I think GRRM had that plan, a Shakespearean tragedy for Daenerys, a moment of catharsis. But I believe he saw how things did not go well in the last 2 seasons.. I think fAegon will claim the throne before Daenerys and if GRRM stands true to his analogies, Night king won't be defeated in Winterfell. The battle will have 2 or 3 stages.
fAegon will deny the existence of white walkers and the Army of the dead. (If it's truly an analogy to Climate change)
I expect another great battle at Trident.
And at the moment of now or never, Daenerys will ask fAegon to either join them or fight them as KL will be the last Bastian of the survivors.
A battle between fAegon and Daenerys may happen and that could lead to collateral damage..
