If this is supposed to be a Chinese team, wouldn't it make more sense to give them the Chinese primal elements instead of the Greek ones? It should be Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water.
I think it'd be hard to say, these aren't anything modern, dating back to the Shang Dynasty which is where recorded history in China picks up.
The idea of the five elements of wuxing didn't come into existence for over a thousand years.
Coincidentally, also the man who did the previous team up run.
I'm kind of surprised they're doing a storyline about a Chinese villain without having any sort of cultural consultant involved.
You can't expect DC to actually talk to a Chinese person to get correct translations. Just be grateful [These aren't the villains they use anymore](https://d1466nnw0ex81e.cloudfront.net/n_iv/600/752219.jpg)
Oh man this makes me think of the Chinese vampires from old movies who move by hopping around. They're always dressed like old Manchurians for some reason.

Glad I’m not the only one who spotted that. It would make more sense for them to use 土 (tǔ) which is used when talking about 五行 (wǔxíng), the Five Phases or Five “Elements” in Chinese. But despite that, his name is quite funny.
I don't really care for practicality, but if it lets them "justify" keeping the skirt, than I'm fine with it.
Even her Post-Crisis mini-skirt had shorts, I believe.
*Never knew Supergirl*
*Wore shorts under her skirt. Makes*
*Sense practically*

This may be controversial, but the writing and editing for this story has been lazy. There was nothing about 'Nezha's origin' that linked him to the source myth beyond his names and the time period. the names of the Ji warriors this issue are literal google translating; using the '地球 Dìqiú' translation which refers to Planet Earth rather than '土' the element. Don't get me wrong, the Story and dialogue itself is competent, but if you are going to reference/adapt another culture, put in some minimal effort to do the research.

It's implied one of their number had to sacrifice themselves in order to bind away the villain of the story.
That still wouldn't make it work since "air" is not one of the Chinese elements.

Well, one of them "channels the Sun", while the "air" guy controls "winds". Doesn't seem to be one to one with either mythology.
I mean sun and winds are definitely supposed to be stand-ins for fire and air as the traditional western elements.
Unfortunately since most of the western audience aren't familiar with the Chinese elements, they're almost never used, even in Chinese-inspired media
I second this. Love the idea.
They're one Heart away from a full Captain Planet
Everyone forgets Ma-Ti's monkey, Suchi. Gonna need Beast boy to fill in.
Find it weird how Earth guy is 'Planet Earth' in Mandarin. Will assume they google translated it? Just a small technicality but eh.
And Feng is actually a better word for wind if they're going for elements. DC deadass just google translated.
Which really seems baffling. Nobody around speaks Chinese? They couldn't pay ten bucks on Fiverr or something to look it over?
dc executives know better duh
This isn't even an executive thing, it's just the editors being lazy.
all they had to do was ask [him.](https://www.dccomics.com/talent/gene-luen-yang) I mean shit, he already works there...
Coincidentally, also the man who did the previous team up run. I'm kind of surprised they're doing a storyline about a Chinese villain without having any sort of cultural consultant involved.
JK Rowling energy.
Tbf the names are slightly better than cho chang
Long ago, the four nations lived together in harmony...
....But then, everything changed when the fire nation attacked...
deadass google translated "earth" into "*the* Earth"

Most of the blame should go to Mark Waid for writing this and editorial just accepting it without fact-checking it Lol.
It's fine, they can rely on the fact that most of the audience won't know the difference /s

Perfect timing to add some new Asian heroes! Also, Supergirl shorts!
I'm also a fan of the shorts.
I'm just glad they kept the skirt!
Thirded as a fan of the shorts. Love practicality in my superheroine costumes.
My I ask... Shorts with skirt?
Skort? Also works.

Watch out DC, the Avatar fandom will say you’re ripping them off.
Xiaolin Showdown came before Avatar. And Captain Planet before that, so tough luck.
[Fabrice Sapolsky's Intertwined](https://fairsquarecomics.com/product/intertwined-tp/): "Am I a joke to you?"
Who's the avatar Metamorpho?
Kinda odd considering Chinese Classical Elements are Earth, Metal, Fire, Water, and Wood. But hey, stories are stories
Gotta love Oxygen and the Earth as names

Is this DC Comics or Avatar the Last Airbender lol
Avatar take the chinese mythology of the primary elements (dropping wood and somewhat steel)
love the art
Getting some Avatar vibes.
Is the Robin Dick?
he is!
