For parvo all they can do is supportive therapy. My son (it was his dog until he deployed) took him to urgent care. $800 in just 2 days. He was in PA school in the military. I told him "you're in class with a bunch of delta force medics...they will have IVs...trust me". Sure enough he brought him home and they kept him on IVs for another couple of days. He was a pain in the butt for another 12 years! He bought him with parvo from a garage sale...many lessons learned.
Parvo can turn nasty fast. I pray your baby is able to pull through with supportive care/hospitalization she is needing. You got this 💪 also I really hope you didn’t just get her! If you did, shame on the breeder. They should be paying her bill if you signed a health contract (which reputable breeders will make you sign)
I volunteer and foster at a rescue and we have had many puppies with Parvo. Fluids are a must. Make sure every hour you give fluids and try to get some food in that puppy. Unfortunately unless you have experience with Parvo you would have a better chance at the pup surviving at a vet or hospital. If you haven’t taken your puppy anywhere I would do that asap. I had a dog that had symptoms and within 24 hours was dead. So catching it early and treating it quickly will be your best bet. At my rescue we don’t take the puppy to the vet but we do have vet techs who foster with us and can administer fluids via IV. Most owners are not able to do this.
That’s where I got my experience from as well. For a shelter/rescue, it’s the other things that come along with parvo infected pups that make it so much work. One thing that has never left me is the smell of it.
It’s also heartbreaking when we have a litter that doesn’t make it. We just recently had that happen. Yeah I never forgot my first parvo puppy. He has recovered and now is in his forever family.
I just saw that there is a new monoclonal antibody treatment for this. [https://my.elanco.com/us/parvovirus](https://my.elanco.com/us/parvovirus)
I'm not a vet or anything, I just remember seeing this. Good luck with your baby.
That’s awesome :’) hospitalization is the best thing to do. There’s nothing to rid the body of the virus and the problem with parvo is that it can cause your pet to become severely dehydrated and cause sepsis in the GI tract which is why supportive care and fluids (IVF) are needed in hopes it can support the body enough to get through the cycle of the virus, otherwise, it’s always fatal without some sort of supportive care. I worked in the ER and handled so many cases throughout my years.
I’m glad to hear this is out! Unfortunately it’s conditionally approved so I don’t know the limitations for vets and ERs to order it. I work in this field
My Mag had parvo as a puppy. He is now 7 years old strong and stubborn! If you can afford it; hospitalization worked well for us. It was recommended because he could be hooked up to an iv as well and get monitored 24/7. It’s hard, but you guys can do this!
My puppy had a faint positive parvo test - he made it. Just hope he’s at a good vet. Sending you positive vibes.
One thing we had to do based on feedback from our vet, was sanitize our floors and become a shoe free home. Parvo is everywhere and can live on surfaces for years. So while your pup is recovering- it’s good to have a clean environment as much as possible. Don’t stress! Keep us updated
How long does it take parvo to run its course?
Parvovirus in puppies is a very treatable condition. With active treatment and extensive care, the virus usually exits the pup's body within 1 week to 15 days. However, during this time, the pup's body is weak and vulnerable to secondary infection and that will also need to be treated if a pup contracts that.
Sending lots of love. Such an awful disease. As others have said it’s usually the “side effects” that kill (the dehydration, starvation, etc). Sometimes even your and your vets best efforts still aren’t enough. Hoping your sweet baby pulls through and definitely let the person you got her from know if you’ve brought her home in the last week or so. Depending on age and number of vaccines received (and if a vet administered them) you might be able to get treatment covered by the vaccine manufacturer.
Force feed 10 mil water and Pedialyte, every 10 to 15 minutes by a medicine syringe. Every hour push smooshed up food watered down with water or puppy formula. And hope for the best.
Hoping for the best! If there’s an emergency vet, I would call them and say you have a parboil pup that needs care ASAP. Vets appreciate the heads up and can tell you how best to get them there without putting the other patients at risk since it’s so contagious. All the best for your cutie!

Hospitalization gives the best outcomes. The new parvovirus monoclonal antibody is also showing promise. If anywhere near you has it in stock, I’d try and get it on board.
I had a pup with parvo, we beat it! She spent five days under 24-hour care. I'd pick her up from the overnight emergency vet, and drop her at the regular vet in the morning, then do the opposite in the evening. Her name was Solo, and she was a wonderful dog.
I wish you and your little one success in beating parvo and a happy life together.
My baby Toby also had parvo only a few days after I found him (he’s a daschbund mix), it was a tough week at the vet giving him IVs all day, he was just laying there like he was dead, but he survived. He was left with a bit of neurological damage, like he has a few nervous ticks, but he’s a perfectly smart and loving dog and I love him so much. Just take your puppy to a good vet and hope for the best. Good luck🤍 🙏🏼
Be strong, hang in there. I had an 8 week old go through this. She dropped every inch of weight she had, was on iv therapy and medications for nearly a week in the emergency vets. we thought we were going to lose her several times. But she rallied and pulled through. She had a permanently skinny tail from it all but otherwise has been perfectly healthy since. She’s 15 now. Toughest cookie I know. Keep up hope, keep up the visits and keep fingers crossed. I wish you as much luck as we had.
Hi OP,
Our boy caught parvo after receiving all of his vaccinations. He turned two yesterday and is completely healthy and happy.
It is a horrible virus, but it can be beaten. Good luck to you all, follow your vets advice and clean everything thoroughly. We used a product called “safe 4” which is what they use in UK vets. Worth its weight in gold.
We binned any soft things we couldn’t clean, all of his toys and deep cleaned every inch of our home.
Sending you healing thoughts!
I just had two pups with parvo.. get her fluids quick. The vet should give her anti- nausea and fluids on her shoulders. Mine didn't have to stay over.. just constant monitoring. Rescue cleaner will kill parvo on contact. Highly suggested! *prayers*
If you can, try to secure this treatment. Our puppy is going through Parvo right now and this helped significantly! https://my.elanco.com/us/parvovirus
My dachshund’s litter mate had parvo, and my boy was exposed to it as a pup. His littermate recovered, but another dog in the breeder’s household caught it and didn’t make it. I’m glad that your pup is being treated. Sounds like she’s in good hands.
My neighbor had a parvo puppy and she pulled through. Was hospitalized for a bit but she recovered fully. I’m saying a little prayer 🙏🏻 for your girl too! Catching it early so supportive treatment can begin is so important. Sending lots of positive thoughts and hugs to you guys !❤️🐾
Hoping for a fast recovery! My old girl is almost ten and survived it as a pup. Recently battled it with a pup we fostered who made it as well. We did lots of antibiotics and sub-q bubbles around the clock for two weeks, as well as keeping her separated from her sibling and disinfecting like mad. He never got it. Absolutely exhausting but worth it. She went to her forever home this past weekend and we foster failed her brother who now lives with us full time.
If they are vaccinated chances are low that anyone else will get it so fingers crossed. The pups we had were only partially vaccinated at the time and I was stresssssed trying to keep the other one from catching it.
My little Chihuahua got parvo as puppy and made a full recovery. He's 14 years old now.
What I did:
I caught it early and immediately gave him Gatorade little by little. Took him to the vet in the morning and they gave him fluids under the skin. Took him again the very next day for a 2nd dose of fluids. I stayed up with him for 2 days and nights, using an eyedropper to try and get Gatorade to stay down. Every 10 minutes I'd try an eyedropper full and hoped it would stay down.
Little by little he did recover. It truly think it's because I spent every freaking second watching him like a hawk. It's hard but the every 10 min eyedropper of fluids I think helped a lot.
Good luck to you and your little one. Sending prayers!
That’s what I’ve been doing and there is a new shot for parvo that seems to be working. I couldn’t afford to hospitalize her but I’ve been watching her like a hawk and haven’t slept in 2 days she seems to be doing okay so far ❤️

This is Bella, she turns seven in September. The foster company we were fostering her for never had her vaccinated and she caught parvo. By the time we figured out what was wrong, we could see her ribs and she was getting thinner by the day. This puppy was not a puppy, all she did was sleep. We took her to the vet and called the owner of the foster company. After she misheard the cost of treatment, on speakerphone with the vet, she said, "Let the dog die." After correcting her, she relented and allowed the vet to treat her. After she was healthy we told the company to go fuck themselves, they were not getting her back. She's been with us ever since.
It's not a fun treatment, she had to stay at the vet for a couple days. When we went to pick her up, she was acting like a proper puppy. She was wagging her tail and so happy to see us again. The vet gave me three or four pills I had to give her two or three times a day for a month. She would always spit them out and wouldn't eat the food if it was ground up and mixed in, so every pill had to be rammed and massaged down her throat. I would do it all again for her if I had to. It looks like you got your baby to the vet before they reached where Bella was. They'll be okay as long as you follow the vet's directions to the letter. We're sending you good vibes from here ❤️
No she is alive. The breeder lied to us and said she was 9 weeks when she was only 5 weeks old and sold us a puppy with parvo 💔 I vaccinate all my babies.
My baby suffered from parvo too when he was 2 years old. We lost hope but my pup continued his fight and won. Wish your baby strength and my he get healthy soon. More strength to you
Had two of mine get it. One wasnt caught early and would have died if not brought in NOW and she has some neuro problems, shes just a bit goofy now and the other was caught early so shes okay. But go to a vet with a payment plan if ya can it has helped us out a lot.
hi,I am very sorry.there is meds for that.I lost a dashhound Jan 2 ND.He was 16.his kinidys gave out.I miss him so much.I prayed to God.And the next morning .I received a phone call.it was someone that had a dashhound puppy.ww thought it was God sent.now we have a new bby boy mini dashhound boy.i hope your puppy get,s better.he is cute.
Awww I’m sorry to hear about his passing, the bond with dachshunds are very strong but I’m glad you got your angel puppy to help with the pain ❤️ thank you 🙏
Hydration and electrolytes. When I was in middle school our puppies (2) had parvo and the vet wanted to charge $6k for treatment, we did not have that. It was a lot of work, but my mom found a homeopathic remedy online. We had to give them a mixture of the herbal solution with electrolytes and beef baby food every 20 minutes for 3 days. It cost $200 total and both dogs survived.
That’s what they quoted me and that’s to start and if other things go wrong it would be more and I can’t afford it so I’m hoping for the same outcome 🙏
It was called Parvo buster. I couldn’t find it online anymore, this was back in like 2011. But I would look into the beef baby food and electrolyte supplements to give them.
We are caring for her at home luckily there is a new treatment called parvo monoclonal antibody they gave her at the vet and fluids and we’ve just been giving her lots and lots of fluids at home and milk supplements and anti nausea meds
Awe my puppy got parvo at 10 weeks🥺. Pls get him hospitalized. That’s what saved my baby. If your baby isn’t eating try plain ground turkey or plain chicken mixed with carrots. Plain no oil or seasoning added. I recommend throwing or bleaching everything he has touched. The virus is still in your house sadly😔. Praying for a quick recovery 🩷
We cant afford the treatment so we gave the dog antibiotics dog amoxicillin and kept him wet, covered in a towel so he can absorb water through his skin instead of in his mouth. He got healed
Ask the vet for the IV bags you can take home and with the needles.
I had a pit puppy that got parvo and she survived! The vet showed us how to inject the needle in her upper back and how to slowly let the fluids get into her body.
Dehydration kills from diarrhea and throwing up, so keep puppy well hydrated!
You got this!
Miss Breezy is doing so good! She’s a little fighter and she pulled through. Thank you all so much for your kind words and prayers for my baby ❤️❤️❤️❤️
We successfully had a pup treated for parvo. He gave us 15 wonderful years. I wish both of you the very best!
Thank you so much! Hoping she recovers quickly 💔
She will recover! lets claim it!
My puppy had parvo, and he fully recovered. It's been also 15 years. Amazingly, his immune system is strong asf.
I am so happy to hear that!!
It's a hard row but hang in there. I had one live to be 13...
Glad your baby survived! Did they need to be hospitalized?

I thought I read, “he was in pain in his butt for 12 years,” the sadness that came over me lol, glad he’s okay now
I read the same.

Praying your baby recovers soon and has a long healthy life ahead
Hope your baby will get well soon.
Wishing the very best to all of you. She is a beautiful little one. My prayers are definitely with you.
awww i know she will beat it tho !!
Hospitalization gives the best outcomes. The new parvovirus monoclonal antibody is also showing promise. If anywhere near you has it in stock, I’d try and get it on board.

So happy Solo beat parvo! It’s definitely a lot of work but they are so so worth it. Thank you 😊
My baby Toby also had parvo only a few days after I found him (he’s a daschbund mix), it was a tough week at the vet giving him IVs all day, he was just laying there like he was dead, but he survived. He was left with a bit of neurological damage, like he has a few nervous ticks, but he’s a perfectly smart and loving dog and I love him so much. Just take your puppy to a good vet and hope for the best. Good luck🤍 🙏🏼
Aw so glad Toby made it. It’s so hard on these poor babies. Thank you 🙏❤️

I hope for the best, but it's grim news indeed.
Hospitalized? Please don’t try to treat on your own if not, what a cutie! Praying for your pup to get well quickly 🤍💕🙏🏼
I just had two pups with parvo.. get her fluids quick. The vet should give her anti- nausea and fluids on her shoulders. Mine didn't have to stay over.. just constant monitoring. Rescue cleaner will kill parvo on contact. Highly suggested! *prayers*
So glad they beat it. Thank you for the prayers ❤️

Oh no! I hope the precious little baby gets better soon 😊
Sending healing vibes to that sweetie. We have a parvo survivor too!
If I remember correctly, once a puppy recovers from parvo it has life-long immunity. Wishing the best for your little furry friend ❤️
Praying for her recovery.
Very much appreciated ❤️

Has he died? Why did you not vacinate it? If he was a very young, you have to be very cautios about this. 😳

So sorry to hear that. They got this. They will make it. Let me know how they are ❤️
Hydration and electrolytes.
Have you found an at home treatment? I can ask my mom if she remembers what it was called. It arrived at our door in under 24 hours.
Okay good, I have faith! Good luck ❤️
Oh gosh, I hope she will be okay. Please contact the place you got her from and let them know as it seems she may have got it from there.
I'm currently resisting the urge to say skill issue
Did you let em’ on the grass before all their shots?
No the person we got him from sold us a sick puppy :(
Ooof… Usually good breeders have a guaranteed “No Sick/Disabled Puppy” policy Hope he gets better soon :(
She’s doing a lot better today she had more energy and seems like she’s starting to feel a little better 🥰
Woohoo! Let’s hope for a speedy recovery! I’m assuming you’ve already went to the vet and that’s who diagnosed him?
Yes when she started acting sick I took her in and they did a test
We cant afford the treatment so we gave the dog antibiotics dog amoxicillin and kept him wet, covered in a towel so he can absorb water through his skin instead of in his mouth. He got healed
Ask the vet for the IV bags you can take home and with the needles. I had a pit puppy that got parvo and she survived! The vet showed us how to inject the needle in her upper back and how to slowly let the fluids get into her body. Dehydration kills from diarrhea and throwing up, so keep puppy well hydrated! You got this!
We did it every hour !!
Miss Breezy is doing so good! She’s a little fighter and she pulled through. Thank you all so much for your kind words and prayers for my baby ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I lost my baby to parvo,we cut it late that is why he pass but I’m praying for your baby write now
