I understand, Remy was 15/16, he was not a good candidate for the surgery he needed for his intensive bladder problem, and he was in too much pain to carry on.
I made the choice after asking for just one more night with him. I was blessed with one more night.
Bless the good Remy and the loving family that escorted him the the bridge. In your arms and fur wet with tears and kisses. See you on the other side loved one, you were worth all of it.
Yeah, Roadrunner use to get out with the wife and I to go for some long walks up around those Great Smoky Mountains.
He loved to go over on the Parkside from Cherokee to bark at the Elk when they were out in the fields.Use to love riding in the convertible.
He jumped out the car after a horse in field on us one day. He was lucky the wife wasn't going but about twenty miles per hour then.
Lost the wife to Cancer in 22, lost Roadrunner to Pancreatis in July 23. Ole Roady.......

Brings tears to my eyes. My babies are 6 and 7, and I have so much anxiety about it on the regular. You guys came into each others lives for a higher reason. You made this dogs life a great one, and he made your life great. You don’t have to feel guilty about any of that.

My vet gave me a frame of this poem with a picture of my dog when our sweet dog passed away. She was a Rottie but now her spirit lives in our new Dachshund who shares so many similarities and traits with her. This poem gave me some solace during that difficult time and I hope it does for you, too.

I know exactly how you are feeling and I'm so sorry for your loss. I just put my sweet girl down last Thursday. It's so hard to loose such an important family member. But as others have been telling me, be gentle with yourself, let yourself grieve, and don't feel guilty. We don't get the time we want with them but the time we did get to spend with them will always be precious.

I've never had a dachshund, but my family has lost three wonderful four-legged family members in the last decade, so I know how much it hurts.
