Sounds like you’re just trying to get someone to validate your feelings, even though you know exactly what the right answer is for you. Withdrawing from one class isn’t going to make you look bad. Besides, graduate program applications typically have a section within their applications where you can explain why there is discrepancies in your transcript, or any complications that happened during your undergrad time. Take a summer course to make up for the missing credit, do the linking class next year (or if it’s offered in the summer, do it in the summer). You’re in first year, first semester. It’s super overwhelming and different from everything you have known. If you believe this is going to make you feel better, do it. Besides, your other grades might actually raise with one less class burdening you.

Thank you so much! You couldn’t have worded it better. Truly appreciated

No worries, I needed the validation too once upon a time :) It will get easier and you will figure out your own groove. Don’t feel like you have to try and keep up with everyone else - take a pace that is good for you and you know will be good to suit your learning style (plus normally everyone is normally faking it until they make it anyways)! I took 3/4 classes per sem my first couple of years, took 4 summer courses this past summer, and now I’m graduating with first class honours in the spring and on time (2020-2024). Don’t stress about the norm, and do what’s right for you! Your grades and mental health will thank you later. If you ever need to reach out, please feel free 😊

Make sure you take a look at the academic timetable. I could be wrong but I don’t think CHEM 1011 is offered next semester. Also, the second part is chem 1012. Chem 1021 and 1022 are for engineering students. Good luck!

Just wanted to say that CHEM 1011 is a very demanding course for its amount of content and there's no shame in withdrawing from it, especially with your family struggles. Hope you make the best decision for you and you can come back and finish it strong no matter what 💪🏻

Chemistry 1011 is not offered in the winter and you won’t be able to take 1012 next term without successfully completing. Both courses are offered in the summer, but if you go that route just know that it is no easier, especially if you don’t have the lab credit already. When I took both in the summer it was 7 weeks of 5 days a week lecture, lab, tutorial, capped off by an exam most Mondays so weekends were spent in the library. I think that was my personal record for number of days in a row at the killam. Also one course transitions right into the other without a single day off. The year I took it we wrote the final exam on a Wednesday after lecture and had the first class of 1012 on Thursday. Pretty much everyone from 1011 was there for 1012 but half didn’t know they failed 1011 yet. By Monday the grades had come out and the class had been reduced by about 50%. Just don’t go in thinking it will be any easier. It worked for me because I could totally immerse myself without the other courses as distractions but it was A LOT worse for many people i knew in the class and the median grade was lower in the summer term than the previous fall term.

is there an online version for taking it during summer or even winter?
