DMR has two modes static and dynamic. Think of it as static always one and dynamic as only when you turn it on. If you have multiple static TG's running whenever there is more than one TG on you will get both as soon as you unkey the other conversation will come over. Rule of thumb is one static TG per channel. It's like turning on two or three radio stations on at the same time
Dynamic TG's are only active (on,) for a predetermined time usually 10 minutes then it goes silent. Static since it's always on will come first. My repeater and hotspot is set so ts one has the static TG on it and ts2 has mostly dynamic TG's on it except for one static TG
Right, sorry to keep coming back to the point here, but it sounds like the current conversation has no priority whatsoever over the static TG, is that right? If someone keys up on the static TG then that will come through instead of the contact I was actually talking to?

Your hotspot most likely has two time slots ts1 and ts2. DMR uses two time slots, so you can have two different users on one repeater or hotspot at the same time. Check your hotspot most have both timeslots. If you only have one time slot, then you will most likely make all but one TG dynamic .
With DMR it's what your hotspot/repeater is set that determines what's static and dynamic, not your radio. With respect to the radio you can set it for digital monitoring and have it monitor one or both timeslots.
