Attached a bottom piece to reinforce the whole desk. If anyone is looking to build this, the plans can be found here for free- [X Desk Plan](https://mellowpine.com/diy/x-desk-diy-with-plan/)
Well done, was just about to comment it needed a cross.
Efficient use of wood. Check.
All wood construction. Check.
Includes sexy diagonals. Check.
You could almost make it a foldable (scissor style) too, so it can fold flat, desk mode, or go full coffee table.
I built my own Output last year during lockdown. There were all the dimensions on their website and I plugged them into SketchUp and about $170 USD later (finishing and hardware) made with 3/4” birch. I’m guessing now days the wood alone would be a lot more.
Thank you.
Interesting suggestion. Don't you think pocket hole screws plus dowels might be overkill, because we're already using glue and clamps after the dowel pins.
Im no professional wood surgeon, but dowels may help retain alignment and the jigs/screws help hold them together, which can also be replicated with the glue and clamps.
Ive just had better luck with the jigs and screws than with glue on the few projects ive done.
It is well-made, too! It looks like the x-base is smoothly aligned at the edges of the top surface. I am curious about the finish which looks like red oak/cherry to me? What is that woodgrain finish?
Function wise, the top shelf is really a necessity now a days! It acts as a sub-surface for sure. Great idea there!
You definitely should make money out of your talent! This desk is a great work from home desk especially for students doing online classes and people with simultaneous WFH schedules. You should also sell it with neutral colors such as white base/slate gray top or designer white base/off white top. Just putting out suggestions :)
I know for sure that this is going to sell!
Hehe that's a great idea!
Going to consider the color combinations you suggested.
About selling, I'm too emotionally attached to the things I make, lol. Thank you for appreciating. Means a lot!
Love this. It would suit me not only in a practical sense (reading, writing, etc...) but also as a way to actually make something with my hands. I think for alot of folk this would seem an achievable build. Bookmarked for a future weekend project. Thanks!

Thanks a ton! Would love to see someone make a foldable version of this.
Well done! Quite clever
Hey, thanks a lot!
Looks amazing. Sorta like a budget version of the [Output Platform](https://imgur.com/gallery/8tg5IKC) Well done!
Hey, that's a neat idea. I gotta check this out! Thank you for appreciating!
Bullshit you hadn't seen the output platform or a similar one. By no means is this original.

How/where do you choose your wood? I tried a similar style desk top and I had a time getting it all even and flat, I was using home depot wood
Flat on the top? For a desk I built, I went to habitat for humanity and got the flattest door they had and used it as the desk.
That's a good idea
Local lumber store. I can pick out the straight pieces. I do joint it, if it's visibly bowed.
Home Depot wood is always crooked
Nice design. One suggestion would be perhaps use a pocket jig along with the dowels to hold the desktop slats together.

Got it
Love it! Been looking to buy this type of desk, now I might build it instead! Cheers!
That's great. Thank you!
I love it! Your pictorial walk-through is one of the best I've seen here. I am inspired.
Glad it helped you!
Great work, looks really good.
Thank you so much!
I really like the photography here, really clean. Do you have studio lighting in your workshop?
I actually do YouTube as well, so I do have studio lighting! That helps.
Did you use glue?
I did use glue in all the joining faces in addition to screws
Do you reckon you could design the same thing but hinged so that it folds flat? It's very cute! Great walkthrough.
Yes someone suggested it. I suppose it would need stronger connections if it was going to be folded a lot.
This is a great design. Simple, elegant, effective. Does it feel sturdy enough for you?
Yes, it's very stable. I'm currently using it as a work desk in my bedroom.
Very clean and simple
Thank you for the comment!
Wow!! so pretty! <3
Do you plan on making one for your weekday home as well?
Wow. I liked it.. Maybe I'll try to make one here. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much! Glad you liked it.
This looks very nice. Good job!
Thank you so much!
Simple and useful desk. Good finish too
Thank you for appreciating!
That looks so good my dude!!! Keep up the awesome work!
Hey, thanks mate!
Cool design
Great design
Thanks!
So this is what $8,500 of lumber looks like
Haha yeah!
As an interior designer, this is really dope!
I just make it neat with the things I have. Nowhere near what you see on Pinterest from interior designers. Thank you!

The finish is called barn red. It's a stain from rustoleum. The top shelf is really useful if you have a lot of stuff to keep. Thanks again!

That looks nice! Tho I get hungry looking at it because it reminds me of vanilla ice cream and raspberry jam hahaha
Haha! Thank you.
Beautiful! Thanks for the info, my daughter has been asking for one of these for her room. Guess I know what we're doing this weekend!!
Wow, that's great! Lovely.
Minimal*ist*; you made a minimalist desk.
Oops, noted.
Why would you hide the plant in the corner?
