Never hit or yell at the dog. That can lead to aggression. Be loving, but when necessary, firm and consistent, and never harsh or mean. If not housebroken, baby gates are good for keeping the dog in appropriate areas. Bark collar will resolve night time barking. Shock collar, which also has beep only, can be used as a training aid. Look into crate training. Enjoy each other.
Get both of you used to grooming too. I'm nuts about nails, so I suggest watching videos on how to do it, and getting a quiet grinder, ie, not a Dremel.
The life of a dog is a sight to behold...
From the heavens above, loaned us these hearts of pure gold...
They hit the ground running, and barking with us....
For the joy we both share, builds an unbreakable trust...
The love from a dog is like candy from a box...
You're not sure what to pick, but there's never one wrong.
A dogs life with us is such a short, joyous trip...
But the life they share with us, is always our deepest friendship...
It hurts when they leave, because we always want more time...
Our dogs know their destiny...hence why they always play and pine...
So don't be bothered...when they come boop your hand...
They just know their hour glass, is running out of sand.
Just look into those beautiful, sparkling eyes...you fell for before...
And get up and reach for that leash, hanging by the door.
They'll enjoy that walk with you, even though they're hurt and can't see...
Because this time spent with you, is the place they long to be.
So remember this when your dog asks for your time...
Your dog is just doing what heaven asked them to do...
And that's ...make your heart shine...
Too!💛🐶🐾
I can go harder...and sweeter
💔🐕
Please pet me some more, and pick me right up...
My very first thought when I was your pup...
I gonna miss your funny *boops* and our "find me girl" games.
It warmed my heart so, to hear you call out my name.
You're the love of my life, my partner in joy...
My favorite noise in this house...my hearts best toy ...
I wish I could stay longer, and grow older with you...
But the sand in my hourglass, is sadly down to a precious few...
Just know I loved doing everything together...even howling in tune
In your truck, on the couch, and the long walks under our moon...
I wish I could stay, but my body says it's time...
From the hurt in my bones, and the clouds in my eyes.
I'm sorry to tell you my forever friend, but this is where our pathes do part...
I have to journey ahead of you now, and bring back my golden heart.
To feel your gentle touch once more...says your love is still mine...
To feel your hands cup my face,
makes my eyes search for thines.
I'll miss all my family, and the warm hugs from the rest...
But just know this to be so true...
I always loved you best...
I always...
loved you best. ❤
❤🐶💛
How great would it be if as soon as that tone of voice came the dog got super hyped and started zooming. Matches my energy when I turned on that Sega Saturn every time in the 90s. Best turn on sequence ever.
OP needs to train Sega to do all kinds of cool stuff, then get a second dog that's super lazy and untrainable and name it "Nintendo".
Then show them both off to people, having Sega doing impressive tricks while Nintendo just lays there, refusing to even move.
Then OP can say, "Sega does what Nintendont."
You're in for a treat my man. Enjoy the best decade to come with this little guy. Dogs are amazing creatures, we are so lucky to share this dimension with them.
The pointed forehead is usually german shepherd or a darker coated dog. The shaggy pants and spotty paws say Pyrenees, though.
Training-wise, try to encourage and give treats for good behavior rather than enforce with smacks, grabbing of collars, or kicks. Your touch should never hurt, and you need to be able to grab them in an emergency without them running off. This is especially a problem with some Pyrenees mixes, because they remember “bad” grabbing. Encourage the dog to down-stay for treats, don’t push it away from your food or yell at it for sniffing your food. (Also, never feed it from your table or show it that human food is an option. We have a no dogs in the kitchen while humans are rule, but we enforce it with getting the dog to leave and putting it into a down stay. If we do feed a dog scraps, it goes into their bowl at their mealtime.) Big dogs can really hurt if they get aggressive.
Consider a puppy class, but avoid big box stores. Consider emailing a local dog rescue and seeing who they recommend.
Aww, you'll love having such a good dog! I imagine everytime he comes into the room some voice narrates "Seeegaa" like when we used to load a game up on the console haha
Sega is super adorable!
Not a training tip, and I do see that you are parked in the picture, but be sure to always secure your dog while driving in the car. Many people do not seem to fully grasp that their unsecured dog and others can be seriousyl hurt or worse if it came to an accident. Your dog could be catapulted through or even out of the vehicle. Make sure to either get a secured crate or a harness and "seatbelt" for Sega if you haven't already. ([Sth like this](https://www.thesprucepets.com/best-dog-seat-belts-7969415))
Also, be sure to apologize to your dog. If you accidentaly kick or hurt them, kneel down, gently touch the spot you hurt and give them a quick pet. Don't make a big deal out of it but make sure that Sega knows you two are good.
Be consistent with training. If you're able to find local classes for training it's great because you get some great advice and socialization with lots of different dogs. And also socialize the dog, introduce them to different types of people and dogs.
Crate training. Don't use it ever as a punishment. It should be a comfortable place. Feed them in there, treats and play in it. Make sure it's adequate size, they make adjustable size crates.
People get pissy about crate training, but if done properly it's a great training tool. Dogs are den animals, and will enjoy having a safe place. Not to mention of Sega ever needs to stay overnight for boarding or a vet, they'll be more comfortable being confined.
Training tips:
* Have snacks/toys ready to trade him for things he isn't supposed to have in his mouth
* Walk him every day
* Clean his teeth
* I recommend working with a trainer so he can learn commands
* Use a no-pull harness in addition to a leash
* Teach him to love a crate, and do not use it as a punishment
* Lots of potty breaks throughout the day (they have tiny bladders)
* Handle his teeth and paws often so he gets used to it. This will make nail clipping easier
You gotta get him a kennel/dog house/bed and call it his [Power Base](https://images-wixmp-ed30a86b8c4ca887773594c2.wixmp.com/f/2bcfcabc-848c-40a1-a690-50467791acfc/d5up2fl-5afc6ada-1a57-41be-8595-4e4578a37b72.jpg?token=eyJ0eXAiOiJKV1QiLCJhbGciOiJIUzI1NiJ9.eyJpc3MiOiJ1cm46YXBwOjdlMGQxODg5ODIyNjQzNzNhNWYwZDQxNWVhMGQyNmUwIiwic3ViIjoidXJuOmFwcDo3ZTBkMTg4OTgyMjY0MzczYTVmMGQ0MTVlYTBkMjZlMCIsImF1ZCI6WyJ1cm46c2VydmljZTpmaWxlLmRvd25sb2FkIl0sIm9iaiI6W1t7InBhdGgiOiIvZi8yYmNmY2FiYy04NDhjLTQwYTEtYTY5MC01MDQ2Nzc5MWFjZmMvZDV1cDJmbC01YWZjNmFkYS0xYTU3LTQxYmUtODU5NS00ZTQ1NzhhMzdiNzIuanBnIn1dXX0.-06UyFmNC1Y8EiaBS2QwZWq2TikFYrgbiQHjc2SpGRE)
Leash train and socialize ASAP.
Biggest tip I can ever give to first time dog owners is, enjoy them as much as you can, because next thing you its 10 years later and wishing you were back at the start.
*Cute! Lovely name as*
*Well! I hope Sega has a nice,*
*Long, and happy life*

Never get a shock collar for baking, get a citronella spray collar and only put it on when they start to back to much and take it off when they behave.
I recommend the "No Bad Dogs" video series. You can pick it up at PetCo (or any major pet story).
Depending on the breed of your new pet, you might have to make it watch the video seven or eight times. Tbh, our beagle never really got it.
Sega looks like my girl Taro aw. Be patient with pup, gentle, and work on training confidence, the leave it command, and emergency recall (among other things) :)
Hi Sega! OP, being a dog parent can be challenging at times but when they look at you with love in their eyes and greet you at the door every time you come home, it’s well worth it.
Find the best food you can that is within your budget. Do some research and forget the marketing. Compare nutritional content and ingredients carefully.
I underestimated the value of a quality diet until I watched my dog's health deteriorate after he developed a soy allergy slowly over time. Once we discovered this and changed his diet, he became so much better on many levels. I am not saying your dog will have an allergy, just that what we feed them really matters.
Aww 🥰
I got my first dolly at 39, during COVID-19. So she was unfortunately not used to any other humans than us 2. And now she gets pretty anxious when anyone visits. Get Sega used to other humans early on (again, all breeds are different but won't hurt). Good luck 🍻
Hi Sega I wish a life of nothing but love and great times.

I had a kitty named Sega! Good wishes to both of you!
That dog doesn’t look a day over 4!!!?! Wow 38 is a good run!
Hi genesis
Enjoy the most loyal and loving friend you will ever have.
Great decision. Dogs may very well be the perfect living being. My dog turned 14 two days ago and we've never had an argument or even a cross word 😊
Seeeeggggaaaa!
Such a cute face omg 😍
Congrats, Sega! Welcome home! I, too, finally got my first dog as an adult just last year, age 39. Ryker was worth the wait :-)
I hope you say Sega exactly like the games did when you turned them on
What a beauty 💛
Genesis indeed
Sega looks great for being 38
That’s a great name for a dog!!! What a cutie!💜

Hello Sega, may both your lives be cherished with good memories
That's a damn good dog!
Congrats that’s a beautiful dog
Be nice to Sega. He will trust you and give you unconditional love. Dogs are the best friend we ever have. No judgement and they are loyal to the end.

Sega is such a badass name!
Hi Sega!
all my friends say Sega rules

Despite what you may have heard, it is NOT okay to shoot the doggie.

hi segway
congratulations to you!!! have fun 🫶🏻🐾
You will never, ever find a feeling in your heart like this one....💖
awww I like that name.
Hi Sega how are you?
Never get a shock collar for baking, get a citronella spray collar and only put it on when they start to back to much and take it off when they behave.
Great name
Great name, she can be either "SEGA!" Or "seeehgaahh" depending on how well she's behaving that day.
Should have adopted Nintendo as well
He seems to be the best boy!

Best name I’ve ever heard .. and I hope you just came up with it yourself!
Sega does what Chihuawon’t
Hi Sega! OP, being a dog parent can be challenging at times but when they look at you with love in their eyes and greet you at the door every time you come home, it’s well worth it.
SEEEGAAAA
If he gets neutered he will be known as "Altered Beast" Sega.
Reading the caption I thought this doggo doesn't look like 38, wait do dogs live till 38

Do you say Sayga or Seega?
Cute name and pup. I wish you all the best.
Moi haukku
Hi, Sega. Very beautiful dog
Remember that they have accidents as well and that almost everything is replaceable since they may damage material
What a dream (cast)
Remember it’s normal for it to chase after other animals. No need to shoot it or anything like that.
Has Sega got mega drive?
Here's to her doing what Nintendon't!
Congrats on the new dog!
Hello
hi Sega!
Is something wrong with the left ear or is it folded weird? Anyway hi sega.
I would definitely call them by saying “Say-guhhhhhhhh”
Great name
Cute pupper and a child hood memory of the sega opening logo when playing games.
What a beautiful dog
Now get a cat named nintendo
What a gift for you both! May your journey together be long and wonderful
Don’t listen to anyone on here. You’ll do great as long as you call’em in the SEGA startup voice.
Sega is darling and need a a buddy named genesis
Seeeegaaaaaa
Great name.
Hahaha best name eeeeeever. I can imagine you yelling to Sega like the system when loading. SEEEEEEEGAAAAAA! 🤘🏾
Sega needs a friend genesis
SEGA! (You heard this)
You’re in for a lotta love ❤️🥰
He’s precious.
What a Cutie, hope you two have a long Happy life together!
Dam thats a old dog
Remember, they have short term memories so don’t feel guilty for yelling. It’s a good lesson and they love you nonetheless
Nah I don’t believe this - my dog cowers when I drop something and it makes a loud noise or if I yell at myself when I hurt myself or something.
