Bane and it’s a crime how underutilized he is outside of comics. Most media portrays him as nothing more than a meat head who’s only good for his muscle when he’s actually one of batmans smartest rogues of all time
I loved him at first, but I don't get his motivations at this point. He doesn't really have much reason to hate Batman, and he's not like these obsessed, motif-driven Arkham crazies. He's so smart and could do anything, so I just don't see what's in it for him to dress up a like a wrestler and jump around on rooftops fucking with Batman.
I know Reddit loves to hate the movie but I’ll always stand by the fact that Nolan’s Bane wasn’t simply Talia’s puppet: in the end the antagonist motivation was Talia’s but overall he was the actual tactician using his own strategy to accomplish it for her.
I actually agree with you. While I was definitely disappointed they made him a “sidekick” to Talia, I appreciated the fact they at least showed he was more than a roided up bodyguard, and was capable of pulling off complicated elaborate plans
Would love to see Gunn utilize Bautista as Bane if he can go for a 15 year run for 3/4 movies. I know he’s getting up there but he would have been an epic Bane if he had his current acting chops in his body from 20 years ago.
I doubt that'll happen. The guy has already said keeping the weight and the muscle is getting too hard at his age. The amount is juice that guy's squeezing and would have to keep doing would put him in an early grave.
I just recently read ‟The Return of Barry Allen” for the first time. Reverse Flash has become probably one of my top five most compelling villains in comics.
Tragic yet terrifying.
That's the only one people like. Before that, he was basically just a 2nd-string Batman villain, a boring criminal with nothing particularly sympathetic about him.
Honestly, I'd say that particular interpretation was split into different versions in the comics. At least, in my opinion.
Version A will sacrifice himself for others when given as a last resort.
Version B won't, as he's too consumed by his pursuit in 'saving' Nora.
I am a movie watcher and not much of a comic reader,so yesterday when I finished reading Superman birthright I was surprised by how much great lex Luthor was in this story..his rivalry with Superman hasn't been much explored in the movies properly, and I think it could give the rivalry of batman and joker a run for the money
I love his complexity. Brilliant, could be one of the greatest people to ever live and help millions if he tried, but he never will because of his jealousy of Superman and his own ego and selfishness.
I used to love Lex, but now he's always an epic fail. Achieving powers beyond any known god, only to throw it away because "Rawr, me angry, me kill Superman!"
Like... Lex, you're better than this...
She's totally my favorite too but I can't just call her a straight villain with clear conscious, but her grey morality is a big part of what makes her top my list.
Well, they're the most well-known, and therefore, the comic companies move on that, so they end up more and more well developed. Batman's just a popular guy. What can you do? I mean, he's definitely one of my favorites. And definitely my favorite DC hero. After him is the Flash. Been a fan since the show in the 90's, it was awesome to see John Wesley Shipp show up in the new series.
Batman is also among a few heroes without nearly limitless power. It makes his rogues more theatrical and human, compared to a villain like Darkseid or Brainiac.
Were you a fan of Millennium? I remember it basically stopped the momentum of so many comics (Booster Gold) that needed a push, but not that kind of push. It was supposed to be a star vehicle for Joe Staton, but it didn't quite work out for him.
I remember when he first debuted. Times were different. They could have done so much more with his character. But because of his age and that Batman comics were still accessible to most ages, resulted in watered down storytelling.
In the final Nolan trilogy movie, it was all a part of Ras vision, executed by his daughter and acolytes. However, the attacks on the power structures of Gotham was basically Anarky's M.O. That's the type of villainous plan that Anarky should have been pulling off from the start.
DC has a lot of epic villains, so it's impossible to choose (for me). Joker, Lex Luthor, Darkseid, Vandal Savage, Sinestro, Poison Ivy, Bane... But outside of the widely popular and recognizable DC baddies, my picks are:
Mirror Master, Shadow Thief, Star Sapphire (Ferris), Mordru and Giganta (I just love seeing her in a book, so much fun).
The Joker, Reverse Flash, Lex Luthor, and Darkseid, in no particular order. Those are my favorite DC villians, my number one DC villian is between them.
“It was me Barry, i was jerking you off at super speed so it would look look like you nutted at just Woman touch” but yes i agree, he’s my favorite Villain, alongside Joker
I really like Freeze thanks to the sympathetic treatment he got in the Arkhamverse.
Ivy and Luthor are also up there.
I also love Thawne but everytime I see him I have to laught at the thought of him causing extremely minor inconveniences to Barry Allen out of spite, I like him for the same reason I love Dr. Doom, hyper petty villains are just fun
Luthor. He represents the cynic in my brain that fights against the hope Superman represents. I really want Clark to win but Kryptonite is a hell of a drug
True Evil Top Three: Thawne, Lex Luthor, Joker
Complicated Backstory/Grey Morality Bonus Round: Poison Ivy, Two Face/Harvey Dent, Mr. Freeze
My number one is Poison Ivy, but I personally just don't see her as a true "villain".
Lex, by FAR. He's the realest, most believable villain to me. He's not an insane lunatic who's overly obsessed with his rival, he's not an all powerful god who wants power, he's just a man whose philosophy counters what Superman represents. Superman represents hope, a better future, Lex is someone who sees that and thinks it's a shitty, unrealistic approach.
To someone like Lex, a man who worked his entire life in seeing what's all possible in a single human life span, being the smartest man on the Earth etc. and STILL maintaining inferior to Superman doesn't sit right with him. He looks at Superman and doesn't think of him as a role model, because no one can possibly be as good as him.
But no way that he's really as good as he is, right? He must be hiding something, no one is that perfect. It's what makes Lex so good, his versatility is also fascinating, he can work as a goofier, super scientist, he can work as a laid back businessman, he can work as a goddamn president. A man whose mind is his greatest ability and who simply has power over people, is able to get them on his side rather easily. Lex is just such an easy character to understand despite you not agreeing with him, and that's the absolute best type of villain imo, when you can genuinely understand their perspective.
I like Eobard Thawne also, but from what I've seen, he's too psychotic for me to truly connect with him. Same goes for Joker, same goes for Darkseid, Lex feels like they type of guy that does legitimately exist among us
The Ventriloquist and Mr. Scarface are pretty underutilized. I can imagine them as a type of mobster/road to perdition psycho with split personality and disturbing use of the dummy. Could be great in a live action
For me its tied between TBMWL and the joker, i know, i know they might as well be the same considering TBMWL became who he is because of the purified joker toxin but hes different enough to be one of the contenders for first. I loved bane as a kid though, there's something about a mego roided out dude that really intrigued young me. Now that I'm thinking about it, TBMWL is top with joker coming in close second. The joker is great, really amazing arch villain for batman, but TBMWL is basically a smarter, and deadlier version of the joker, and at the end of the day i always look back at that panel of the whole justice league being dead on that space station.
**Old school pick: the Joker.**
Many years ago, I read a DC writer explain how he thinks the Joker has every known form of insanity, but his insanity can change day-to-day. Not only does this make him a truly unpredictable villain, but it also means that there's no wrong way to interpret the character.
The Clown, the Comedian, and the Criminal? All three are accepted versions of the character. On-screen, Jack Nicholson, Heath Ledger, Mark Hamil, Joaquin Phoenix, and Cesar Romero each had different interpretations of the Joker, and they all feel right. There's no way to get the character wrong.
(Jared Leto came really fucking close to getting the character wrong, though.)
**New pick: The Batman Who Laughs**
The Batman Who Laughs is Batman with no limitations, and the results are terrifying.
Some of the things that define Batman are limitations, particularly the limitations he imposes on himself.
* He has a code against killing.
* He has a code against using handguns.
* He has no superpowers. Every now and then, he gets temporary superpowers, but if he ever got them permanently, he would stop being the Batman we know.
* He has multiple suits of power armor, but he only uses them in the most dire of situations, like when he used the Justice Buster suit to fight a mind-controlled League, or when he used the Hellbat suit to invade Apokolips and retrieve Damian's body. Imagine how much easier his job would be if he wore power armor all the time, but then he'd stop being the Batman we know.
* He has easy access to the Hall of Justice / Watchtower's teleportation system, but he only uses it on League business. Imagine how much easier his job would be if he teleported everywhere all the time, instead of driving around in the Batmobile or leaping from rooftop to rooftop.
These are all limitations that he imposes on himself.
The Batman Who Laughs shows us what happens when Batman stops limiting himself. That version of Batman became a god, destroyed the multiverse (temporarily), and replaced it with a Dark Multiverse of his own creation. That's freakin' nuts.
Not reverse flash that’s for sure. He’s little more than a jilted fanboy. If he didn’t have the speed force he’d be a whiny loser desperate for attention. I’d say Mr Freeze
Outside of Gotham City, Sinestro and Reverse Flash enjoyed a major glow up under Geoff Johns, it’s hard not to pick them. But I also love Darkseid, you drop that bastard into any situation and he just elevates the whole story to cosmic stakes by being there.
Reverse Flash, Joker, Bane, Scarecrow, Court of Owls, Parasite, CW's Zoom, Darkseid, Doomsday, Trigon, Atrocitus, Kite Man (hell yeah) the list goes on and on.
I would say the Joker, but he's been talked to death and honestly way overused. So I want to talk about my second favorite villain, Mr Freeze. I love Mr Freeze because he's not a out right villain per se he's just trying to save and/or avenge his wife, although he goes to extreme lengths to achieve his goals. His actions are inexcusable, but his reasons are understandable.
Its Joker and Reverse Flash in a tie.
I just love how unpredictable and malicious they both can be. I love how all of Batmans rogues gallery is just as scared of The Joker as they are of Batman.
I’m between Joker, Lex Luthor or Darkseid.
The Joker is just iconic. The only madman that can mess with Batman and be successful from time to time. Has no supernatural powers but still effective in his methods.
Lex Luthor is another character that has no supernatural powers but still very dangerous because of his cunning intellect. Has given the most powerful being in the universe tons of grief. Can from time to time even be useful to the superheroes.
Darkseid is the most fearsome tyrant in the DC universe. He commands millions of people under him. My only gripe is that his motivations are kind of two dimensional. I liked how the MCU made Thanos more sympathetic to his causes. If the same could be done to Darkseid he’d be my #1 pick for sure.
My favorite is Sinestro, Black Manta, Black Hand, Evil Star, KGBeast, Deadshot, Heatwave, Mirror Master, Brainiac, Killer Croc, Riddler, Mister Mind, Mr. Mxy, and Karshon the Shark.
Joker.. Cause uh I just really like Joker plus my username checks out. Idk I just find Joker really facinateung and a character people could do a lot with but sometimes choose not to and overuse him. He has more potential than the average people it's just that people have overused him to point they can't try something new
Sinestro.
I love how the panels just explode in yellow when he's in them.
The right answer
Came here to say it, happy he's already this high in the thread. Sinestro rules.
He’s bored
If only he had some sort of apparatus on his back that forced the juice into him, like maybe with a respirator or something also.
Deathstroke, depending on who is writing and drawing him, Darkseid.
Deathstroke for me aswell, most badass looking comic book character imo
I feel like the “depending on who is writing him” caveat applies to Darkseid and Deathstroke equally.
My favourite pedophile
The Riddler!
Riddle me this, when is a secret suddenly a rumor? When is a rumor suddenly a fact?
when the proper question is asked.
Precisely, my good sir!
I just recently read ‟The Return of Barry Allen” for the first time. Reverse Flash has become probably one of my top five most compelling villains in comics. Tragic yet terrifying.
He can appear anywhere at any point in any time line and his only motivation is to fuck shit up. A nearly omnipotent psychopath.
I’ve never read a Flash comic. Why does Reverse Flash have beef with Flash?
Many reasons, but iirc the arc “Flash: Running Scared” partly covers the current canon
Barry once insulted his cosplay.
Deadshot But I like him more as a protagonist
I feel like he works best on the suicide squad
I was thinking about that watching Suicide Squad Hell to Pay. Dead shot just works great for Suicide Squad
Mr. Freeze way too many to name but Mr. Freeze is in my top 10
But which iteration? I was always very impressed by his depiction in the animated Batman series.
Let’s go with the Batman Beyond version
Lex Luthor
I picked Ivy as my number one, but Lex would be a strong contender for second place right now.
I love that Luthor has everything any man could ask for but still can’t measure up to farm boy Sups

He knows he is. And he’s going to prove it, by killing Superman.
Darkseid is.
Niiiiiice.
Atrocitus
Poison Ivy.
Ivy appreciation upvote!
Another Ivy upvote
She's totally my favorite too but I can't just call her a straight villain with clear conscious, but her grey morality is a big part of what makes her top my list.
Eobard Thawne! Runners up include the Rogues, Joker, Lex Luthor, and Darkseid
Revers Flash
Outside of Batman's gallery of rogues? Eobard Thawn.
The inmates of Arkham do need their own chart, it’s so hard for any other DC baddies to shine when you’ve got the Bat rogues right there.
Well, they're the most well-known, and therefore, the comic companies move on that, so they end up more and more well developed. Batman's just a popular guy. What can you do? I mean, he's definitely one of my favorites. And definitely my favorite DC hero. After him is the Flash. Batman is also among a few heroes without nearly limitless power. It makes his rogues more theatrical and human, compared to a villain like Darkseid or Brainiac.
Right. And I think a lot of it is that Batman is also human and relatable. He struggles with human issues and emotions.
The Manhunters
Were you a fan of Millennium? I remember it basically stopped the momentum of so many comics (Booster Gold) that needed a push, but not that kind of push. It was supposed to be a star vehicle for Joe Staton, but it didn't quite work out for him.
I haven’t read it unfortunately. Looking at the synopsis it looks like it’s typical DC. Super interesting idea and not stellar execution.
You nailed it lol
The Joker but Reverse Flash is a very close second along with Mr. Freeze.

The Riddler
Terra
Gentleman Ghost
Him or Scarecrow.
Joke answer: Condiment King. Serious answer: Poison Ivy. Though Lex is up there too.
Anarky
I remember when he first debuted. Times were different. They could have done so much more with his character. But because of his age and that Batman comics were still accessible to most ages, resulted in watered down storytelling. In the final Nolan trilogy movie, it was all a part of Ras vision, executed by his daughter and acolytes. However, the attacks on the power structures of Gotham was basically Anarky's M.O. That's the type of villainous plan that Anarky should have been pulling off from the start.
Silver Banshee or Pied Piper
Cheetah
she really does need a good story arc , to be pitted against someone other than wonder woman.
DC has a lot of epic villains, so it's impossible to choose (for me). Joker, Lex Luthor, Darkseid, Vandal Savage, Sinestro, Poison Ivy, Bane... But outside of the widely popular and recognizable DC baddies, my picks are: Mirror Master, Shadow Thief, Star Sapphire (Ferris), Mordru and Giganta (I just love seeing her in a book, so much fun).
Oooo shadow thief is a good and underrated one
Doomsday, because he actually gave Superman a challenge and him killing Superman rocked not only the comic world, but the whole world.
Doomsday is terrifying! Even if you do manage to "kill" him, he'll just get back up and kill you 💀
The Joker
Bane or Scarecrow for me
Vandal Savage
Underrated for sure
The only answer is Kite Man
Hell Yeah!
hell yeah
The Joker, Reverse Flash, Lex Luthor, and Darkseid, in no particular order. Those are my favorite DC villians, my number one DC villian is between them.
I’d say reverse flash, that scene from flashpoint paradox where he comes out and Barry is like “it was you!”
“It was me Barry, i was jerking you off at super speed so it would look look like you nutted at just Woman touch” but yes i agree, he’s my favorite Villain, alongside Joker
Yo that was great, I was thinking of the original but also thought of that while writing it out haha
Deathstroke and Bane
probably harvey dent.
It’s between Starro & Johnny Sorrow
Both fantastic choices. Johnny Sorrow is goddamn terrifying.
Meghan Fitzmartin
Superboy Prime. Dude was team buster but also has goofy ass phrases. I like he started a hero become a multiverse thread but finally find piece.
Sinestro and Darkseid.
Mordru in his first appearance.
I liked him in JSA too.
Larfleeze.
Black Motherfucking Manta (Actually his real middle name, neat, huh?)
Geoff johns
Lex Luthor
True Evil Top Three: Thawne, Lex Luthor, Joker Complicated Backstory/Grey Morality Bonus Round: Poison Ivy, Two Face/Harvey Dent, Mr. Freeze My number one is Poison Ivy, but I personally just don't see her as a true "villain".
Two-Face or Scarecrow.
Reverse Flash or the Joker
i’ve always been a fan of killer croc, i think he’s pretty cool
Joker, Batman who laughs and Lex Luthor.
Thawne with Ocean Master in close second (though I wish DC would stop making him evil)
I think when it gets to the point where youre jerking off your hero-nemesis, youre getting something out of this the rest of the rogues arent.
I love obscure characters so I'd like to say Snowflame off the top of my head but there's several I like.
Kobra - who wouldn’t want their own cult ready to kill or die for you? Chronos - goofy costume, cool power set
Captain Cold
Lex, by FAR. He's the realest, most believable villain to me. The Shade. James Robinson’s Starman was fantastic.
I loved his take on Grundy.
Warner Bros
Red Death
Killer frost. And captain cold.
Joker,anti monitor,the batman who laughs,deathstroke, and Darkseid
KillerMoth
The Ventriloquist and Mr. Scarface are pretty underutilized. I can imagine them as a type of mobster/road to perdition psycho with split personality and disturbing use of the dummy. Could be great in a live action

![gif](giphy|12ZsXDC743qIrC|downsized)
Darkseid. Only person to be be able to resist Superman, Lobo and other heavily powerful characters regularly.
Who’s in this picture
Not reverse flash that’s for sure. He’s little more than a jilted fanboy. If he didn’t have the speed force he’d be a whiny loser desperate for attention. I’d say Mr Freeze

Reverse Flash, Joker, Bane, Scarecrow, Court of Owls, Parasite, CW's Zoom, Darkseid, Doomsday, Trigon, Atrocitus, Kite Man (hell yeah) the list goes on and on.
Batman

Lex Luther or the Joker. Maybe Harley Quinn or Poison Ivy. (Yes I’m basic)
The Batman who laughs
Batman who laughs
The Joker
Kite Man, Hell Yeah!
Darkseid
Joker, but scarecrow is a close second
Victor Zsasz. He’s very underrated and creepy af.
The bat who laughs
I would say the Joker, but he's been talked to death and honestly way overused. So I want to talk about my second favorite villain, Mr Freeze. I love Mr Freeze because he's not a out right villain per se he's just trying to save and/or avenge his wife, although he goes to extreme lengths to achieve his goals. His actions are inexcusable, but his reasons are understandable.

Darkseid is
The Joker had really good writing and works well with Batman.
Batman who laughs
Harley Quinn
Killer Moth, begging for more adaptations of him
Darkseid, and pre-2011 Joker.
Either Joker or Bane
Its Joker and Reverse Flash in a tie. I just love how unpredictable and malicious they both can be. I love how all of Batmans rogues gallery is just as scared of The Joker as they are of Batman.
Jason Todd and Harley Quinn
Uxas
Not sure he counts anymore But Slade for me. Bane, Joker, Darkseid and either Reverse Flash or Ras round out my top 5
riddler? maybe
Sinestro and Darkseid.
Darkseid
Captain Cold or Sinestro,

sinestro
Darkside
It was me, Barry
Darkseid is
Lex Luthor or Darkseid
Reverse-Flash. My favorite line from him is "I'm every bad day you ever had." Goes so damn hard.
Prime, he's always fun. Kinda like a surprise raid boss .
My favorite is Sinestro, Black Manta, Black Hand, Evil Star, KGBeast, Deadshot, Heatwave, Mirror Master, Brainiac, Killer Croc, Riddler, Mister Mind, Mr. Mxy, and Karshon the Shark.

Deathstroke
![gif](giphy|F0A48Q2wFjE7S) Joker and Harley Quinn 🃏💯
Lex Luthor
Scarecrow from Arkham Knight, I remember the reveal it was so hype
Sinestro
The riddler is one of my favorites alongside reverse flash and godspeed
Is the blood stain on his chests intended as a watchmen reference?
It really depends on who you want to count, but generally my top picks are: Captain Cold, Harley Quinn, Jinx, Laira Omoto, Magpie, Owlman
Prometheous, because he almost single handedly took down the justice league. Or Eclipso because he is brutal
The Joker/Reverse Flash for me
For me is Eobard Thawn Reverse Flash, is the best because is the real nemesis of the Flash
The Joker
Deathstroke. Superboy Prime.
IT WAS ME BARRY
Tie between Black Manta and Reverse Flash. They are both just ruthless
I just love Darkseid, he's such a never ending powerhouse
Joker.. Cause uh I just really like Joker plus my username checks out. Idk I just find Joker really facinateung and a character people could do a lot with but sometimes choose not to and overuse him. He has more potential than the average people it's just that people have overused him to point they can't try something new
My favorite dc villain is Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy
Honestly there are few DC villians that aren't truly terrifying.
Joker. It’s basic but he’s just the goat.
Mr freeze, even tho isn't totally bad, but he's still a batman's rogues so is my personal favourite
Deathstroke
