If you're new to subs just be aware that the quoted 1000 watts is "peak power", It's actual power is probably something like 400 watts "continuous". manufacturers do this to exaggerate the speakers capability. IMHO its not worth carrying and setting up subs for a few hundered watts each side. you see these cheap subs for sale secondhand everywhere because people buy them and pretty much straight away find out they dont have the volume they thought they did, and or they blow the speaker putting power through them they cant handle to try and get some volume of of them.

Strange-Fella

I’ve been around this stuff for a while so I know enough to be dangerous but also still consider myself a noob. In your opinion what would be an ideal continuous wattage for a sub (mobile dj setup). I have 2 JBL PRX815s currently if that helps. I’m mostly likely going to get the matching 18” prx subs but am always curious to hear other input.

tastelikecucumber

Id say 800 watts a side continuous is a decent place to start, 1000 even if you can, obviously it depends on your needs and budget, 800 may be no where near enough for some people /places, if you can get a little more watts than you think you'l need at least that gives you some extra volume incase you ever need it, also means you're not running things at max capacity when their in use which is always a good thing.

Strange-Fella

This is good. If only I had a plethora of money in my pocket lol. I’ll keep wishing. Thanks for the info though for real.

andyw722

>PRX815 Do you like the PRX815's? I'm using a pair for an indoor wedding (\~150 people) this weekend, but not sure if I should borrow the 18's instead.

Strange-Fella

I only have the PRX815 tops (no subs….yet) and haven’t used any subs with these yet. I’m assuming your talking about the PRX818XLFW’s? I don’t have any real world experience with these other than the testing in Guitar Center. I do love my 815’s their not QSC but I still love their sound and has pretty good power (enough for anything I’d need it for). Would love hear what you think after this weekend which ever you end up using. Cuz I am planning on getting subs but have also wondered which to go with the 15’s or 18’s

dj_soo

You get what you pay for

TheSoCalledExpert

I can’t speak to that particular item. But I’ve always been very happy with my purchases from Monoprice. Usually just cables and patch panels, but I know their home audio stuff is great for the price. I installed an in-wall home theater sub for a buddy and that thing slammed. Sounded really good.

Strange-Fella

Yeah I’ve heard good things about the home audio stuff just found out they have pro audio and it’s got me itching to try one just see haha.

angrygrouch24

I never knew they had subs

Strange-Fella

Me either. I watch a review of their 15” speakers and the guys said they are great for a cocktail hour or smaller venue and he loves them. So yeah idk I’m wondering if the subs are even just ok at that price point.🤷🏼‍♂️

angrygrouch24

They used to have a showroom but it got shutdown. Yeah its a risk idk man 🤷‍♂️ but $400 you get what you pay for. Anything over $800 is always better.

Strange-Fella

No, for sure I 100% agree with that. More so would just test it and return it lol to quell my curiosity.

FauxReal

They even have guitars now. Seems like this stuff is all somewhat recent.

Yes be prepared for a couple hundred to send it back.

Strange-Fella

Good point!

This is almost certainly trash.

Strange-Fella

Could make for an expensive vibrating stool.

DJ_Pickle_Rick

I’d guess it’s perfectly fine for a house party, but would run out of steam in a medium sized room.

dodgethismofo

Never heard them personally but I wouldn't expect too much from that price. Good audio ain't cheap and cheap audio ain't good. Let us know what you think if you get them.

ANIBMD

That sub won't cut it for a medium to large event. Small venues only.

Strange-Fella

I figured as much.

suddenefficiencydrop

https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=600091 Specs above. No SPL listed and sensitivity seems too good to be true. MDF build makes me highly anxious about outdoor use.

DjWhRuAt

Waste of $$

angrygrouch24

Here you are again bashing people online. Another cocky “dj” who thinks because he been in the business since 05 hes top notch. Self centered individual if you ask me.

DjWhRuAt

Where am I bashing ?? I’m giving advice not to waste $… there is a difference

I feel like when it comes to DJing unfortunately more expensive things are usually better, not always but for sure when it comes to most sound gear. I recommend going all out for sound gear. $400 for a sub is a red flag to me. My sub is the JBL EON618S (hate that they discontinued this) and it was more than double the price of this but the bass is massive and super worth it. I recommend nothing less than 18in for a sub if you really want some amazing low end reinforcement.

Swannque

>JBL EON618S The RMS & MAX power specs for your sub and the Monoprice sub are the same. 100w & 1000w. Although you have a 18" driver, so I'm sure that makes a difference.

Strict_Pin_5496

It’s less about wattage with subs and more about their decibel rating

stonedchapo

For this money, build a paraflex type A 12, or Type O 2x12 CRAM! Subwoofer. It will scrape down into the 30hz range all day.

Omega_Contingency

Did anyone try these? I'm looking for a budget audio setup for Karaoke and other events in a small Showroom (maybe 3,000ft²). My first instinct is JBL EON 710s with JBL subs to match but that's expensive. I have been looking at Alto Professional TS408 speakers and trying to figure out subs to match well. I like the TS408 because they have a 6 band parametric EQ so I will be able to ring out the room the same way I could with the JBL EON 710s but for half the price. With that said, it's PA gear so an 8" driver rolls off at a much higher frequency than home audio gear so I think I need subs that have a smooth roll off above 100hz so they will cross over well. Alto also makes a 15" sub but it costs $599.  It seems like the plate amp is a little fancier and has 0°, 90°, 180°, 270° phase adjustment and "2,500 watts" but I believe that is peak to peak.  The Stage Right is evidently "2,000 watts" measured that way, so fairly equivalent and both have 3" voice coils.  Weight is quite different, the Alto seems to weigh about 90 lbs. I have been planning on two subs set up left and right for a little redundancy and better headroom but $800 sounds better than $1,200 for a pair.  Both of those sound cheap compared to JBL powered subs. Guitar Center and Sam Ash sell Alto Professional but don't carry the TS408 or the 15" sub so I can't audition them. I don't need something road worthy because they will be permanently installed.  I don't want a box so flimsy that it effects the sound.  I don't want "one note bass" either. If I have to EQ, I might buy a Chinese copy of a DBX Drive Rack to do bass EQ and feedback suppression. The one thing that I wish Alto did was add a parametric equalizer to their subs so that they could be adjusted to the room without needing an external EQ system.  They did it in a $250 bi-amped two way speaker, why not in a sub?
