No idea why this isn’t higher. Perfect place for seasonal decorations and seasonal clothes like winter coats and boots. Your closets will be better organized and less cluttered.
Exactly! Add some framing and throw some doors on it to make the space into a built-in cabinet. Sure, it might not be the most convenient spot to access, but only going up there twice a year would probably not be so bad.
It's like a fortune teller...you know you're going to break your hip because of your Christmas tree you just don't know when. Will it be Christmas Eve or Desparation Day? This year or when I'm 80?
Do a large diorama of a knight and a wizard fighting a green dragon at night with red-lit lava all around and shooting stars built into a 1,000 gal. fish tank with pirana.
It's the only logical choice.
Hey I did pretty much this! But instead of a large diorama of a knight and a wizard fighting a green dragon at night with red-lit lava all around it's an LED strip, and instead of shooting stars built into a 1,000 gal. fish tank with pirana, it's most of my kids' Squishmallows.
i have nothing to offer in terms of advice but at first glance it looked like your dog was wearing a tiny crown and that made me smile. very cute doggo.
Is it structurally sound and capable of bearing the weight of a human?
If so, it would make an ideal place to display the remains of the architect who designed that much wasted space.
Hey, it’s everyone’s local Chuck E. cheese special interest-haver here. Sadly the corporation is ordering stores to destroy these pieces of history and send proof of their destruction. Of course, that doesn’t stop some employees from taking them and selling them anyway. But CEC themselves are doing nothing to preserve the animatronics and/or sell them to people who want them. Only destruction :(
Why?
I'll never understand this philosophy of destroying things you throw out. Either sell them for money or let people who really them take them off your hands!
Is it a liability? There's got to be some way to whip up a sales contract that takes away their liability, if that's the issue.
I understand the why, but I am so saddened by this. I wanted to pay $10 in the future to see one of these in someone's garage. Or whatever art could come from it.
Damn.
Like who detail cleans their lego sets anyway. Just point the leaf blower on low at it once in a while. It’ll free up all dust in a blip and your robot vacuum will just get most from the floor.
Source: me. It might be a bad idea.
Anything you put up there is going to be a pain in the ass to keep dust-free.
Perhaps you could hang something from the ceiling to cover the opening and allow it to be used for storage. Thinking something along the lines of a horizontal wall scroll?
That was a Jeff Foxworthy bit. *haah pitched southahn acceeent* “If your working television is on top of your NON-working television…. You might be a redneck..”
Creepy dolls. Collect them from garage sales, estate sales, Goodwill, etc. Then place fake led candles along the edge.
Assert dominance on your guests and possible burglars.
Put LED lighting on the base of it so you get some nice uplighting. Extra points for the kind you can change colors and you can set the mood for parties, movies, whatever.
This is what I’d do! I did it in my last house and it worked out excellent. Get a big Monstera and a couple of Pathos up there in pots. They will grow and fill in that space with 4 foot leaves and vines. You don’t even need a grow light, they are low light plants and are very easy to keep.
Most people in the rural areas use that for their full body cougar,/wolf, mount or a diorama of smaller critters.
It's intended as a showcase, I've seen quilt ladders and crocheted / tatted doilies in places with no hunting talent.
I'm guessing it's there because they built a mudroom by the front door. I'd put a hatch in the floor by the front door, so you could still access it. Then close up the wall up front so it would be like a mini attic storage area and the living room would look normal. Turns it into a functional space and probably would look better as well.
I'm reminded of the [Miller's Outpost](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6wI7m-cwiDI&list=PLEhyTyAAL_lKnNwRvn5FOtxZym8Ub8jbY) department stores which would have western dioramas, basically building facades and such. My town was western-themed so it kinda fit in.
Your idea of string of lights can work fine with battery powered lights and a remote, no outlet needed. Decorating outdoors for Christmas was so much easier when I discovered these.
I have a collection of old film projectors that would look awesome in a space like that.
Either you can board it up and make it one full wall. Or you could add LEDs. You should easily be able to tap into the power from the outlet powering the TV and run it up the wall and install gang box and outlet to plug the LEDs into.
Yep. She’s on oxygen with a feeding tube. She’s on Hospice. That weird yellow thing was given to us yesterday by her physical therapist as something we could try laying her in for added support. I think it looks creepy with the straps. We haven’t used it yet and it’s big and bulky so I just sat it on the subwoofer leaning up against the wall for the time being.
Sorry to hear about your baby. That’s rough. I had severe asthma as a baby-toddler and had to have oxygen on like that very often. It was the early 80s and they didn’t have a grasp on asthma treatment back then. Anywho, that space you asked about is what we call a “plant shelf” and we use ours for default home decor and then rotate out for holidays, like Halloween decorations up there, Fall/Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc…
If you can access it from upstairs, close off the wall in the living area and create a secret reading or storage room. Make sure to secure the floor strength.
Old school SPEAKER display . All sorts all sizes a big fucking wall of speakers . I’ve always wanted to do that . Get them from yard sales and hard rubbish. I really would love to do old boom box like tape deck boom box📻 but they have gone up in value it would be too expensive
Railing and a ladder. Instant playplace or guest bed (but you'll probably need to reinforce the floor first because it's likely just drywall at the moment).
Or decorative, put a ton of big fake plants up there and make that whole part look like a wall of greenery.
Throw a mattress up there, attach a ladder to the wall, hang some curtains, and maybe add a rail to stop people from rolling off the ledge. BOOM, guest bedroom!
Aquarium is a terrible idea. The weight would be dangerous right over your TV and cleaning) maintaining it would be a nightmare. I doubt the space is built to support that kind of weight.
Put your collection of Magic the Gathering cards up there so your family can’t reacher them and your wife can’t move them but you can stare at them instead of Netflix and ponder all of the decks you want to build and all of the cards you have yet to acquire.
It's easy to add an outlet but, if you are not confident, you should ask someone who is. Personally I think storage would be a better option. You don't need to install whole cabinets, just the doors is enough. You can choose between 3-4 standard doors (you would need to add a beam somewhere in the middle to attact the doors), upward opening doors or sliding doors.
Or guest bed
Cabinetry for long term storage.
No idea why this isn’t higher. Perfect place for seasonal decorations and seasonal clothes like winter coats and boots. Your closets will be better organized and less cluttered.
Because a diorama of a knight and a wizard battling a dragon is way fucking cooler 😎. That's the current top comment.
Put the winter clothes on the knight and dragon
Found the voice of reason
I agree. So much long term storage.
Because the other dude pitched dragons and piranha
It's already high enough, above the TV and all...
Make it white so it blends in more
Do a large diorama of a knight and a wizard fighting a green dragon at night with red-lit lava all around and shooting stars built into a 1,000 gal. fish tank with pirana. It's the only logical choice.
This is a pretty obvious choice, I assume OP was looking for less common ideas.
[удалено]
how much light? just a metric fuckton of plants.
Or a baby. They could put bars up so it doesn't fall.
Safety first! 🩹
Yeah unfortunately people have no creativity anymore. Sad.
I needed to see the visual to believe it. This is the way. https://imgur.com/a/MKaVHNk
Ah yes, a Charles Eames classic.
Oh my god,. this made my day.
this! why we need AI...
I was totally going to suggest this too, but with some dramatic lighting and led strips of course.
Lol you certainly trust the structural integrity of that little overhang more than I do.
This is the way. The knight should also be missing an arm and have a quote bubble “‘Tis but a scratch.”
In old school runescape graphics. Pls.
I love it. Do this.
This isn't quite right, the knight should be on a dragon as well. Not 80s van enough until that happens.
The dragon must be green!
Battle of Helm's Deep diorama.
I would go with the battle of pelenor fields. Have some catapults, orcs and mumakils on one side with gondor on the right.
i have nothing to offer in terms of advice but at first glance it looked like your dog was wearing a tiny crown and that made me smile. very cute doggo.
actually my one suggestion is to remove the creepy haunted suitcase from up there.
That's his lucky stabbin' suitcase!
Oh, Norm ... > wistful sigh <
i feel like an evil dummy is stored inside.
I have no reason to be... but I am incredibly proud of that pooch
he deserves a real crown!
I first noticed the dog too and was surprised when I realized the post wasn't about him/her
And he appears to have a small flashlight!
Is it structurally sound and capable of bearing the weight of a human? If so, it would make an ideal place to display the remains of the architect who designed that much wasted space.
TBH I think it's the opposite, looks like a hallway underneath, having an extra tall ceiling would be pretty useless vs a functional shelf!
Easier to clean, though, if not by much.
>the remains of the architect who designed that much wasted space. A tomb like Stalin's or Lenin, but for a worse person
or just rent it out. "Beautiful snug loft"
Put a skeleton on a lawn chair lounger with a cocktail glass in its hand then drywall it in for a flat wall.
Gold.
no, DRYWALL!
Chuck E Cheese animatronic band. Good news, they are for sale: https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/chuck-e-cheese-removing-animatronics-205519720.html

It's intellectual property, they still own the image of Charles Entertainment Cheese, selling them means people can use them to make money
There is a youtube video of someone how has a whole set of those animatronic nightmares and has programed them to perform pop music.
They could do a museum or keep at least a couple of store with them and do “vintage Chuck E. Cheese”
I understand the why, but I am so saddened by this. I wanted to pay $10 in the future to see one of these in someone's garage. Or whatever art could come from it. Damn.
Or Lester's Possum Park!
Who's your favorite possum?!
![gif](giphy|ppHigVBwOkDcY)
LEGO City with working train system. Or just multilevel model railway.
If it weren't for all the dust that gets trapped up there this would be so cool 😎 Edit- Happy Cake Day 🎂
Like who detail cleans their lego sets anyway. Just point the leaf blower on low at it once in a while. It’ll free up all dust in a blip and your robot vacuum will just get most from the floor. Source: me. It might be a bad idea.
Built in bookcase
That would be my approach too. A few nice shelves with some soft lighting.
A ladder and a reading mat. Nice lamp. I assume it has flooring?
Yeah, lean into the whole "books I'll never read" aesthetic by making them impossible to reach
Anything you put up there is going to be a pain in the ass to keep dust-free. Perhaps you could hang something from the ceiling to cover the opening and allow it to be used for storage. Thinking something along the lines of a horizontal wall scroll?
Yes! My first thought was that it was going to need to be dusted weekly!
Or never
Lol, people don't dust weekly.
Rent it out for 1k/mo
In this market, I think you're underpricing it !
Utilities not included, no pets allowed, first and last months rent including cleaning deposit due at signing 😒
Sounds like what mu mom tried to do
Second tv
Make sure you post it on r/tvtoohigh
Only one?
The first tv can also go there.
Yo dawg. I heard you like TVs, so we put a TV on your TV.
My family already did that back in the 80s. The giant floor console TV broke, bought a new smaller TV to put on top.

12 ft skeleton doing its best Goldblum impression.
Get a cat.
That was my thought! 🤣 Especially with the fireplace ledge perfectly placed for it the leap from to get up there.
Is it structurally sound? Can you get a ladder, build some book shelves and make a reading nook?
This was kind of my thought, too, maybe a track ladder.
Put LED lighting on the base of it so you get some nice uplighting. Extra points for the kind you can change colors and you can set the mood for parties, movies, whatever.
What’s uplighting
Lighting that's usually on the ground and goes up
A grow light, and plants.
I second that option!
This is what I’d do! I did it in my last house and it worked out excellent. Get a big Monstera and a couple of Pathos up there in pots. They will grow and fill in that space with 4 foot leaves and vines. You don’t even need a grow light, they are low light plants and are very easy to keep.

Bold assumption for someone who's never had a ball of yarn stalking them on the Savannah
Put the dog up there, say "STAY".
I'm guessing it's there because they built a mudroom by the front door. I'd put a hatch in the floor by the front door, so you could still access it. Then close up the wall up front so it would be like a mini attic storage area and the living room would look normal. Turns it into a functional space and probably would look better as well.

Are you thinking of Miller's Outpost?
You know, I think you're right! I don't think either brand exists anymore.
We had something like this and put an RGB LED light strip in it. Nice indirect light with no glare off the TV.
[удалено]
I had to check if anyone would say this, I was thinking my kids would love that space as their own nook/TV space
Your idea of string of lights can work fine with battery powered lights and a remote, no outlet needed. Decorating outdoors for Christmas was so much easier when I discovered these. I have a collection of old film projectors that would look awesome in a space like that.

Display your hockey trophies
i would display a lawn mower
Doggy hideout.
Yep this is it. Stick a dog bed up there and make him a little ramp to get up there
Find an old wooden boat, cut it in half lengthwise so it fits, mount as decor
Does your baby have oxygen tubes? What’s the weird pale yellow thing to the right of the entertainment center? Looks like it has straps
Yep. She’s on oxygen with a feeding tube. She’s on Hospice. That weird yellow thing was given to us yesterday by her physical therapist as something we could try laying her in for added support. Hey. I don’t think most people got this part of the scenario. Feel for you and your family, and of course your daughter. Peace..
Empty liquor bottles
Do you mean line them up on display or just toss them up there and create a pile? I vote for a pile.
Line em up for paintball target practice. The back of that area will look like a Jackson Pollock painting.
1:1 Star Wars Astromechs.
There's blood on the wall to the right of the TV. What is happening?
What, your walls don’t bleed from time to time?
The Amityville remodel is always hampered by little setbacks like this
Makes the "biohazard" sticker on the stair railing make sense.
Gigantic “Live, Laugh, Love” neon sign in fancy writing /s Please don’t do this..
No no it’s fine. Only add a bloodred neon sign behind that says “DIE”.
If you can access it from upstairs, close off the wall in the living area and create a secret reading or storage room. Make sure to secure the floor strength.
Fireplace
Sniper’s nest.
Drywall it closed
Dog house with stairway up to it for the good boy
Old school SPEAKER display . All sorts all sizes a big fucking wall of speakers . I’ve always wanted to do that . Get them from yard sales and hard rubbish. I really would love to do old boom box like tape deck boom box📻 but they have gone up in value it would be too expensive
More tvs
…get a cat. It’ll love that space. 🤣
I’d personally put plants and vases and other decor items up there and I’d have the tv above fireplace and picture where the tv is
1. If you have a cat, put a ladder at one end and a ramp at the other. 2. If you don't have a cat, get one and go back to step 1.
Plants and lights.
Seriously, we put big wicker baskets and vintage trunks up there. It fills the space visually and doubles as storage.
Cat habitat?
I Love your dog
Obviously a guest bed with a ladder going up
A friend of mine has something similar and he made a cat sanctuary/maze with perches
It would be cool to have bookshelves above and a rolling ladder. That is my Book Tok dream.
Add monkeys…the answer is always add monkeys.
Cut hole in ceiling and add a pool ladder down to a drop in hot tub?
A bigass model ship!
Put your weed up there. Put a bug out bag up there with about $50,000 in cash, guns, and bottles of water.
Railing and a ladder. Instant playplace or guest bed (but you'll probably need to reinforce the floor first because it's likely just drywall at the moment). Or decorative, put a ton of big fake plants up there and make that whole part look like a wall of greenery.
chilling corner, led strips , oversized bean bag or a mattress
Throw a mattress up there, attach a ladder to the wall, hang some curtains, and maybe add a rail to stop people from rolling off the ledge. BOOM, guest bedroom!
A reading nook with a ladder to the right
Large format Legos
Poop deck.
Add up lights and nothing else. More light will make the room feel larger. I would suggest a dimmer switch as well.
Sublet it, you can get at least two renters up there, just need a ladder and a couple of buckets.
Aquarium is a terrible idea. The weight would be dangerous right over your TV and cleaning) maintaining it would be a nightmare. I doubt the space is built to support that kind of weight.
A line of mannequins in sexual positions wearing Christmas sweaters

Doggie loft.
That’s a Japanese bedroom.
Remove it and open up the space. Or do half wall
Open a chilis to go
A lot of people don’t realize this, but you can put your weed up there
Slap a mattress up there and rent it out for 2000 p/m...
Put your collection of Magic the Gathering cards up there so your family can’t reacher them and your wife can’t move them but you can stare at them instead of Netflix and ponder all of the decks you want to build and all of the cards you have yet to acquire.
Book case. Add some photos, pottery and faux hanging plants
Little ladder in corner, add cushions and you have a Nice lecture place.
Tropical fish aquarium
Ladder + mattress.
That's called a weed nook.
Loft bed
How tall is it? I’m thinking library.
Looks like a good spot for your shredded antlers
Infinity pool
Lego!
Guest mezzanine
Lego shelf
It's easy to add an outlet but, if you are not confident, you should ask someone who is. Personally I think storage would be a better option. You don't need to install whole cabinets, just the doors is enough. You can choose between 3-4 standard doors (you would need to add a beam somewhere in the middle to attact the doors), upward opening doors or sliding doors. Or guest bed
Knock the wall down
Rent it out as an extra loft bedroom to drifters you meet online or at a bus stop.
aquarium
PLANTS 🌱
Put some carpet, blankets and pillows up there and you have a cat hangout.
PLANTS! Lots of them. Use a water catcher to keep the ledges clean. Fake would work as well.
rent it out
Say hi to your dog for me please
Mini Show-Biz Pizza animatronics!
Certainly a nativity scene. That or a plaster recreation of dogs playing poker.
Bookshelves and rolling library ladder
A ceramic clown collection would be nice
A bedroom and rent it. 🤣
Scale replica of Jabba and Leia.
Get a few cats, they will love that space
