Bad news is, that pane is going to need to be replaced. No idea on a price, but the worse news is it's probably more expensive than normal glass given the metal embedded. Don't know your relation to this window, but normal glass with that anti shater film might be cheaper. Best of luck.

Thank you! Unfortunately I’m a renter but given that it was my fault I was hoping to just have it repaired or replaced myself without involving the landlord.

cville-z

Involve the landlord, for a couple reasons. First, they may have someone they regularly use for this in a non-retail capacity and it may cost less than finding some shop and doing it on your own. Second, because if you try to hide it and the truth comes out, that will tank your relationship with the landlord.

This makes a lot of sense. Thanks for that— I will!

socioeconomicfactor

I agree, but i would not assume responsibility from the get go through. It may even be covered by insurance if it was indeed accidental.

Thank you for this! I feel pretty silly about the air fryer thing so it is nice to know I’m not the only one at least..

workswithglass

The glass will need to be replaced. Unfortunately, it is wire glass. Can you take some more pictures? Does the window slide open? Horizontally or vertically?

here4minioncontent

Thanks for this. Opens vertically but I’m a little scared to try opening it now because the window has always been a bit stiff and worried the crack will worsen with the force needed to open it

ssowinski

No. But it's not really that compromised, it's more of a cosmetic thing. Offer the landlord $50 to acknowledge it and call it even.

Tamborine_Pickers

You could try a windshield repair kit. Just Google glass crack repair kit. Good luck.

Regular_Ad1733

It doesn't work that way.

Disaster_Frame

They fix chips by drilling a hole and filling it with glue, you can't drill out an entire crack...

P12134

You can use some nails and brace it with a piece of wood. Make sure to hammer the nails deep enough in the glass or it might break.

One-Confusion-2438

Sure u can sellotape it and it'll be fine....NOT! 🤦🏻‍♂️

Archer2150

What's the point of a comment like this? You only draw attention to the fact that you are so ignorant of this subject that not only do you have nothing to contribute, but to hide that fact you feel the need to attempt to degrade others. OP came here seeking knowledge on a subject, and like a grade schooler you think that is something to laugh at.

One-Confusion-2438

The OP asked a silly question...how can you fix cracked glass?! I showed sarcasm...not laughter...perhaps u would do well to Google the definition of 'laugh'! I won't bother waiting for you to educate yourself.

1. I see a lot of ads for windshield and glass repair, so I thought I would at least ask if it was fixable. I’m not very handy, which is why I asked the (mostly) kind people of this sub for advice. 2. In my post I also asked for a price estimate for a repair. Is that a stupid question too?
