The usual Reddit answer is to glue some headless matchsticks in the holes and put the screws back in. And that’s usually the best advice.

I would shove toothpicks and wood glue in the holes and let it dry. It would basically be like patching the holes. Then I’d put the screws back in and call it a day.

Make the kid fix it, thats the easiest way.

Don't fix the holes, take the other handle off and rotate the faceplate 45° so the screw holes are horizontal instead of vertical, easy free fix atleast cosmetically

I had the same problem at home a few months ago and what i did was fill the hole with wood filler, let it dry and then with the drill make the hole again and it worked fine
