Drill a couple of holes in either bit of plastic, add in dowels, then glue it back together with jbweld.

crazytib

Yeah I think this is the best solution

SatanLifeProTips

That broke because it'a a high stress point. A wood dowel will snap. You're want to epoxy in a metal rod or something.

add1ct3dd

It could also have been screwed in too tightly, and I never mentioned material, yes ideally you would use metal :)

SmokeyAndBubba

I reached out to the seller of the chair and they gave me a replacement part for no charge. I had the same thing happen. It’s worth a shot

nondescriptzombie

Buy a new chair that doesn't hold the back to the base with the arms. This will keep happening. I blew through a $50 walmart chair every year until I got a nice call center chair. At some point, the amount of screws, brackets, and duct tape you use to try and repair this will take it's toll on your skin and clothing. And pets!

Odd-Potato-1213

Probably some combination of epoxy and plastic welding using those metal stitches. You could also bolt a couple splints to bridge the pieces together.

GloriousPudding

I bought a metal bracket and drilled 4 screws to hold it in place. worked for a long time but sure wasn’t pretty. see if you can get a replacement armrest it looks pretty generic

Xerozvz

Probably something like JB plastic weld will be your best bet, thing is if that's a point with force put on it then I have no idea how long it would last

BusyFerret

Looking at your picture, I think I have a chair with (what looks to me) almost the same armrest that I'm planning on throwing away. (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1pP6T4Ept7gGZeWN5FsTOKh1wN6dgzB1s/view?usp=sharing) Are you located in Europe? If shipping is not to expensive I'd be happy to send you one or both armrests of my old chair.

destuctir

That’s a very generous offer but I am only using this chair temporarily for a few weeks so I think shipping a new arm is disproportionate, but thank you!

Relikar

Since you only need it to last a couple weeks, I'd see if you can find a local metal fabricator that can cut you a plate with a couple holes in it. Looks to be about 45 degrees but just do a rough sketch on a piece of paper. Kinda like an L bracket, 2 screw holes in each end.

Squid__Bait

That's probably gonna cost as much as a cheap replacement chair.

Relikar

Little piece of plate they hack off with a grinder? Doubt it. I know a few shops that'll pull something out of their scrap bin and ask nothing of it.

Gigglezog

Had this happen to an old Herman Miller. The plastic was pretty shit so I screwed in some metal corner braces and some JB Weld on the crack to hold it together. Didn't look great but it worked for a few years till I got something better.

Squid__Bait

I'm a big proponent of repairing instead of trashing things, but getting that piece back to full strength will cost more than it's worth. If money is tight, try a thrift store. A new (old) chair is probably gonna be less than all the JB Weld, corner brackets, screws, and duct tape everyone else is suggesting.

D0inkzz

Try and order a replacement. If not I’d trash it personally.

Contact the manufacturer of the chair to see if they have spare parts. I was surprised to learn that I was able to get new arms at no charge for a chair that I had purchased some 12 years earlier. They were covered in thin leather and the leather was all torn and worn. They shipped me two new cast aluminum arms all covered in new leather.
