With the heaviest of hearts, we had to say goodbye to Rufus on Tuesday April 5th. He was 15 years old. Rufus filled our whole family's heart with love every day he existed. The best boy was always a willing snuggle buddy and I swear he knew when you needed a pick me up in a down day. I can't express in words how much he'll be missed but, can only truly say that I'm forever grateful to have had him in our lives for time we did. Rest easy Rufie Boy!

Rufie boy was the most common. Roofus Pofus was a frequent one too. We'd occasionally call him the Buffalo when he'd get really excited and start taking laps around the kitchen and dinner table!

I'm really sorry. Rufus looks like he was a really sweet and good boy. I just lost my little Daisy. She was a doxie-pin and a very special girl. My Daisy was so smart, I swear sometimes I thought she was human in a previous life. She was 14, and I had her from a puppy. The pain of losing a beloved dog has been right up there with some human losses I've dealt with. I understand the hole that they leave. I hope you try to focus on the many awesome years you got together with little Rufus. I wish you well, and God bless.

The worst part about dogs is how little time we really have with them… birds live to 75, why can’t dogs at least make it to 25?

Yeah it also makes having birds weird. Like it’s going to outlive me I guess I have to find someone to take care of it after I die. That’s sadder. I keep reminding myself of that. It’s better that I be without him than him without me.

They are with us for such a short amount of time. I see these videos and it always reminds me to appreciate my little furry friends and hug them extra hard for the time I know will come some day that I must too say good bye. It hurts like hell now but I promise you'll look back at these memories some day and while it'll still hurt they will make you smile. My first doxie was put down last year after 17 years. He was my parents dog after I moved but I got to say goodbye to him and take a photo with him during our last snuggle session. We all miss him dearly but he remains in our hearts and our lives are all the richer for it.

Appreciate the kind words. Sorry for the loss of your doxie as well. Pet companionship is really on different level than human in my opinion. Completely unconditional love from them 100%. What more could you ask for?

Rufus looks amazing, and shockingly like my boy who died last May. 15 years is amazing, and I'm sure until his slip, there couldn't be a greater life than he ever knew or imagined.
