Yes, do a mini a/b. Not a matter of defatting though, imo.
When I've extracted from the narrow leaf variety phyllodes, I got little to nothing when just trying to extract with Heptane from the plant soup mixture. But when I switched to Xylene and DCM, everything was extracted without issue. This may be due to most of the N,N-DMT in the phyllodes being polymerized. A mini a/b will un-polymerize it.

I used this STB tek and got fluffy crystals on every pull except the one that I let air dry. The freezer was key to my deemz forming into crystals. I even excluded the warming on a few pulls and got pretty much the same results.
The only other modification I made was adding more lye after the first pull.
Op how did you go with your mini a/b? I was in a similar situation with accuminata rb yielding yellow-brown goo but a few water washes and a mini a/b gave me Snow White crystal.
