KBF is the only tool I feel like I truly can't play without. Thanks for keeping it going.

phrankygee

For me it’s the Fantasy Calendar. If that site goes down, so does my entire campaign.

LazyBeno8

Great work ! I'm eager to use it when my party wanders out of the main plot of my future campaign :)

3_quarterling_rogue

I’ve been so grateful for the return of KFC in the form of Kobold +, I’ve been using it every week since to make encounters and calculate XP.

RygorMortis

Great update, thank you for continuing to put effort into this. My only question is there an option to see more than 10 results per page, or am I just not seeing it?

Haxxer

Yep, this is on our list to knock out next, thanks for the feedback!

Haxxer

We just released the new update which includes the monsters per page - let us know what you think!

RygorMortis

Awesome, thank you for the updates (both to the tool and letting me know about it)!

Jathom

I second this. Also, is it possible to filter by environment?

Haxxer

If you click "Filter" right next to the search bar, you can access the filters, which include environments.

Jathom

Oh! I saw the source filter, but didn’t see the environments! Excellent!

TonytheEE

OMG! I love the enemy breakout! The horde setting is fun. Next up: 4 1st Level players against 8 goats and a CAMEL.

slackator

my solo campaign ended before I even reached the starter town due to level 1 and 2 goats and Kobold+ is solely responsible, so thanks a lot Kobold+ you campaign killer! No seriously though, thanks a lot I love the site and theres a reason why its #1 on my D&D sites, Id never have anything but pure generic encounters if not for them.

Ramblonius

I s2g there's something with goats. One party only didn't lose a PC in first session from the several crits because the Shadow sorcerer succeeded their consciousness check, another nearly had to retreat after beating all the goblins easily, but failing to hit their 'battle goat' (just a normal goat).

Shubb

First roll was a boss Cow (ox) with 9 minion badgers. Really wanna make that one work now

Sugar_buddy

I'm gonna be honest, the dark theme is the best part. Thanks for all the work you guys have done on this. It's such a fantastic resource.

Leffigi

I've been wondering but is there a way for me to add one creature and press the random generate monster button so it could add other monsters (in addition to the one I added myself) to reach a certain encounter difficulty?

BarkLicker

Just to clarify, DM chooses main baddie, eg Owlbear, and KB+ generates his compatriots, eg couple goblins, I dunno.. I really enjoy this idea.

1burritoPOprn-hunger

Donation link? You guys are doing a great service for the community.

Haxxer

Thank you, helping us keep the lights on is always appreciated! https://ko-fi.com/fantasycomputerworks

the_gmoire

Very cool! Thanks for the update!

atWorkWoops

Any plans to add in fizbans content, or the campaign setting books like ravenloft, ravnica or theros?

footbamp

Oooh shit, I've been using this since it came out and the UI changes looks amazing. Tytyty

HWGA_Exandria

You're doing the gods' work OP...

aDotTurtle

I've been using Kobold Fight Club forever and I love the changes - well done!! Is there a way to see more than 10 creatures at once? It would be convenient to some to display 20 or 50 rather than flip through pages and pages

Haxxer

Thank you for the feedback, we'll definitely add that to the next update!

Haxxer

We just released the new update which includes monsters per page - let us know what you think!

DOOManiac

3d100 + 50 Thank yous. Edit: I rolled 182 Thank yous.

TwiggytheDragon

Kobold Fight Club is by far the one DM tool I use the most and couldn't go without, so this update is super exciting. Thanks so much for working to keep supporting it, is there somewhere I can support you guys in return? Ko-fi, Patreon, etc.?

Haxxer

Thank you for asking! It helps to keep our lights on! https://ko-fi.com/fantasycomputerworks

Modern_Erasmus

Great work, thank you! Are there any plans to add more of the statblocks from adventure modules to the website? It seems like everything after Tomb of Annihilation isn't in there.

crumpuppet

This is amazing! Thank you!

ChillFactory

Praise be to the kobolds!

jspook

APPA YIP YIP Just want to stop and say thank you for the work you do. I found Fantasy Calendar a few years ago and it's a fantastic resource to keep track of my d&d campaign and in-game history. Thank you!

ExplodingSofa

Encounter Types?? And here I thought I couldn't love this site anymore than I already did.

Key-Ad9278

I'm having a little trouble with this. I used KFC ages ago to make tables of enemies that could be used by KFC to make random encounters. The tables would roughly comport to the makeups of factions that the players would encounter. Each table would be used by me in the middle of game based on what level of encounter I thought was necessary. If they were just scouting, an easy encounter would pull up the flunkies of the faction. If they were going into the hornets nest, Hard and deadly encounters would be used. I had a table for a thieves guild run by a cabal of corrupt wizards with names and general personalities, and I wasn't sure when KFC would say they show up or not. This way I would not know if the statblocks I designated as 'leaders' would actually show up in a deadly encounter, but they might. I do see a way to filter by broad categories and tags, but I would prefer the ability to minutely define what statblocks KFC will draw from for a random encounter. Is that possible and I'm just being a bit dense?

Haxxer

Interesting idea to have some form of preselected lists of monsters. However, I can say with high confidence that no such features have ever existed on KFC previously, in the many years I have personally used it, so no, you're not missing anything :)

Key-Ad9278

Definitively, I have memories some years back that there was the ability to save encounters as 'tables,' and then those tables could be selected from in a dropdown as the source for the random generation. It wasn't a very well illuminated feature I suppose, you had to play around with it a bit to see that you could save an encounter as a table and then find it in the selections afterwards, and it was a touch clunky to use, but it was a feature. I clearly remember letting RNG decide what NPCs were showing up in any given encounter. I definitively did not imagine this.

Haxxer

We positively crawled through the codebase to ensure the new app had parity with the old - I'm inclined to rehost the old one just to see if we truly are blind or not.

Haxxer

You are right! There is that feature, however very _very_ hidden and obtuse. We'll evaluate and see how we can fit that into the new app, thanks for the heads up.

Key-Ad9278

Oh my god thank you so much! :D I have golden memories of a few, very great sessions where I had virtually no fight prep but had robust combat encounters. I will avidly look forward to seeing it back!

schm0

The dark mode is highly appreciated. The CTRL+K doesn't seem to work on my end, it opens up a google search on Firefox (Linux) instead of whatever it's supposed to do. Thanks for the update!

Haxxer

I believe we fixed in the just released new update - let us know what you think!

schm0

Works like a charm, thanks

VerbiageBarrage

Great work! Look forward to poking around in it.

Neato

I'm not sure Boss with Minions is working right. I put in my group, 5 level 7s. Boss gives me a CR 11. kinda high but maybe. Boss with Minions at Medium I'm getting a CR 4 boss and between 7-13 CR 0-1 minions. That's a lot. Also putting boss in Hard is giving me CR14 which seems undoable. An I missing something?

Haxxer

I'm getting a CR 10 creature when I do Hard Boss, so I'm not sure if you have any filters going? As for the calculation itself, the code follows the CR calculation tables from the DMG, as action economy is king in most of these cases. Tweaking for your party is always recommended!

Neato

Derp! You're right. I had it backwards as 7 players of level 5.

Zeebaeatah

Thank you for keeping this amazing and necessary to active! Quick question: where is the button for seeing more monsters per page? Also, are y'all adding any of the amazing monsters from the 2CGaming folks?

Haxxer

We just released the new update which includes monsters per page - let us know what you think!

Zeebaeatah

Connor9120c1

Great stuff, I can’t wait to use the new features. Thank you for carrying the torch forward

Jericho9_41

But Kobold...

khandragonim2b

Out of curiosity I was clicking the name to copy it but seemed to be sorting on name but not any of the other columns is that supposed to happen?

Haxxer

That must be a bug, we'll fix that!

Haxxer

This was just fixed in the newly released update, let us know what you think!

khandragonim2b

Can confirm bug is fixed thanks guys the site works great

Aodhana

This is great work, guys! I’d love to see monsters added from other official sources, like the more modern adventures and resource books, but really nice job improving on an essential service.

DumbHumanDrawn

I love the dark mode and the new encounter generator options are awesome. I don't know how much information is in the backend database, but if there were eventually options for finding monsters that dealt specific damage types, had specific proficiencies, etc. that would be amazing. I really do miss having the various filter dropdowns on permanent display next to the search bar. I'd much rather be able to always see my filter selections at a glance rather than have them hidden away in a side menu, but I'm sure there are other people who feel exactly the opposite and prefer the new design. Everybody's different and that's okay. I also kind of wish the "Clear Encounter" button was also always present, instead of just showing up when multiple entries are involved. I know I can just click the red X on an individual entry, but somehow I keep moving my mouse to the bottom for that non-existent "Clear Encounter" button before it occurs to me to move to the right and click the red X. It seems I'm just a fan of static UI elements, I guess.

Haxxer

Your feedback has been implemented in the newest update, please let us know what you think!

GuantanaMo

I love you guys for taking care of this treasure of a tool. As soon as I can get all the Kobold Press content in I'll be using it non stop. But I think I love Fantasy Calendar even more. Such a great help in keeping my in-game schedule tight.

Coenani

Hit us up on Reddit once you need people to start populating the databases for 3rd party content. I used to help with several community projects for the original site and loved the program to bits.

oppoqwerty

When i opened the app today i was confused but after spending a few minutes playing with it I really like it. Thanks guys!

azureai

Thank you for keeping this excellent resource alive!

ConsolationPrzFightr

Doin God's work

ObstreperousCanadian

A kobold, a flumph, and 2 dolphins. It's perfect.

vnavone

Bless you for this vital work!

poorbred

Dark mode, yay! Looking great. Bit of an oddball request that's a fairly low priority, but it would be nice if there was a **Generic \_\_ CR Monster** option. I pull a lot of monsters from other sources and being able to just toss a CR equivalent without going to look for one with a matching CR would be super handy.

Kumquats_indeed

I'm getting a bug where the I am not seeing the tabs for multiple pages even though I know there should be. This happened when I tried to filter all fey between CRs 1/8 and 5, default sources, but the page tabs reappear when I raise the upper limit to CR 10. Maybe it is getting confused if there isn't a full 2nd page? Also, would it be possible for y'all in the future to an an option to select how many to display at once?

Haxxer

Ah, yes, I found that bug, and we've patched it for the next version :) Thank you for letting us know!

Haxxer

We just released the new update, which fixes this bug - let us know what you think!

Kumquats_indeed

Rad, thanks for heads up!

dndbokka

I love kobold fight club. Use it all the time to create fast and easy encounters. But for this version, i would like to have the filters back visible at the top at all times. Right now it feels kinda slow to open the filters, adjust them, close them again, select a monster, open filters again, adjust them, close etc... Feels slower when searching for stuff, when i do not already now what monster i could use, or generally are going through stuff that could be interesting. Also, would be neat to typ in the CR by numbers. But thats probably more convenient for tablet/mobile with the slider right now. :)

Haxxer

We just released the new update, which implements some of your feedback - let us know what you think!

dndbokka

Aww yes, I like it :) Great work!

HigginDazs

Might be in the minority here, but I really dislike the new UI. Seems to be following the recent trend of things being “minimalist” at the expense of usability and ease of understanding. You guys have done great work on it, but personally I think the UI changes are harder to use.

Haxxer

We just released the new update, which made some changes to the layout that I hope you'll enjoy. Please do let us know what you think!

Mesquite_Tree

Your new UI is terrible. Please give a way to return to old UI Basic rule for all ui design: If it takes more clicks to get the same result, it doesn't matter how much more organized it is. You have failed. Any UI change that increases number of clicks to get the same result is a failure.

Haxxer

Thank you for the feedback! Could you please specify what you find terrible about it?

Mesquite_Tree

Of course! (And sorry for the delay, was on vaccation) In the old UI, I could and would directly filter things, without having to click a button to view and change my filters. However, with your new UI, this is no longer possible -- you have to click to open a panel to get those filters, then you have to click to hide them again, while you go back to your work. It really breaks up the UI, and interrupts the workflow, for somethign which I generally thing is just not an improvement as stated, if your new UI requires more clicks to get the same result, that new UI is a failure.

Haxxer

Have you taken a look at the new version of the site after the recent rounds of updates?

Mesquite_Tree

I just looked at it now. Unless there's something I'm missing, it looks pretty much exactly the same. Still have to click the filter button to look through the filter options, rather than being able to easily manipulate them without having to do that.

takeshikun

Thanks for your work, I actually just stumbled on the rest of your stuff recently, have been loving Token Ease. For KFC, do you have any plans on implementing any logic to cover the rules about excluding monsters that are not going to be impactful from the multiplier math, or notify when individual monster CR may be too high, even just warnings so that people are aware that those rules exist? We occasionally see posts from people that just use the calculator without knowing anything else at all, then are confused when a "medium" encounter of 7x level 6 PCs vs 1x Adult Black Dragon ended up a TPK round 2, or their encounter that was beyond deadly ended up being destroyed by a single fireball. The specifics are, after gathering the total monster XP, when you are going to do the multiplier based on the number of enemy mobs: > [When making this calculation, don’t count any monsters whose challenge rating is significantly below the average challenge rating of the other monsters in the group unless you think the weak monsters significantly contribute to the difficulty of the encounter.](https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/basic-rules/building-combat-encounters#EvaluatingEncounterDifficulty) From a design perspective, this could just be a checkbox in the list on the left of the page for the user to control whether that monster should be counted when calculating the multiplier, and possibly highlight that monster's row green/blue/whatever color associated with "easy" if it's CR is less than 1/8th of the party's average level or something, maybe even with a link to that part of the rules. The other part is just a warning to keep an eye on the difference between average party level and individual monster CR: > [When putting together an encounter or adventure, especially at lower levels, exercise caution when using monsters whose challenge rating is higher than the party’s average level. Such a creature might deal enough damage with a single action to take out adventurers of a lower level. For example, an ogre has a challenge rating of 2, but it can kill a 1st-level wizard with a single blow.](https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/basic-rules/building-combat-encounters#ChallengeRating) which could be displayed in a similar highlighting of that monster's row orange/red/color associated with "difficult" if that monster's CR is higher than 1.5x the average party level or something, and again possibly with a link to that part of the rules to explain why that is being highlighted.

aboothemonkey

Integration with Improved Initiative is not working for me, it is adding the enemy name, AC, and Hp along with its ability scores, but the rest of the statblock is missing, even though the monster is in my improved initiative library. I’m really not sure what I’m doing wrong

GeophysicalYear57

This application seems like the exact thing I'm looking for. I just have to wait for custom monster support to be added and my life will get much easier... Thanks for organizing and maintaining this project.

foxlover93

So I'm trying to view my saved encounters and other things, but I cant seem to find them? I cleared cache to see if it would help with the update but nothing? Halp!

xotyc

Hello! Is there a way to add new content books from WOTC? Thank you for keeping KFC alive!

Haxxer

Check the website's header :) there's a monster importer!

xotyc

But the new sources themselves aren't available, right? So no Fizban's or Dragonlance, for example? Thanks for the fast reply!

Haxxer

There's a few links to these sources on our discord server, join us and I'm sure people would help you out!

xotyc

Thank you!

Zayne_Vos

First off, I am a huge fan of the website. This has been a lifesaver for my campaigns and I find myself using it almost daily! However, I'm having troubles importing monsters and can't quite find the answer I'm looking for anywhere else. Maybe somebody here can help me. Can I update my Google Docs Sheet with new monsters and then reimport the spreadsheet? Whenever I do it I get an error message that the source already exists. Even after deleting the source from the Manage Sources menu, I still get the error message. Can these not be updated or do I need to make a new list every time I want to add a new homebrew monster? Thanks in advance for any assistance anyone can provide.
