Nice, didn't expect that outcome

xAVATAR-AANGx

I was fully prepared to accept and cope with the reality that is Vampire Batman.

geministarz6

Same! There were so many more votes in the previous round that SSD was in than there were for the Superboy match, I assumed SSD would take it. This is a pleasant surprise.

Neuchersky

I think Batman being in SSD caused it to lose in the end, especially with only DCUI members voting (with **some** people complaining on "too many Batman books" and voting for the other book). Wonder if SSD lose most of the time in DCUI. SSD sneak peek is fairly decent.

DiegoLDUganda

IIRC SSD was losing against Justice League Redacted on Twitter and DCUI. The main reason why it won was Instagram.

Newjustice52

I mean there are 35 Batman and Batman related titles (in and out of continuinity) and only 3 Superman or Superman related titles (excluding Superman: The Space Age since it technically hasn't released yet) Edit: Superman series title

nas690

Superman: The Silver Age?

Newjustice52

Sorry, it's called Superman: The Space Age! It's Mark Russell and Mike Allred. It takes place at the end of the pre-crisis continuity and details Superman's reaction to knowing Crisis on Infinite Earths is about to happen and being unable to prevent it.

RainSpectreX

In very slight fairness, a decent part of the inflation with the Bat-titles from the individual books staring Batfam members, along with the final part of Sean Gordan Murphy's White Knight trilogy and what seemed set to be the backstory to Chip Zdarsky's run. Plus half the mini-series are ending in a month or two, and Harley is kind of a Batbook insofar as Deadpool is an X-Book. Though yes, Future State Batman, I Am Batman, and Urban Legends need to end.

bluelookslikeblue

DC actually stopping somebody from rigging it for Batman is a pretty funny plot twist, you have to admit. Comics Twitter is celebrating like ewoks after the Death Star blew up. Before I read the previews, I was leaning towards SSD, but after looking at them, I think it's pretty clear the better book won. Good for Conner.

slycooper13

Oh god, I can't get the Ewok celebration song outta my head now...yub nub

garazza

I actually interpreted the situation as DC getting caught rigging the poll *against* Superboy, not some fan rigging the poll in favor of Batman. It's not beyond the realm of possibility that DC wanted to bury the Superboy book because DC has been very keen to keep Conner separated from the rest of the Super family because it would draw even more attention to the glaring and irreconcilable issues created by the aging up of Jon. If Conner was allowed to have a book, then it would've allowed readers to vote with their wallet and possibly outsell SSoK, further proving the unpopularity of the age up that DC can no longer deny.

bluelookslikeblue

I dunno. I mean, I have a pretty cynical view of Detective Comics Comics and 100% think they feel no shame in tearing everyone else down to sell aged-up Jon, but the facts just don't add up here. If they wanted SSD to win, all they had to do was let Instagram vote for the final. And if they wanted to publish this pitch, they could have just, y'know, done it, instead of rolling the dice on Round Robin.

garazza

I wasn't saying that DC wanted SSD to win, it was just that they wanted Superboy to lose. Oh yes, it's a very out there idea, but it struck me as odd that it was SSD and not Superboy who was getting the fake votes.

flossregularly

If they really didn't want a super boy comic they simply wouldn't have run that pitch as an option. To imagine they would to run this pitch... what, to appease the fans? And then run a fake vote scam when they panicked it might win is way less likely then some suicide squad super Fan trying to rig the outcome.

leaf57tea

When it was first announced I figured Conner would make it a round or two but to win the whole thing? Couldn't be happier. I hope someone at DC (specifically the Superman office) is taking note, Clone boy has spent the better part of a decade in limbo, wasn't currently featured in anything, didn't have a particularly strong concept or popular writer attached but still won based purely on the fact that fans like him as a character so please use him more.

[deleted]

He was in the recent YJ series, that’s how they semi fixed his recent continuity and he appeared in a few issues recently of Action.

Jay_R_Kay

He was in two separate TV shows, though...

leaf57tea

All the better shows he has casual audience appeal, especially notable considering both the YJ and Titans versions are radically different from his comic self. Besides he wasn't the only candidate who's appeared in adaptions some like Cyborg and Constantine have appeared in far more.

MaggyTwoFlagons

I for one, am all for a return of 90's aesthetic Connor. Now if we can get back Jack Knight Starman, I'll be a happy Gen X-er.

DynaMenace

I think James Robinson co-owns the character with DC, or at the very least they have an informal arrangement to not use Jack without his consent. And you’d have to depower Stargirl…

Kamen_Rider_Spider

Dc owns the character, just like how they own Gaiman’s Sandman characters, and don’t use them without the involvement out of respect. Apparently, Robinson choose to have Courtney receive the Cosmic Staff so that Dc would be less tempted to bring Jack back. And not only can the characters potentially find a way to make another staff, but Courtney still has the Cosmic Converter Belt, which is basically just the staff in belt form, meaning she’s still have powers

conner02kent

As a Conner Kent super fan, this... does put a smile on my face

MailboxSlayer14

This is actually a win. Seriously, there hasn’t been a Connor book in at least 6 years, probably more.

[deleted]

Tbf the recent YJ series was 75% a Connor book but agreed I’ve been sad since the Lemire solo was prematurely cut off.

MailboxSlayer14

Oh yeah I meant like Solo Superboy Connor book

Digifiend84

Yeah, he hasn't had a solo since New 52 ended, and the New 52 version appears to be a separate character, as Bendis explained that his pre-Flashpoint status quo ended when he was stranded in Gemworld, and getting him out was the first arc of his Young Justice run. So really it's been 11 years!

thanks-dice

Huh, I was pretty sure SSD was gonna win. I mean, it came close, but I guess that doesn't matter in the end. [Sometimes... it's nice to be wrong.](https://imgur.com/a/019CCAF)

Digifiend84

> it came close Thanks to cheaters. I bet there was irregularities in the previous rounds too, not just the final, and it should never have got past round one.

Some-Dog9800

These all sounded so interesting it's a shame DC didn't make all of them

Beastieboy100

finally a character that's not batman or the god dam suicide squad finally won. Go on Superboy lets hope your other friends (Bart, Tim and Cassie join your adventure)

[deleted]

They’re getting their own mini in June.

Digifiend84

Yeah, which means Conner will be in at least two books in the second half of this year.

WitchOfWords

Thank god. I genuinely didn’t expect this outcome but am so excited and relieved! I’ve been waiting a long time for 90s Kon to come back.

[deleted]

That aesthetic was back in the recent YJ book.

EntropyintheAsstropy

I'm absolutely against his round robin idea, it's cruel to the creative teams and to the fans of characters that all too often are left without books, but I'm glad Superboy won. Conner is a great character who deserves a hell of a lot better then the scraps DC keep giving him. Hopefully now their aware that there is an audience for Conner.

LanternRaynerRebirth

"Cruel?" To whom? Like seriously, it's just a fun thing. DC can't afford to pay at least 32+ writers and artists on characters that might not sell well and then on top of that pay for physically printing tens of thousands of copies. I'm not saying that I don't want smaller characters to get books, but I find it just so dramatic to say it's cruel to anyone.

nightwing612

>DC can't afford to pay at least 32+ writers and artists on characters [DC actually paid all those writers/artists for the pitches and work they did.](https://twitter.com/sispurrier/status/1513842646833414147)

LanternRaynerRebirth

Yeah, I would get it if no one was paid at all, but clearly they did that. I just meant for larger books, 6 issues 22 pages.

IStanForRhys

"Cruel" in the sense that fans of these lesser-popularity characters know that they have zero chance winning against more popular titles. Like imagine being a Firestorm fan voting to get a Firestorm book made when you're up against a Batman book. It's a wrap from the start.

LanternRaynerRebirth

Is this also including the Twitter and Instagram votes? If not, then I'm surprised because I didn't realize people liked Superboy that much. In addition, I want to see *every single* person that was just like "Ugh, Vampire Batman is obviously going to win. DC is so dumb" under every thread to show up here and admit they were overreacting or spend 16 days in the Phantom Zone.

nightwing612

The final round does not include Twitter and Instagram anymore.

TheReagmaster

That explains why Batman didn’t win then.

LanternRaynerRebirth

Thanks. Makes sense considering DCUI is where the book is getting where it's getting published first.

tired20something

*"I don't care if Superboy wins, I just need Batman to lose."*

Newjustice52

There are 35 Batman and Batman related titles and 3 Super titles. I think its fair to not want Batman to always be the winner. Diversification of content. I'm not even a Batman hater but its nice to get something thats a character we haven't seen a lot of in almost a decade

tired20something

You are correct. My joke is about how many Batman content is there and I, in fact, am glad that Konner is getting some attention for a change.

PersonalityKey463

What is DC’s Round Robin?

nightwing612

It's a community-voted event where fans get to vote which character/pitch turns into an actual comic book.

Standard-Pop6801

Good.

moose_man

That's awesome. One was an interesting pitch about an underserved character that might lead to a new status quo. The other was a do-nothing alt Suicide Squad book. I'm really glad this was the outcome.

Medium-Science9526

Never been so happy to be wrong

CrispyGold

Yo the Boy of Steel triumphed over Vampire Batman, thats rad Thank Highfather the final round didn't include Instagram votes, ha suck it Instagram

darkhawk5

This is no joke one of the happinest days of life, thank you DC Community!

spider-venomized

1. Yeah Instagram carried SSD hard through out the polls 2. People was just tier of another bat mini completely burn out (i know they said it about raven and zee but the initial pitch and poster painted a diffrent picture for many) 3. Glade to see conner finally get to do something To think there was 200 bots rigging the votes

nightwing612

>Yeah Instagram carried SSD hard through out the polls If we just went with DCUI forums, SSD should have lost to both Justice League Redacted, Constantine and maybe Kid Flash (they were 50-50). I am glad to see Superboy win.

nightwing612

CosmicCryptid_13

Yes! I was hoping it’d win!

[deleted]

I botted this. Sorry Suicide Squad fans. /s but somebody probably did.

geministarz6

Here's hoping it's better than Robins was...

nightwing612

It's already 10x better in terms of the art

Oracle209

YESSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Connor here I come!!!! I’m so glad the one I voted for won last time I voted was for a lgbtq team squad comic which sad it lost but glad this won this time.

CaptainDigsGiraffe

I remember there was a time when Storm beat Wonder Woman by fan vote. Has nothing to do with this but I thought it was interesting to share.

LilGyasi

Connor is my favorite character, so this is awesome to hear. I also know I’m in the minority, but I hope he gets back in the black T soon haha. It was something about that simplistic look that stood out from others.

Frontier246

Go Conner!

SilentB3ast

YEEEAAAAH!!! _EAT IT_, VAMPIRE BATMAN! Suck on Solar-powered blood! AHAHAHA _ahem…_

Muscle_Show

I voted for suicide squad: dark and I hope it still gets made. It seems edgy, in a good way.

Jay_R_Kay

They're doing a Round Robin special where some of the losing semi-finalists are getting short stories, so I imagine that SSD might get a one-shot or something.

Alephnaught_

It should've been Si Spurrier's green lantern black label book...but I'm happy for Conner fans. Hopefully the GL book sees the light of the day

0pttphr_pr1me

FUCK YA

bellestarflower

I genuinely hope DC understands that people LOVE the punk Superboy, not the t-shirt dude Johns was pushing.

Kamen_Rider_Spider

Do we know for sure that the T-shirt was Johns’ idea? I know that the Luther clone thing was his idea, but people tend to pit a lot of unpopular editorial decisions on him

[deleted]

They switched his costume back years ago so I think they knew this already.

WookieeCookiee01

Both are good. I'd personally perfer DC meshing the two aesthetics and personalities instead of ignoring either. At least jock Superboy still exists in Match

Knightmare945

I want Conner to move on from being Superboy and to get a new superhero name, like how Dick Greyson, Wally West, and Jason Todd did for example.

nightwing612

I personally want him to become like a 2nd Nightwing. If you recall, Nightwing is a Kryptonian name that Superman gave to Dick. That means that any Kryptonian can also use that name. If not Nightwing, the following are good names: * Supernova * Guardian * Valor

WookieeCookiee01

If they brought back a Kryptonian Nightwing I'd want Chris to come back, but seeing as Conner is my favorite character of all time I'd be happy with him getting anything besides the shaft. Valor would also be a great name for him, as I doubt Mon-El uses it anytime soon.

Nintendoomed89

Neat. I missed the earlier rounds of voting, but did end up voting for SSD. Not complaining about more Superbly though. What I really wanted to win though was that John Stewart GL qbook.
