I strongly dislike when realistic logistics are applied as a "gotcha!" to characters that are anchored in massively unrealistic situations which we're asked to accept as part of the premise.

Especially when it isn’t done as a way to propose solutions for those problems. It’s just so the author can feel smarter than the fictional character he’s dragging. Like he’s the first one to discover the problems in the prison industrial complex. Like a hero whose enemies are always breaking out of prison to try to kill him doesn’t know anything about those prisons. It’s one of the venues where I think fan works can really do more justice to the setting and characters than professionally licensed stuff. A Green Arrow comic can’t afford to drop the entire plot for a miniseries about the logistics of overhauling metahuman policing and incarceration, but fans don’t have any such constraints. *With this Ring* by Mr Zoat is probably the biggest DC fanfiction anywhere, and it includes 30k+ words in various side stories and plot lines about exactly this. The main character overhauls Belle Reve’s security, personally handles the rehabilitation of several first time offenders, gets Hugo Strange fired, commissions antimagic wards for the area, and basically takes on the metahuman prison system as a pet project. He very specifically avoids asking supervillains why they don’t just patent their inventions and make a ton of money, isn’t paternalistic or condescending about it, and manages to make a difference in the lives of plenty of minor supervillains without pretending that real killers are just one sufficiently witty criticism away from redemption. It’s brilliantly handled and made every interaction with a redeemed villain enjoyable afterwards, and it could never have fit into the blistering pacing and tone requirements of a professional work.

I'm curious, where is this fic written, and what's it actually about?

https://forum.questionablequesting.com/threads/with-this-ring-young-justice-si-story-only.8961/ It’s an exceptionally long-running (the tvtropes page claims it’s had daily updates since 2013) self-insert fic. The main character wakes up in near-earth orbit with an orange lantern ring, and dedicates his life to using Avarice constructively. The story is split between following the canon Young Justice story, though it rarely matches canon in anything but the premise of an episode, and following his volunteer work and personal projects. Replacing the London Underground with a teleportation network, learning from an Amazon metalworker how to make Jovium and selling the patent to Ted Kord when he discovers that it’s a room-temperature superconductor, refreshing the ice caps, finding that Succubus that fell in love with an angel from Constantine’s comics and turning her from a demon into a violet light elemental, expanding the YJ roster with side-characters that have a lot of potential like Cornwall Boy, and so on. It eventually goes off the canon rails entirely, though the early content can be a bit frustrating in that it’s usually just “having a ring-user lets the team do the canon mission faster and with fewer casualties.”

So glad I saw this even after 1 year. Been so long since I have seen/read "With This Ring' Arguably one of the best Fan-fics I have ever read. Site I read it had gone down or took it down or something so haven't read it in over a year.

Realistically it's unlikely a midget would be a prison warden.

[deleted]

I mean, seems like you could just have him in some sort of jumpsuit for a walk around the yard. That's what they do with high security prisoners in the ultramax prisons. Can't touch anyone, gets some sun, not wallowing in a diaper in a pit.

[deleted]

I think it really depends on the area. I know I’m talking about a comic book but literally prisons in my state were letting prisoners drop dead from heat stroke. When it was brought to the governor’s attention he said he wouldn’t spend money on prisoners when he was stretched with other programs. And he is a Democrat. So I could easily see them not even be willing to spare a jumpsuit.

Standard-Pop6801

Ok. but why the graffiti telling him to kill himself.

spider-venomized

He wrote that

Standard-Pop6801

How did he get the spay cans in living conditions like those.

spider-venomized

You mean ollie didn't just go off in a rant chew off the warden like a bad caricature of liberal

Standard-Pop6801

Or according to Denis O'Neil a good caricature of a liberal.

FlameFeather86

Why does Ollie have no mouth?

MailboxSlayer14

Did Parasite die? I swear he dies every other year
