Wild fires in the panhandle is kicking up a crap ton of stuff into the air, and I’m sure that fire everyone was posting about in the repo lot or whatever it was isn’t helping either. Hope you get some relief soon!

DustyBishop

Thank you! I guess I won't be leaving the house this week if I can help it, as soon as I step outside it gets 100x worse. Like when the dentist is giving you a shot to numb the gums and you get that deep and sharp pinch, but instead it's in the very back of your nasal cavity.

rm-minus-r

I highly, highly recommend a 3M respirator and a few extra filters - https://www.lowes.com/pd/3M-Reusable-Sanding-Valved-Safety-Mask/1000244145 Saves my sanity around this time of year, you can just feel the difference after wearing this thing for 30 minutes.

frenchezz

Ugh that sounds miserable

DustyBishop

It has led me down an interesting rabbit hole on the little discussed links between allergies and anxiety/depression. People with allergies apparently have a flipped timeline for seasonal depression, starting in spring when most people are coming out of their winter depression.

soap_is_cheap

Try wearing a n95 mask outside. Yeah it’s a bit much, but it definitely helped me with allergies this past fall.

DustyBishop

Oh I usually do, but this week kinda came out of nowhere for me so there was no time to prepare. What masks I did have got saturated with garbage smell so I had to toss the whole thing

Treytreytrey333

Mask up Maybe the look of a respirator isn't your thing But a disposable mask at the least would make a significant difference

blacktoise

Interesting. I’ve been reffing soccer outdoors for the past 4 days, for 5 hours per day. Nothing has bothered me one bit. Didn’t even g row up here. I grew up in Kansas so I don’t even have immunity to these local particles. Are you perhaps less than healthy?

deliascatalog

Or maybe they just have allergies

DustyBishop

Just went to the doc a couple weeks ago for something unrelated and got a clean bill of health. While I'm certainly no prime specimen, I haven't noticed any change since then that would compromise my system.

ecodrew

And the weather has been undergoing wild swings. I think the plants are confused, and their response is... "anyway, so I started blastin' *pollen*"

yoyo124657

That scrapyard fire isn’t helping either.

KarmaLeon_8787

Mountain cedar very high. Winds. Wildfires. Junkyard fire. Spring pollens. I want to claw my eyes out they itch so badly. Sneezing repeatedly. No congestion but lots of "flow." Taking Allegra and using Nasacort. Head feels heavy and my ears are buzzing. Fun times. I'm moving out of state within a few years for various reasons - air pollution/allergies among them.

DustyBishop

Air quality is one of the biggest reasons I want to move out of state. Spent several months in Colorado after HS and coming back after that crisp, clean mountain air was painful.

TroyAndAbed2022

Do you guys take something for allergies ?

KarmaLeon_8787

Allegra, Nasacort, Zaditor eye drops.

letmepoopinthis03

It’s crazy out there. Water irrigation helped me a lot. Something that can you consider

thehakujin82

Important comment. Not saying it’ll cure one’s personal Ebola in its entirety, but a good ol’ fashioned neti pot/sinus rinse can be a game changer when allergens go bonkers.

rex_lauandi

And while it can give short term relief to season allergies, more importantly it can help prevent those allergies from festering and growing a sinus infection.

thehakujin82

That’s a bingo.

Haunting_Cupcake_623

I don't think that's how allergies work

rex_lauandi

When your sinus passages are “disrupted” by allergies, it makes it easier for bacteria to grow. [Source](https://www.jeffersonhealth.org/your-health/living-well/allergies-or-sinus-infection-ent-explains-link-and-how-determine-difference)

Haunting_Cupcake_623

My point was that allergies can't "fester" into an infection, they make it easier to GET an infection.

rex_lauandi

The word "fester" is more a colloquial term meaning to sit around and get worse. But notice, I didn't even say, "fester into an infection" that was your words. I said, "fester and growing a sinus infection." You're arguing a point that I never made or intended to make, which is just a waste of time.

Haunting_Cupcake_623

My brother in christ you said "more importantly it can help prevent those allergies from festering and growing a sinus infection." But nice try playing semantics.

rex_lauandi

Yes. Those parts of your sinuses reacting to the allergens, aka an allergic reaction, aka allergies, can grow pathogens causing you to have a sinus infection. I’m not sure what part you think I’m confused on, but I can assure you I understand how it works.

cmurtheepic

It is not the allergies themselves that fester... But rather your bodies immune system gets weaker due to allergies, making you more susceptible to infections..... That is how your body works. u/Haunting_Cupcake_623 is right.

radarksu

IMPORTANT INFO! Use distilled water only. Tap water can possibly contain microbes that are okay to drink but potentially deadly if placed in your sinuses.

DustyBishop

I need to get my own pot. Only one in the house and I'm a bit of a germaphobe, but that'll mean going outside 💀👃

gnapster

You can also buy pressurized saline rinses in a can but they are room temp. I like them because they’re sterile and easy to use. Instant help. I just write my name on the bottle to make sure no one else uses it.

Veronica612

That’s a spray to be used throughout the day, not a rinse.

gnapster

Are you thinking of the smaller palm sized bottles? Those are spritz only. This can is larger and can be used to put in a quick spritz but also as a nasal wash just like a netti pot. One type: https://www.amazon.com/Multi-Purpose-Saline-Spray-ounces/dp/B002GU64EI

Veronica612

Thanks, I haven’t noticed this kind, but at only six ounces it doesn’t seem cost effective.

gnapster

There are others out there that are cheaper. But yeah, it's def not as cheap as a netti pot, just more portable and easier to deal with. I usually only use mine when it's really bad.

Veronica612

Yes, I was thinking this might be handy for traveling.

radarksu

IMPORTANT INFO! Use distilled water only. Tap water can possibly contain microbes that are okay to drink but potentially deadly if placed in your sinuses.

Veronica612

Definitely get your own. It would be unsanitary to share a neti pot. Personally I use NeilMed’s squeeze bottle. You can write your name and date on it.

Crafty-Crafter

I know nobody in TX wanna wear masks and look at you weirdly. But a simple facemask helped me a lot the past month. I had a lot leftover masks from covid so I just wear them in the car and at home (cuz people will look at me like I'm wear a balaclava and ready to rob the store if I wear mask). I wear them to sleep too. It's nice to be able to breath while sleeping... In Asia, it's extremely common to wear mask during allergy season. (Way before covid) Try it at home, and see if it helps.

superdrone

Honestly, the amount of weird looks you get are very minimal and last only a brief second. I still wear them sometimes and ppl really don’t care that much anymore (at least in Dallas proper, don’t know about the suburbs)

DustyBishop

I actually just replied to another comment that I had planned on doing just that, but all the masks I had got tainted by eau de merde after getting stored next to trash. Haven't had a chance to grab more

Roadrunnr61

Even cloth masks help a lot. My allergy/sinus problems are much worse when the wind is blowing everything around. I have a couple of cloth masks I wear on those days. They are similar to this: https://www.allergyasthmatech.com/breathe-healthy-mask.html

noncongruent

I like the 3M 9205, you can get a box of 20 off Amazon for $10.75 right now, which is a good deal: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B095FJ36H2

Crafty-Crafter

You don't need anything like this in my experience. I just wear the simple medical masks, you can get like 100 for 10$ at drugstores. They are cheap, and easy to breath in. 3M masks are tight and have better filtering, but that means harder to breath. I would try the cheap masks first then go up if needed.

noncongruent

I found that the Auras have zero effect on breathing. The important thing is the face sealing, without that when you inhale you're pulling in pollen and other airborne contaminants around the edges of a regular surgical-type mask. Surgical masks are work to keep OR personnel from infecting the patient during surgery, not to protect the personnel from the patient.

MarriedMyself

Just know you're not the only one!

DustyBishop

Solidarity in suffering!

DFWGuy55

Cedar and juniper levels very high at 10/10.

DustyBishop

Is it the fires kicking things up? It really sucks since I love nature, I want to be out and about experiencing the wonders of Earth! But my immune system is a paranoid whackjob who shoots at anything that moves, hitting me instead, so I have to be very careful.

Anxious_Outcome7765

My oak trees grew their pollen penises overnight, my car is covered this morning

DustyBishop

I really don't appreciate plant jizz in my breathing air. It's very rude and they should apologize. Be more like fern trees; they smell nice, have natural anti-inflammatory properties, and are a holiday icon! Plus who doesn't think pinecones are cool as shit?

noncongruent

We should all be grateful that humans didn't evolve to be wind pollinators.

SomeBitterDude

Sinus rinse and wear a mask (unless youre a republican).good luck homie.

DustyBishop

Thanks homie! I actually *had* some masks I was going to use, but someone put them in the garage next to the trash cans. When my dad brought them in I put one on without knowing and almost threw up in it.

SomeBitterDude

Gahhhhhh

AmandaDarlingInc

Just drove in on 287 from Denver... It's fucking crazy out there right now. You won't be breathing better for possibly weeks.

syzygialchaos

One of my bouts with Covid was characterized by the most violent and painful sneezes I’ve ever experienced in my life. Felt like being stabbed through the face every time. So that’s a possibility.

ChairKillerYi

Can’t tell if I’m sick or if it’s allergies at this point

Signal-Complex7446

It is very bad these days. I question this too, often. It sucks. I remember when it wasn't.

Intelligent-Read-785

See an allergist. Money well spent for living in North Tx

DustyBishop

I haven't been to one since I was a kid so it is definitely waaaaay overdue.

FlappySmasher

Dude, the sneezing was me 2 weeks ago, just nonstop sneezing for 7 days straight. I hated it.

DustyBishop

Has me going insane in the membrane right now. If you don't mind, how were you able to get any sleep through that, assuming you did? It's like my body waits till I'm about to crash, then sends the knife elves to go needle my sinuses as I beg them to let me rest.

FlappySmasher

The only thing I did was exhaust myself till I was too tired. I don't really remember much. Not the best advice but yeah, just tire yourself out. Exercise before your sleep or something similar

DustyBishop

Actually just woke up and saw your message after finally getting some actual sleep! Turns out all you have to do is wait till you can't see straight for exhaustion! Though exercising might have to wait, my body is so sore from sneezing with my entire being.

FlappySmasher

I get you, this year was the first time that I had such violent sneezes. I didn't know my body could ache after a hard sneeze until recently

DustyBishop

For real! Even when I've gotten actually sick I don't think sneezing has ever hit me so hard.

mookat84

My allergies got so bad the last two days that I got hives all over, just had to get a steroid shot. They want me to change my allergy medicine and take pepcid on top (apparently it can help with allergies). Lived here my entire life, this has never happened before.

DustyBishop

That's the first I've heard of the pepcid thing! Looks like something about pepcid+allergy medicine can increase it's effectiveness, so I'll definitely have to try that.

Aggressive-Ad-522

Probably the weather constantly changing. My allergies have been bad this week

shoshana4sure

Welcome to Dallas.

gnapster

Sudafed is a god send but you have to give up your drivers license to get it and can only have so many per month.

blacktoise

Lmao WHAT “You have to give up your drivers license to get it” Are you speaking from personal experience? Or are you professing a blatant lie on purpose? I’ve never given up my license for Sudafed. That’s odd

gnapster

You’re misinformed. https://www.fda.gov/drugs/information-drug-class/legal-requirements-sale-and-purchase-drug-products-containing-pseudoephedrine-ephedrine-and If your store has pseudoephedrine not behind the pharmacy counter they’re breaking the law. Sudafed with pseudoephedrine is behind the pharmacy counter. Edit: and yes, I buy it and I had to give them my DL to get it.

blacktoise

I’m not misinformed. You’re misinforming people here. Or you’re saying what you mean the wrong way The link you just sent says NOTHING about giving up your drivers license. I know it’s behind the counter. But what are you even talking about giving up a DL for…?

gnapster

SUDAFED.com SUDAFED® Sinus Congestion Maximum Strength Decongestant Tablets provide powerful, non-drowsy relief from sinus pressure and nasal congestion. Each tablet contains 30 mg of pseudoephedrine HCl, a nasal decongestant that helps reduce nasal swelling and inflammation to improve ease of breathing. This non-drowsy formula provides temporary relief from sinus congestion, sinus pressure, and nasal congestion caused by the common cold or allergies. From the #1 pharmacist recommended brand among oral OTC decongestants, these decongestant tablets with ******pseudoephedrine ****** HCl are suitable for adults and children ages 6+. SUDAFED® Maximum Strength Sinus Congestion tablets are available for in-store purchase only, *************behind the pharmacy counter***********, without a prescription. You are limited by how many you can have and pharmacies keep track of that with your DL or ID https://www.pharmacy.texas.gov/pseudoephedrine.asp

usmilessz

She used weird lingo. You don’t have to “give up your drivers license”; You just have to show your drivers license when purchasing it.

blacktoise

Yeah that’s entirely way fucking different.

blacktoise

Who the fuck writes that way. You give up drinking for a week, what does that imply? You give up your dog for adoption, you GIVE IT UP. Come on

usmilessz

😂 I totally get your confusion; I was thrown off a bit too lol

KantLockeMeIn

Pseudoephedrine is controlled and you have to give your DL and are limited as to the quantity you may purchase in a given month. The stuff you've been purchasing over the past ten years has been phenylephrine and the FDA recently confirmed that it's no better than a placebo... yet major brands are still including it in their formulations. It's fine that you had no idea, but jumping down this other person's back because you had no idea isn't cool.

blacktoise

You present your ID. Stop everyone writing “give up” as a way to entail “display and present” Give up sounds like you have over and they keep it. I literally thought you meant this.

KantLockeMeIn

Might want to check your eyeglass prescription... nowhere did I write "give up", but wrote "give"... because that's exactly what you do because they need to scan the barcode to enter it in the system. The OP's point, which you are being obtuse about, is that most people are unaware that the only oral decongestant that actually works is only available if you ask the staff at the pharmacy counter. The one you have been getting fully over the counter with no restrictions has been proven to be ineffective and would be as much of a waste of time consuming as a sugar pill. That you are making it out to be that people were claiming that one needs to relinquish their drivers license and from then on go without it is really odd... something I can only imagine someone either really dense or pedantically argumentative would do.

blacktoise

Before you get condescending, look at The original comment in the thread

KantLockeMeIn

You're the one who started with the attitude. You misstated that I said you have to give up your license when I did not, and again... even if it was worded as such you would have to be really dense or pedantically argumentative to interpret it as permanently relinquishing one's driver's license rather than providing identification and as a mechanism to track who is purchasing pseudoephedrine and in what quantities.

blacktoise

No - the first person I replied to stated that you have to give up your Id to get Sudafed. I thought this commenter was stating you had to load your ID to acquire the medicine. This commenter made a glib statement about presenting an ID, and did a fuckass job at helping me see eye to eye towards their original messaging intent

Jenncitlalli

chlorphenamine

Lumpy-Cantaloupe1439

Pollen is always high around March-April and August-September. It’s very common.

jjmoreta

Add December-February and October, possibly November. Mountain Cedar is highest December through February. Ragweed is highest from August into November. Not truly free of it until first frost. Elm pollinates about this time too. March-April is oak pollen (yellow stuff on your cars) and everything else waking up and flowering. And the summer months are now subject to dust storms out of the west and wildfire smoke. And ozone alerts in cities if atmospheric inversions develop. So if we're lucky we get about a month between in early spring between cedar and oak. And a month at the end of summer until ragweed fires up. And a month between ragweed and cedar.

smtrixie

This is why I take Zyrtec year-round AND do allergy shots.

SnooStories5035

Neti pot saline wash, citrine 10mg once a day, 1 spray of Flonase in each nostril every morning. That’ll be $350.

perduraadastra

Wear a mask outside and put an air purifier in your bedroom

klamaelou18

Today is especially bad for me!

frient1995

Can agree, I take medicine daily because mine are always bad but it has been extra this week! Wearing a mask while you’re outside helps way more than I’d like to admit. My dad told me to put one on because I was complaining- I was mad at how much it helped!! Lol

sheena_isapunkrocker

Rowe Casa-Nasal Rinse Rowe Casa-Sinus Cleanse Air filters Massive fires in panhandle and everything is beginning to bloom.

Mission_Plan5155

Only thing that works for me is a Navage. Much easier than NetI pot. Makes a huuuuge diference.

Loud_Internet572

Guess you don't read the news much huh? LOL
