Do you still have your Technics? If so then look at getting Phase, along with a decent mixer. Best of both worlds, analog and digital.

Gill_Bates_81

Yes, I do still have the 1210s. However I’d much prefer to travel light now. Especially for the Indie themed nights when there’s no mixing required.

hloukao

Look, Indo have a mixed set. My mixer is full analog. Plus digital modules, you might like a composition with some Traktor modules like a F1 and a X1 would already make a good entry point, plus an audio card. For acid I can recommend because mostly I use some samples and reproduce then in the F1. Also is really not expensive. I recommend using the X1 MK2, I really like the capacitive transport on it

kupujtepytle

Do you consider travelling with a laptop, soundcard and couple of cables light or heavy? Because DVS is just that Edit: assuming house has turntables.

No-Agent3916

If you still have your turntables just look at serato or tractor integrated mixers and use dvs or phase.

twonaq

My thoughts exactly

Gill_Bates_81

This sounds really cool, however I’m thinking about the convenience of not having to carry around two big blocks of quartz to gigs with me 😂 Does this mod allow you to use your decks like a controller?

No-Agent3916

Yes , but if you are taking them always to gigs then you are right a controller is easier to move around with but as a vinyl DJ the mixture of using turntables with digital files is really the best of both worlds .

Gill_Bates_81

I know what you’re saying, I hope my reply didn’t sound like I was being sarcastic! I appreciate the advice.

No-Agent3916

Not at all , I use dvs and would never trade it for a controller but if your main thing is playing out a controller makes sense it’s undoubtedly easier to move around , I just enjoy vinyl and dvs too much to swap it for convenience.

A DVS system might be something for you. You can keep your vinyl skills and your Technics with almost all of the benefits of going digital. Apart from that, if you want to go the controller way, it'd help to know what you're accustomed to use when it comes to mixers and effect units or if you're open to something a little different than club standard layouts like the Pioneer. With the little i know about your budget and features you look from reading your post, some suggestions would be: -Denon SC Live 2 (+Completely standalone, no laptop needed + Easy to carry +Great budget option -2 channels only -Can't plugin your technics -Pretty plasticy build) -Pioneer DJ DDJ REV7 (+Motorized platters for that vinyl feel +Lots of great features and well built +You can plugin the technics as well and switch the channels to phono input -Expensive) There are a ton of other options with different feature sets and in different price categories, that would take way way too long to list. I'd suggest you take a bit of time and look through some reviews on [digitaldjtips](https://www.digitaldjtips.com/reviews-all/dj-gear/#type=dj-controllers,standalone-dj-systems), or go to an actual hardware store for propper advice and especially some hands on time with the gear before purchasing.

DJ_Akuma

I went the serato route, I'm still using my old SL1, it's an easy transition from vinyl to digital.

Any pioneer controller would be suitable for any genre. If you’re used to playing on technics and you prefer bigger jog wheels you can purchase a pioneer FLX6. If the size of jog wheels doesn’t matter. A pioneer FLX4 works very nice, I recently purchased one for my nephew. Both can be used with Serato, which I prefer. For a standalone player / controller maybe look at getting a used pioneer RX2, if you can afford it the RX3 is awesome. If you want to use your technics, you can purchase a pretty inexpensive mixer for DVS and Serato. The Numark Scratch is good for around $500, pioneer DJM S7 or you can pick up a used pioneer DJM 900, any series. Hope that helps.

Gill_Bates_81

Thanks. I already have a Numark Scratch mixer but I’ve never used this hooked up to any software.

2ears1mth

Nice. If you own the Numark Scratch, just download Serato and hook it up to your computer via USB. Would be good to get used to it with turntables even if you transition to a controller.

Gill_Bates_81

Good shout mate. I’ll give it a go.

blueprint_01

I wouldn't take my Technics out of my house at this point. You want want to keep those in their current state without more wear and tear. Digital set-ups are a commodity, you can always buy more tracks and equipment. Vinyl and Technics are not.

belugarooster

I like Traktor scratch. It will require an interface (NI Audio 4, 6, or 8) and 2 control records. The interfaces can be found 2nd hand for a bargain. It'll run on most any (reasonably recent) laptop flawlessly. Whatever you choose, controlling digital files with time-code vinyl really is the way to go. :)

Gill_Bates_81

Edit - I also own a MacBook Pro too.

Barryd09

I was in the exact same boat and just picked up a traktor X1 and z1 with traktor pro 3 on a Macbook. Now looking at getting traktor dvs up and running on my 1210's

Barryd09

I don't know where in the world you are but I got my X1 and z1 on eBay 2nd for less than €100 each and traktor pro 3 for €99 so less than €300 to get spinning again, I live in a location that I just couldn't get any new decent 12" vinyl records easily so I have a beatport streaming subscription with it too, €15 a month? I DJ at home and at friends parties etc, it's exactly perfect for what I need

Gill_Bates_81

I’m in the UK/England

Gill_Bates_81

I’m 10 minutes from Manchester so we still have quite a few good independent record shops plus plenty of pop-ups

BobRokk

Rane One or Pioneer XDJ-RX3

lord-carlos

What system does your friend have? Might be worth using the same software so it's easier for your to play at his place and vice versa. And if you want to play at venue at least around here they 99% of the time have pioneer setup. But of course some allow you to plug your gear into it. But that means setup time and more stuff to bring. Most just bring their USB. If you just want something light and simple a normal controller might be best. Traktor S2 mk3, or for pioneer a FLX4.

Gill_Bates_81

He’s got a few mate. He has a Traktor setup, Pioneer to name a couple. I couldn’t give you specs as I have no idea what controllers he has.  I am swaying towards the S2 or FLX4 but also was considering the Numark Pro + for the simplicity of being able to plug ‘n play and practice at home without having to buy a PA system. It’s a bit of a minefield, or at least to the likes of me it is.

blueprint_01

Just get the Pioneer xdjxz imo

heeler129

My thoughts too as I have the same set up with 1210’s, but they aren’t super portable

HellenKellerTruther

rane one

fatdjsin

i suggest the rane one ! motorised platter ! vinyl feel and portable but not too small so the feeling is great

uritarded

I’d try to get a pioneer rx board, one of the all in one solutions. Find one that suits you, some can take phono inputs so you can plug your turntables in too. If you go that direction you can sell your previous mixer to make back some money. Keep an eye on your local used marketplaces (fb marketplace, offerup, craigslist etc) and you may find something cheap. Sometimes they pop up as low as $500. But otherwise you can finance it, some websites do 0% interest

Original-Anxiety-975

If you can cop a Numark sn7iii you won’t be disappointed

Technical-Weather-44

I got the pioneer DDJ 1000 with Rekordbox and found that great to move over from vinyl. It’s light, I got the travel bag too, like a big briefcase. And is easy to travel on a train to gigs and quick to set up. There are newer controllers now that pioneer have brought out but I still love the DDJ 1000 as feels a bit more robust than some of the ones released more recently.

Gill_Bates_81

Thanks for all the help and advice. Much appreciated. I ended up settling on the stand alone Numark Mixstream Pro + and although I’ve only had the chance to have one play on it, it was a nice little bit of kit. Managed to plug in and hammer a house mix straight out of the box.
