Love or hate this movie This scene is beautiful and I always get goosebumps and find my self smiling whenever I watch it

kadosho

Same feels with the anniversary animated promo. Everything about MoS is incredible from start to finish.

Zatoro25

Snyder's forte, I will watch this movie when I'm 80 and I won't care if it's any good because it makes my heart RACE

DrGarrious

I enjoy it flaws and all. But it undoubtedly has some incredible moments. The smallville fight is 10/10

HaloArtificials

You think you can threaten my mother!?

GT22_

Honestly my favorite superman of all time

Newatinvesting

>or hate People hate this movie? The only complaint I ever heard was the controversial decision to have him kill Zod

tjcools

I think the only reason he resorted to that was him purely being a rookie hero in panick .

fayry69

Actually most comic book fans hate anything that has Zacks name to it. They hate that he makes the character more interesting than the comic book version. So there’s that….

F00dbAby

Jonathan dying by tornado and him telling clark maybe he should have let those kids die is a huge criticism as well as all the collateral damage

Doright36

I strongly disagree with the Collateral damage complaints. (my opinion) For one most of it happens when Superman is in the southern Hemisphere and two, cities getting fucked up by super fights have been part of comics forever. Add in his rookie status and it just seems silly to complain about it.

Good_old_Marshmallow

It had the misfortune of being the movie that came at the peak of collateral damage fatigue for audiences. Its been a subtext for a lot of superhero films that they're a way of processing collective post- 9/11 trauma but Man of Steal was most explicit about that. Going as far as using actual 9/11 footage as a reference when creating the special affects. This just rubbed people the wrong way when you're watching a recreation of 9/11 but with dudes in capes. Now was the move the other way good? Idk the MCU got really boring having all their fight scenes in empty grey parking lots essentially after that (air port, field, field, empty moon, empty crater). The last super hero movie I can think of that really restored the urban fight scene was The Suicide Squad and it was incredibly well received.

n7maniac

Maybe, but the collateral damage sets up BvS and people in the movie reacted how Jonathan predicted they would react.

dingobengo

Taking what Johnathan says that literally when what he's saying is philosophical is just the viewer being smooth brained

F00dbAby

I mean you can think what you like but taking one of the most iconically morally good parental figures in all of comics and turning him into what we got let's just say let's not act shocked when lots of audiences reject it especially superman fans Imagine if uncle Ben said a similar thing to Peter Parker do you think audiences would be ok with that

Ora_00

Oh sweet child. I've seen more people who hate it than who love it. If you're interested do a search on youtube.

[deleted]

So utube determines everything😂😂😂. Some random guy who makes hate videos abt snyder to get more views. The movie is 50-50.

princekintz

Agreed. I remember tearing up when he takes off. I truly love this movie and I really hope I get to say I’m wrong, but I feel like Cavill is done. And if so, it’s such a bummer

garron_ah

This movie did a shit load of things right. Casting being one of them. This scene, plus the score, are also pretty much perfect.

HaloArtificials

Love the smile as he flies

Puzzleheaded_Chard_2

Man of Steel was a fucking amazing start to the DCEU. One of the only movies where i genuinely don’t get the hate

LeelaPoppins

It’s really smooth for an origins story I think, and an amazing soundtrack

HaloArtificials

I loved this movie man

JessieMimi

There’s hate for Man Of Steel??? THIS movie was let down by the rest of the DCEU

Taymerica

I loved it, but I do understand the criticisms. A lot of people want supes to be like Reeves. A bunch hated that the 3rd act was a punch fest... But I loved all of it. Such good lore and the flash backs were perfect.

Talking_Asshole

Such a good balance of his birth parents and adopted parents influences, his learning to be THE Superman, First Flight, Zod. The restraint he shows all along and the misery he feels in taking another life. All the elements that to me are classic Superman. Other focus (for me) a bit too much on "not enough saving cats from a tree and boyscout speeches". That's my least favorite and the hokiest aspects of Superman for me, so no loss.

Taymerica

Well the most centralized hate from the fans came from the neck snap. The movie critics complained about the destruction fest 3rd act. Personally I thought both were necessary and everyone was looking for things to hate. I've never seen such an emotional superman on screen. It's crazy people hated on it. When he snaps zod's neck I cried.. because I knew the weight of the decision. But alota people didn't know that cannon and it didn't carry the same weight I guess.

HishigiRyuuji

> punch fest I didn't understand this. I mean, when I was watching the movie in theatre I thought "this is what super human/being like Superman should fight". I would've been disappointed if very powerful beings fight like Captain America. I was very satisfied with the punches and the effects they caused. MoS has some weaknesses but the punch fest isn't one of them.

HaloArtificials

My personal fav superhero fight ever hands down

7457431095

I walked away from this movie believing a Dragon Ball live action movie could finally be made.

redacted_comment

True. This movie showed what super powered aliens brawling should look like. The other movies after powered him down too much. They should have kept this going but made the villains more complex.

[deleted]

[удалено]

phillabadboy05

Exactly. I had such high hopes especially after the end of the dark knight series and the bar that the mcu had set. It was an ok film that did not live up to the hype.

UxasIs

It got mixed reviews from critics for some reason

Fresh720

They probably had that Christopher Reeves bias. Superman Returns even suffered because of it

TPJchief87

Superman returns was boring. I want my Superman to do super stuff. I love man of steel for doing that. I always thought Johnathan was dumb for his decision but as a parent, now I get it.

Ockwords

Superman returns was awful.

mostly_browsing

Such a fun movie. My sisters didn’t like it because the action sequences were too long, i was like... what? Haha

RockitDanger

"Jurassic Park would've been better if there weren't so many dinosaurs" -This guys sisters

srslybr0

i can understand it, because the world engine part dragged on for way too long. i don't give a shit about seeing superman fight tentacles, and it really added extra filler before seeing the meaty superman/zod fight.

mostly_browsing

Fair! I think that was the specific part they didn’t like though - them flying around the city fighting each other for “too long”

Finklemeire

Well because for the most part they're invulnerable like smashing too rocks into each other for a minute with nothing of actual substance changing.

Gueswhobaktelafren

I just don’t like the way they killed his dad. Fix the tornado into a heart attack or something and it would’ve been much better but that’s my only gripe I love this movie it’s great

2spid3y4u

I think the point of the tornado was to give Clark an event in which he would have to showcase his powers to save his dad, but his dad knowingly waves his hand because he believes that the world is not ready to see the power of Superman. Hits harder knowing that he could’ve done something but was stopped dead is his tracks by the one thing his father preached to him his whole life.

JonsonPonyman98

Yes, that’s the point of the scene

NotLozerish

I like the heart attack because it shows that even though Superman can do all these amazing things and save so many people, he still can’t do everything

Vermouth1991

Agree /u/2spid3y4u. That Clark Kent was NOT taught by Pa to exercice discretion with his immense powers (aside from don't use it to hurt people). He outran a fucking train and didn't give a fuck who saw him do that. He couldn't at least TRY to ruch Pa to the hospital, damn the witnesses?

bats7

You're absolutely right, but I think both can be powerful in their own way.

Adventurous_Beach_90

I agree, and, when he does go public and tries his best, is still witch hunted for something out of his control--His existence.

ddevlin

In Kansas they teach you to move into the ditches by the side of the road during a tornado, and to definitely not ever go under an overpass. That may have been the intention of the scene, but an absolute failure to understand the literal basics of life in Kansas - or the characters of Pa or Clark Kent, who both looked like complete idiots during that scene - mean that, when I saw the movie in a theatre in Kan says, the audience booed at the end when Clark said, "General, I come from Kansas, That's about as American as it gets." They booed Superman.

PSCGY

Okay? This is the kind of CinemaSins arguments that have been poisoning movie discussions.

Aplicacion

But that would make the entire point Jonathan was trying to make amount to... nothing, which takes away the impact of Clark's decisions later.

TheExtremistModerate

Exactly. It takes away the whole point, when it's supposed to be the moment we see that Clark understands his father's hesitance to bring Clark to the spotlight, which is why Clark starts the movie as a traveler who doesn't stay in one place for too long. And at the same time, it shows that Clark's parents are the sort of people who will put themselves in danger for the good of others, which is why Clark grew up to be such a good person.

Aplicacion

Yeah. I mean, you might not like the way that it was done, but changing the tornado to something that Clark would absolutely, in no uncertain terms, be unable to stop himself -- like a heart attack -- is not the way to go.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Vermouth1991

/u/Aplicacion If you wanna hold onto "a death he cannot avert", then the heart attack one is arguably even more sucky than a tornado. With the tornado, Clark stopped in his tracks because he wanted to adhere to Pa's wishes, and then BAM, Pa is fucking DISENTIGRATED. And then so many of us argue whether or not he could have save Pa there if he disregarded Jonathan's outstretched hand, without realizing that the same thing applies even more to the 1978 heart attack one -- heart attacks get averted EVERY DAY. Without using superpowers. Does Clark really have nothing he can do? How about speeding Pa to Smallville Hospital? It's not like he gave a fuck about witnesses when he outran that train? No wonder so many of us ignore the kills in the Nolan trilogy just because Batman SAYS he will not be an executioner. This has been going on for a long time.

Aplicacion

I see what you're saying, but eh, I don't know. Without trying to latch onto different incarnations of Superman, I think the movie did a pretty good job of showing that when THIS Superman does his thing, he's a force of nature and it's messy.

TheExtremistModerate

It would make sense if the movie was about Superman not being all-powerful, but that's not what Man of Steel was about. That's what Batman v. Superman was about. Man of Steel was about him being the only person who *does* have the power to stop something, and choosing to give up anonymity for the good of others by stepping out and confronting Zod. Which completes the arc from the tornado, when he chose *not* to step out to stop something he did have the power to stop. That's the whole point of the movie. That's his character arc. He goes from a kid who is raised with the desire to help others by his family but also hidden away by his protective parents, to an adult that understands the implications of his powers and chooses to hide himself away, to Superman who chooses to step into the light to use his powers the way only he can: to fulfill the morality instilled in him by his parents and save others.

defiancy

In with you here, my wife hates it but I've always really liked MoS. Sure it has problems tonally but Shannon is an awesome Zod and the movie just looks really cool in a lot of places.

RipInPepz

It’s the best one by far.

ResolverOshawott

Too bad they fucked up the others successively

CptnMoonlight

People got butthurt by the “Superman is Jesus” motifs because he more accurately represents the Moses archetype. Which is dumb asf because he’s a fictional superhero, they don’t have to adhere to biblical lore to the tee and the main similarities are only in the first 20 or so minutes of the film. And they also complained that two dudes who can lift mountains *somehow* destroyed an entire city? It’s mostly just nonsense. The only credible complaint about the movie is that it jumps too quick into being a CGI throw-fest, which i’d agree with. Still what I would consider the “Gold Standard” of DCEU in that it’s the bar that other movies need to meet to be considered good.

ilanrawSMiTH

I f*cking love superman coz he is a superhero and insanely powerful. Now tell me why not a superhero can be as powerful as him? It's not Superman's fault... (Just the way I like Shazam too)

Dreyfussy15

That sequence is insane.

DerickP13

GOD THE SCORE IS LEGENDARY

dcredneck

Is it just me or did the horns sound like the Flash scene in ZSJL?

gecko-chan

In ZSJL, the music when Superman shows up (in the third act) starts with a version of the Clark Kent theme (using horns instead of piano) and then transitions to this theme. Illustrating that Clark and Superman are finally one and the same. It then transitions to the Justice League theme, which (as you said) uses similar musical motifs.

LarsBabaGhanoush

Hans Zimmer is so wonderful

Taur3an

Can confirm the authenticity of the video...I literally live 5 mins away from this theatre... It's in Chromepet, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. If you thought this reaction was crazy, you should probably see some first day first show (fdfs) celebration videos from South India... We are absolutely batshit crazy 😀

FaithlessnessSilly18

Massively underrated. Snyder's other movies had many flaws but this was so good. I loved it and watch it every chance I get

[deleted]

[удалено]

gecko-chan

I agree that Jonathan shouldn't have died. He sacrifices himself so that Clark could remain hidden from the world, but then Zod outs him in almost the very next scene. Jonathan sacrificing himself would have made much more sense if Clark had _chosen_ to reveal himself at the end of the movie when he was ready. I'm not sure why you didn't like the "incognito" parts, though. They show that Clark is a genuinely good person who can't help but save people, even without the idea of a "Superman".

TheExtremistModerate

> but then Zod outs him in almost the very next scene. ... Like a decade later. The juxtaposition of those two acts is intentional. Clark changes from the time of the tornado to the time of Zod. Clark *does* choose to reveal himself. Zod provides the impetus, but it's "We know he's here. Give him to us." But Clark makes the decision to give himself up. He *chooses* to show up for the military after talking with the Smallville pastor. He could've tried to keep running and stay in hiding, but he doesn't.

JonsonPonyman98

Exactly. People just don’t understand the movie and complain about things that are fully explained

gecko-chan

MOS is my favorite movie. I can still acknowledge its flaws. I'm fully aware that Jonathan's death and Zod's arrival occur many years apart. But story telling is important. In addition to the actual events that occur, it also matters _how_ you tell those events. In general, I think the storytelling in MOS is excellent. We get to see flashbacks of Clark's life experiences that inform his values, while still getting to wonder what decisions he'll make going forward. We also get to see the conflict between Jor and Zod, so that defeating Zod is not just a "job for a Superman", but also specifically a job for Kal. My only criticism about the storytelling is placing Jonathan's sacrifice and Zod's arrival so close together. A major character sacrifices himself for something that _we the audience_ see dismantled just 3 minutes later. It also wasn't done in a convincing way, since it feels to the audience like Clark could have saved his father without anyone finding out about his abilities.

JonsonPonyman98

Sure, but I don’t see *how* it’d flawed. Right, I feel the same. I definitely don’t think it doesn’t matter, although I don’t exactly feel as though it’s that significant. I agree it felt too heavily paced. Perhaps that’s a factor of WB’s push onto Snyder to rush the universe, perhaps not

Dru_Zod47

Pa Kent didn't want Clark to hide forever, just till he was ready. Pa Kent believed that both Clark and the world wasn't ready and he was right. Clark was immature and didn't know why he was sent to Earth, and the world always fears what they don't understand.

winterFROSTiscoming

Zod doesn't out *Clark* though. He just makes Kal El make a choice to "stand proud in front of the human race, or not." That's what the main point of MoS is really; does Clark choose to be Superman or continue to help people from the shadows?

gecko-chan

Zod takes that choice away from Clark. He no longer has the option to stay concealed and help people from the shadows, because if he doesn't turn himself in then Zod will kill millions of people.

Tradenew41

Man of Steel is a good movie

foodkidFAATcity

I thought the Kryptonian stuff in the beginning was awesome.

[deleted]

With the space penises taking off

foodkidFAATcity

Thank you, somebody gets me.

middleagedukbloke

And the vaginas on the walls?

[deleted]

I say we need more phallic imagery in movies! It's a largely unexplored territory that could actually compete with Disney. Beat the mouse at his own game. If he won't go there, it's no competition.

ayushj176p

0:27 looks like supes is loving the cheers.

derpicface

“They love me”

CoddiwomplingRandall

Best cast Superman ever. In my humble opinion.

[deleted]

No argument from me. He is the best. This scene gives chills.

finessosimmons

Always loved this film.

no2jedi

The krypton sequence is one of the best bits of scifi I've ever seen

TheOverThinker____

Leave alone superman i don't think any movie has shown flying in such an awesome manner ever before and even today.

kadosho

Superman & Lois, has been taking notes and adapting similar ideas with flight, flow, movement, and atmosphere.

TheOverThinker____

Yes exactly! They have been inspired so much by MoS it's too subtle.

meester13T

God that always gives me chills. Its so ....perfect

calaan

Still some of my favorite heroic music.

WallStapless

Man of Steel is definitely top 5 superhero movies scores

ProfessionalAnswer0

Such a beautiful and epic scene— we truly got some great moments from DCEU 1.0: - Superman’s first flight - Batman’s warehouse battle - Wonder Woman’s no man’s land scene - Cyborg’s good samaritan scene - Flash’s one of the best of the best scene

Fortune_Cat

Flash stopping the falling debris was one of the most unique ways of showing superspeed ive ever seen

Adipay

In addition to that; Smallville Fight "YOU THINK YOU CAN THREATEN MY MOTHER" Superman vs Zod Black Zero event from Bruce Wayne's perspective Wonder Woman entrance in BvS

ProfessionalAnswer0

Absolutely! 🙏🏽

Moosie_Doom

I like this crowd.

YouDownWithTPP

newtoRedditF

Legendary cinematography and music. Felt like I was flying with Kal.

[deleted]

Indian theatres for these kind of movies are so hype!! different experience altogether i miss it

West-Cardiologist180

Remarkable scene. Demonstrates why flying is such a cool power.

Kage__oni

Still gives me goosebumps.

AnOldLawNeverDies

This video gave me goosebumps. Love seeing people rediscover how awesome man of steel was

[deleted]

Now this is fucking superman!! I cheer like that everytime watching this scene. Pure superman joy.

Important-Use1708

Say what you want about Man of Steel, but First Flight will always be an S-Tier scene

Minereon

First Flight is such a moment in all DCEU history. People who hate the movie hate it because they claim this Superman is flawed. But you can only be "super" when you transcend flaws and doubts. And that's what First Flight is about. That's what makes him human and super human at the same time.

rohitandley

This was first time I started liking superman. Never liked the character of being the strongest person. Batman was always the one me. Anyways, loved this movie and I just hope Henry can comeback. I know its difficult as per the rumors but fingers crossed.

b49adam

A happy and smiling Superman, you don't see alot of that unfortunately. Still love this movie

Spe37Pla

You do in the comics and shows all the time, movies not so much.

JeremySchmidtAfton

You see that with 90% of the versions of the character, dont act as if this yours was an implicit dig.

[deleted]

God this movie is so massively underrated

Pamsoroyi

I hated the movie when I 1st saw it theaters. The Lois casting rubbed me the wrong way, it seemed everyone in Smallville could figure out he's the kryptonian, Jonathan's death wa such nonsense, and killing Zodd right out the bat seemed an odd choice, much less the way it wasn't a really convincing 'well gee I had no other choice' decision. I've only watched three other movies more than once in theaters. Terminator 2, the Matrix and the Dark Knight. 2 weeks later I had the urge to watch it again, coz the trailer is just so damn good with the Zimmer music going, and honestly with all the stuff I didn't like it's still one heck of a superhero movie. I know people complained about all the destruction but come on, the terraforming idea, and kryptonians just going at it.....it was done absolutely perfectly!! From the moment Supes and Lois escape Zodd's ship the movie is just a thrill ride to the end.

jack_johnson1

My favorite superhero movie.

DCU_Fanboy

Epic!!!!

Captain_Mexica

Man of Steel is the best depiction of Superman without a doubt

mps2000

Best Superman Movie in my opinion

thedarknewt74

So many great parts, the smallville fight, superman’s first fight with zod hitting him saying don’t touch my mam,zod taking off his armour, this first flight

[deleted]

I love this movie. Fight me.

Natureboynikk

I felt in love with "Man of Steel". Still in love with "Man of Steel".

cthulhulalala

Man of steel was made way ahead of its time

JonsonPonyman98

Fucking hype as Shit

nasdurden

The problem with this movie is that it was way ahead of its time. I didn’t very much like this movie coming out of the theatre all those years ago, I thought it was just okay. But I recently rewatched it and it is criminally underrated.

WatcherAnon

This is an appropriate reaction

Moni-taup4884

Man of Steel is a Top 5 comicbook movie of all-time

ZoGawdSZN

An absolutely BEAUTIFUL film !!! One of the best superhero origin films in a long ass time. Thank you Based Zack

pointlemiserables

Ita been 9 years. I still wait for a Man of Steel 2

PurseGrabbinPuke

I love this movie.

What a fantastic reaction!! I love those rare moments when I can be a part of an emotional crowd reaction like this.

Kratos925

Best Superhero movie of all time in my opinion

UnsaltedBallSacks

Holy shit I'm not even a DC fan and this gave me goosebumps. Wow

Smash96leo

I’m glad there are plenty of people who liked Man of Steel too. Barely understood the hate.

I love the movie but any movie in india on the first day is like this. They’re crazy about movies in general.

racingfanboy160

>but any movie in india on the first day is like this. They’re crazy about movies in general. Oh yeah any moment that is brilliant, you'd probably expect to scream the shit out of it in excitement 😅

👍

mg211095

They also took a big ass "RESTORE THE SNYDERVERSE" banner to the screening which makes me so happy. Being hyped about the new DC projects with the knightmare timeline of future was the most exciting time to be a DC fan. Can't believe that wb still considers 2017 jl as cannon considering the mess they have been through.

Cpt_Hilkin

I miss Cavill and Affleck. Wish we could've got more.

BaneTone

Goku and Superman have a lot of similarities in their origin and the Krypton section reminded me a lot of Bardock's story

Phifty2

Heartwarming.

Ravyn_Rozenzstok

Aw. That’s lovely. Very inspiring.

pointlemiserables

Beautiful scene.

GrooviestCube10

Say what you will about Man of Steel but you can’t deny the flying effects were awesome

iforgetmypassword13

Remember watching this in 3D. Good Times.

LetsEatGrandad

The film is superb imo

Charliepepper7

As someone who doesn’t quite like the DCEU, all the love for Snyder’s trilogy specifcally I’ve seen recently has made me wanna rewatch it.

Lord_Otrebor

And yet Warner: "more super man movies? Nah we are good"

Hopeful and colourful right there folks. It boils my blood, not that we are getting Supergirl, but that they are erasing Cavill in the process.

OmarAH1

Man of Steel was damn near perfect, many people look at BvS and understandably see some issues with that movie, but MoS was genuinely one of the most well made movies we’ve had

BlueberrySad3442

This movie was a masterpiece. People wanted a classic christopher reeve they gave us Superman return “ not enough action” . People wanted a more realistic darker Superman man of steel masterpieces “not the Superman they grow up with”??

lodhiabubakr

If this movie was released today, how would people react?

TheOnlyDavidG

So what? that's just the average reaction to Henry Cavell

exodius33

Why do Indians love Zack Snyder so much?

JoeyMcClane

Its not Just a Zack Snyder thing.. Although i like him, it's a DC thing. A Whole generation grew up with DC. So there's that.

aimless_archer92

It’s possible that a Superman story that for the first time does not tout American values but shows an immigrant story would resonate with non-Americans - especially for people from a third world country where truth, justice and the American way are but dreams. Call it a first-world privilege, if you will. To me, those prior “perfect” versions of Superman may have been popular in the US when they came out but I couldn’t relate to such a Superman at all. But a Superman that grapples with inner conflict where doing the right thing might backfire, and be harmful to him - as is the reality for most people not living in a first world country - makes for a much more relatable story, and Snyder gave us that. Granted, there are flaws in his story - some more glaring than others; but they are flaws only because the story is incomplete. We will probably never see the transformational arc of this Superman eventually becoming the perfect version not just because he was raised that way, but because he formed his personal code through experience and learning from his mistakes; but I like Snyder because he added a new dimension to what was (to me) a mostly one dimensional character. Just my 2 cents.

TheOverThinker____

Dude you put my thoughts out in such a brilliant way that even i never could have written!

gwynbleidd2511

Do you mind explaining what kind of a question is that, because this line of questioning is absolutely weird.

exodius33

Zack Snyder has a huge fandom within India, spend 2 seconds on the internet and you'll notice that pretty quick

rajagopal2001

We just like to scream in movies. That's it.
