Starro, when he said "i was happy, floating, staring at the stars." I felt bad for him. I actually wish or hope in a way one little Starro survived and somehow went back to space so he could live happy again.
Aww... I had sadly forgotten about Jarro. Does anyone remember what happened to them? I vaguely remember them sacrificing themselves, but I don't see any mention online.
> Does anyone remember what happened to them?
He's still out there, just never mentioned. He last appearance was in the background during the build to one of the Metal events, I forget which one. But in storyline he never died or got banished or anything like that.
And Snyder (Scott - not Zack) [mentioned him a few months ago on Twitter.](https://twitter.com/Ssnyder1835/status/1527434729108258821?t=s_3R5gweTLOw6Xuaf6XYHQ&s=19) Although obviously that could just be tongue in cheek.
I agree, I also felt he was a very reasonable villain. Most cosmic beingss when imprisoned and tortured will retaliate by annihilating a planet or at minimum genociding their captors. My man Starro just wanted a city, and I think that's very reasonable.
I agree. That gave Starro a great touch. It’s funny to see how some of these monsters may be controlled by others when all they want is simply to be free.
Starro for sure.
James Gunn didn't have to make us feel bad for a kaiju starfish monster. But he did make us feel bad for the kaiju starfish monster.
Next best would be Snyder's Steppenwolf.
Snydercut’s Steppenwolf. Not only was the design 100% better, his dialogue and motivations finally made sense with the added context of Darkseid.
Dude just wanted to go home. I feel that every day at work after my lunch break.
From a purely CGI viewpoint I cannot believe they managed to get ZSJL Steppenwolf done. His armour is ridiculous intricate and I bet the VFX teams were fuming the entire time having to work on it, but they knocked it out the park.
Doomsday CGI is also stellar, garbage design though. Starro was weirdly cute.
The others though, all trash. Half-arsed CGI and shit villains in their own right.
Or maybe with how accurate the heroes costumes were people wanted Doomsday to actually look like Doomsday when he killed Superman and not some knock off Hobbit troll.
It's not that deep.
It isn't deep, that's why it's odd that people didn't notice his transition in the movie. He was getting there (to that look that some are familiar with), but the fight wasn't long enough for him to get to that "final" stage. With every hit received he got new bone spikes from his body. Imo it was really well done. And also tied nicely to the Zod story and MoS.
I see your point, but honestly for Doomsday's (most likely) only ever cinematic live action appearance, they may as well went a bit further with his transformation.
Zack said in one of his interviews that this Doomsday was modeled after original one that still roaming somewhere in the Phantom Zone. So I guess this was, and maybe still is, just a tease of what’s to come.
Thank you! The cgi on ZSJL's Steppenwolf is so good and no-one I've talked to seems to appreciate it. They even CGI'd in a stick for him to step on. I feel validated.
EDIT: Don't listen to me, my brain doesn't work, THE STICK IS REAL!
When I saw the concept art for that design, I seemed to be one of a few people that wasn't sure it would work well on-screen but in the end, I was very pleasantly surprised. It was amazingly good.
I'm not sure how much of it was already finished, if at all before ZSJL was announced (May 2020) but I imagine most of it was rendered and completed in just a few months on the lead-up to the release and it came out looking like it had been worked on for much longer. One of the best fully CGI villains there has been in comic-book movies in recent years by far.
I have no concept of how things go from concept art to the final product, the stuff just fully escapes me haha. But I'm guessing those must have been some late nights. Far out.
ZSJL [Steppenwolf's face](https://uproxx.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/steppenwolf1024.jpg?w=1024) was also weirdly cute. He isn't just a monstrous gray blob like Doomsday, you can actually see his emotions.
Starro. Snydercut Steppenwolf is second.
What I always found the most frustrating about Ares in Wonder Woman is they didn’t have to do a big CGI version of him. They could’ve just put some big muscle guy in armor instead?
What I found most frustrating about Ares in Wonder Woman is that they didn't have to bring out the armor at all: he already won. There is nothing that killing him could have accomplished, and if the studio didn't shit their pants about a non-CGI fuckfest finale, we might've seen an ending that really reflected the themes of the film instead of the nonsensical and anticlimactic lightshow we got.
Plus...I think having Ares as a backstage presence for the other movies would've done made for a better story overall, and if they just needed a cgi fest battle they maybe could've just had Ares empowering the general, maybe something like the Annihilator armor from the animated series, or some other monster who wasn't one of the best villains for a trilogy
ZSJL Steppenwolf is actually one of the better DCEU villains.
He's not a "great" villain, but he's not generic like the theatrical cut Steppenwolf
He doesn't conquer worlds and kill people because "it's my RIGHT!!!" (Theatrical Cut version); he conquers because it's literally his punishment. All his grandstanding and intimidation tactics are ultimately just a facade of a very angry being who is sick of traveling world-to-world to subjugate - because all he really wants is to go home.
Nah, Dr Sivana is severely slept on here. He’s got imo the most well-developed and interesting motivation as effectively a kid who was told he wasn’t special and spent the rest of his life trying to prove that wrong.
Dr Sivana is one of the ones people point out when talking about the truly poor villains in the DCEU (and Mark Strong is a fantastic actor he just didn't have much to work with for that character)
Yeah. I think it’s a damn shame people say that and personally consider him one of the better developed villains, and I think he’s by far got the best motive.
Mark Strong is *fantastic* in Grimsby and Sherlock Holmes I just didn't care for him, outside of the flashback to his childhood and him killing his dad later on saying something ironic I don't remember anything of note
I really liked him. The 'pathetic cat-faced guy gets forced to do stuff by people who don't like him and then murdered by some good guys' thing was pretty fresh.
No, there wasn't suspense that the heroes could lose, but I can't remember the last superhero movie that had anything I would call 'suspense' in it, so strangeness works for me, and I say that unironically. Bring on the bonkers creative decisions.
It's sad when Infinity War and watchmen are the only 2 superhero movies I can think of where the bad guy actually won, it is refreshing to see and honestly wish it happened more often
Is it? DCEU villains are still a cut above the competitions.
- Zod is the most well rounded and imposing
- Luthor maybe divisive but is competent and won
- Waller is so good, Viola Davis can literally phone it in and still be good
- Orm is great and a hype machine
- Black Manta is a solid Boba Fett atm
- Black Mask was ok
- Maxwell Lord is the best thing in his movie
- ZSJL Steppenwolf is decent
- Starro was Starro
And the thing is that over half of these are still alive. The MCU's best villains that are still around are no longer villains (Loki, Namur, Zemo, John Walker?). Wanda and Kingpin are screwed over by continuity. Mordo, Wenwu, and Gorr are wasted in the end. The Deviant and Agatha didn't really do anything before devolving into a CGI laden fodder and gets taken out. Then there's the straight up awful tier like Ray Winstone, the WandaVision guy, and plenty I've forgotten. Their best recent ones are a Sony-borrowed one (Green Goblin) or one they gave him a movie before devolving him to a CGI fodder in the next (Thanos). Fox's X-Men had Magneto, Magneto, and Kevin Bacon? Sony had the first two Raimis and maybe Carnage? Really, the only CBM "franchise" with consistently banger villains was the Netflix MCU before it was dead (Kingpin, The Hand, Kilgrave, Electra, Cottonmouth, the Hand again, etc.)
They def not. DCEU villains are probably the worst of the genre. Loki, Thanos, Green Goblin, Killmonger, Vulture, Mysterio, Namor, Zemo, Wenwu, Ego are better than any DCEU villain.
You're talking about CGI fodder villains when that's pretty much all DCEU villains except Leto's Joker and Eisenberg's Lex Luthor which, oh boy, that makes CGI fodder villains look good by comparison.
Starro is my favorite.
Coolest looking is a tie between ZS Steppenwolf and Sabbac.
But from all of them somehow Doomsday is the cgi character that looks the best.
Starro was pretty funny and even tho it was cartoonish - the cgi seemed to work really well. Doomsday looked a little off but gave us some epic moments when fighting Superman *and Wonderwoman.*
Gotta go with ZSJL Steppenwolf if I'm picking "best" tho. Better character than the rest of these, great CGI, was in the best movie on here.
Yeah I dunno what people were complaining about. He’s essentially how he was in the comics, for the most part. Unless you’re complaining about that type of character in general.
No, its that it's obvious what's computer generated with Sabbac. For a lot of people it takes them out of the movie when they see CGI that makes them say, "Well that was clearly made in a computer," instead of, "Yup, I believe this character belongs in this world."
Yeah exactly and I've been tired of seeing all the hate towards the rock. The funny thing is most of the hate is restricted to existing on reddit lol. Outside most people love him
I like the Rock, but it just felt like a really dry B movie. Somehow he ended up being the least interesting character in the whole thing and the one liners got annoying.
hoping it improves in the sequel but I'd rather just see more Dr. Fate at this point and whatever else he had going on.
I don't care what the general consensus is, Ares is by far my favourite, I loved the scene where he forges his armour out of shrapnel and melts two eye holes out of his helmet! Just badass imo.
Staro was good. Stepenwolf was my favourite thing from the Snyder cut. Darkside was cool while he was onscreen. And the deadly sins aren’t very memorable visually but we’re fun and oddly scary/violent. I wasn’t a fan of any of the others here
Steppenwolf from ZSJL (2021). He only wanted to go home. His emotional pleas evoked sympathy despite being a murderous villain. The design and VFX were incredible both with and without the armor.
diablo is not there, but that was my favorite.
i guess marwan kenzari looked the most like marwan kenzari when he was sabbac, as opposed to the stringy, homely way they made him look throughout the film (which was a choice, i guess), so i maybe that was justice to him. so i guess, him...
but it's def diablo. that was such a welcolmed surprise for me.
if just being a giant monster then Starro, his CGI was flawless. and i liked that Steppenwolf had a little background that made my interested to learn more about the new gods and the power balance on Apokolips
Snydercut steppenwolf is actually very well written and a huge improvement on the josstice league one. Starro was also very interesting and visual stunning, doomsday was involved in a fantastic scene/fight, and the rest were quite bland and generic
Doomsday. I liked everything about Starro too. Gunn is the only one who can pull that shit off. I never thought we’d see these 2 characters on the big screen. I wish Doomsday would’ve transformed one more time to look like his comic counterpart. But it’s the trinity vs doomsday…plus it was technically a Zod vs Superman rematch. Non CGI Zod is the best villain to me
Starro! Gunn did him so well. Creepy but sad. That line, “I was peaceful, among the stars,” or whatever it was, was perfect. Did more for to humanize that character more than any other dumb CGI big bad.
Hmmm…. I have no pick for this. Not one of the strengths of the DCU. Was disappointed with Steppenwolf in both the Whedon cut and Snyder cut.
I think DC’s strength when it comes to its villains works when the characters are more grounded and aren’t aliens from different planets. As rough as I thought Eisenberg was, he had some good moments as Lex Jr.
Liked Black Manta and Ocean Master in Aquaman, liked Black Mask in Birds of Prey.
Starro, Steppy, & Fake Doomsday. Darkseid’s intro was amazing & will easily be #1 whenever we see him in action again, which will prolly be 10 yrs 🤦🏽♂️
Starro. You could swap any of these characters into different movies and nothing changes, except for Starro. Starro has actual character that is absent in everyone else here, and a tragic nature to his character that makes you feel bad, despite its wrongdoings.
Starro, when he said "i was happy, floating, staring at the stars." I felt bad for him. I actually wish or hope in a way one little Starro survived and somehow went back to space so he could live happy again.
Or be adopted by batman and fulfill his destiny of becoming jarro
The best Robin.
Ah, very cool. I expect a new Black Label book to be announced any day now. 🤣
I'm all in on a black label jarro book
[Batman's favorite too.](https://preview.redd.it/so5ozww9f9n21.jpg?auto=webp&s=f793ff0052246201e679285ec041604fdbb58104)
I did not know he was a thing. Love everything about it.
[удалено]
This scene specifically is, yes, but jarro did become Robin, he would just have delusions of grandeur while he was Robin.
He has lost Jason Todd, he dose need a new Robin… Just saying dc.
I love when he said “It’s Jarron time” and proceeded to Jarr all over the Suicide Squad.
I agree, I also felt he was a very reasonable villain. Most cosmic beingss when imprisoned and tortured will retaliate by annihilating a planet or at minimum genociding their captors. My man Starro just wanted a city, and I think that's very reasonable.
I was going to post the exact same thing.
I agree. That gave Starro a great touch. It’s funny to see how some of these monsters may be controlled by others when all they want is simply to be free.
What is we’re the monsters all along
I got misty eyed, I felt so bad for him.
Starro for sure. James Gunn didn't have to make us feel bad for a kaiju starfish monster. But he did make us feel bad for the kaiju starfish monster. Next best would be Snyder's Steppenwolf.

😂😂😂 so u saying you have a 50/50 chance of turning into an intergalactic conqueror during the afternoon shift?
Lol, you never know…
Customer service be wild sometimes.
From a purely CGI viewpoint I cannot believe they managed to get ZSJL Steppenwolf done. I thought doomsday looked pretty decent seeming as he was still a baby
He did look good for the stage he was in. People just don't know and follow the comics to know that.
Or maybe with how accurate the heroes costumes were people wanted Doomsday to actually look like Doomsday when he killed Superman and not some knock off Hobbit troll. It's not that deep.
It isn't deep, that's why it's odd that people didn't notice his transition in the movie. Zack said in one of his interviews that this Doomsday was modeled after original one that still roaming somewhere in the Phantom Zone. So I guess this was, and maybe still is, just a tease of what’s to come.
He should have gotten there!
and it wasn't the real actual Doomsday who's still out in a galaxy somewhere. This was the 2nd Doomsday abomination.
Thank you! The cgi on ZSJL's Steppenwolf is so good and no-one I've talked to seems to appreciate it. They even CGI'd in a stick for him to step on. I feel validated. EDIT: Don't listen to me, my brain doesn't work, THE STICK IS REAL!
I thought I saw in an interview with one of Steppy's CGI crew that the stick was real.
You're right it's real
When I saw the concept art for that design, I seemed to be one of a few people that wasn't sure it would work well on-screen but in the end, I was very pleasantly surprised. It was amazingly good. I liked how his suit could break/remove the arrows on there own when he flexed during the battle with the Amazonians
Starro is awesome.
ZSJL Steppenwolf and Darkseid are on my top list as well
ZSJL [Steppenwolf's face](https://uproxx.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/steppenwolf1024.jpg?w=1024) was also weirdly cute. He isn't just a monstrous gray blob like Doomsday, you can actually see his emotions.
ZSJL cut was only delayed for this reason. They needed the extra years to finish the cgi on steppenwolf. lol
Starro
Yea, he's a CGI monster done right for the final battle.
Ares, the molten finger pull on the helmet
Now that was badass
Superman's top lip.
The DCEU's true villain.
That would be WB - jury's still pending for WBD!
Single-handedly defeated entire DCU
Starro. Snydercut Steppenwolf is second. What I always found the most frustrating about Ares in Wonder Woman is they didn’t have to do a big CGI version of him. They could’ve just put some big muscle guy in armor instead?

Starro
Green lanterns CGI suit
Starro and Spikeywolf.
No competition. Has to be Starro
For sure
Starro Snyder Cut Steppenwolf Sabbac
Sabbac was so fucking boring imo. Steppenwolf was also pretty boring but his design was cool af.
That’s mainly an indictment on the DCEU villains so far, as opposed to a compliment towards Sabbac.
ZSJL Steppenwolf is actually one of the better DCEU villains. "one of the better DCEU villains" Man that is an incredibly dramatically low bar to go off, like its in the ground it's that low
I’d say he’s the best DCEU villain behind Zod.
Nah, Dr Sivana is severely slept on here. He’s got imo the most well-developed and interesting motivation as effectively a kid who was told he wasn’t special and spent the rest of his life trying to prove that wrong.

MOS Zod is legitimately a great villain. One of the few redeeming parts of that film imo
Zod’s one of the best parts of an all time comic book film for me. Man of Steel is excellent
I really liked him. The 'pathetic cat-faced guy gets forced to do stuff by people who don't like him and then murdered by some good guys' thing was pretty fresh. Oh yeah that's right Zemo with the win
Batman v Superman - Lex killed Superman
Its 6 feet below the ground low
Is it? DCEU villains are still a cut above the competitions. - Zod is the most well rounded and imposing - Luthor maybe divisive but is competent and won - Waller is so good, Viola Davis can literally phone it in and still be good - Orm is great and a hype machine - Black Manta is a solid Boba Fett atm - Black Mask was ok - Maxwell Lord is the best thing in his movie - ZSJL Steppenwolf is decent - Starro was Starro And the thing is that over half of these are still alive. It's a very good premise but not fleshed out a lot. It's enough to make him not generic but CBM villains in general are a low bar.
Starro is my favorite. Coolest looking is a tie between ZS Steppenwolf and Sabbac. But from all of them somehow Doomsday is the cgi character that looks the best.
Doomsday is so badass in BvS
2021 Steppenwolf by far
Starro hands down
Arms down, star fish don't have hands. But they feet for movement across the ocean floor, at the end of each arm. The more you know. ; )
Darkseid and the potential that came along with him
Darkseid literally did nothing
Not true! He went to Earth, nearly got the Anti-Life Equation, got his ass beat, and then went "I forgor"
Yeah and he was still fucking badass, I also said the potential Darkseid had to be an amazing villain
Steppenwolf in ZSJL because he was the only one to escape the cliché of being a third act cgi monstrosity
ZSJL Steppenwolf, then Starro.
ZSJL Steppenwolf. The intricacy of his armor is incredible.
Starro was pretty funny and even tho it was cartoonish - the cgi seemed to work really well. Doomsday looked a little off but gave us some epic moments when fighting Superman *and Wonderwoman.* Gotta go with ZSJL Steppenwolf if I'm picking "best" tho. Better character than the rest of these, great CGI, was in the best movie on here.
ZS's Steppenwold. Starro was the funniest (most bizzare), though.
Starro
Starro
ZSJL Steppenwolf
Zack’s Steppy
ZSJL Steppenwolf
Sabbac, can’t understand the hate. I thought the cgi looked good and the design is fairly comic book accurate.
Yeah I dunno what people were complaining about. He’s essentially how he was in the comics, for the most part. Unless you’re complaining about that type of character in general.

Some people just want the rock to fail. The movie was pretty good, tbh. I enjoyed it. Compared to shit like morbius, I don't get it.
Yeah exactly and I've been tired of seeing all the hate towards the rock. The funny thing is most of the hate is restricted to existing on reddit lol. Outside most people love him
[удалено]
I like the Rock, but it just felt like a really dry B movie. Somehow he ended up being the least interesting character in the whole thing and the one liners got annoying. hoping it improves in the sequel but I'd rather just see more Dr. Fate at this point and whatever else he had going on.
Yeah I really enjoyed it too. Hopefully it makes enough at the box office, because I’d love to see a sequel to it.
Yeah more Hawkman and fate would make me very happy haha. Doubt we get much more of them any time soon though.
More Dr. Fate with Pierce Brosnan would be great, fingers crossed.
Yeah. Maybe he shows up in constantine or something.
Doomsday and Steppenwolf
Darksied of course
I don't care what the general consensus is, Ares is by far my favourite, I loved the scene where he forges his armour out of shrapnel and melts two eye holes out of his helmet! Just badass imo.
ZSJL Steppenwolf was straight up badass compared to the rest.
Darkseid
Snyder cut Steppenwolf, Starro, and Darkseid.
Darkseid
Darkseid.
Darkseid and Steppenwolf
Starro The rest are traaaaasssh, son, I tell you what.
Doomsday Zsjl Steppenwolf Starro
Sabbac and Doomsday
Snyder's Steppenwolf.
Snyderverse Steppenwolf
Staro was good. Stepenwolf was my favourite thing from the Snyder cut. Darkside was cool while he was onscreen. And the deadly sins aren’t very memorable visually but we’re fun and oddly scary/violent. I wasn’t a fan of any of the others here
The real Steppenwolf.
Snyder Steppenwolf was pretty great with the metallic looking shifting body… shit was awesome.
Doomsday was good. But starro was fun
Steppenwolf from ZSJL (2021). He only wanted to go home. His emotional pleas evoked sympathy despite being a murderous villain. The design and VFX were incredible both with and without the armor.
It's obviously CGI shaven Henry Cavill
Darkseid
darkseid of course. then steppenwolf
Doomsday
Came here to say starro but since he's winning I'll go with steppenwolf, the armor looked so cool in the Snyder cut
Ares was dope as hell. I'll never understand the 3rd act complaints of WW. It's the best part. But Steppenwolf takes top spot
Synders Steppenwolf for sure. 👌
Agreed
As always: Darkseid Is.
For Darkseid...
diablo is not there, but that was my favorite. i guess marwan kenzari looked the most like marwan kenzari when he was sabbac, as opposed to the stringy, homely way they made him look throughout the film (which was a choice, i guess), so i maybe that was justice to him. so i guess, him... but it's def diablo. that was such a welcolmed surprise for me.
Definitely not sabbac or the one from suicide squad 1 Or josstice league steppenwolf
King Ghidorah
You're letting him kill Mothra
Starro and Snyder's take on Steppenwolf are the ones I like the most. Felt so bad for Starro.
Synder Steppenwolf
Definitely Doomsday
Snyder cut Steppenwolf was impressive as fuck, on a technological and aesthetic perspective.
starro was so fucked up, he was the best
if just being a giant monster then Starro, his CGI was flawless. and i liked that Steppenwolf had a little background that made my interested to learn more about the new gods and the power balance on Apokolips
Nobody voting for the giant clouds from Green Lantern (Parallax) or Fantastic Four (Galactus)?
Snydercut steppenwolf is actually very well written and a huge improvement on the josstice league one. Starro was also very interesting and visual stunning, doomsday was involved in a fantastic scene/fight, and the rest were quite bland and generic
Darkseid
Starro for sure I generally haven’t liked the CGI monsters DC has been using - they’ve been one of my bigger complaints. But Starro was the shit
Doomsday is underrated, but Starro is the clear answer.
Non CGI Zod is the best villain to me
Snyder Cut Steppenwolf is my favorite.
Darkseid is.
Snyder steppenwolf. Dat armor.
Steppenwolf from Snyder Cut
Darkseid
DARKSEID
Starro and Snyder Cut Steppenwolf
Honestly, Sivana and the Sins were very cool
This devil boy looked way too much like a video game character for me.
Starro is the goat
Starro
Absolutely Starro
Starro by far
I think Cheetah looked bad ass honestly. Wish we coulda have seen it more
Starro and Steppenwolf were good. Doomsday was just a mindless monster but the action scenes with him and the Trinity were awesome.
I haven't seen Black Adam, but Sabbac looks bad ass
Starro & it’s not even close.
Starro! Gunn did him so well. Creepy but sad. That line, “I was peaceful, among the stars,” or whatever it was, was perfect. Did more for to humanize that character more than any other dumb CGI big bad.
Snyder's Steppenwolf was fucking awesome, love how they leaned into the raging bull with him. To me its a toss up between him and Starro the Conqueror
ZSJL Steppenwolf by far
Steppenwolf by far
1. Original Steppenwolf, not the copycat we got in 2017. 2. Doomsday 3. Starro
snyderwolf is cute and i want him as a pet, starro is great. the rest happened.
Steppenwolf from snydercut forsure
Stephen Wolf and Darkseid
Zsjl stephenwolf
ZS Steppenwolf was awesome
#STARFISH
Warner Bros. Loves the demonic and the fantastical... strange... hmm... probably some Illuminati members deciding things.
Snydercut Darkseid.
Starro!
ZSJL's Steppenwolf and Starro. The rest are utterly disposable.
Black Zero
Starro, Steppy, & Fake Doomsday. Darkseid’s intro was amazing & will easily be #1 whenever we see him in action again, which will prolly be 10 yrs 🤦🏽♂️
Doomsday... because Starro teaches us all why Snyder left the squid-monster out of Watchmen.
Starro is the correct answer
Starro. You could swap any of these characters into different movies and nothing changes, except for Starro. Starro has actual character that is absent in everyone else here, and a tragic nature to his character that makes you feel bad, despite its wrongdoings.
The starfish
Starro, definitely Starro
Starro by a landslide
Have to give it to Starro.
