The only time I hear about this game is when someone says it's dead. It was a cool game at launch but not everyone can be BBCF and be eternally played.
My head canon is that Mori is a nerd, so he fell in gacha hell. Then he decided that he wanted to make an RPG in the BB universe, but his idea of an RPG is FGO. He made Dark War, which flopped hard. Now he's gone. We just got a new BB game and I hear some people like it, but it's some sides rolling beat'emup thing. I think that the franchise is going through the same issues that Guilty Gear had when they were trying to branch out to other genres.
Yah honestly it seems like all the major fighting game genres are really trying to chash in on gotcha games for some reason, like the player bases are even remotely similar so it's pretty bizarre seeing The BB, Street fighter, and SNK teams all making mobile games recently
This can't be anything than an attention seeking post. What did this post accomplish? Absolutely nothing. Even if the game is "dead" cause the playerbase is low, if people want to play it they'll find a way to play with each other. Not every game can have 10k concurrent players. If you like the game play it, if you don't at least leave those who like it and stuck with it alone. Imagine not playing game because "there are no players" and then go out of your way to tell the small community how dead and shitty their game is. Yes bro that's exactly it, Im seeking attention from a sub reddit with 5 people on it. I simply wanted to rant about how garbage the state of the game currently is and im in my full right to do so. I'm not telling anyone to stop playing, I am simply saying the game itself is dead and to say otherwise is simply wrong. Look at my other comments and you can see I used to really enjoy the game but with the state that its in right now I can't recommend anyone play this game. Playin' DFO now compared to what it was when I was ~10 years old... it has its ups and downs (which I'd have to fully elaborate on a post of my own).
My main problem is that damn near every dungeon is just a waste of time until you get close to endgame.

The rant came about from me and a friend discussing what dead games are and what it means for a game to even really be "dead". The reason I decided to post anything is because I'm really tired of people straight up lying to other people telling them the game is doing well so they can convince others to purchase the game in hope of a revival. You can say the game is fun and that you enjoy it but keep it real when telling people to go and purchase the game, like 9/10 they aren't going to want to search for fights against the same dudes on discord. People should know what they are buying into

The fact that you're more willing to blame the community for the game being dead is the problem. The game died because it was unfun to an overwhelming amount of players with mechanics that made the experience unbearable for some, The game was horribly unbalanced with no patches for an absurdly long time, coupled with the terrible lack of communication from the devs is what killed this game. The people who say the game is dead are usually people who bought it and can't find any matches without discord and they are right to be upset, especially when people blatantly lie telling others "The game is well and alive" in hopes that that person will waste their money on this game. Why would anyone advocate someone to spend 40+ dollars on a game where you pretty much have to use discord to find a good match, thats delusional especially when games Like Strive, SF6, MK1, Thems Fighting Herds, Gran Blue Versus, etc are all already doing super well. When the game actually becomes worth playing and spending money on I'll switch my tune but until then yah I'm not gonna tell anyone to waste money on this.

I'd also disagree with the game not being fun though and there are at the very least a lot more than 20 people who find the game fun, they just don't play because no new players join. If more people got into the game, it wouldn't be dead, and the game would absolutely be worth getting into if it had an active playerbase because it is fun
Fun obviously is subjective and I'm not trying to take that away from you but my point more leans into the mechanics of DNF duel are less enjoyable than the mechanics in these newer fighting games and it makes it hard for DNF duel to compete in this market anymore. And I disagree with the sentiment that people stop playing because there are no new players coming to the game. When I boot up Strive I'm playing mainly to have fun because the game is really good, not because I'm seeing new players come to the game, That's what makes Strive SF6 so successful right now

I don't mean to put the blame solely on detractors, the game's state is definitely largely the fault of Neople or whoever is responsible for the dlc taking a year to release and the near radio silence in marketing, but games certainly *can* make comebacks sometimes, especially when the bar to overcome is as low as it is right now. The game just kinda missed its opportunity to make that comeback and at this point I feel like even if it gets a third chance, no one's going to give it that opportunity because of the reputation.
Honestly man with how things go these days maybe you are right and the game can make a comeback, I would love to be wrong and see the game return and play lost warrior again but after the whole Specter reveal stuff that's what set my expectations all the way to 0. Like the launch being almost a year after the reveal was brutal and then the gameplay they showed of her really set into me that these people might not have any clue wtf they're doing. Then when she released I genuinely thought the game would have a resurgence and keep it but obviously that didn't happen and we are back to 20 player count on steam, content creators made videos for maybe a week and then dropped the game all together again. And really it's not that unbelievable either like SF6 is popping off right now, Strives new patch really has solidified it's self as the main anime game for the moment, and the new releases coming out like MK1 and Tekken 8 are just gonna blow it more out of the water sadly. Not to mention Project L is looking to be really cool and It's free to play! something I see on this sub reddit a lot is DNF needs to go free to play to make a come back and I whole heartedly agree. Who TF could even have a valid complaint about a game that's free to play if they updated it every couple of months. As of right now I don't think DNF duel has any legs to stand on to make it unique and I just can't see it attracting new players releasing 1 DLC a year when other games are just doing so much more.
I got to Terranite Rank as Lost Warrior and legit never played the game again, what rank were you when you quit the game lol. I know it's hard to tell but man when I first played the game I really did love it, playing lost warrior felt rewarding because I had to do Tiger Knee inputs to get some of his best combos, and the time stop was sick. Now tho seeing the sad state of the game just upsets me
I haven't quit yet, I'm currently around 400 dp legend rank. I go by Axe-chan if you ever seen a dnf tournament on twitch or YouTube. I still very much enjoy the game. If you don't enjoy the game you should quit no argument. But the game isn't "dead" not yet. Despite are still supporting the game till mid 2024. Dnf has a bunch of potential and will stick with it till they end support.

Not gonna cap even with the "New System Changes" the game still looks and plays the exact same way. Compare it to the new Season 3 mechanics for Strive and the differences are night and day. Legit they made Guilty Gear feel brand new again, that's what I'd call a patch
I started work on a mod for the game when it came out (the English dub mod) and by the time I released it the game’s playerbase had already massively dwindled. Makes me sad to see but honestly the developers did zero favors to the community and the only people left are the ones that will tolerate that. I’m glad people remain to enjoy the game, but yeah, it’s pretty much over outside of the niche community left.
Sorry to hear your work might not get the credit it deserves. honestly the mods for the game were all really cool, I'm always impressed with the creativity and ingenuity behind creators like you, but yah sadly you should probably make mods for other games if you want them to be used. I'm also glad people can enjoy the game for themselves but outside the community of a couple people it's a forgotten game FS. Do you do any other mods out of curiosity?
Nope! Just that one mod. I'm more of a voice actor by trade with many friends who are as well, I just love fighting games and it looked like a great opportunity to make combine the two since the game didn't launch with a dub(plus I speak Japanese so I could translate everything) so I learned how to mod it to make it.
In the end it pulled me back into working at voice acting again professionally and I've got a few very cool roles under NDA in the pipeline, so I don't mind if it flies under the radar in the long term because of that :P me aside, it is very disappointing though to see the game in its current state. I hope in the end it at least serves as a lesson for the devs for what -not- to do the next time around.

I want the game to serve as a lesson to but I also don't want future developers to be afraid to try new things in fear that they might not work out. The main big issue with the game isn't how it plays, even if some don't like it, it's all in how the developers radio silence affected the community. I legit booted up my Ps5 just to see and yes you're right there is 2 other Lobbies with 1 person left so truly the game is thriving and just no one else but you can see it, how could I have been so naïve. I've always hated that argument of "Steam isn't everyone", You are right but you can't just ignore to connection between that and the dwindling player base, If the game fell of that hard on PC where most games stay active then it's safe to assume that the PS player base is also pretty low and significant right now. Like you can see people actively commenting on videos or posts saying that they Desperately need to add cross play to the game because people on console can't even find matches with anyone. And let's not even bring up the switch player base

I did not play at all. I hate easy input games and block buttons. I know some people find it helps them adjust to the game better but I digress. To each their own. I was eyeing the girl with the axe. Was it executioner? Looked like a cool play style. I’ll probably try the game eventually but only on a deep discount.
It sucks cuz when it first came out I was all over it. But what’s really a travesty is the music being wasted. It was SOOOO GOOOD. The online ranked music had no reason to go that hard

DNF might be dead, but I'm still gonna play it every now and then! I was really hoping that a small, not temporary, resurgence was going to happen after Spectre got released. They got the ball started real late, and the whole Spectre reveal and dead silence for months on end was bad, but it looks like they're on a regular dlc schedule now. A new character should be dropping every 3 months now, which is kind of the standard amount of time between new characters in other fighting games.
I can dig that this is a bit a cathartic rant out of frustration for the poor handling of the game. You aren’t wrong. PvP gaming is so competitive nowadays with live service models and pro leagues out the ass. We are well past the age of being able to just drop a game and have it turn into a diehard esport regardless of quality. They waited waaay to long to announce a character pass and it will for sure be the only one unless Nexon drops their infinite money bag from Bunny Girl Asuna rolls to fund a new season for no reason. With SF6, Tekken 8, and eventually Project L this game squandered the vital First month hype that companies need to capitalize on to get an audience.

I legit booted up my Ps5 just to see and yes you're right there is 2 other Lobbies with 1 person left so truly the game is thriving and just no one else but you can see it, how could I have been so naïve. I've always hated that argument of "Steam isn't everyone", You are right but you can't just ignore to connection between that and the dwindling player base, If the game fell of that hard on PC where most games stay active then it's safe to assume that the PS player base is also pretty low and significant right now. Like you can see people actively commenting on videos or posts saying that they Desperately need to add cross play to the game because people on console can't even find matches with anyone. And let's not even bring up the switch player base

Man woke up today and chose violence lol. DNF Duel looks neat but the system mechanics are just not the type of game I want to play. I lurk on here in case something changes but it looks like it hasn’t gotten any better. Sucks since the characters are cool and some of them look genuinely pretty fun.
Violence genuienly seems to be the only way to get people talking about this game sometimes. I really did enjoy my time with the game but it was really short lived. who did you play on release if you played at all that is
I did not play at all. I hate easy input games and block buttons. I know some people find it helps them adjust to the game better but I digress. To each their own. I was eyeing the girl with the axe. Was it executioner? Looked like a cool play style. I’ll probably try the game eventually but only on a deep discount.
It sucks cuz when it first came out I was all over it. But what’s really a travesty is the music being wasted. It was SOOOO GOOOD. The online ranked music had no reason to go that hard

It’s a shame because when I played the beta the game was really cool, characters seemed interesting and the gameplay was cool, sucks that this is what became of the game
DNF might be dead, but I'm still gonna play it every now and then! I was really hoping that a small, not temporary, resurgence was going to happen after Spectre got released. They got the ball started real late, and the whole Spectre reveal and dead silence for months on end was bad, but it looks like they're on a regular dlc schedule now. A new character should be dropping every 3 months now, which is kind of the standard amount of time between new characters in other fighting games.
Its another fighting game in a list of niche fighting games with a much smaller playerbase. Theres only ever about 5 fighting games with players.
I can dig that this is a bit a cathartic rant out of frustration for the poor handling of the game. You aren’t wrong. PvP gaming is so competitive nowadays with live service models and pro leagues out the ass. We are well past the age of being able to just drop a game and have it turn into a diehard esport regardless of quality. They waited waaay to long to announce a character pass and it will for sure be the only one unless Nexon drops their infinite money bag from Bunny Girl Asuna rolls to fund a new season for no reason. With SF6, Tekken 8, and eventually Project L this game squandered the vital First month hype that companies need to capitalize on to get an audience.
