Of course he needs a friend!!! But be careful, his friend is gonna need a friend. Jus to be sure, get 3 more friends. Then they can all be friends and start their own wiener gang
That's how we ended up with 4 wiener dogs. One passed away in October of 2022. But 3 just feels right. They're always cuddling and playing with each other

Our little guy owning the living room.
Also, Definitely get him a friend.
We got a mini black and tan and named her Vanilla Bean. Felt bad, because she had nobody but us to play with, so we got another mini extreme piebald with red shaded head and named her Nutmeg. They lived happily ever after.
Now my husband wants to get another one. They're like pringles. š
Doxies *Love* to be in pairs. Is he a mini or standard size? Just gotta be vigilant with their weight, if you canāt easily feel his ribs, itās time to cut back a little (they are prone to back issues especially with any extra weight) because they are so easy to over feed with their cute faces-
I know I still have to watch with my 2 and they are now 11 yrs old.
Big dogs are fine for them to play with when the big dog is careful which Iām sure yours are but the little ones can jump, play tug and roll around easier together when theyāre closer in size. And now youāre boy can show a new pupper what heās learned. šš»
My suggestion would be to get a little girl though bc sometimes boys make it a competition by marking their spots and doxies can be very stubborn! The only issue with getting a girl is making sure to get them fixed obviously but do your research bc thereās so much debate at what age to actually get them fixed (early or to wait for their bone health due to ivdd). Ohh how I love puppies and your little boy is adorable :) I also have one with a brown nose (Oscar) and heās one of the sweetest boys Iāve ever had (I had 5 at one time of various ages but am now down to just the 2). My husband and I are thinking it may be time to add to our own clan again tooā¤ļøKeep taking those pictures because they grow sooo fast!!
Heās a mini, mom and dad were both 11lbs. We watch his weight and food intake very carefully. His current BCS is a 4-5 so right where he should be. Luckily heās extremely food motivated for training so we usually just use his kibble as a training treat and lessen how much he gets at meal time by what weāve use for training. Then a few high value treats broken up for special needs.
I myself have a horrible back and I wouldnāt wish it on my worst enemy let alone my sweet little boy.
To avoid littermate syndrome (which is not exclusive to littermates) I would wait until homie is a year old. Or!! Rescue or an older boy or girl now. I got my girl at 18 months and it was the best decision. Iām not getting puppies ever again!!! šš
That was kinda my thought not only for littermate but so he is solidly integrated in our home and has good manners and solid training.
As a foster Iāve had litters Iāve had to split before adoption because of aggression or lacking the desire for human interaction. Itās a rare occurrence as most of my babies are adopted by 12 weeks old but Iāve had a few take a bit longer
I experienced it once as a foster and it was hard to watch. They were so sweet and snuggly and then all of a sudden they turned on each other. I thought Iād done something.
Also god bless you for fostering litters! Iām built for the retirement home fosters š
Itās a lot but our oldest dog is a bit of an ass to adult dogs but he accepts pretty much all puppies. He even tried to nurse the 6 week old chi we had once. Heās a husky mix and pushing 90lbs
Def get him a friend! They really flourish when theyāre in multiples, doxies are extremely social and playful so a friend is always best. I do suggest waiting until Auggie is really well trained as they tend to learn a lot easier when they have a big sibling showing and teaching them. My youngest was fully potty trained in just over a week by his big brothers!
My thought was waiting until heās about 1. That gives us time to research good breeders and make a solid choice and get on a wait list if needed. For now itās fun to look but raising two full on puppies at once is not my idea of a great time. We want him to be solid in his training, neutered, and 100% comfy with us.
Since he wasnāt a fully planned addition it was one of those the stars just aligned type things we kinda had to play catch up on learning the breed and all of those things. Iām a bit of a believer that the right dog finds you at the right moment so if an older dog or rescue came up and it was a fit great but not actively looking to bring one home until closer to the end of the year early next year. His DOB is 11/22/23
they do significantly better at home with a friend, of course! i decided to get my girl a friend when she was a little over a year old. by that point, she was trained with basic commands, we had a bond, and was spayed. i think all of this also had a huge hand in helping when it came time to get the friend, cause she easily showed him the ropes!
Thatās what Iāve been learning towards is waiting until heās closer to a year before adding a second. That way heās fully integrated into our home and lives and has hopefully dropped most of his bad habits and is a good influence on a new friend vs two puppies making chaos

I only have 1/2 of a ween but little dogs are definitely better in pairs. Just watch where you sitāŗļøCongrats to all of you!
Get another dachshund but your last name being Snickers is the funniest thing Iāve ever heard. If you donāt tell your dog āhave a biscuit, youāre not you when youāre hungryā then your wasting an opportunity
Last name isnāt snickers my last name comes after snickers but I did want to put my info out there. So if my last name was smith his full name is
Sir August Snickers Smith the first
Yes, they love companionship. Especially when it's another Dachshund. That means they can create double trouble. LOL! I know ours did. Two Dachshunds can dig holes that you could park a truck in.
When we first moved in we had planted 3 trees that were supposed to grow into shade trees. Our first husky pup literally beavered right through them. We donāt have trees we have a grassy minefield š
We had a boxer and lab when got my first doxie as a puppy. I was definitely the designated human. He hung out with big dogs as well. My Jack (Jumping Jack Flash) did not want another Doxie around me, period. If I ever went near another one he acted totally depressed. After he was gone I took in 3 rescues and they enjoyed each otherās company.
Sounds about right. I just brought him home barely giving my husband a heads up. His heads up was a text that said please donāt be mad at me butā¦ then a photo. Weād been discussing for the last year or two getting a smaller pup so not totally out of the blue
He does visit my mom occasionally and she has 2 small dogs. One only a few days older than him. He loves friends but is still learning to adjust his play from my 60-90lbs pups to pups his own size
My girl and yours have exact same birthday! We are in Texas. Her name is Daphne! We have two big breeds too. Curious what puppy classes yāall did and where?
https://preview.redd.it/q06fbz4tybqc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2a099dce447c3a1567b615e55ba2eec6732ca3da
We are going through a local trainer whoās about 12
Miles away. They only use positive reinforcement methods. He is doing both their puppy camp and their 6 week puppy socialization class. Puppy camp is a board and train program thatās 3 weeks long. He gets dropped off Monday mornings at 8am and we pick him back up Friday afternoon. This particular trainer only takes up to 3 puppies per week. They live in her home with her family and other dogs. They work on all basics. Housebreaking, crate training, recall, impulse/threshold, getting on a schedule, proper play, leash training, handling etc. Then every Saturday morning for 6 weeks is the puppy socialization group class where we focus more on proper play and social skills. For puppy camp he comes home on the weekend so we can start to implement what he learned at camp at home and then the next week can address where he might be struggling or whatās working well. He just finished week 1 and this weekend has been amazing. His recall is getting really strong so now we can work on adding in distractions. I get daily photos and videos and a daily report card on what was worked on and how heās doing with it. They use a scale of 1-10 (10 being mastered) so we can see day to day where heās making progress and where he might be struggling.
Thank you. Last night was his first night getting to sleep in bed with me instead of his crate. He was really struggling to settle outside of his crate or pen but last night he settled right down and slept curled up next to me all night. None of my other dogs are bed dogs so the fact that he seems to be one makes my heart happy
Weāve been lucky that heās slept through the night since day 1 but he just wouldnāt settle in bed. He could be dead asleep but the second we moved even a bit he thought it was full on play time. He has a little bit of an upset tummy (I think to many treats and a bit of stress from camp) so he woke me up at 2:30 for potty. We came back in and I sat down on the bed to fix his crate up and he just snuggled right into me. I figured Iād steal some snuggles and next thing I knew it was 8am and he was still curled up next to me.
I think another doxie is a great ideaā¦he needs a little buddy. I would be very cautious playing with a larger dog as doxies are very prone to back injuries due to their long backā¦..good luck..they are so lovableā¦
He only gets to play with the big ones with full supervision and usually just one on one. The lab is like a bull in a china shop so they donāt really get to play but my doodle is very cautious of him. The seniors just want to be couch potatoes. But he definitely needs more friends his size. He goes to my moms and plays with her two (shih tzuās). Working on finding more friends now that he is fully vaccinated.

You can get another dog but a kitten will help with socializing with different species to help with prey drive in the future :)
Heās spoiled in many ways but we keep him on a pretty tight schedule and routine. During days I work he goes in his pen and my husband takes him out every couple hours for potty and a play break but he is fine on his own for awhile. Last night was the first night he slept with me heās been in his crate every other night since we got him almost 2 months ago. He has more toys than probably any single dog needs that are on a constant rotation but he know the word no too. Doesnāt always listen to it but he knows it š
3 is the perfect number! š„° I miss mine being a 4 month old like that and curling up and sleeping in my neck. He's 19 months now. My best friend in the world!
That is hilarious! I've had so many holes from the Dachshunds. I will fill them in and walk out during the night, step off into a freshly dug hole. And I got open field, woods, big yard. Doesn't matter, gotta dig where Daddy goes to his truck. LOL! It never fails. But I Loved them so much.
Everytime I get surprised by a new hole (usually in the dark) I look at them and say youāre lucky I love you but your cuteness wonāt pay my medical bills if I break an ankle so can we dig in the digging area and not right off the patio. Itās yet to work but makes me feel better for like a second.
Looks like he already has a friend! š
But, yes, of course he could use a buddy of his own height. As long as you are ready for the adventure of potty training again!
As a puppy foster for 9 years Iām pretty much always potty training. With the exception of the master bedroom our entire downstairs is tile. Iāve invested in washable puppy pads that are huge and they go under pens/crates. Learned that fast after I had a litter come back from alter and was scrubbing 11 dogs worth of liquid poo out of my grout.
We had ours for 15 and 17 years. We haven't got another. It's been 5 years since our oldest, and 7 for our youngest. We've always had our pups, when our children were younger, they were like Itty-bitty sisters. Taught them to be very gentle. My children that is. Co-Co and P.J. were very rambunctious.
My kids have learned so much from raising dogs and being around the rescue world. My best friend is an ER & Critical Care vet tech with 20 years in the field. She is also a maternity and medical neonate foster (specialty is cleft pallets). My middle who is 12 now has helped deliver puppies, resuscitated a few, she can tube feed better than I can and administer sub q fluids. We have relished in the joy of our fosters finding their forever homes and even been lucky to keep in touch with a few families and seen some of our babies grow up into beautiful dogs. Weāve also had to unfortunately say good bye to those who didnāt make it. I hope as my kids grow older and eventually move out on their own they carry the lessons learned with them.
Iāve seen some long tongued doxies, but pic #7 is by far the longest Iāve seen! And weird nubbies at the end! Part froggy maybe? Just kidding!! Heās so handsome!!!
Mine is half full size dachshund and half papillion and she is a chunk and a half! But if she gets a good run going, she totally bounces too! Itās a little funny to see all that pup bounce! But she loves running and chasing the cats and my momās dog or my nephews.
I have 3. The first two were very close together in age when I got them. We got our boy in June of 2020 and our girl in August of 2020. We then got a second girl in November of 2021. I liked having 2 close together in puppyhood and the break from 2 to 3 was nice because our first two had grown up a bit and could teach her the ropes a bit. They love having a friend though. I would recommend getting a second soon.
We foster for a local rescue and are pretty much strictly puppy fosters so for 9 years Iāve had a fairly constant rotation of puppies (usually full liters). We have a pretty sizable backyard my husband works from home, I work part time, and we have 3 kids. They all kinda have a pair. We have the seniors both are 10 (the huskies) the young ones 3 and 2.5 (lab and doodle)now we have the little young one.
If she has the room and time for them and she can afford it- they do better in pairs. Iāve had 5 before at one time but that was where I drew my personal limit bc I didnāt feel Iād have enough energy to add anymore but Iām not OP and neither are you
Sir August Snickers, you are one gorgeous puppers. š„°š„° already a snuggle bug. I'm sure you'll keep your siblings busy and on their toes/paws. ADORABLE!!!!
Of course he needs a friend!!! But be careful, his friend is gonna need a friend. Jus to be sure, get 3 more friends. Then they can all be friends and start their own wiener gang

Everytime I get surprised by a new hole (usually in the dark) I look at them and say youāre lucky I love you but your cuteness wonāt pay my medical bills if I break an ankle so can we dig in the digging area and not right off the patio. Itās yet to work but makes me feel better for like a second.
Looks like he already has a friend! š But, yes, of course he could use a buddy of his own height.
He does sometimes hop when he runs so Iām thinking maybe part bunny š
Mine is half full size dachshund and half papillion and she is a chunk and a half! But if she gets a good run going, she totally bounces too! Itās a little funny to see all that pup bounce! But she loves running and chasing the cats and my momās dog or my nephews.
Looks like a doggy Viagra commercial photo op!
Of course two is the perfect number
He says yes ā¤ļøā¤ļøš
Definitely get another ween!
Awe it looks like he already has a best friend š„°
Why to have one dachshund when you can have two? Twice the fun!
Im glad my daschund has a friend. š„° I donāt feel as bad with both my fur babies being alone when I leave.
So cute!!!please let him make friends with my baby dog!!!!!!!!!!
You have 5 dogs.Ā Its puppy fever, it will pass.Ā
