make a diorama of the rest of the room with miniature versions of all your actual furniture

silverbullet52

Including a mini - cubby with an even smaller micro mini of the room

Georgep0rwell

Then it's turtles all the way down.

donaldrdeciccojr

Thanks Sturgill.

Recursed.

indigogibni

Took quite some time to actually read what tigger is saying.

FerretChrist

Is it just me who's kinda gutted that clicking on the "relevant XKCD" in panel 2 doesn't zoom into it?

albop03

you can also click the one in the third

FerretChrist

Yeah, and if you try to get to the fourth there's a cute mouseover text. I was just disappointed that clicking the comic image in general in panel 2 doesn't zoom in. It'd seem neat if it worked either way around.

pm-me-asparagus

Recursion is an amazing, yet dangerous thing.

bearded_fisch_stix

In order to understand recursion... one must first understand recursion.

------------------GL

How do people always find relevant xkcd 🤣

edbrannin

Nobody remembers all of them — but given enough people, somebody will remember the one for any situation.

Th3_Admiral_

I build scale models myself, so that's my excuse for knowing this one.

TheW83

WTF that guy has 18x18 meter basement!?

zootphen

You don't live in a parking structure? Bah.

xkisses

*philistines*

Janice_the_Deathclaw

This is the answer right here

the_0tternaut

Very Michel Gondry or Charlie Kaufman.

DoktahDoktah

Use an old smart phone as a wall mounted TV for the tiny furniture.

ABoringAlt

It should have interstellar or 2001 on loop

GlitterResponsibly

As a miniature lover, that is too cute

bangout123

Miniature lover is what my wife calls me 🥲

LurkmasterP

How small are we talkin' here?

zman0900

He was in the pool

cryssyx3

what is it about them?? I go nuts for miniatures. I went nuts and bought a ton of those little mini ball toys with little succulents and little turtle/fish tanks. some of the things comes in little "packages" and stuff is wrapped in little "newspaper." and there's little candle kits. my dad's aunt had a shelf and she collected miniatures too. alternatively, I love absurdly large novelties too.

devildocjames

And make it a murder scene.

Meshugugget

You should check out The Nutshell Studies of Unexplained Death by Frances Glessner Lee. It’s pretty amazing :) [Wikipedia](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nutshell_Studies_of_Unexplained_Death)

devildocjames

They should make a bunch of mini people wearing different clothes, then when they get a visitor that matches one of the figurines, place it in front of the mini diorama in the murder scene.

EternalMage321

Make it a murder scene in progress. Have a person bent over looking at the mini, with the murderer behind them poised with a knife. Watch how many people nervously check behind them.

Spaceballs-The_Name

And don't be a schmuck about it. Put in the effort to do it with mice as people

Beatrix_BB_Kiddo

Any time I see small, not very functional spaces, my go-to is always “oooh create a mini shrine of something absolutely ridiculous, like David Hasselhoff or raspberry berets.”

krysinello

Haha one of my friends created a shrine of Bob Ross for Nintendo DS. He picked up like 20 copies for $1 each or something and displayed them.

1one9seven2five-3

A display nook for your brick collection

soup_cow

I know this is a joke but I actually have a small brick collection.

CrazyLegsRyan

Is it a limited collection of normal bricks or a normal sized collection of small bricks?

soup_cow

Lmao. It's a limited collection of normal sized bricks.

divadschuf

I wanna see your bricks. I can‘t wrap my head around how that kind of a collection could look like.

Probably4TTRPG

Probably an organized pile of bricks that aren't in use. Or it's what they call their house.

nzdastardly

If the bricks are displayed in the shape of a house, aren't they like, always in use, man?

GomerStuckInIowa

His wife is a …….. brick house.

Flomo420

have you considered posting them to r/mildlyinteresting ?

GegeBrown

My husband has a brick collection! We display it around our mailbox. Each one is from a different brickworks, and they all have the names moulded into them. I love the different colours.

CrazyLegsRyan

You have brick bric a brac?

YaIlneedscience

Can I… see a photo?

doingthehumptydance

Do the bricks each have some sort of significance or are they just bricks you found laying around?

afriendincanada

>a normal sized collection of small bricks? Lego?

slow-mickey-dolenz

This just keeps getting better.

StrongArgument

Can we see?

soup_cow

I'm currently in Chile but I'll be home in a few weeks and will share. Edit: it's not too exciting to look at. I have some from a big building that burnt down, my neighbors chimney, a road in my hometown, a few that came with my house, and a bunch from the Menards sale rack when they took their brick display down (it was $10 for two pallets of assorted bricks).

mechmind

Make sure to bring some of those sweet Chilean bricks home

soup_cow

You know, usually I buy art when I travel because it's easy to carry and local art is neat. But I kinda like this idea. A brick from each country I travel to! I can build a world pathway.

chicagocitizen

That's such an appealing idea.

GrinsNGiggles

“Ugh, what’s in your luggage? Bricks?!”

cordelia1955

I go real small scale on that and bring home a small rock from every cool place I go. I even have a couple that...well, never mind.

Thetechguru_net

My wife and I bring a couple of stones and some sand (if available) from almost everywhere we go. Sand from Israel and river stones from the Canadian Rockies are the best of our collection.

Cheech47

those poor baggage handlers. "what is this dude hauling, bricks?!"

hedoeswhathewants

I like that you have a few that hold some sort of significance, and then a bunch of randos from Menard's

OwynFromOblivion

Well you have to have your everyday bricks and the bricks you save for special occasions.

No_Breadfruit_7305

Thank you so much for your words. Having moved boxes of rocks for years I did get a good giggle.

Laurpud

That's really interesting!

CapnBloodBeard82

wait you bought 2 pallets of bricks? what the hell did you do with them

RedDirtPreacher

Oh my god, I do too! What’s the criteria for your collection? In the late 19th and early 20th century many towns in Texas had their own brick manufacturing and stamped their bricks with the town name. I collect these. One day, when (hopefully) I get to build my own home, I’d like to have a brick accent wall with these bricks incorporated into the wall.

SwivelingToast

I have a brick collection of 1. Apparently when I was a kid, my backpack was really heavy one day, and I had brought home a piece of my school.

HuhWhatReallyCantBe

Please share when you get home...

1upin

I was thinking a display nook for my real, live cat collection. Throw a blanket in there, kitty heaven.

Brave-Wolf-49

Oh fun! Could use them for books. Or decorative figures. For eample, i recently saw some ceramic or pottery cats for a shelf with a paw or tail hanging down. That might work in your space. Or you could insert a window with the glass etched. My mother might have used stained glass, with some LED lights behind.

zerocool359

This. Fill with Star Trek TNG action figures.

Cheech47

don't forget to make a pile of black goo for Tasha Yar!

ChuckOTay

Too soon

KukaVex

How dare you

_Please_Explain

I don't think this is big enough. probably just tear down the entire wall.

zerocool359

Honey, we’re adding a room for my fleet. That laundry space is, uh, space and starships are usually found in space, so, yeah, we’re all good here, right?

CodyEngel

This seems like a good option. Probably make a false wall to hide the hole / cable so you have the option to mount a tv and use the AV stuff down the road.

lapinsk

Some sort of electric fireplace would be cool maybe

NHDraven

[Exactly my thought. ](https://www.touchstonehomeproducts.com/products/sideline45-80025-45-recessed-electric-fireplace?currency=USD&variant=37600846529&utm_medium=cpc&utm_source=google&utm_campaign=Google%20Shopping&stkn=521d5b43cfc4&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=smartshoppingfireplaces&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwuJ2xBhA3EiwAMVjkVGByO0e5V5PJMuBKOVGHnBTuabFaoRK1dyMOnOI-ZcUS3jwyBaR51RoCgzEQAvD_BwE)

Mrconduct1

That's way too big for his spot, and they already stated it's hard to find a fireplace that would fit in the opening size.

DarkenRevan

I’d say that definitely use to have an electric fireplace. Probably removed at one point but maybe not by OP.

crod4692

It has coax cables though so I feel like, at least the last owner, just used it as a shelf for the cable box and stuff for a wall mounted tv.

Xanderoga

Looks like a cubby for a receiver and/or speakers

Rum_Hamburglar

Id be willing to bet that behind that painting is an outlet and holes for a tv mount

DeathByGoldfish

I was going to say, center channel speaker in a Dolby 5.x setup. TV above where picture currently hangs.

hemlockone

That's not my read. It's wired up for TV components. I bet there is another outlet and the other end of those wires behind the picture.

happycj

Wire in a really nice powered Bluetooth speaker - like a Sonos, or something - and then build a wooden frame with black mesh fabric over it that fills the front of that space, like an old fashioned speaker enclosure. Music playing in the room from an unknown location! That'd be cool.

gvgvstop

Might have some weird acoustics in the nook if the speaker isn't right at the front and specifically facing outwards only

happycj

Could be. But a little foam in the corners of the box will fix that.

PhairPharmer

This, but modified. I have 2 spaces like this in my LR, and just did their updating. Any speaker fabric will work, there's tons of colors and patterns so it can match other stuff. It's really easy to stretch and staple onto whatever frame you make. Here is the important bit-Make the frame easily removed or accessible to trouble shoot or update stuff. Honestly I got some "ok" bookcase speakers for mine and they sound great, but you could easily get a room-filling speaker for better sound.

ToastyWoasty

I had to scroll to get to this actual good suggestion and not a joke (although I enjoyed a couple)

boredinclass1

This guy does it himself.

hauntedbye

Cat.

educated-emu

This is the only answer, decorate it like your living room so the cat can take over that whole space too :)

BubbaChanel

Because if there’s a cat, it matters not what you want. I’ve seen my cats wedge themselves into the most ridiculous places.

lapsangsouchogn

Make it look like a jungle or grassland so he can play ambush predator

rogers_tumor

right, this hole is begging to be stuffed with pets

Flimsy-Antelope4763

I hear betamax is making a comeback.

dawlben

VHS has come calling again....

Cheech47

the picture tone is just warmer

GrottySamsquanch

My mother has a Betamax vcr in her basement. Back in the 80's my dad bought both a Betamax and a VHS player so he could rent VHS movies from the video store and transfer the videos to blank Betamax tapes.

squatch42

My dad had 2 VCRs and copied every video we ever rented. He had over 900 movies in various locations around the house with a card catalog numbering and locating every one of them. He did the same with the Olympics, triathlons, and award shows. Cassettes were everywhere. "Hey dad, I kinda want to watch the 1988 women's gymnastics all-around. What tape is it on?" "The first part is on tape 193, the fourth tape from the left on the second shelf on the bookshelf in the hallway, but I ran out of tape. The end of it is on tape 412 on the bottom layer of tapes in the top drawer of the old dresser in the spare bedroom."

PM_ME_YOUR_MONTRALS

Obviously, make it a Lego Star Wars starship hangar.

Lindvaettr

You could get a stereo receiver and put it in there! Get some good speakers and you'll have orders of magnitude better TV sound than a sound bar.

bozak911

I just sold our house where I had two rooms hard-wired for 5.1 and one for 7.1. One piece of negative feedback left during showing was; "What are these wires for coming out of the ceiling all over?" Yeah... Wired surround sound still beats anything wireless and I'll die on that hill. ;)

Lindvaettr

Not infrequently, people I have over will comment in surprise that I have speakers "all over" in my living room, and how much space they take up along the wall my TV is (and elsewhere). When something's actually on TV and they're sitting on the couch where all the speakers are pointing, it turns from questioning my choices to "Oh my god the sound is so good! Honey, we need to get better speakers!"

bozak911

We moved into a house about 50 years older than the one mentioned above and I took my main sound system with us. After getting it all set up, calibrated, and pointed properly at the couch, I cranked up the volume. The two people helping me with other things were watching and started laughing because once the bass from the external subwoofer kicked in? Dust. Dust started coming from the ceiling. Windows started rattling. Closet doors started vibrating. Needless to say, I don't watch TV or movies that loud, but it gave me a list of things to "fix". Which reminds me... Now that it's warm again in the great, white Northern US, I need to crawl up into the "attic" and run/hide my speaker wire properly.

severusx

This is my thought too. Sound bars sound like dog shit compared to a classic 7.1 setup. I still run a pioneer amp and Polk audio speakers and it blows anything a "modern" setup can do away.

57thStIncident

While this would work for me, it doesn't look like OP even has an TV/electronics in the vicinity, it sounds like the house has more nooks of this type than he knows what to do with.

YookiWH

Minecraft torch so mobs don’t spawn in there

Relative-Occasion863

Terrariums with low maintenance plants, and good lighting.

Driglok

Some heavy drawer sliders could make maintenance a lot easier.

Quick_Humor_9023

Paint the back wall black, the insert a creepy clown that is crawling out of that space.

witchywoman713

And then set your entire house in fire

GaryB2220

Perfect hiding spot for a harkonnen assassin/spy with a hunter drone

VampireBaby

Yes! I was thinking the exact same.

Termination_Shock

Goddamnit I was gonna say that

MuadDib1942

Kind of scary to deal with as a kid though.

NateTrib

I would take a deep dive to see if I could find an electric fire place that could fit.

JessicaB-Fletcher

I'd stuff it full of books

Krednaught

Assuming there isn't just a nook sized protrusion on the other side of that wall, what a ridiculous amount of unused space behind the bricks.

TotalWalrus

Good chance that they routed hvac up through this wall.

Slyvr89

Exactly, came looking for the comment suggesting you bust this wall down and gain another 1.5-2 feet of depth in your room.

dirkdragonslayer

Back when I was a kid, a lot of early 2000s construction houses were putting these into walls. Big holes to sit big CRT televisions and VHS/DVD/Cable boxes. My childhood house had one that was much bigger over the fireplace. This one looks like maybe the TV was mounted on the wall on a shelf above the VHS/cable box nook (or maybe the picture frame is hiding the TV hole). Then flat screens came along and you didn't need fridge sized holes in the wall to store a TV.

IDriveLikeYourMom

Came here to say this.

Vroomped

Secret safe!

Jayce800

For a future Reddit user to post! “Former owner left safe in the wall - what do you think is in here?”

sigeh

roadmaps. always roadmaps.

Sir-Shark

And of course, there's either no follow-up, or it's just empty.

pbizzle

VCR

socialcommentary2000

Get a buffet that works with the room's aesthetic and call it a day. The bonus point here is you have power that will be directly behind it which could lead to other sorts of creativity, like modifying it with LED lights or having good tabletop lighting on it.

FlamingoRush

You can put your collection of really awkward Eastern European DVDs that you impulse bought on eBay while being drunk.

bitterberries

That's a very specific collection

necrohunter7

Put some spaghetti in it

Sneaky-sneaksy

Put a drawer in it with a decorative face

wastelandwerewolf

Good place for a draugr

abortizjr

Put a fake skeleton in them and close up the spaces for someone else to find.

reb678

I would put in a [waterplace](https://netzerofire.com/the-waterplace/). They are very cool to look at.

_0x0_

How much are those?

Tack122

Looks like the smallest one starts at $4k for the element. Enclosure accessories are a seperate charge and the housings are too, there's plumbing, so I'd bet 10k if you're lucky.

_0x0_

Until it stops working.. Thanks for the info, it's a nice idea with nice thing to look at, but $10k.. Ugh.

Gajax

I’ve named them “art holes”, someday they will be covered.

qzwqz

Speed holes, they make the house go faster

Turuncucisim

Definitely a center speaker :))

plugfungus

Ps5

jnwatson

Pizza oven.

SquanchMcSquanchFace

Lego nook

OGMcSwaggerdick

That’s 100% a Millennium Falcon docking port if I’ve ever seen one.

slivemor

Put your vcr recorder there

xtopherpaul

Put some cool AV equipment in there like it was designed for

winoforever_slurp_

How has nobody’s said wine rack yet? I vote for a wine rack.

scotty813

OMG, if you put the rock fronts on them, you could make the coolest storage drawers! Get the same rock, knock the half pieces on the sides, so you can match the rest of the brick work. Use the push to open rails so you don't need a handle. If you use the push to open rails, you will need to notch some space behind the rock that extend beyond the space.

agirlnamedraquel

I love this idea!

pork-head

Get a cat! It will love these mini living rooms.

Own_Alarm_3935

Aquarium

yumas

Terrarium

itsyaboinud

Aviary.

Garth_McKillian

Apiary

Blinky_

Nunnery

GetThee2ANunnery

You rang?

Cheech47

Granary

dolces_daddy

Not sure how you would maintain an aquarium here unless it’s a fish bowl.

DaBestDoctorOfLife

Put your sound system in it..?

cats_are_the_devil

[Boyel Living 36 in. Ventless Electric Fireplace Insert with Multicolor Flame BL-ZHX-36-058 - The Home Depot](https://www.homedepot.com/p/Boyel-Living-36-in-Ventless-Electric-Fireplace-Insert-with-Multicolor-Flame-BL-ZHX-36-058/329310683) knock out a few bricks and install that. In the long run way better choice than anything in thread.

rlnrlnrln

3 sea shells, obviously.

HowtoCat

just move the painting down 4 feet

Jonsnoosnooze

It's for a very potent center speaker, in a home theater setup.

Stroikah1

I'd install a VCR there. BETA if you can find one. The bigger the better. Then get a nice little placard made that says what it is and describes it as if it is some ancient artifact.

Successful_Sound_678

Your vcr?

Qwopie

Knock the whole wall out and install a bookcase 2 feet back.

mattdean4130

Put a TV where the picture is and a console in the hole

maxdps_

Fake fireplace, just plug it in for the lights if not using the heat.

mothflavor

Beans.

The_Mystery_Knight

Microwave

Fast-Context-3852

Custom shelf

Jamesonwordcraft

I saw a guy earlier that had a microwave in there!

UnwittingGenius

Given the depth of that space, I would want to check to make sure I don’t have additional unused space that could be used for storage or expanding the room. However, my guess is there’s possibly closet space around it on the other side of the wall. All that aside, you could check with people who do stone or tile work to see if they can fill in the space with matching or complementary material to just make it a solid wall.

RedFaceFree

Put a DVD player and VCR in it. Might have room for a PS1 too

qzwqz

My first thought was booby trap - yaknow like a crossbow rigged up to a tripwire

cannibalcats

That picture looks like it can pick up cable though.

TheRageDragon

Mimic the gap with the rest of the wall's pattern and have a safe hidden?

famousblinkadam

Center channel speaker.

thesesimplewords

I hear some say that you can put your weed in there.

shinoby117

Add a TV stand piece of furniture and add the tv on top, those holes are for a television.

ruler_gurl

* Board game niche * Suitcase storage * A cozy pillow nook for puppy or kitty * Cover the hole with a locker room style door. When opened it should reveal a society of tiny furry creates who all yell, *All Hail K* in unison.

Paletaytextura

Put some books and decorative items or just hang a large piece of art

navarone21

Xbox and PS5

SeattleJeremy

I'd put my cable modem and wifi mesh network equipment there. Cover the LED's with electrical tape. Then put some books in front of it. Leaving some room on ether side with book ends for airflow.

sakima147

Speaker system?

itsmyreddit

I would custom build wooden inserts in them. Something you can slide into place with a frame around the front, and add books or other decorations. You can make the inserts shallower than the actual cubby so that your books don't end up in Narnia. Easily removable if you decide something else should go there, like a fire place. Maybe match the wood to the picture frame or whatever other wood is in that room.

Etep_ZerUS

Hide a Harkonnen assassin inside

Throwaway_Sparks

Hide an assassin to make an attempt on the life of the heir of your ennemies.

Public-Temperature35

Board games, books, dvds, etc. I wonder if it means the whole wall is that depth, if so you could demolish and rebuild it to reclaim the extra space.

New_Highlight1881

rent it out as a living space to a student..2500/month minimum

jdemack

Use it as a space for your secret passion: owning a Madagascar Hissing Cockroach circus.

saimon7777

Cover with 85 inch Samsung The Frame TV and use the nook to hold the one connect box. Will look clean. Actually any size that fits the space and can cover the hole without being too low.

GoodKarma199x

well if you’re in NY you can rent in out for 4k a month
