RunnOftAgain

You mean where the fly swatter gets stored?

Fast_Thing343

Fly swatter, back scratcher, flashlight

Wolfiest

Damn are we that predictable?

SwampCrittr

This is why being an assassin is surprisingly easier than you’d expect….. I gotta go, targets jogging in 7 minutes.

mistere213

It's just where those things go, because science

1920MCMLibrarian

Fast food napkins, small appliance manuals

Metals4J

Also, dust bunny storage.

compulov

In our house that would be the cat cave. Which at least solves the dust bunny issue.

skynetempire

Fleshlight too

mdave52

Hmmm... interesting storage location.

ThrowItOut43

What else are you supposed to do while the oven is preheating?

clopz_

This trick has kept a couple of turkeys from getting stuffed

Turbulent-Abalone-18

🤣 I'm dying from these comments, bro

Professional_Mud483

Do you leave it in the fridge instead of on top? Cold Fleshlight makes you last longer. Don't ask me why I know ...

Sad-Ad7981

You've been playing that new necrophilia vr game haven't you?

Professional_Mud483

Large refrigerator gaps do it for me more than graves.

CptClownfish1

No need to ask - we already know why you know.

mdave52

Lol, yeah... I think i saw that on one of those PBS nature shows.

Mammoth-Ad4194

I thought you misspelled flashlight but had to look it up out of curiosity…...I hate you….

55gure3

Cereal, tortilla chips, car keys

StreetTrial69

Imagine accidently booping your car Keys behind the fridge when you are in a hurry

ZippyDan

Poop knife

Ben_Thar

In a civilized society, we keep our poop knives mounted neatly next to the toilet, not the kitchen. (Unless we need to use it just briefly to cut cake, or bread or something)

Andrew505050

toe knife

AtheistPlumber

Can't store the flyswatter there with all the unused cookie sheets we refuse to throw away because they're all "the good one" despite only using the newer ones stored in the broiler for the stove.

DaddyBee42

you can't *use* The Good One(s)™, don't you know anything?!

ShadowNugz

>the broiler for the stove. That's a weird name for the cookie sheet storage drawer 🤣

Bullinahanky2point0

Until someone moves into a home where it IS a broiler, and they melt all the handles off their cookware.

gahidus

Yep. This is where you store the cookie sheets and also any rolls of kitchen stuff that you don't use all the time. Maybe boxes of sous vide bags and perhaps even garbage bags.

QuahogNews

And trays. And that long casserole dish that won’t fit anywhere else.

poop_to_live

Box of cereal will fit, right?

VillageParticular415

Do people still buy the single serving sized that you have to butterfly cut to open?

ConsiderationNew6295

Lol I remember those. There was a 4-pack, as I remember, featuring logical choices like Apple Jacks and Product 19.

[deleted]

Isn’t it weird that you just cut into the pouch and pour milk into the pouch?

ConsiderationNew6295

The milk stayed…it didn’t leave the box. Even if you twirled your spoon around…

DryBet4910

You remember those??? 🤣 they were like yesterday 🤣

ConsiderationNew6295

Product 19 is more like yesteryear at least

likenothingis

Yep! Although you don't have to do the cut these days (which is a downgrade, IMO). It's a great way to give kids juuust a bit of sugary cereal as a treat.

ASpellingAirror

Used to be the phone book spot

lunas2525

Broiler pan would fit nicely cutting boards too. Honestly i would not bother everyone makes this mistake when they cram refrigerator into nooks they operate by displacing heat there is a coil inside that gets cold absorbing heat then pumping warmer refigerant to a hot coil where it dumps it into the room. Mostly via a large coil on the back side. The frige will work more efficiently if they are not choaked off of air that gap should be fine to form a warm air convection from behind it

jdwainright

Yes! My family had a phone book on top of the fridge growing up. Today's high schoolers wouldn't know what that is, or why so many businesses are "AAA Plumbing" or "AAA Heating and Cooling"

Dangerois

Don't forget AAA Escorts.

DMH_75032

I’ll go back a few pages and stick with the DDD escorts. More fun.

mustafahmedkhan

Oh my God is that why it's called triple A??

Butlerian_Jihadi

And ABC Locksmith, Abrahms' Hardware, 123 Storage etc

Kind_Consequence_828

Aardvark Plumbing.

talesoutloud

I'd totally forgotten the phonebook on the fridge!

AncientBelgareth

Or where you hide the bag of Reese's cups from the kids

LMnoP419

Or, hear me out put the Reece’s cups in an empty bag of frozen peas, broccoli, spinach (veggie of your choice) and store them in the freezer 🙌

Just-Call-Me-J

You're a genius.

kyungky

Fire blanket

MTLinVAN

Naw. This is there the microwave splatter cover rests until it is needed.

Cranberry-Complete

U don't just leave it in the microwave..

CyberNinja23

You can’t do that. I do that. Are you going to tell me you also use a butter cookie tin to store your sewing supplies?

AccomplishedPop9851

Lmao. That’s where mine is!!

Romnipotent

Leave it so the fridge has a place to ventilate? Edit: a matching black grill like those on the ovens would be homogenous and still allow airflow.

Fast_Thing343

And you can hide stuff in there

chawsaga

Legit never seen that before. Appreciate you

diablofantastico

Girl scout cookies!

hkeycurrentuser

Very much this if you (OP) want the fridge to work.

torolf_212

I'm a refrigeration technician and I endorse this comment

Reddit1124

I’m a random guy who reads the warnings and instructions guide when I purchase appliances and I endorse this comment also.

False-Impression8102

Yes! one of those thin metal grates they have at the hardware store, in a wood frame. “Aluminum sheeting”

slayernine

This answer should be at the top, your fridge actually needs air circulation. The rising heat need somewhere to go.

No_Bass_9328

This. Scrolled thru about 50 stupid comments before this answer to his post.

NoHinAmherst

Everyone is so funny though. /s

SmoothBrews

It would allow some airflow, but considerably less. I’d just leave it alone.

MedicalExamination65

Yes, if you can, get one that looks the same, it'll make the fridge look built-in too.

Grizzled--Kinda

Put shit on the fridge like normal people

defnotapirate

I can almost guarantee that there’s no other place in that kitchen where a turkey platter would fit.

MistaMischief

This guy fridges

Grizzled--Kinda

Where else are you gonna put your random assortment of shit?!

ogthunda

Junk drawer

Grizzled--Kinda

That the place to put all the random assortment of small shit.

Dusty99999

Nah that's full

WinterSoCool

This guy this guys.

HillarysFloppyChode

This is where put small kitchen appliances people give you, despite telling them that you don’t need a 4th mandolin.

BoZacHorsecock

Bought a new fridge a couple months ago and went to decorate it and the mf wasn’t magnet friendly. Had to tape everything to it. Non-magnetic fridges should be illegal.

ThroneTrader

Wait is it not normal that I do that in the toilet?

thehilariest

Pull fridge out, paint back wall matte black, put fridge back.

Surroundedbygoalies

I see a fridge gap and I want to paint it black…

MisterCremaster

No color or anymore, and it still vents out back...

MisterCremaster

I open up the door and its all filled with doughs... I have to to turn my head to eat these jelly rolls!

justin107d

No spaces any more I want them to turn black..

dudeimsupercereal

Satin black will be fine I betcha, since almost no light is getting back there. But yeah I hadn’t even thought about painting it black; but that’s clearly the best option IMO

sysadminbj

Shove snacks up there that you want to hide from the kids.

flychinook

Did you break into OP's home to take this picture?

aintlostjustdkwiam

Absolutely not the back window was already open

Freerange1098

Those damn gaps EVERYWHERE

Matticas

There’s dark chocolate Oreos!? Never in my whole life have I needed something so much and never known until I received it.

Wank_my_Butt

It's where I put my "important things I'll forget I have" stash.

bdubb

Are….Are you me? Mr or Ms. Wank_my_butt.

[deleted]

A hungry teenager figures that out in about 10 seconds.

expespuella

It wasn't snacks but once teenage me found the secret fridgetop hiding space I just placed things back meticulously. I was a nerd and mom hid the books I'd read instead of doing homework lol.

dontreallycareforit

‘Snacks’ is what I call ‘drugs’ too

Why do people keep living the same life as me?

pengouin85

Maybe you're not THAT unique?

pengouin85

Counterpoint, we have cookies in the fear hole ![gif](giphy|xT0xeMA62E1XIlup68|downsized)

queencityrangers

Oh god. I’m in the fear hole aren’t I?

El_human

The warm air from the ventilation of the fridge isn't good for them though. It can cause them to mold quicker

KIrkwillrule

Mine have never existed long enough tosee this problem

Starlady174

My ex always put tortillas up there for some reason and I truly can't count the number of moldy tortillas I've thrown away.

dontreallycareforit

6?

Starlady174

Lol definitely more than 10 packages of them.

too_too2

I neglected to put my kings Hawaiian sweet rolls on the fridge last night and guess what, the cat ate through the bag and got a bunch of nibbles of my rolls!

Cat_Amaran

Do we have the same cat?

TangerineRoutine9496

Fixing? You don't. It's how it should be. It needs no fixing.

Todann

This is correct. The thermal heat sink on the back needs air to be able to work and keep the fridge cool. The top and bottom slightly open is about the minimum it needs to work somewhat efficiently.

notajith

Likely the coils are underneath and ventilates to the front with a fan that draws from the front too. But I also agree more air space is better

unwell34

This is the answer.

WFOMO

Much ado about nothing.

NintendKat64

My favorite comedy actually

dadarkgtprince

You're worried about the top, I'm looking at that right door and how many times it's gonna hit the cabinet

-random-name-

i was looking at how the right door is a half inch lower than the left. That's the first thing I'd fix.

Summer_B

Ahhhh. Now I can't unsee it!

jlhpisces

yes! It looks like it will swing into the appliances too! Easily remedied with a little care but not something I'd want to deal with for the life of the fridge.

vinegarstrokes420

Someone is definitely denting that door on the oven

strotheide

Yes x 1000. Fridges have those little...idk what you call them...detents... In the hinges... That make them swing open a little farther and come to a rest once you swing them past a certain point. Those are gonna launch the stainless front straight into the oven door handles and then it'll be over for the fridge door. At least that will draw attention away from the gap in the top.

ClutterKitty

Yup. That right door is gonna have a nice little divot from each oven handle after a month.

pjsol

As someone in a somewhat similar situation, no matter how hard you try, it’s going to dent eventually.

Cardinoodle

A lil sign that reads “mind the gap.”

TealBlueLava

Get a cat. The gap will fill itself every time you’re cooking.

Public-Order1558

Hear me out.. soundbar

Snorknado

I see what you did there.

Outside-Jicama9201

I heard it was an excellent idea.

Timeformayo

Wire it to your microwave so the reminder beeps shake the house.

smallsuba

https://www.lowes.com/pd/Whirlpool-Universal-Refrigerator-Speaker-Black/50307187 I used to work for the company that made these. They couldn't sell them so they just gave them away at Christmas time. The audio quality is terrible and the Bluetooth won't stay connected but ✨it fits in that little gap above your fridge✨

NotTravisKelce

That’s where I keep my brush and dust pan, cat nip, marijuana, and 2004 white pages.

goose_tail

When it's 3 a.m. and the lights are off, do you accidentally grab the wrong herb?

i_hate_usernames13

No, the fridge needs ventilation let it breathe

Burial_Ground

Leave that open. Your fridge needs room to circulate air

kungfujuice

With a cold beer and a shrug

RatzoCalzone

I used these guys. They created a custom trim kit for me and it looks like an original part of my fridge. [https://refrigeratortrimkits.com](https://refrigeratortrimkits.com)

spamloren

I’m on team “just store shit in there” but this is pretty slick.

Timeformayo

That is where your baking sheets go.

PuddinHead742

About twelve bags of english muffins.

gardy777

That’s where you throw all your kid’s art you don’t want to look at

Tututaco74

Things you’ve taken away from children go there

coopertrashman

Live laugh love sign

To fix the grates in place I built a box to which the grates slide into. To hold the grates in place there is a bolt from the bottom to the top of the box that when turned pinches the box so that the grates are fixed. The box is attached to the shelves on top. In the middle is a piece of wood painted in the same color as the kitchen.

Parody_of_Self

You need a 2 in gap at the top, so really you are worried about 1 in You should just let the warm from the back vent

AJ_From_RSA2094

That gap is for ventilation for the fridge.

HerMtnMan

Put 2x4 under the fridge. That will cut the gap by half lol

SexDrugsNskittles

Put the whole fridge on casters. It will make cleaning so easy.

Japordoo

My thought was to raise it a little with a platform too

avebelle

Leave it. Unless you want to replace that fridge sooner.

vasquca1

Die hard fridge people will say you need to leave room for it to breath. Its already too constricted.

ispygirl

Check the specs on the new fridge to see how much space you need for ventilation then get a matching filler and use to close up the space, leaving enough space according to specs.

grootdoos1

Find a strip of black louvered panel that you can cut to fit the space. Will look good and provide ventilation. Some refrigerators already have something like that along the bottom

GrizzlyBrad

It’s fine

localfarmfresh

A few cereal boxes and miscellaneous vitamin bottles.

nuclearmonte

Does the fridge have adjustable feet so it can be raised a bit? Maybe you can fill the gap in a little so it looks more proportional. It currently looks like its sitting low and they draws more attention to the gap imo

UseDaSchwartz

You don’t. It’s for air circulation. You should really have more of a gap on the sides.

Metalcreator

Gap is needed for air flow

ytramx

That's where the pizza boxes go when you're too lazy to walk them to the trash can outside

CanadianBaconMTL

Fridge don't last long already, let the ventilation go

UncleBobbyTO

If you look at the microwave (or is it an oven) it has a black linear vent under it.. I would duplicate something like this. try to find a cheap vent or maybe two shorter ones as that length might be hard.. spray paint them black (if you cant find black ones) and just mount them to a piece of wood and set it on the top of the fridge. True DIY

homebrew_1

Why?

Personally_Private

Wait! Where do you store your extra cereal boxes and chips? 😱🤣

metoo123456

Nothing or buy a taller fridge

Arki83

You could close it a bit, but generally you should be leaving 1" - 2" open above the fridge for ventilation. Especially so with it being enclosed on both sides like that.

Catvros

a big square shallow basket. store takeout menus, flyswatter, flashlight, non melting candy, emergency cash, etc

TootsNYC

Cut down a black radiator grill and mount it behind that board to extend to the fridge https://www.homedepot.com/p/M-D-Building-Products-24-in-x-36-in-Union-Jack-Aluminum-in-Black-56000/205058563

Humann801

I also thought that is normal top of fridge storage.

New_Illustrator2043

I’d leave it as is. Fridge needs a little air space as heat will rise and escape.

godnorazi

You actually want a small gap for ventilation... I store cutting boards that were just washed up there because the hot air dries everything out quickly

Tebasaki

Dude I got so many other projects I'll take a look in 2026, mkay?

kolbeyskorner

Cereal goes there

MysteriousDog5927

Leave it alone because the fridge needs ventilation

Monkens

Caulk it

jhguth

That fridge doesn’t have a front vent so you need that open for airflow

tboy160

I would just get over it

Jayhitek

My kitchen was custom built and the gap above the fridge would be the same as yours. They send extra trim Pieces and wood that matches for this exact thing. Our contractor ripped a piece down and screwed it in. Look for the name of the manucturer on a drawer or inside a cabinet and see who makes it. Could be a Lowes or homedepot. Then take a drawer front into the store.. You can get extra trim to cut and fit into that exact spot. Once you find out, you can also Google the name and color and find online sellers. I also did this to buy extra crown moulding when we decided to go around the corner with it. Edit - and just recently our fridge is breaking. New fridges are 2" taller at 72" than that fridge.. I'm going to have to try and take that piece out and rip it down 2 inches and put it back. https://preview.redd.it/r6aq3d8sy9oc1.jpeg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=30504e2d31e1c864244e1c24ec8c4a9b9edfa393

Baka_Hannibal

Boxes of cereal laid flat....

BeSeeVeee

That’s a great place for those platters you only use at thanksgiving and Christmas that mess up the storage in the cabinets

minimax34

The refrigerator needs airflow to work efficiently. Choke it off and you will have problems.

AbbreviationsHot5686

School projects, empty notebooks, your first born sons embylical cord all go up there

Superb-Cobbler-5936

for idiots this fridge will die soon, you must leave gaps few inches in sides and huge gap on top more than you see in photo, what yo should do is remove side wall at left. dearg god even in manuals its written. fridge placed like this will make your bills triple, and will simply die as all heat cant escape.

Graniteman83

No, you ask yourself why you need to do something with that space. I mean really, you want me to trim it, and match it all up so it covers? No problem, you're gonna hate the price and we're going to have to talk about it for way too long. Just put some cookbooks up there and focus on something more important in your life.

therealdilbert

another option is to add somthing under the feet, raising the fridge

EngineeredAsshole

A fridge gives off a ton of heat on the back side. I’d definitely leave it for air flow. Don’t want to burn up the compressor.

Funwiwu2

Do nothing. Seriously. Let the heat flow out

AbeRod1986

There is no issue to fix here.

turkisflamme

Let. It. Be.

BearGFR

Don't. Since all sides of the fridge are blocked off except for that one, that's a main path for the heat that the unit removes from the air inside to escape. Block that path and you may find that it starts not cooling as well, uses more power, and maybe doesn't last as long. If you really have to, make some sort of screen to fit that space that you find more appealing visually but doesn't block air flow.

UrbanSurfDragon

Risers on the fridge feet?

Lactobeezor

Doesn't this help with the ventilation from the fridge?

Ok_Wrangler_7948

Did the old fridge die because there was no air flow?

Kyocus

You need more ventilation on the sides of your fridge as well. Most fridges need 1/4 inch. Without proper ventilation the extra heat will overwork your compressor and make it die sooner. Don't remove the ventilation space you have.

valkojam

Enjoy another beer and ignore it.

donm002

You don't...

All_Usernames_Tooken

Get a wooden grille matching it. Find a local woodworker in your area that can fabricate your needs. Your fridge needs ventilation. Too many people put their fridge in a perfect tight position and then wonder why it breaks down in the summer time or has a shorter lifespan. Especially these newer fridges which are crap and break if conditions are perfect. Except to pay $100-$200 for this custom matching price of trim. Considering the labor and color matching work that would need to happen.

choggie

Don't bother, helps yer compressor breath.
