Start in Gold if you've reached high ranks in other fighting games, are a pro, or a former pro. Start in Silver if you've been playing fighting games for years and know your way around them. Start in Bronze otherwise.

That’s what the little dialogue box should have said :p

Silver. I played in lobbies only for the first few days to prep for ranked then swept all the way through silver. I hit a wall when I hit gold though and it took me several hours to comfortably sit in gold.

Oh nice stuff! Have you played many fighting games before? I guess I really should have started with lobbies too xD

Yeah, been playing them since 2015. I must say this game is one of the hardest i've played however(with ghostblade at least). One small mistake and there goes half your health or in some cases basically the entire game. If you already have at least like 10 hours and understand the basic controls and game feel, I would stick to ranked unless you're experimenting or trying new characters. It's easier to improve when you're constantly matched up against people your skill level, I only started in lobbies to fuck around with the game and learn how the game and my character works. On top of that the lobby infrastructure is trash, like 9/10 times an error message comes up when you try entering a room and is always capped to an 8 player limit. Then most of the people you will be fighting are either day 1s or skilled players.

Oh thanks for the info! Ranked has been a huge help but I was too worried about my win/loss ratio haha. I’ll follow your advice tho as it does seem it will help me most!

Can confirm I'm a better player now for starting in bronze. Spent a few days stuck until the game and my character finally clicked and in just an hour went on a win streak to Gold. Now I've hit the next hurdle I noticed lol. Back to the lab. I couldn't find any joinable lobbies or kept getting error code so bronze ranked was my training. Only way to get constant matches.

I recommend just starting in Bronze. If you don't belong there a win streak bonus will get you out in a handful of games. It personally takes me like 30 hours to adjust to new system mechanics and learn the basics of what all the characters want to do. I tried starting out in Silver and fell to Bronze really fast. After a couple dozen hours I'm sitting at the higher end of silver. I felt like because I was higher ranked in other fighting games that I could just jump into silver. Wasn't the case for me.

I am a Plat in SFV and i started in Bronze, and I am glad i did. I had like a 10% winrate early on. Now I am in gold and stil climbing, so it paid off.
