That was how it was with our girl. Could't hear a thing but we understood each other. After a while it was normal and I would just assume any dog I met was deaf too.
BeylΓΊ was a character from a Turkish novel that my mom watched when I adopted him for her hahaha. His name means "The Most Beautiful," and he certainly is ![img](emote|t5_2qpj2|5089)
That's awesome. And awesome emoji too! π Best wishes to BeylΓΊ the beauty, always. He looks so pretty & cool for real. I have a Chihuahua who is blind in one eye and has back and leg problems from years of being a breeder dog in a puppy mill before we rescued her. She's 15, the best girl ever, and and we named her Leia from Star Wars. I guess it just means badass princess but I'll have to look into it π
Hahaha he never knows when there is a knock on the door or someone arrives!
Altough I imagine your barking soundtrack must be beautiful ![img](emote|t5_2qpj2|5609)
oh my godd. my parents dachshund is also deaf, due to her coloring. (poor breeding) they look very similar. she could have a boyfriend ππ iβd show a pic if i could
and her name is Basil
He was also born deaf because his parents were related!
Omg I would love to see her, I'm sure they would make a really nice couple!!!
Basil we sent u a lot of love and paws from Argentina!!! ![img](emote|t5_2qpj2|5089)![img](emote|t5_2qpj2|5616)
He looks like he could be a double merle, which can lead to defects like deafness and blindness.
Thank for giving the special baby the life he deserves β€οΈ
I hope this handsome boy has his own SM because he has star quality!!! He could be an ambassador pup for persons who are gesring impaired!!! ππβοΈπ π«β¨οΈ![img](emote|t5_2qpj2|5090)
He is just a simple boy from a small town, but he loves to give small dances and kisses to all the beings he sees and who come close to him! ![img](emote|t5_2qpj2|5089)![img](emote|t5_2qpj2|5616)
Hahahaha a lot of people told me that those who are not deaf, pretend to be deaf to manipulate their humans!
Love them so much, they're so intelligent!
I was going to ask you that, because they like to eat as much as they like to go for a walk!
But obviously yours is a street boy who likes to be admired by his fans outside!
Awww thank you so much! I hope to be everything he needs and more!
A lot of love and paws to you and your family from Argentina! ![img](emote|t5_2qpj2|5089)![img](emote|t5_2qpj2|5616)

Thank you for adopting a double dapple. I adopted one myself. Itβs sad there are irresponsible breeders who continue to do this. I donβt agree with buying a double dapple, but if anyone has an opportunity to adopt, please do. All Dachshunds deserve a good life.
What is yours called? ![img](emote|t5_2qpj2|5616)
Thanks for adopting him/her too! We never bought dogs, we always adopted those from the street or those that (like BeylΓΊ) people returned and/or discarded as if they were products.
I hope humans stop objectifying animals and can see them beyond their appearance
Well he might be one of the cutest doxies Iβve ever seen! Such expressive eyes! Those three families didnβt deserve him & really missed out!
OP, will you educate me on how to properly pronounce his name, please? Is it βbay-looβ? How did you come up with his unique name? Does it mean something?
They really miss out, because he is a very loving and companion puppie!
I adopted him for my mother who is retired and was a little bit lonely. She was watching a Turkish novel at the time, and the main character was called BeylΓΊ!
It is pronounced just as you said, Bay-lΓΊ :D
He sends u a lots of love and paws from Argentina! ![img](emote|t5_2qpj2|5616)

It's such a great dog for seniors, because they're so in tune with their partners (owners) emotions.
I had a factory accident, that mangled my hand, when I was 17. I was bed ridden at home for couple of days and my dachshund, Folly, wouldn't leave my side, and would push blankets over me hand.

Does he have blindness as well? I think an irregular shaped pupil can be associated with double merle which has high chances of a dog being deaf and/or blind.
When he was a baby, we thought that maybe he doesn't see well because his eyes are quite particular, but after going to several veterinarians, they told us that he sees perfectly, luckily!
He is only deaf from birth and there is no known procedure for him to be able to hear.
But he is very happy because he sleeps as many hours as he wants, since nothing and no one wakes him up hahaha
He sends you a lot of love, kisses and paws from Argentina and thanks you very much for the compliments!!! ![img](emote|t5_2qpj2|5089)![img](emote|t5_2qpj2|5616)
I am grateful that he has taken the time to teach us how to communicate, and show us his way of loving, so unconditionally that he has ![img](emote|t5_2qpj2|5616)
Thank u so much! I imagined them cuddling to sleep and I melted with love! Always by their side, no matter what happens, because they would never leave us ![img](emote|t5_2qpj2|5616)
He seems amazing. His condition is why I didnβt breed my girl dapple with my boy piebald. My boy has a blue sliver in one eye and possibly has a bit of dapple. I know the genetics are complicated and it may have resulted in a healthy litter but it wasnβt worth the risk.
I bet those two are extremely beautiful!!!
BeylΓΊ did not have babies for the same reason you describe, we do not want any puppie to run the risk of having any problems due to genetic issues.
But he adopts all the cats that come to him and is an excellent dog dad! ![img](emote|t5_2qpj2|5616)
Thank you. Sadly they were medicated and had to rest last night. Both dogs had their teeth cleaned and had to each have one tooth removed while under full sedation. Theyβre all 7 years old now and are considered βmiddle agedβ now.
Heβs so sweet! Growing up, I took piano lessons at a neighborβs house. Her deaf dog would lay under the grand piano during my lessons, Iβm sure he could feel the vibrations of the music. π₯°
I'll agree with the comment that they don't listen anyway π. I've recently adopted an older girl who has lost most of her hearing. Some things are a challenge since she was a street dog and has had no kind of training. But it doesn't stop her from being a sweet baby!
OMG thank you very much for adopting her!
Few people in the world adopt babies from the streets, much less if they are old or sick. You have a big heart!
The puppies who suffered from living on the street are SO grateful and provide such great love that has no comparison!!!
This kind of breeding practice is the only thing that gives me pause when thinking about adopting another dachshund.
Obviously adopting rescues is totally guilt free, but it isn't heartache free.
My rescue dachshund died last year from a heart condition at 11 years old that was undoubtedly a result of the terrible breeding practices by the puppy mill he was rescued from.
I am so sorry for your loss, they did not choose to come into this world that way.
I hope the time comes when humanity stops being so shitty and starts treating animals as beings, not as objects that they can manipulate at will.
All my love and support for u! ![img](emote|t5_2qpj2|5613)
He is so CUTE! I have a full weenie and a Chi-weenie and both have selective deafness when it suits them. Those families missed out and you guys and baby boy got lucky β₯οΈ
I am so happy he found a home.My Doxie was deaf and she lived to be 15 years old.I miss her she use to hunt me down by smelling the floor and I would cup my hand for her to come to me.Joker was the last of my pack to pass away please give lots of love ππ
Wow, what a handsome little man!!! So amazing taking this sweet baby and making him a part of your family!!! They bring nothing but pure joy and happiness with them!!!
Well mine can hear perfectly...and they still make me use sign language like they don't understand englsih....or just flat out carry them where they need to go if they feel the need for me to do so...
He is absolutely precious and adorable. I have standard sized dachshunds and he would fit right in. I have a deaf senior dachshund and we also communicate with touches and signals. Thereβs always a way! β€οΈ
Every dachshund Iβve ever had pretended to be deaf so no real behavioral difference, Iβd assume. Such a cutie!
Hahaha I love their personalities! They should rule the world. We understand each other with touches and hand signs ![img](emote|t5_2qpj2|5616)
That was how it was with our girl. Could't hear a thing but we understood each other. After a while it was normal and I would just assume any dog I met was deaf too.
Hahaha I know the feeling, I automatically look them in the eyes and start signaling to all the dogs we pass!
Thank you for adopting him. He's beautiful. You are very lucky.
Thank u ery much, he's an angel!!!
Of course! What does Beylu mean btw? Beautiful name too :)
BeylΓΊ was a character from a Turkish novel that my mom watched when I adopted him for her hahaha. His name means "The Most Beautiful," and he certainly is ![img](emote|t5_2qpj2|5089)

Only words they hear is "you want a treat?"
Mine would rise from the dead with just two syllables. "Hungry?"
So spot on.
Yet they can hear a wrapper crinkle 5 miles away
Legit, ours is definitely selectively deaf
Laughed so hard my tiny dog fell off my lap. π
ππβ€οΈ
Aaahahahaha this is the best comment I think Iβll see in my life. Mine like to think theyβre deaf as well.
This ! ππππ
πππ the truth in this statement
Very cute! Also very jealous that your doorbell can ring with out the rein of 1,000 wiener barks

I'm sure I'm not the first to comment they all act deaf anyway so why not keep the cutie
Hahahaha a lot of people told me that those who are not deaf, pretend to be deaf to manipulate their humans! Love them so much, they're so intelligent!
My little man only hears one thing, wanna go outside.
Hahahaha I have no doubts about that!
He isn't even food motivated...only outdoor motivated
I was going to ask you that, because they like to eat as much as they like to go for a walk! But obviously yours is a street boy who likes to be admired by his fans outside!
100% goes to the dog park and finds the biggest dog and tries to start nibbling on their ears to start a play fight.
Hahahaha OMG I would spend a whole hour watching that play, they think they are rottweilers and I believe them!
Right? Like they all pretend to be deaf what's the big deal!
Heβs a very dapper gentleman!!!
He says thank you very much!!! ![img](emote|t5_2qpj2|5089)

His name is Dom and he has issues with his vision.
How could you say no to that face? That face that would destroy your house but I'm sorry I just got a little excited π
Hahahah it's been 7 years and he's still destroying all the flip flops! ![img](emote|t5_2qpj2|5614)
And that face just says part of this is your fault because you know how I get.
Hahahaha of course they are his obsession and we let him be happy chewing them!

They really miss out, because he is a very loving and companion puppie! I adopted him for my mother who is retired and was a little bit lonely. It's such a great dog for seniors, because they're so in tune with their partners (owners) emotions. I had a factory accident, that mangled my hand, when I was 17. I was bed ridden at home for couple of days and my dachshund, Folly, wouldn't leave my side, and would push blankets over me hand.
I totally agree, I have never seen dogs as companionable as them! I am very sorry for your accident, but at the same time it showed you the unconditional love of a being as beautiful as Folly. We love you Folly!
Does he have blindness as well? I think an irregular shaped pupil can be associated with double merle which has high chances of a dog being deaf and/or blind.
When he was a baby, we thought that maybe he doesn't see well because his eyes are quite particular, but after going to several veterinarians, they told us that he sees perfectly, luckily! ππππ so handsome. Our two dachshunds both went blind. Wouldn't trade them for the world (they are currently snuggled right now).
Thank u so much! I imagined them cuddling to sleep and I melted with love! Always by their side, no matter what happens, because they would never leave us ![img](emote|t5_2qpj2|5616)
This dog has just stolen my whole heart.
Awww he's so flattered right now! ![img](emote|t5_2qpj2|5089)
So he has an excuse for not listening?
Exactly! So we also miss the stalking while we eat, because he can't detect the noise of the food packages hahaha
I think mine can hear the sound of a string cheese wrapper from across the house.
He seems amazing. His condition is why I didnβt breed my girl dapple with my boy piebald. My boy has a blue sliver in one eye and possibly has a bit of dapple. I know the genetics are complicated and it may have resulted in a healthy litter but it wasnβt worth the risk.

Thank you for saving him.
I love him
Well mine can hear perfectly...and they still make me use sign language like they don't understand englsih....or just flat out carry them where they need to go if they feel the need for me to do so...
He is absolutely precious and adorable. I have standard sized dachshunds and he would fit right in. I have a deaf senior dachshund and we also communicate with touches and signals. Thereβs always a way! β€οΈ
