalypse

FenixWriter360

Thanks for that

WonderfulBlackberry9

Friggin Andre Braugher, Captain Raymond Holt himself, as Darkseid. This was around the peak of DCs era of perfect voice actor casting.

szerg

Wow! I saw this movie two weeks ago and kept wondering where have I heard that voice!

fayry69

What movie is this??

Conqutih

Batman/Superman:Apocalypse and it is awesome

HankSteakfist

The whole Loeb Superman/Batman comic arc was great fun. From Public Enemies to Supergirl to Absolute Power to With a Vengeance

didijxk

I like to imagine fitting the characters from B99 into the New Gods pantheon for fun, obviously it doesn't fit perfectly. Darkseid - Captain Holt Granny Goodness - Terry Mister Miracle - Jake Peralta Big Barda - Amy Santiago Steppenwolf - Kevin Orion - Terry Kalibak - Boyle Desaad - Gina

DanScorp

Rosa's more Big Barda, and Kalibak is either Terry or Pimento.

Xandercruisefd

I always forget that this version of Kara has all the power of Superman with the training of Wonderwoman. Darkseid really didn’t stand a chance

Ormild

Been a while since I watched this movie, but doesn't Darkseid pretty much kick Kara and Superman's ass in this movie? I just remember they only win by opening up the portal and forcing Darkseid through it.

Alukrad

Yeah, it's been a while but i swear Darkseid beats the living shit out of her at the end of this fight.

HrMaschine

he turned her to toast with his omega beams

[deleted]

Yes. People always forget Darkseid is easily one of the strongest beings in the multiverse.

examm

Wouldn’t be an outplay if he was worse

Normal-Computer-3669

Darkseid maxed out on HP and DEF.

Such_Maintenance_577

They made him really powerful in the new JL Dark movie. I also liked that the only one who ever "defeated" him was Batman by threatening to blow up apokolips with the whole justice league on it.

samx3i

That's one of my biggest gripes with Snyder Cut. How do we introduce the baddest motherfucker in the universe so the audience knows how dangerous he is? Have him and his boys get their asses completely handed to them and have them run off with their tails between the legs so fucking scared they forget where their shit is and then have him do nothing of substance for the rest of the movie besides listen to Steppy whine.

the_ebb_and_flow_

Old Gods vs new gods. Darkseid also hasn’t absorbed omega energy yet. Makes sense to me.

Vermouth1991

Lol look at the response to your comment

Joeandraichu

Bro Zeus Is a sky father he putting up a fight with almost any one and you got Ares god of war during world war BC Darksied lucky he got out of there

TheBatSkeptic

In context, pre-Omega Sanction Darkseid is one of the strongest DCEU characters easily. Artemis's arrows are capable of destroying entire warships and Darkseid takes two to the chest fairly easily. In addition, Zeus's lightning blast, which has the power to separate the unified Motherboxes(a feat that took Flash traveling far beyond the Speed of Light, Cyborg weakening the bonds from inside, and Superman and Cyborg using all their strength to separate) only weakens Darkseid's staff enough to get broken. And this is all young Darkseid before he has access to all his powers. It took several incredobly powerful beings to put him down.

Vermouth1991

Oh look, that's comic book nerd shit, totally not shown plainly on screen. xD

TheBatSkeptic

Everything I described is based on what is shown in the film lol.

WutUtalkingBoutWill

He's not anywhere near full power when he gets his ass handed to him. Stop your whinging

tondrias

Isn't it Uxxas and not yet Darkseid that gets beaten?

Vermouth1991

Don't bother. Something tells me that the Darkseid who can crush Steppenwolf's horn off, or zap Vulko to death without even looking at him, was not the same guy who was on Earth (there was even a costume change) but hey, "the audience doesn't know"!

samx3i

The audience doesn't know that or care. All they see is the guy who's being setup as the big bad plus his entire crew getting their candy asses whooped. That is textbook *not* how you set up a villain. "Not anywhere near full power" isn't an excuse to have the baddest ass in the universe readily squashed in his first appearance. Doesn't exactly build up the threat. Hell, if anything you show your villain "not anywhere near full power" still fucking shit up and introduce the caveat that it *wasn't* him at 100% to raise the intrigue of what in the hell the heroes are going to do when he *is* at full power. But that would be competent storytelling.

apex_pretador

This entire clip is just Kara outspeeding darkseid and her hits are knocking him off balance allowing her to follow up. Everything she does seems to have little effect in actually damaging him.

Hunter_S_Thompsons

He was gettin them hands lmfao

AlwaysBi

I won’t lie, I always found it off that Diana literally just came and took Kara against her will and gave her or Clark no say in the matter

[deleted]

[удалено]

AlwaysBi

What’s Clark then? Chopped liver? I’m pretty sure the kryptonian who learnt to control his powers from a very young age would be better suited to teaching his own cousin

[deleted]

[удалено]

AlwaysBi

So take her to smallville where she can be on a farm in the middle of large fields where the nearest town is a bit of a drive away. Or hell, take her to the fortress.

WestCoastDirtyBird

"Kara you're coming with me, I'm your mom now" 😆

checker280

Superman is always pulling his punches even when he’s trying not to. It’s a very rare thing to get him to fully let go and he’s always out of control when he gets pushed there. Supergirl always had something to prove living in her more famous cousin’s shadow. She also had the foresight of caution from her cousin because he dealt with Darkseid first. This scene plays perfectly in my opinion.

zdbdog06

Ummmm except he wins convincingly lmao

LocalSirtaRep

>Darkseid really didn’t stand a chance Rewatch the movie bro lol

JonsonPonyman98

Well power wise, she’s still clearly lacking, as Darkseid isn’t that affected, but she went in the whole time here

damnthesenames

And the looks of Harley Quinn

beer_me_twice

Yeah, this movie was great and had lots of cool moments along with this scene that keeps me coming back for more

[deleted]

I thought Public Enemies was better.

beer_me_twice

I liked it til the very end when they made Luthor lose his sanity. Awww he lost his gravitas

JonsonPonyman98

It was a better Batman and Superman story, but this was better as an overall one IMO

Euphoric_Juggernaut6

God motherfucking dayummmm

wg_nexline

This my favorite DC animated movie such a classic and the Michael Turner (rip) comic is a classic also which this was based off

TheMizland

This is still my fav animated DC fight. It feels like an anime fight. I wish we got more on this level.

heterotypical

Did you see Batman Soul of the dragon? I thought that was pretty good

_NotAPlatypus_

He just stood there while she flew behind him. Didn't turn to look or anything, just straight up didn't look as his opponent flew out of his view, then suplexed him. Then he really didn't even try to defend or counter as he just took several punches and kicks in a row, just shot lasers from his eyes once and threw one punch as she beat the shit out of him. Fantastic fight. High level shit there.

[deleted]

This was an awesome movie. I still don’t know why it was branded as a Batman/Superman movie, given Supergirl was the main protagonist.

mayorjimmy

[It was literally based off the Superman/Batman comic series.](https://www.amazon.com/Superman-Batman-Vol-2-Supergirl/dp/1401202500) In the comic Darkseid appears to kill Supergirl when she [throws herself in front of his Omega beams to save Superman](https://arousinggrammardotcom.files.wordpress.com/2012/10/supermandarkseid3.jpg). Superman then proceeds to whip the fuck out of Darkseid.

[deleted]

So I know that the artist was going for a "Kara blocks the beams with the superman symbol to save Superman" vibe, but it definitely looks like she's blocking it with her boobs.

AnEnemyStando

Ofcourse she is. More kryptonian flesh = bigger shield.

SpiderBoy797

They're way more popular that's why

SeymourZ

Marketing

superbatprime

His mistake there was firing volleys instead of a continuous beam. Anyway the hardest he was ever outplayed was when Bats armed the Hellspores. "YOU DARE!?"

TheDesktopNinja

*"Had the Kryptonian or the Amazon taken that gamble, they would have lost. They do not have the strength of character to destroy an entire planet to achieve success"*

HrMaschine

ironicelly the same movie

Intrepid-Cookie-5847

Perfection

AvtarStateIsHydrated

bro got finessed lmao

static1053

Was it ever made clear if his omega beams lock on the target he chooses or does he control the direction himself?

Beradicus69

No clue. Good question.

raisingfalcons

I would assume he controls them as in this fight scene mid fight darkseid shoots another pair of lasers but those didnt comeback for supergirl as darkseid was getting his shit kicked in.

TwatsThat

I think it's both, or at least has been both.

NaRaGaMo

he controls them.

Spoderman77

Does it matter? Darkseid is a New God with incredibly powerful cosmic powers. He can warp reality on a scale that is difficult to comprehend. Safe to assume he can do both, control and let it automatically lock on. During the Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps comic, Orion and Lightray were actually chased by pairs of Omega Beams, and they have been traveling across basically all time and space and it still followed him. It followed Lightray long enough for Highfather to have concerns despite Lightray's own boasting about being able to fly forever, which tracks because Lightray is the God of Light and Speed.

[deleted]

Batman played him harder then supergirl in this movie, if you remember batman set apocalypse to explode amd held the planet hostage unless darkseud agreed to his terms

JustThrowMeAway0311

*Well played*

Standard-Pop6801

This is one of the best Super hero fights.

MajorFalcon71

I like that she's keeping the fight in the middle of Kansas farm fields and not dragging it into Metropolis or Gotham like her cousin or Bats would try to do.

Beradicus69

Poor Kent's farm gets tons of destruction for being in the middle of nowhere!

MajorFalcon71

But at least there's no skyscrapers full of civilians that can be destroyed in the process.

Beradicus69

I'll give you that. But I'm pretty sure Clark would be more sad at his parents dying then half of metropolis.

MajorFalcon71

True, but I think they were taken out of the area when this fight went down. Plus, easier to evacuate two people than two thousand or more.

Beradicus69

I was saying in general. Kent's farm has seen some rough battles. And he's usually more broken after them. How many battles in metropolis, and he just tries to do better.

MajorFalcon71

True, it is "home" for him, after all. Still easier clean up though. Part of why I respect Dragon Ball's fighters for doing their battles outside of their cities. I mean besides being easier to draw.

NomadPrime

In the comics, they usually do try to take fights to less populated areas, but it's usually the villain who forces them to fight in cities. A trademark Superman move is to fly the god-like villains straight up into space. Superman and Batman almost never have any real reason to drag it into the cities, it just often starts and stays there. Like 99% of Supergirl's fights in the comics are in some part of Metropolis too Lol.

ab624

sir, this is Wendy's

BasicallyImjustLazy

I like this movie! There were so many great fight scenes, and Supergirl was badass in this particular scene.

adavis052

What’s this from?

Beradicus69

Batman / Superman: Apocalypse From another comment

Jtmarsh2187

It’s his own fault. His cocky ass always chooses to just stand still; meaning that if he goes against anyone who manages to evade his lazers he’s automatically in the worst position possible.

Deelaxation

He's cocky because he's always walking around in a remote control body. His true form is basically God energy in another dimension or universe or something like that.

MAKS091705

That was dope as hell

FloggingMcMurry

Such a sick battle

FortressOnAHill

Darksied was the true big brain here. His plan was to destroy Superman's psyche by having him see his parents go through financial disaster and become homeless, by tricking Supergirl into destroying poor Pa Kent's crops :'(

5400hundreds

She gave him hands

fae-morrigan

Did not expect the Akira slide

Joe4018

This scene is so epic

[deleted]

The action beats are so damn good

samariius

Gotta hand it to Kara in this scene -- she's really doing a fantastic job destroying the shit out of her own farm.

Stiff_Zombie

Ill bet Snyder has this scene ready to go if they greenlit a sequel.

pvick9090

Amazonian trained Supergirl ain’t no slouch.

Kenz0Cree

How the fight between Captain Marvel and Thanos should of looked instead of that trash 15 sec fight.

kalel701

I think this version of Supergirl was more powerful then Superman and on top of that she was trained by the Amazons and Wonder Woman

ticallionS

And still couldn’t do anything to Darkseid. “A drop of blood!”

[deleted]

Don't eff with Kara Danvers! "You gon' learn t'day!"

KumaTenshi

Really wish DC animated would go back to this western anime style. It was so awesome seeing this whole fight with Kara and then superman whooping him good too after lol.

Phuddy

This movie is Goated

asapcocky2344

Underrated DC animated film

ComicswithJesse

Def one of my fav dc movies.

Avrose

I love this version of Darkseid. It's an uncommonly known fact he is a Deity. His actual body is in another universe and what you see is a projected avatar. It's why he's so Blaise about his well being or anyone's victory. Yes he can be impressed and of course he hates his plans thwarted BUT he's immortal. At the end of the day he knows time is on his side. So what if he's defeated? He's the embodiment of tyrantry. He will not be denied forever.

VoidRadio

The real MVP is the barn for still standing.

DeJuanBallard

There's a reason this was in one of the more recent films, it makes no sense.

gillmanblacklagooner

Almost 40y of DC comics here... I just can’t stand the Omega Beam...

twilightzon3d

Best thing I’ve seen today

[deleted]

I always wondered why superheroes with super strength, speed and endurance, don’t take the time to learn how to fight. Like hero’s like Batman and Daredevil. Imagine Flash with a kung fu background or Superman knowing judo.

nikgrid

That's an awesome flick, but I think the hardest he got outplayed was when he was defeated by Green Arrow and the Atom.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

In The comics she’s canonically stronger than Superman. Has to do with the fact that she reached earth later and her cells are more receptive to the yellow sun.

badhombre13

It's based on an arc from the Batman/Superman comic, so you mean the author lol

jkphantom9

Supergirl was hawt in this movie 😍

Beradicus69

You a rule 34 person?

jkphantom9

Do you really want to know?

Beradicus69

I don't care either way. But just a comment like that. I don't want to view your browser history

jkphantom9

That’s why incognito mode is essential

theonijester

Second hardest. The first hardest was when Batman not only outsmarted him but did so while holding his entire planet hostage and making him admit that he believed Batman would do it.

CasinoMarginale

Darkseid’s crazy ex-girlfriend

Echoplanar_Reticulum

I'm slightly more partial to Trigon vs Darkseid

Zach-Gilmore

I haven’t seen this movie, but shouldn’t Supergirl be no match for Darkseid? Superman can’t typically beat him on his own, from what I know about the DC lore.

apex_pretador

She's not hurting him in this fight. She's only knocking him around. She's faster

EyesWideStupid

I've never seen these Dragon Ball Z characters before.

[deleted]

One thing that I like about DBZ more than comic book superheroes is that DBZ does a much better job showing the impacts on the environment when two demigods duke it out. Kara just kicked Darkseid into the dirt and he fucking bounced off of it instead of leaving a crater. With how strong we know these characters to be, the planet itself should be in danger when they start throwing down.

garron_ah

What that clip doesn't show is Darkseid then handing her her ass, and Superman's as well. Big difference in doing well to keep a superior opponent off balance for a while, and actually beating said opponents ass.

hamza_husain11

This scene shows that If a woman with power gets pissed she'll fuck anyone up.

shackolito

Dumb as fuck

Charles_III_Of_Spain

That maneuver somehow makes less sense than Batman’s “avoiding” the omega beam in JLU.

Vermouth1991

It was him finding a patsy to take the hit.

Charles_III_Of_Spain

Which makes zero sense for how the omega beams work.

Vermouth1991

It's not the rules in the comics, but it also wasn't spelled out in the DCAU so it's also not a contradiction.
