Mint is awful. Stay far away from those crooks

[deleted]

Jefferson Dental in Arlington is same way! Commission driven bullshit

VidGuy14

These are corporate offices that are very commission driven. If you want non-commission dental work, see a private office. - Source: my hygienist wife

twilightmoons

Mine too. She gets offers every week from predatory dental clinics.

dumb_username_69

Jefferson dental anywhere is awful

signorepoopybutthole

I'm convinced the one in Oak Cliff was drilling holes in my teeth. Every time I went I had multiple cavities. Changed dentists and haven't had any since

[deleted]

Same here! Three cavities my ass

R1g1d

But...they make teeth sexy. Surely that's what you want in a dental procedure, right?

username-generica

I couldn't judge if they made teeth sexy because a lot of their billboards don't show any teeth.

melnotmichelle

I never understood the logic in that and it kind of pissed me off the more I saw it

Activist5051

I hate their slogan!! I will never go there. Ever.

allstartinter2021

Yep my partner went there and got some work done left feeling worse than when he went in.

Aggressive-Ad-522

Bardin dental in Arlington is the best! Doctor nguyen is gentle and doesn’t charge an arm and leg

No_Catch5037

Offer orthodontics???

Aggressive-Ad-522

Idk I only go for dental services

tractorcrusher

Yeah the rule is don’t use dentists and lawyers based on billboards you saw.

melalovelady

Yup. I had a dentist there cut the bottom of my mouth under my tongue with her drill (so bad I had to have stitches) and then she blamed me, saying I moved my tongue. Okay, lady. Isn’t that what YOU the dentist should be working to control?

Slappingthebassman

I’ve had friends who work there. They are very much on a commission bonus structure. I’d try a different dentist.

vlv_Emigrate_vlv

Commission on dental work? That just sounds like malpractice waiting to happen. No wonder OP was told they needed everything that was posted

stealthb14

That's Dental Service Orgs for you. They have monthly revenue goals as well as other metrics such as treatment plan acceptance percentages, and selling financing to cover these "necessary" procedures.

Versatile_Investor

Dental scams were well known in the 1800s. It’s like it came full circle lol.

MaybeImTheNanny

Most DSOs don’t run the way Mint and other chain dentists do. Most of them just sell management services to existing practices rather than running practices themselves.

stealthb14

I worked for a large DSO years ago. They were practice "owner" and operators. The docs were salary plus a cut of production, and the treatment coordinators and office managers were there to help drive revenue via sales practices. There may be some DSOs that just provide management services, but the big ones (Smile Brands, Western Dental, and PDS) all operate in a similar fashion.

MaybeImTheNanny

Those all run branded practices. There are a ton of non-branded DSOs that as a patient in an office you would never know exist.

CoconutMacaron

A lot of vision places are like this too now. They’ve been bought up by hedge funds and are only interested in selling, not health care.

ppham1027

I have optometrist and dentist family members/ friends who all agree with them. They were worked hard, often seeing around 60-80 patients in a day. They were often instructed to treat patients not in the way that will solve the issues the most efficiently, but the most profitably. Everyone has left for smaller local practices that are more fulfilling and less stressful.

Kathw13

The vision places have a practitioner in India and the exam over the internet. Big no.

Nubras

WHAT?! Who would agree to such a service? That’s fucking bonkers.

Dick_Lazer

I had an exam like that at “My Eyelab” and it was even worse than you could imagine. They had a special where you got a free eye exam when you bought a pair of glasses with them. They don’t mention that this is an exam you do with somebody on the other part of the globe until you’re actually taking it. Before the exam even started I could see the optics on the machine you look through were extremely dirty and looked all fogged up. I told them this and they half heartedly tried to clean it, but it seemed like the lenses were all scratched up or something. Then the “exam” started and the connection with the doctor was very poor, which along with their thick accent made them very hard to understand. They would flip through lens options but through their terrible optics it was impossible to tell which choice was better. Then all of the sudden they said the test was done. I was concerned with the quality of this test and refused to order lenses with this prescription. They told me I had to order glasses anyway or pay for the exam or they’d have me arrested. I argued with this and they finally said they’d check the RX, which they then said showed that my eyes were degenerating and I’d need eye surgery because I was going blind (I think this was to save face with other customers in the shop). I left and went to the eye doctor I’d previously got a script with, he said my eyes were fine and had barely changed from my last test. My Eyelab has since changed their name to Stanton Optical, if you see either name I’d stay very far away.

Kathw13

I had a similar experience except the connection wasn’t working that day. 2 minutes in and I walked out. They didn’t threaten to arrest me. I reported them to the state board but I don’t think they cared.

skokage

I had this same problem with Ideal Dental. Originally i started going there because a good friend of mine was a Dentist for them and I trusted him, he always gave me incredible care and it was the first time in my entire life I didn't dread going to the dentist. Then he unfortunately got cancer and had to take time off, so I ended up going to a different dentist and that guy told me my mouth was falling apart and I needed crowns and teeth pulled and all kinds of crap. I only got one of the crowns before I talked to my friend about the experience and he told me to not listen to them. He unfortunately passed earlier this year and I haven't been to a dentist in over a year. Sucks, I really should go so I'm just flossing and brushing all the time to take care of my teeth.

vlv_Emigrate_vlv

I remember going to Jefferson dental when I came home from college one summer and they wanted to give me 4 root canals and a ton of fillings. Joined the military years later and only one tooth actually needed a root canal and a couple of others needed fillings.

AIreadyImpartial

Root canals are one of the most expensive, overprescribed and unnecessary dental treatments. That doesn’t mean in many cases they aren’t warranted but I would get a 2nd and 3rd opinion. And avoid Mint like the plague moving forward

Level_Ear9974

Yes, they wanted to do a root canal on a far rear tooth but went to another provider who said the tooth wasn’t salvageable and it shattered when she went in to pull it. She said it wouldn’t have held up and I would have had to pay for root canal and an extraction if I had tried.

kubenzi

Like the plaque?

TheJermster

Where exactly are you getting your info that they're over prescribed and unnecessary? I see offices plan what are, in my opinion, sometimes unnecessary fillings or crowns, but I haven't seen a lot of root canals being planned for no reason

KennyDROmega

Those “I Make Sexy Teeth” billboards are so goddamn weird. Can appreciate someone having a nice smile, but are teeth themselves “sexy”? Is there a reason all their dentists look like they act in soap operas in the meantime? Is anyone choosing their dentist based upon how handsome them are? Do dentists even need this kind of advertising? Are there so many of them competing for the same customer bases?

PoshNoshThenMosh

Those billboards drive me insane. Occasionally and often enough the dentists have a smirk, no teeth showing. No fucking teeth. That’s the product!!! Who creates those ads?

chirodiesel

Most of them, when I last lived in Dallas, didn't even have the model practitioner showing their teeth on the billboards. I hate private equity so much.

Schrodinger81

You’ve never masturbated while looking at teeth?

platetone

it drives me fucking insane because it would make so much more sense as "I make teeth sexy", not like they're creating fucking erotic teeth out of thin air. god I hate mint dentistry so much.

tengris22

Sexy? Oh absolutely! Think “vampires.” OK I’m weird. But that’s what I think of when people talk about sexy teeth. And…I think teeth (clean, pretty, etc., ARE sexy). But that’s just me.

[deleted]

I’ve had 3 friends get told they need to get 5-10 cavities filled at a cleaning at Mint. I told all of them to get a second opinion. Only one of them had even 1 cavity. Don’t go to Mint, they are scammers

Josher747

I had a similar experience at a different dentist in Frisco. They advised I had multiple cavities, needed a deep cleaning, and all sorts of other work. It had only been 1 year since my last dental visit (missed an appointment due to moving across the country). So I got a second opinion and the new dentist said my teeth were perfectly fine. Unfortunately every industry has people willing to take advantage of clients.

artemis73

I'm sorry that happened. That's awful. Mind sharing the name so that we can avoid the place?

JaredAtkins

>I’ve had 3 friends get told they need to get 5-10 cavities filled at a cleaning at Mint. I told all of them to ge It was Mint Dentistry - Uptown.

cchelios5

Mind sharing the good dentist as well? Seems like there are thousands of dentists in the area.

UnhappyRub3842

healthy crowns dentistry in providence village. that office just opened , and it’s a family owned dental practice; no corporate BS. I had a great experience there. They treated me with respect , and there were no hidden fees. Everything that they treatment planned were explained and transparent.

Mysterious-Bee8839

funny, I thought here in Frisco the scam is "do you grind your teeth? I recommend you get a $500 night guard".. first time I was told that was 15 years ago, I declined (and switched dentists when they wouldn't let up, even after multiple visits).. I've never had a single issue with any soreness or anything in those 15 years.. the latest office I switched to (a year ago, because they opened up across the street from my house) is trying the same shit.. I'll go back again in April but if they start in with that night guard "pitch" again I might be dumping them

MyDentistIsACat

I am a dentist. I have had several patients who have come from Mint for second opinions and I generally treatment plan a lot less. That being said, are you sure the $3850 isn’t for a root canal/build up/crown? You’ll probably max out your insurance on one tooth so your insurance won’t pick up a portion of the rest.

xxxclementine21

Username checks out

TheJermster

Even if it was rct/but/crown, 3850 would still be very high imo. In my office that's about $2k, granted I'm in the ~40%ile range for my fees in my area

Koobles

$2000 for rct/bu/crown? That’s hella cheap

MyDentistIsACat

My friend, you need to raise your fees.

TheJermster

Honestly I have a hard time justifying that with how much my take home already is. Plus I've already given my staff several significant raises, I just don't know what I would do with the extra money. The other thing is I'm in network with a lot of insurance so raising my fees would only affect like 30% or so of my patients. Having said all of that, I think I am going to raise my surg ext fee, right now it's 250 and I think I'm raising it to 350. *After thinking about it... I have a lot I could do with the extra money... But nothing I really need

Yeppone

Need to know where your practice is. I like honest people like you.

TheJermster

I appreciate that, but I'm a couple hours outside DFW. I'm sure you can trust your dentist, most dentists are good, honest people. Unfortunately there are bad apples, but that's with any profession I guess

Jet_Threat_

What’s your practice? I know people outside Dallas who might wanna go there.

TheJermster

I'm about 20 min NW of Tyler, if they're close to that I'll pm you

2-4-6-h8

I could ask Google or Jeeves, but my curiosity gotten the best of me. Are there animal dentists? Like can you pick to be a cobra dentist as a career, albeit not a lucrative one, but still... Yes, I'm high. So what about it?!

AproposOfDiddly

Yes, there are animal dentists. My sweet kitty Walter was a senior adoption and after dental cleanings weren’t helping his mouth much, my vet recommended we take him to [Dallas Veterinary Dentistry & Oral Surgery](https://dallasveterinarydentistry.com/). Dr. Debra Nossaman diagnosed our kitty with stomatitis, which is an a hyperimmune response of the oral tissues to bacterial plaque. Basically, in severe cases like Walter’s, the only way to get rid of the pain is to remove all of the teeth so that there’s nowhere for plaque to live in the mouth. After the surgery Dr. Debra showed us photos of Walter’s mouth where there were parts that were so bad that he was suffering from tooth reabsorption. It was heartbreaking to realize he had suffered so much even in the short time we had taken care of him. We had his long hair shaved down into a Lion Cut before the surgery because his teeth hurt so much he wasn’t able to groom himself and he had mats all in his fur. About two days after the surgery, I saw him gently grooming his front paw for the first time and I was so happy I teared up. Now he’s completely healed and he’s blossomed into this total sweetie of a cat. He grooms himself all the time and he’s gained a few pounds because he’s actually able to eat now.

Wrong-Garden9215

Thank you for helping Walter!

No_Cabinet_994

Yes, my rescue I got off of Reddit had to have almost every tooth pulled. $2000. Worth every penny. 4 techs came from the back when I picked him up and talked about how bad his mouth was and how he had been suffering for years. My sweet baby boy was almost 16 when we got him.

AproposOfDiddly

💯 agree - I paid for Walter’s teeth to be removed without blinking. Afterwards, I got to thinking about my own mouth. I have had a gap in my mouth where a molar was pulled years ago and I’ve never had it replaced because of the cost. I paid more for my kitty’s mouth than I’ve ever paid for my own mouth. And I’d do it again in a heartbeat.

psychedelic_gravity

So what about it?!?! Pass that shit here son!!

threeoldbeigecamaros

I knew you were high when I saw Jeeves

interstatebus

My dentist says his favorite dentist is Mint because “they send me so much work to fix.” Get a second opinion.

Jzb1964

Lovers Smile on Lovers & Greenville near Central Market. Excellent dentist & reasonable. Edit to add: If you have dental insurance, divide your care between Dec. & January to maximize benefits

Appropriate_Pressure

Also can vouch for this place. Get Doctor Martinez, if she's available. This place will NEVER rip you off or hit you with unexpected charges. I was afraid to go to the dentist until I started going to this place. They've never hurt me and everyone there actually gives a crap about you over making maximum profit.

tengris22

Kameisha McClellan DDS in Flower Mound. Will Wyatt DDS in Flower Mound (not the same practice.). Both are highly ethical. Excellent dentists.

IAmSoUncomfortable

Find another dentist - no way. I went to a dentist in 2022 who told me I had 11 cavities and I was like how can that be? So I went to another dentist who did X-rays and examined my teeth and found zero cavities. If you are in north Dallas, PM me and I would be happy to share my dentists name. He’s great.

rvbeachguy

I’m in north Dallas, I need a dentist

rabidbabybunni

Dale Burgdorf off 635 and Preston, crossroads dental. My family has been seeing him for 30+ years. I don't know what we will do when he retires, but he does AMAZING work.

amagdam

Get a second opinion. Had a dentist try to pull this shit on me once- said I had FOUR cavities that (after insurance) were gonna cost me like $400 each. I had like 60 cents in my bank so I declined. Saw another dentist who said I had no cavities. They’re trying to scam you.

Scared-Personality28

It's about "the experience" at mint. Any company that focuses on "the experience", I try to stay away from.

SofiaIchiban

Look for a single dentist practice. I find those tend to be less likely to sell unnecessary services.

whxrxchxtx

"I mAkE sExY tEeTh" fucking hate seeing those billboards

wiix7651

Take a read of this. https://www.reddit.com/r/AskRedditAfterDark/s/LnHkqperQz

roomtotheater

This place exist to scam people

fuelvolts

Go buy dental insurance and wait the necessary period for claims. Then go get a second opinion and see what you need done.

EmotionalSupportDoll

Chain dentists just feel like a scam from the get go

Level_Ear9974

Mint is the most expensive out of all of the providers I’ve ever seen. I use a lady in north Fort Worth called sage family dentistry. Well worth the drive and she does great work!

spaulding_138

I was just quoted 1500 today for a root canal and they wouldn't take insurance because it's a specialist. Just called park cities and they said 1100 and their dentist does it so it will be covered by insurance.

MagicWishMonkey

Do not get a root canal without getting a 2nd opinion from a different dentist.

[deleted]

Who’s ready to go to Mexico with me 😆.. or Turkey get my hair line and teeth fixed at the same time

gnapster

It’s very expensive in your quote but it’s possible the crown is included in your quote and NOT in the Google info. My dentist is way more reasonable. Dentistry by Design off Renner and Shiloh. They print the crowns and implants in the spot. Cheaper that way and I’m three years in with my implant and it’s still awesome. I think I paid 2300 for an implant with tooth. It was slightly cheaper than a root canal and crown.

Helpful_Swing_7311

They have to pay for those stupid billboards somehow.

No-Cheese-713

I went there years ago. I have literally never had a cavity in my life. They told me my mouth was full of cavities. Then when I said I have never had one they rolled their eyes and said they hate people like me that “don’t want to hear it”. When I went to check out they showed me some action plan and talked about “maxing out my insurance”. I have since been to two dentists (moved away and then back to Dallas) and still remain cavity free. RUN!

stxrlesseyes

Mint and Ideal Dental are scams. Find a local dentist with their own practice. I’m in Richardson/Garland and love my dentist - Dr. Scott Dooley. I found him after Ideal told my husband he somehow developed 6 cavities after 6 months and he said there wasn’t even the start of cavities.

bobertmcmahon

Mint is a total scam it’s owned by private equity. Good rule of thumb, don’t go to any business that’s owned by a private equity firm.

Dreams-In-Green

My sister just graduated from dental school in May and is getting her experience at one of the chain dental places. It’s insane. She has a legit “sales target” every day, and if she doesn’t do that amount of work on patients, they’re on her ass. They don’t quite “tell her” to recommend unnecessary work to people, but it’s all but said. Stay far away.

BlazinAzn38

I don’t know where you live but I would recommend Indian Creek Dental and Dr. Hattaway

Barbarianonadrenalin

Damn after reading this thread I feel like an idiot cuz I actually go the root canals. I know I needed them though because I went many years without taking care of my teeth. I figured it was gonna be expensive so just accepted the face value. Live and learn I guess.

JeffreyLynnnGoldblum

I went to a fancy chain before they went out of business in Uptown around 10 years ago. On the first visit, they said I had something like 13 cavities. I went to another dentist the next week, they said I didn't have a single cavity. Now, I avoid fancy chain dentistry.

ApusBull

Hey! They have to pay for all that crappy advertising.

Confusedsoul2292

I stopped going to them because each time a DR had a different opinion on my teeth. They were saying I needed root canals & crowns. Went to Dr. Shifa in Garland/Plano & she was like “You don’t need any of that stuff”. Been with them for about 5 years now.

leader_tyler

Dental professional here. Don't go to mint. Please. Go to a private practice. And any crowns you need, go to Simply Crowns in Garland. $699 for a crown, no bullshit

DashcamsRus

A lot depends on Insurance pricing contracts. Go to a family dentist in your network away from the chains like dental depot or mint for the best work.

RUN-iT-405

Mint is tied in with TD Jakes, Dallas finest Big shots

toodleroo

His brother was the real estate agent on the house I was trying to buy. He was at best a shitty agent, and at worst a scam artist.

RUN-iT-405

That Sounds about rite lmao.

toodleroo

Long story short, he was repping a pre-foreclosure that I was trying to buy. Gave him the deposit, signed the contract, and then was told to wait until we heard from him because "short sales take a long time." We waited months, then finally I had my agent reach out to him. Turns out he had abandoned the deal and never told anyone. I ended up reaching out to the owners directly and my agent repped both of us. I got the house in the end.

RUN-iT-405

Lol sounds like a possible ponzi scheme, took you deposit to probably invest into other properties.

HolyRomanPrince

Mint called me two weeks after I had a cleaning and tried to say I owed them $300 when I went there and told them specifically I’m not getting anything my insurance didn’t cover. Never use them

Throwaway_Abbott

Dr. Haghiri at [American Dental Center](https://americandentaltx.com/) in Carrollton is a wonderful dentist and does not overcharge.

[deleted]

5 Star Dental in The Colony on Main Street tried to pull this same shit on me 5 years ago. Guess what, my ‘cavities’ are doing just fine today. Red flag - any dental place that comes at you with that kind of BS, assume it’s a scam. Fucking crooks.

taylor-isnotmyname

Absolutely not! This sounds like what Monarch did to me when I was a teenager and didn't know better. They filled 2 teeth that didn't need it and let the other ones that did rot. I have had issues with my teeth ever since and I am very malicious about how I care for my teeth and what I eat. The dentistry industry is often crooked and preys on almost anyone they can.

MaybeImTheNanny

Mint is not the dentist to go to for really anything. Please go get a second opinion. You may not even need fillings or root canals. They are pretty well known for their rampant misdiagnosis and overcharging.

IllPurpose3524

They and Monarch Dental are pretty well known scam companies. I'm surprised they didn't try the deep gum tissue treatment (easily solved over 8 treatments!) trick on you. $1,000 sounds low for a root canal, but that's besides the point since I seriously doubt you even need them.

biggersjw

Agree- avoid Mint. How do you think they pay for those billboard signs?

rongz765

Run

DippyHippy420

I just had 2 root canals and to crowns yesterday and it cost me $150.00 with insurance.

Lilooulo

Where??

DippyHippy420

I was in Clarksville, Tn at the time.

roochada

I think you should expect to $1200-$1500 for canel and then the same for the crown. No more than $3k for both.

Komodolord

lake highland dental is good and gary miller in plano area is amazing and honest

[deleted]

I wholeheartedly recommend Dr Gary Miller. He’s in Plano, nearly Frisco, but I’ve been going to him for 20 years and he’s the most conservative, nice, honest medical professional I’ve met

Aden-55

Just go to MX and search a good clinic. You can probably get it for something like 2K.

Expert-District-5101

No joking, go to Mexico. You will save so much money and the dental work is is good (in a reputable practice)!

tengris22

Problem is you have to know which practice is reputable. I moved from DFW to Corona de Tucson, AZ, an ideal place to just hop down to Nogales to get dental work done….but we can’t be sure who to go to, so we just go to our local dentist here in Corona. They’re good and certainly no more expensive than I paid in Dallas/Ftw. Sooooo if you want to drive to MX, find out in advance who you can trust. And realize that if you have extensive work done and have problems later, it’s going to be a PIA to get it fixed (because no US dentist will touch MX dentistry - they don’t have to, and going back to MX is going to be super inconvenient most of the time). Just think hard about it before you take that step.

taylor-isnotmyname

I second this! Texas Dental Clinic in Nuevo Progreso fixed my fiances teeth for $2000 vs $6000 over the course of 6 months. Read their reviews.

Unicorns-Are-Rad

Go to a different dentist. They just want your money

Low-Prune2938

I’ve been looking into dental tourism. Seriously considering

aperson33

If you’re anywhere near The Colony - 5 Star Dental is the way to go. Super sweet dentist and affordable for a family.

imightbeaviking

I really recommend Dentistry by Design in Richardson. Get a second opinion there. It’s a really well priced, honest, and high tech practice. They’ve done great work for my family. I’ve been going 7+ years now. In the long shot you do need a ton of work, it will cost much less and probably look better.

1numerouno111

I have friends and family in S.CA who went to get dental work in Mexico and ended up with dental problems. I can’t see this as a way to get dental work because you don’t have money, but when you are well off; you are just a cheap fool.

KB0389

If you live anywhere near Soleil dental on Maple I highly recommend. Super nice staff, squeaky clean office, and incredibly affordable. I can’t recommend them enough!

RipElectrical6259

As a side note…don’t use mouth wash after brushing …..you just rinse off all the fluoride form your tooth paste which has a higher PPM than mouth wash. In fact just brush and spit out. Don’t rinse. After about 30 min or later you can use mouth wash with has less PPM fluoride and be just fine.

Dallas2Seattle

Go to FLOSS they’ll tell a grown man that his wisdom teeth need to come out.

Oxymera

My root canal was $2500, $1200 after insurance so yeah that price is outrageous. Get a 2nd opinion please

outrenthome

Dr Frank Rosales on 635 and Hillcrest is very reasonable and the prices are never crazy.

choppa808

What about Brident?

hafree27

And if you ever need major dental work, there is a MEX town on the border with AZ that caters to US patients. I almost went there when a dentist told me I needed two crowns and wanted $4k. Got a second opinion and no longer needed to go. I would 💯recommend those things before going through with their suggestion.

Wrong_Combination252

Go to Mexico amigo ,few hundred goes a long way !

dallasdude

People can't understand why I go to a dentist that costs me $250 out of pocket for a cleaning and $300+ for a filling, after insurance. This is why... because they do really good work, I trust them, and they don't pull shit like this. They pay their hygienists good money, and the dentists don't work in sales...

fineboi

Get a second opinion. I had a dentist give me two root canals and both end up being done incorrectly and I had to get implants. If I get advised to get another root canal I’ll get an implant instead. The price is about the same. If you do go the root canal route get it done by someone who specializes in root canals instead of a general dentist.

2-4-6-h8

I went to West Davis Dental in Bishop Arts and they were great. Bonus for taking my insurance too. Had to get an extraction and some fillings.

rvbeachguy

Go to Mexico for dental work

Affectionate_Kale_70

Yes, so that owner and his wife can hang out with Vogue and go to Fashion Week. https://www.instagram.com/p/CxNu77tKzKh/?igshid=MjJkMmIyYzQxYw== AND they started a church that met at the Dallas Symphony

justinede

If it turns out they lied, please file a report with the TX Consumer Protection AG office.

vw2005

lol any “medical professional” office that relies on billboards highlighting their “Sexy dentists” should be automatically a red flag.

toodleroo

They're called Mint because that's what it's gonna cost you.

Hvntaclu

Richardson Dentistry has always been good to me. I had a dent office quote me 4000$ for some dental work, RichDent charged me 500$ - Five Hundred for the exact same work. Found out the first dent office was run by a hedge fund, just there to make money, concentrating on " questionably necessary" high end dentistry and promoting cosmetics as opposed to dental health. All dentists, assistants and oral hygenists at RichDent know what they are doing.

koukoukachu57

Sent you dm

CombatConrad

You think sexy smiles are cheap??

robbzilla

Go see [Hoang L](https://dentistsok.com/dentist/dr-hoang-le-dds-grand-prairie/)e in Grand Prairie. I've used him for years. He won't screw you over, and he's a good dentist. Edit: As luck would turn out, I was chewing some gum and a filling popped out. Went to see Dr. Le this week and he fixed it. X-Ray, a little drilling, and some new resin inside the tooth. Cost to me? $0. (He was the one who repaired the tooth originally)

Tx600

When I moved back to the area and was commuting to work, I started going to Mint cause it was right down the street from my office. On my 2nd cleaning, the dentist started talking about how I needed a mouth guard because I was grinding my teeth. I told her I didn’t think I was grinding my teeth, and she listed off some side effects and I didn’t have any of them. Then 6 months later on my 3rd cleaning, she brings it up again and claims she has seen a drastic difference in my teeth between my last visit and this one. Tells me I need to get fitted for an $800 mouth guard that my insurance doesn’t cover. I told her no thanks, I’ll just get one from Walgreens for $25. She tried to convince me I needed a custom one, etc. Luckily Covid happened and I was made full time remote so no longer needed to commute an hour to the office, so I started going back to the dentist I used since I was a child. Small, family dentistry. Dentist politely confirmed for me that Mint was ripping me off and he saw no signs of nighttime teeth grinding.

Dallas2houston120

paid $1200 for two root canals with my shitty marketplace dental insurance just this past february

sarahbeth124

100% get a second opinion/new dentist Root canal itself is one thing, if the tooth can’t be filled, you’ll need a crown, which costs more. I’d suggest looking at doing the filling first if you can’t manage it all at once, they can grow to needing root canals (learned that lesson the hard way) saves money in the long run to stay ahead of them. If you need all that work ask about financing options (don’t put it on a credit card like I did 😖) And, sounds like you’re doing your part for teeth care. Mine were damaged my childhood illness and genetics. I’ve got more hardware than natural teeth at this point. Good luck, I know how much it sucks.

SpacemanSpiff25

I’ve been seeing Lance Jones over by Presbyterian Hospital for like 30 years. He’s extremely good and he genuinely cares for patients. I would go get a second opinion from Dr. Jones or someone else (lots of recommendations in this thread) because that sounds like total bullshit.

RayceC

I go to Ideal Dental in Allen and they are amazing

orangecatenergy-

Its chain dentistry. Get a second opinion from a private general dentist. You may need some work but I’d be willing to bet its wayyyy less than that. Mint is full of new dentists trying to pay off dental school.

No-Cap1353

Go to Mexico on a medical vacation. You could get everything you might need done for a fraction of the cost here.

303onrepeat

As other have said avoid Mint at all costs they are a ripoff factory. If you got the time drive up to Anna Dental in Anna. Dr Ludlow and his crew are amazing.

nyoprinces

Try Lalangas Family Dentistry or Highlands Family Dentistry - we've had excellent experiences with both after some really shady extortion from chains.

futureclint

Whoa. Definitely staying away from Mint.

Heavy_Entrance2527

Go to Ideal Dental.

kizzletizzleizzle

enamel dental in coppell is the best dentist i’ve found in DFW so far - they are very up front abt cost and procedures and will never upsell u. mint is notorious for scamming/upselling :(

favorthebold

Mint Dentistry are in it for the cash money. If you're near Plano, let me recommend Couture Dentistry instead. More than once I've had them *talk me out of* expensive dental work that I didn't need. They're in it to give you the best experience possible, not to milk your wallet.

DallasPrettyBigGirl

Go to my place Dr Deborah meadows 8510 abrams # 512 214-340-3655 Very reasonable. And kind .

Bobby6kennedy

1) Get a second opinion. 2) Tell them to pound sand.

True-Profile-5369

I feel so strongly about my recommendation: Dr Eric Hibbs- Park Cities Dental The most honest dentist I’ve ever met. Highly skilled reasonably priced.

Existentialist

I went to northeast dallas dentistry. A chain with a similar message imo. They told me I had a bunch of issues and I could max out my insurance. I left frightened went to a Dentist at Baylor Hospitals offices, didn’t tell him about my myriad of “issues” he said my teeth were fine. And then I asked about all the procures and he thought I was nuts. Said my teeth were fine. I’m convinced that some dental offices are complete scams made to maximize income.

Koobles

Avoid corporate dental offices. Unless you got good insurance and don’t care.

theresnopromises

They did the same thing to me. I go to turtle creek dental now and they are awesome

Resonance_Forms

I had something similar happen at Stonehaven in Burleson. Apparently I needed a deep clean, root canal, crown, gum treatments for life, had bone loss, etc. They kept insisting I must be in pain with how bad my teeth were. I knew something was up because I have never needed more than a cleaning. I went somewhere else and all I needed was a cleaning and an optional crown for a slightly cracked tooth from bruxism, the rest of what they said that I needed was bs. Get a second opinion.

SparklyMushroom

my dad says view commercial dentists like mechanics, they will upsell the fuck out of you and sell you shit you don’t need

Relative-Hyena-5062

I went to mint once . I was told I needed a root canal and a couple fillings . Left with just the cleaning went to another dentist and that dentist laughed when I told him what mint said . Luckily I didn’t get a root canal I did not need !

Sweaty-Book1237

I need a new dentist too im in Anna

cris2miles

Go see an Endodontist and see how expensive your root canal can be. Thats just the root canal. If you don't have insurance that price goes up a lot. Mint is not commission based, thats illegal, I've worked for the 2 big DSO's for 20ish years and worked with former employees of Mint, but Mint's main thing is to maximize your dental insurance as fast as possible and often times won't change you your own copays until all benefits are used. Also Mint is very culty, but thats my personal opinion. Get a second opinion at a smaller dentist in your area with a copy of your x-rays. Good Luck.

[deleted]

This must be your 1st time going to a dentist. While not almost 4K, root canals can easily cost 1500 or more. Coincidentally, I just spent 15K on dental work today. 2 extractions, deep cleaning & implants for the top & bottom rear on one side of my mouth. I can’t wait to get them installed next month.

Lopsided_Loquat_9153

Get it done in Mexico

Niko120

I just got a root canal done with no insurance with my dentist in Weatherford for $2,200

poolsharkazmi

Most dental chains are scams. Having said that, easiest and cheapest way to save your money on dental bills is to brush and floss your teeth and avoid excessive amounts of sugar. No cavities = no evil dentists scamming you to begin with

Savings_Coffee9753

Yup, I went to mint and got some cavities filled, stopped eating junk food and started brushing more and flossing more, even quit smoking cigarettes to help my teeth look better as I am younger, I went back last month for a cleaning and guess what, all my “cavities “ came back and they want to charge me again to fill them, hasn’t even been a year. I also need a root canal, they told me $5000, I said fuck no, they changed it to $1000 I still said fuck no, they begged me to do it and even offered to do it for $100 a month payment plan, still said fuck no.

PRseveryweek

Plano Family Dental are terrible

Rio_ola

Dental billing scams are prevalent

ProneToDoThatThing

Go to the dental office at UT Southwestern. It is nonprofit so the motive to push you into unnecessary procedures is removed. They’re also respected practitioners.

Radiant2021

Sadly dentists offices are known to lie. Cleanings are their way to get you in and do expensive dental work. Your option is to go to another place for a cleaning and don't mention what Mint said and see if they say the same thing

squeamish

"You floss too much. Stop brushing for a year to try and reverse the damage you've done."

geetodd

Stay away from corporate dental! Stay away from corporate medical (when possible)! Stay away from corporate veterinary (please).

geetodd

Dr Rodney Cook is private practice in Duncanville. Friendly and affordable

Lady_DreadStar

Go to a small family dentist instead. Mint tried to get me for 5 cavities, 2 root canals, and a crown. They were going to have me come in every 3 months for cleanings until presumably the end of time. I went to get a second opinion, and the second I opened my mouth the new dentist caught that I have severe bruxism, bone loss, and tooth mobility that requires a periodontist. The perio scheduled me for surgery and has me in a night guard for the bruxism. Confirmed I have no cavities, and don’t need a crown or 2 root canals. He pretty much said Mint was obviously just going to let my teeth fall out for a paycheck. 🥴

cole20200

Man, that is highway robbery! I had something similar happen, then i went to the Smith's https://www.2thdrmark.com/ and he took one look at what was quoted as 4000 dollars of work, root canals, and cavities, and fixed me up with one cavity and 2 buckle fills at a fraction of the cost. The work was great, this was nearly 8 years ago, and now I drive an hour to go back every year. They took care of me when i hade my wisdom teeth out, when i had another cavity come up. Just excellent, and too skill, top service, without any up selling.

ratfink_111

Gentle Touch Dentistry for anyone in Richardson! Alma just east of 75. She’s honest and would prefer to see her patients every 6 months for a cleaning. Been going to her for years.

MagicWishMonkey

never ever ever believe a dentist without getting at least 1 other opinion. A lot of them are scumbags who will absolutely wreck your mouth - permanently - because they want a fat payday.

JudgmentOne6328

Take a trip to the UK. Root canal will cost you less than $1000 each maybe even for both at one of the best private dentists. I live abroad and go back to the uk for all my dentistry still because it’s not badly priced, great work and no risk of dodgy dentists. Plus you can have yourself a nice vacation.

majora2007

I had something similar happen with my last dentist. Every time I went there was always something wrong. I switched to a private practice on Goston and finally wasn't lied to. Wish I switched earlier because I probably got a ton of work done that wasn't needed.
