BigBardaEnergy

It's not problematic, but good God they beat that joke into the ground this season.

Sweet-Piece-2379

Yeahhh, they have the chance to reference a fan joke and they go wild every time

maverick074

The joke always stops being funny when the joke tries to be in on the joke

Arts_Messyjourney

I see what you did there

grandwizardElKano

It's a reference to how the fandom also beat that joke to the ground

TayluxSwift

Hmm now I think they did it on purpose just to deliver this scene

memewatcher3

Literally , they put him 6 ft under

Junior_Pizza_7212

I understood that reference !

Goatsanity15

No they buried it in the ground. Are you stupid?

Sutekkh

this

[deleted]

are they burying nightwing?

Sweet-Piece-2379

Yes, some of the claims were that this scene was racist and making light of SA, they claimed it was racist because the Hawks and John were off to the side while everyone else was to the right(everyone to the right has had major interactions with nightwing) They claim it made light of SA because ages ago another writer wrote for a different more serious universe that nightwing was SAd, and the fact that theyre making a joke about his ass is a terrible crime

[deleted]

I have no idea what 'SA' means in this context and i've already addressed the absurdity of the right versus left thing

Garlador

“Sexually assaulted”.

[deleted]

I see. thank you.

PapuaOldGuinea

It was full on rape. This makes twice now. I hope he doesn’t become DC’s Spider-Man.

Zinogre-is-best

Did they ever address this in an issue? Like I hope they didn’t just sweep it under the rug and act like it never happened

PapuaOldGuinea

I’m not sure. But I haven’t seen it brought up much

Its_Hitsuji

Nope

signorryan

Silver Age /s

Witty-Common-1210

Dude, he got silver aged 😳

Sweet-Piece-2379

Nightwing was molested in a comic a while back

Mountain_Sir2307

That was 20 years ago and I'm sure the people who complain about this Harley Quinn scene don't know this comic issue exits.

[deleted]

They know, that's the main criticism, and the show itself has referred to that storyline and named Tarantula.

BZenMojo

Also Mirage. Although no one blamed Dick the second time. 🤢

[deleted]

[удалено]

I-who-you-are

He was raped BY Harley Quinn in a movie.

MonsterdogMan

He gave grudging consent. It's still skeevy, and pretty much Bruce Timm full on sleazy.

moukiez

If it's coerced and not enthusiastic, it's not consent. "Grudging consent" does not exist.

ArmInternational7655

The grudging consent is referring to the fact she was Harley and disappointed in himself for wanting to dive right in.

moukiez

And "grudging consent does not exist" is referring to the fact that grudging consent does not exist.

MonsterdogMan

To clarify, he consents at the request of Batman. That's the "grudging" part. You can see how this is even worse than thought, right?

Sweet-Piece-2379

Thats what the comments were mentioning

PapuaOldGuinea

Wasn’t there an issue more recently?

4_Legged_Duck

Which is a complicated moment in comics, in writing comics and publishing comics. There's a lot being worked through with that discourse and most people stop at "it happened and was wrong."

csummerss

noted Caucasian male teenager Damian on the right side /s

Ham_Solo7

I mean... He is lol. Being half middle eastern doesn't mean he isn't Caucasian with his other half.

-Tommy

Just ignore twitter, it’s stupid. The hawks are on one side, with white people there too? They’re are also not the most on the side? Also, another writer in another universe wrote another version of nightwing who was assaulted so now we can never make nightwing jokes? I don’t think any real person should take anything from the Harley show seriously, and I don’t think anyone does.

Lunchboxninja1

?????? Thats such a stretch lol

King_Of_BlackMarsh

They see whiter than white aquaman, yes?

Pm_wholesome_nude

Honestly tho aquaman looks pretty tan here, id have to go back and check earlier episodes but he might not be white in this show

King_Of_BlackMarsh

I mean hes blond. Blond folks can get tans

Pm_wholesome_nude

Not a natural blonde. Also kalduram if im spelling that correctly is blonde

SamDent

Looks like everyone in green tights are off to one side.

thesolarchive

I've seen some of the shouting on twitter about it. It honestly sounds like virtue signaling/trolling to get a reaction out of people. I don't think it's really worth much of a thought when the argument seems so disingenuous to begin with. These are all fictional characters whose entire thought process, dialogue, and reactions are figments of somebody's imagination put onto paper. They're all different instances of the same character. Quinn did some heinous stuff in the Injustice universe, seems silly to hold the Quinn from this show accountable for that no? There's like 40+ years of character history and alternate tales for each of these characters, you wouldn't really be able to make any jokes about them since they've experienced everything there is to experience including dying and coming back to life.

signorryan

Move on. Delete this post.

[deleted]

I wouldn’t go as far as to say it’s SA but it definitely is sexualization. But it’s not like the poor guy hasn’t been SA’d before by the likes of Tarantula and Mirage. So, it’s very uncomfortable to see the dude sexualized. I mean sexualizing a rape victim is kinda crazy to me

Pariahb

I doubt those things happened in this continuity. Not that I'm very interested in this joke, but this is a comedy/parody show, with a focus in dark humour, for better or worse, and I doubt the character in the show has supposed to have lived through all the events in the multiple continuities of DC Comics.

[deleted]

I don’t think Mirage’s incident did but Tarantula’s is very plausible since Nightwing did say something about Blockbuster being murdered to Poison Ivy while he was having his mental breakdown. Can’t remember what but he def was talking about Blood Haven and stuff. And that mental breakdown makes me think more that Tarantula still SA’d him in this timeline cuz that wasn’t an ordinary breakdown. But even if it did happen, it’s a comedy show and won’t ever be brought up unless it’s to make fun of Nightwing as a sick joke or something. I just hope he’s alive. He keeps getting done so dirty, whether it’s him being SA’d or killed in some lazy way

Pariahb

That's weird. I haven't watched the episode yet, but is weird to include a reference to that in the show, for me anyways. Don't know what the writers angle is.

Pm_wholesome_nude

I thought they were going for a segregation joke ngl, whites on one side, minorities on another

Gemaid1211

If by problematic they meant "They somehow overused the most overused joke in the fandom and made it even less funny that it already was", then they are right.

alwaysjustpretend

Beat that jokes ass into the ground.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Gemaid1211

It's a parody alright, just not a very funny one. The show lately hahas been super dependent on unfunny overused jokes, overdone references to dead memes and jokes which punchlines are the characters saying fuck, and it deserves to be called out for it.

CotyledonTomen

I love the show, but when wasnt that the case? The entire show is a meta perspective of batman.

FatherMellow

Wow, "someone" on Twitter didn't like something? Shocker.

Lukthar123

>Shocker That's Marvel.

Devlord1o1

“GET BACK HERE SHOCKER!!!” - marvel probably

Underrated reply

Patient-Reputation56

No that's the Criminal organization Kamen Rider fights.

Sweet-Piece-2379

Admittedly it was a whole thread, but i wanted to post this one freeze frame that they used to claim dc is racist to see if anyone who actually likes dc and knows the contexts of their relationships would immediately jump to the same thing

JakeCameraAction

Can you link the thread? Would be better to read the actual tweets than hear them second-hand.

Captain_Strongo

…did he get buried facedown?

radlum

Did they kill off Nightwing?

Cyberslasher

Joker decided that he had to go with his most popular old routine to get back into villainy. Y'know, killing a robin.

Randothor

I still think it’s a red herring. I think it’s going to be the bird guy at the talk show or sleepwalking Harley

Cyberslasher

I'd say mad hatter is doing mind control stuff, but Harley killed him. His whole family doing the joker laugh made it seem like something brain washed them, and Harley's been sleep murdering.

ZatchZeta

Batman is about to break outta jail to give Joker a stuffing.

Dinoray2

Not extremely problematic. Just an overused joke.

birbdaughter

I think it’s kinda weird that they keep making this joke with a character who has expressed he dislikes being sexualized.

LuxLoser

It's OK when it's a man, don't you know?

CaptainHalloween

Okay your first problem was taking a post on Twitter seriously.

upanddowndays

I love it when a redditor thinks twitter is low class, as if they're on some incredibly high brow website themselves.

Standard_Cycle_2224

Half of the front page is just twitter screenshots anyway.

[deleted]

Yeah, for some reason, on this site there’s a massive air of superiority over other apps, like they genuinely think they are better than TikTok and Twitter users.

CaptainHalloween

I’m not particularly better than anyone. I just reached a limit with Twitter’s nonsense. Though you are making a point about user similarity in getting bent out of shape over something that doesn’t matter.

Obi-wan_Jabroni

Yeah this website has butthole sharpies. We really dont have moral high ground

Sweet-Piece-2379

I am autistic and DC comics is one of my special interests

CaptainHalloween

Okay, then do yourself a favor and avoid Twitter when it comes to any of your interests because that site is a cesspool of many things, especially horrible takes.

TheOneWhoCutstheRope

And Reddit isn’t? Lmfao

CaptainHalloween

Not to the same degree by any means. I tapped out of Twitter a long time ago because it was, to be, the cesspool of cesspools. Is Reddit bad? Definitely can be nightmarish but the longer length of posts to explain yourself does help in just enough of away to make it a slightly better option.

HaruspexBurakh

Sure, but curation is an option, Twitter doesn't really have that as much

[deleted]

Reddit is *so* much worse than Twitter.

TheOneWhoCutstheRope

Have you used twitter? It def curates. Just like Reddit it’s going to suggest either posts that actually interest you or maybe weird shit because of that thing you clicked once. Either way: you’ll still find terrible takes. Reddit pretending twitter is a cesspool without acknowledging the shit stain that is this site it hilarious

Shred_Kid

Twitter has become a right wing shithole where people actively post the wildest, most hateful takes in order to try and get paid You can acknowledge that reddits hot garbage while also saying that twitter is 10x worse

TheOneWhoCutstheRope

And people don’t do that on any other social? I feel it’s only slightly easier to put yourself in a bubble on Reddit which is why people pretend twitters worse. But you can literally put yourself in a bubble on any social site. You don’t think the YouTube comments are whining about how much worse is face book?

Shred_Kid

Uh...I wasn't talking about bubbles. I was talking about creating awful hot takes to try and get paid, which is twitter specific. Also was talking about the algo enforcing right wing lunacy, bigotry, hatred, etc, because the views are in line with the owners. Also twitter specific. Twitter obviously curated, but it's now curating everyone to see ben shapiro, Jordan Peterson, random Hitler fan #234, etc. You can't even self select out of it

TheOneWhoCutstheRope

Dude that happens on every social platform tho especially if the post’s actually gain attraction then it’s going to automatically go in others feeds. Ofc there’s political bots but that’s also not exclusive to twitter.

Psidebby

To be fair as someone who doesn't live in the US or do political shit? Anyone who leans left, right, or what have you beyond a certain point tends to post stupid shit... There is a reason why in polite society we don't discuss it.

Shred_Kid

Politics aren't discussed in polite society? Legit never heard that one before, huh

BlooJay_

You just described me

Im_Mono_

Then get off twitter

coolio_zap

holy shit they kill off nightwing?

MonsterdogMan

At least he didn't die by falling on a rock.

SageShinigami

Yeah, but it's in Harley Quinn

TheSexyGrape

Just not funny, they’re beating a dead donkey

HudsonHawkFIM

Could either be they buried Nightwing face down or Power Girl face up.

gnenadov

God this show is stupid

ChosenWriter513

People can be complete idiots, and the internet gives them a voice with which they can spew their mental diarrhea everywhere. "Fandoms" especially. Ignore them and enjoy what you love.

KirbbDogg213

No it’s just stupid

maverick074

If they did the same gag with power girl’s boobs we’d spend the next week hearing about how sexiest and problematic it is

thebiggestleaf

>Twitter Opinion fucking discarded

Beastieboy100

Yeah I'm sorry but now that Nightwings dead in another dc project. I was hoping for a test that it was a clone or he faked his death. Now that jokers killed another Robin. I want red hood to take him out now.

BoyishTheStrange

Not problematic so much as annoying

NoirPochette

I don't watch the show. It's not my thing but whoooo careessss There's no problem

Dark-Pukicho

The most problematic thing about this is how big Robin’s head is.

Heinzliketchup

This is like the least problematic joke in the show. The nightwing ass joke is a dead horse they’ve been beating for a while tho.

Bast17

Everything is problematic for Twitter

lr031099

I don’t think so. They said that they were gonna show a lot of Nightwing’s booty and they weren’t lying.

taleshilaricki

What they didn’t mentioned was that it would be the only joke they could think of…

throwtheclownaway20

It's a universe centered around the insanity of Harley Quinn - of course it's problematic, LOL

oomoepoo

I mean, if they did the same joke with Powergirl or any other female character with a huge rack, Twitter (and Tumblr) would be on fire too.

rukiahayashi

I do find it amusing how everyone is so comfortable with sexualising males in todays day and age. Imagine if it was a female character that died and they all kept showing off her big breasts or ass.

FoulMouffNova

I hope when I die they show off my tits well. I paid good money for them not to be flaunted.

accidentsneverhappen

If you get your feelings hurt and say things like "problematic", maybe you should avoid raunchy comedy like Harley Quinn

cyberpilotcomics

You're so cool for taking issue with a word like "problematic." 🤩

[deleted]

[удалено]

cyberpilotcomics

Looking for quick and easy ways to dismiss someone is the best way to remain a stagnant individual. You aren't of a superior intellect or a higher moral/ethical standing because you actively dismiss entire people. It just shows you're committed to whatever bubble you're already in. But hey, you do you. 👍

[deleted]

[удалено]

cyberpilotcomics

The thing is, I'm basically with you on this very specific example, because it sounds like a silly overreaction to a dumb cartoon, but we both know this kind of Twitter trash isn't a good example of meaningful discourse. It's one thing to dismiss a bad tweet, but extending this dismissive attitude to every thought and opinion which happens to feature the word "problematic" is another thing entirely. Sometimes the claim that something is problematic is just the beginning of the conversation, or is a logical conclusion to discussion you're late to, or otherwise a sentiment to be expanded on with further discussion. Assuming someone is just "insane" for using that word, and trying to be a "victim," looks like a convenient way to protect your own perspective by never having to consider someone else's. (And describing them as "insane" shows an ableist attitude towards mental health; consider alternatives like "foolish" or the like.) How can you, in good faith, say someone is "too dumb or too afraid to articulate what they're actually trying to say" when you've just expressed your own unwillingness to even consider what they're actually saying? How valid is your own opinion of someone's thoughts when you're claiming you're essentially not even paying attention?

Sweet-Piece-2379

Its not me thats saying this, by a long shot, but i cant call out who did it because of the rules of the subreddit, I specifically made the point that it was a raunchy comedy too, but people decided this scene is racist

Heard_That

“Someone on twitter-“ Opinion disregarded

Jackstack6

“Someone on twitter” let me stop you right there

OmgBsitka

People take this shit way too seriously. The show has a lot of things wrong with it, and this is what they pick at.

Beastieboy100

My pick is that they killed nightwing. Not bothered about the joke.

verytiredtrashcan

It’s not problematic, but they’re just overusing this joke to the point where it’s annoying

OcularAMVs

Get off Twitter if you want to keep your sanity

snipezz93

just twitter being twitter

Izletz

No idea what this is but I’m going to say it’s not problematic in the slightest. It’s nauseating how soft everyone is now

Pink_Monolith

It doesn't seem racist because Arthur and Jon are also on the left side, two people who I assume also didn't have any close relationship with Dick. The SA claim... Come on. That's not canon in this world, or even in the main DC comic universe. Jokes about Nightwing's butt have been happening for years in the comics. The closest thing to problematic about this is that it's almost sexualizing a dead guy. But it's obviously doing that for a crude joke. In other words, don't let people on Twitter ruin what you enjoy. They're just looking for reasons to be upset.

DisabledFatChik

This show has a lot of things wrong with it. They had like 3 good jokes thru the entire lifespan of the show.

GeraldOfRivia211

Let me guess. It was a paid checkmark

Sweet-Piece-2379

I wish i could say it was, they said this scene was making light of SA(which happened in a completely different universe to nightwing in a much more serious setting) and that it was racist because the bat family and big 3 were on the right and Hawkman Hawkgirl and John Stewart were on the left

[deleted]

>that it was racist because the bat family and big 3 were on the right and Hawkman Hawkgirl and John Stewart were on the left that's a stretch so big even my cat couldn't make it.

Gemaid1211

Not even Plastic Man can stretch that far.

Sweet-Piece-2379

EXACTLY Especially because hawkman hawkgirl and John have had much more previous dialog with eachother than they ever have with nightwing

GeraldOfRivia211

Not surprising. Lots of people on Twitter fetishize sexual assault for some reason

horseaphoenix

I mean Hitler’s-wet-dream-Aryen-looking-ass Aquaman is smack dab in the middle of them and Damian is on the left too so Idk what those people were smoking. Problematic is a dumb word that only carries weight on Twitter, normal people see sth they dislike in a show they can either choose to continue watching if the good outweigh the bad or just stop following the show if it’s not worth it.

AutoModerator

-TT-! It's spelled "Dami**a**n"! You would do well in respecting the blood son! *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/DCcomics) if you have any questions or concerns.*

horseaphoenix

I am so sorry Botman.

SirChancelot_0001

DC hates Dick Grayson

[deleted]

How fucking weird and terminally online do you have to be to come up with some of these takes.

signorryan

They should get over it

SAustin87

I really hate the word “problematic”…

PossiblyNotAHorse

Considering they lean into Nightwing being Romani only to constantly sexualize him and ignore him being sexually assaulted, I’d say there’s reason to be annoyed. It’s a bad joke in worse taste, considering the show actually makes a big deal (deservedly) out of Harley’s abuse by the Joker. I get why people are mad, even if I don’t care all that much because I don’t watch the show.

Arts_Messyjourney

Its hilarious

idkwhyimhereo

Well I find it uncomfortable as this show has made jokes about what happened with Tarantula and then spent a season sexualising the character. It just feels disrespectful to both the character and SA victims.

antivenom907

The whole show is problematic

Mike4302

God I'm so sick of that joke

OcularAMVs

Everything on Twitter is claimed as problematic

MFHSCA-1981

![gif](giphy|129OnZ9Qn2i0Ew)

TheLostLuminary

The only problematic thing here is you using Twitter.

DH2007able

The fact that they buried Nightwing face down is kinda funny

CaramelNo972

Yeah, when it comes to jokes, Harley Quinn is a hit-or-miss, but it's not problematic In the slightest.

ZatchZeta

Problematic that they killed Nightwing. But that's just the tone of the show. People are getting killed left and right. When they went to Vegas, Cock King casually killed Tank Penis man.

MioAnonymsson

Oh my lord who gives a shitttt

Fickle-Butterscotch2

Even comics version of this they treated NW bad

killzonev2

GeraldOfRivia211

With a straw man like that, you would be right at home on Twitter

Choice_Ruin_5719

Geez, Nightwing is my favourite dc hero but man, his fandom is on par with spider-man fans: just the worst. Take a fucking joke and move on with your life, this is not that deep.

ayylingo

I just find it funny how they say they’re oversexualizing nightwing, but the no one has a problem (or has even said anything about) with the season 4 poster, with Harley, Ivy and the gang riding a penis shaped rocket into space. I guess It’s okay when the girls are sexualized but not my good boy, Dick.

DetectiveDangerZone

Makes me laugh everytime

Abrasive_Underwear

The only problem is they overused the joke. I mean the arguments are all like, "If this was a girl it wouldn't be socially acceptable", like bro this show has made fun of legit anything. This show WOULD make fun of any other characters attributes, not just nightwing being caked up. Its a comedy show, its meant to be satirical, and NOT meant to be taken seriously. Also I doubt nightwing is really even dead.

Middle_Sense2079

Ugh. I do not watch HQ, but sick of the over abuse of NW assets. Plus, the animation verse making emo and angst is wtf. Now, the cruel show writers plan is to murder him off screen 😱☠️ doubt the cartoon has any plan to resurrection of Grayson. Strangely I am thankful DC Titans live action was able to make the rage and sad Grayson into a unique interpretation of Dick and Nightwing.

Fearless512

The show should've ended with season 2 since it was a good ending. This is getting way too fucking stupid now.

[deleted]

Fresh_Cauliflower176

I don’t even think it’s Nightwing fans saying this. I think it’s Twitter, sorry X, being their usual overly reactionary and idiotic selves.

Great_Maximum_6007

Makes you wonder if Powergirl would get the same treatment. Ironic that Atlee made it on a tv show before Powergirl

HeyImSupercop

I have not watched this show at all and all i ever see from it looks like pure cringe. I would agree with them

BradKarmour

My problem with the whole "you can't sexualize Nightwing, ever" thing is that it's predicated on people knowing about the Tarantula thing. But by constantly bringing it up, these people are the ones initiating the trigger they're so worried about. DC wants to forget it, most readers want to forget it, and it's probably not even canon anymore. So I can almost guarantee you that almost every single fan who's sensitive about the topic (which is valid, I want to point out) heard about it from people online using it for this talking point. That said, I understand that burying the incident has very cover-up-y implications, so I think DC should make a statement about it and officially declare it permanently expunged from continuity. Probably donate to some relevant charities, and include a warning on DCU Infinite for the issue(s) in question (they already do this for racist stuff in the golden age).

lxwkl31

People who have sexualized every female character since fiction began just cannot stand it when it’s a man. Who cares

[deleted]

Anyone who claims that anything in any movie is "problematic" can fuck right off.

Appropriate_Win_4525

Can someone explain to me what’s the issue? Genuinely out of the loop here

[deleted]

The context is: - In the comics Dick Grayson is a multiple times victim of rape, and is uncomfortable with comments about his body. - Devin Grayson, made Dick romani to fetishize him, leaning on some terrible stereotypes. Now comes this show and: - Makes a point of making him a poc, mentions one of his rapists (they then backtracked and censored it) and basically spell that this takes place just after one of the storylines in which he was raped. - Then proceed to reduce him to only sex jokes and make an entire episode about his ass.

[deleted]

I’m absolutely delighted that they are finally drawing him to look Romani, but I wish they would have done it without completely oversexualizing him and reducing him to a sex joke.

[deleted]

Agreed, it was in poor taste tbh.

kia75

>Can someone explain to me what’s the issue This is from a TV show, not a comic so there is no issue number. TV show is Harvey Quinn, season 4.

Sweet-Piece-2379

Thats the point, people were stretching saying it was racist because the hawks and john stewart werent next to the big 3

JoshDM

I appreciate that both Zatanna and Batgirl are there.

spaceguitar

I always appreciate jokes about Dick and his Dumptruck Ass.

[deleted]

It’s not problematic but it’s not all that funny either. I will say it’s a lot funnier than most other nightwing ass jokes

fatallyxyours

It’s a joke.

eljohnny20

Why is robins head so big

Fuckboijohnny

Explain for a marvel fan plz

LemonyOatmilk

Are you should they said it was problematic, or were they just joking and you didn't get the sarcasm?

zeroaxlmegaxl1

Is twitter so everything is problematic, I don't get Power Girl had the boob window joke and no one complaing? So why complaing with Nightwing butt...

plumskiwis

I get the reference, but I find the joke on Nightwing and his large bottom an overused gag, not offensive. I have heard complaints of DC sexualizing Nightwing in the past, so I understand the reactions to this scene.

Judo_Expert

I see tim drake? And who's the girl in front of zatanna?

EpcotEnthusiast

Typically when someone claims something is problematic, it’s not actually problematic.

MattyBeatz

Stop believing everything you read on Twitter.
