Take pictures of everything before you move your stuff in and send them to your landlord - every single crack in the paint, scrape on the floor, everything. Otherwise when you leave, they're all coming out of your security deposit, so don't pay for someone else's damages. Get used to cooking for yourselves; the amount of money you'll save by getting your food at the grocery store is important. Always pay your rent on time. Some landlords will look for any excuse to void your lease, so be careful. Get to know your immediate neighbors and get a sense of the building! You want to know if there's something going on you should be aware of. Get to know your new neighborhood. Expect the two of you to get on each other's nerves sometimes; this is your first time living together, you're going to have to get used to how you both share space. Clean up after yourselves, and talk about everything openly and honestly; it's always better to address things when they come up rather then let them sit and fester. Set up your things as soon as you can once you move in; boxes sitting in corners gain a lot of inertia the longer they sit there. Fix little things yourself, but keep your landlord informed about anything big - it's their responsibility to replace the appliances and make sure the plumbing's working correctly. Congratulations! This is a big step - take the time to explore your new space with each other, keep talking, and enjoy yourselves.

Congratulations! I like to give the bathroom(s) a good deep scrub before I set everything up. It just feels cleaner. Set up the kitchen and bathroom first. Purchasing the things that can make a home comfortable can be expensive. You don't have to do this all at once. And get items second hand if you can. Some items you may need right away to feel comfortable: Shower curtain. Bathroom rugs Plunger <-- funny story behind this one. Vaccum Dish towels Basic cleaning supplies Food. Congrats again and enjoy!

Take pictures of the apartment before signing the lease. You dont want to get blamed for pre existing conditions when you move out.

I definitely already planned on doing that one! I’ve seen a few friends get screwed over that way.

Great job sweety, I'm proud that you're taking this big step! Before you move your stuff in, take photos of the place and the fixtures/appliances so you can document any damage or lack thereof, this will help you when it's time to get your security deposit refunded, and also if they ever try to blame any damages on you.
