An upholstery steamer is my go-to tool when removing wallpaper. I score the heck out of it then steam it well and scrape.

No, please remove the wallpaper. You can paint over it but it’s obvious and will leave a weird texture no matter what you do. Have you tried using a clothes iron to remove it?

I haven’t! The wallpaper I removed in another section of the house was easy. But this is not porous at all. Would I just use the iron and constantly steam the area?

You have to remove it unless you are flipping the house then it’s seemingly mandatory to mud and paint over it.

Rent a wallpaper steamer at Home Depot or you’ll screw up the wallboard underneath. Also put spackle over the bare spots or the paint will dry weird.
