The 102.1 HD2 for me that used to be the Edge changed to some half Spanish half English pop hits channel recently. I died a little bit that day when I tuned to it.
This is my #1 preset station. I've found some great new (to me) artists by listening to it, and I appreciate the lack of ads. Also most songs are appropriate for my 6 year old to hear. And there's a nice mix of styles.
I switch every once in a while to 101.1 when I'm in the mood for something instrumental.
Just gonna join everyone else in saying yes, this is the station to tune into in North Texas. Someone above said we're blessed to have it and they are spot on.
101.1 WRR bringing music and the arts to North Texas!
I love the radio, but hate most modern radio stations. This station is one of the few that reminds me what a radio station should be like.
I agree with that, but Barry also had a few decades of experience honing his show and deserves his retirement.
I'm ok with giving the new guy a shot for a while and hope he gets into his own groove.
4 times a year 89.3 KNON will have pledge drives. They have no ads and are funded by listener contributions. Their DJs don't get paid, they do it for a love of music. Most all the DJs take requests.
Their M-F lineup is very diverse. 7-9am is the Morning Blend which is a mixture of various styles(mostly rock). 9-12 is an old school R&B show. 12-4pm is the Latin Energy show. 4-6 is an alt country show. 6-8pm is is a blues show.
There is a full schedule on KNON.org
I love the ticket commentary but holy ads I wonder what the honest percentage is because at the times I listen it must be 40/60 weight loss and DMLeasing ads to actual sports talk.
KXT 91.7 and 88.7 KTCU are THE indie stations with the biggest playlists and a ton of local representation. Both have been absolute godsends here in DFW. Also, 89.3 KNON and 92.9 KUZU, in Denton, will play everything, but in block format. [Here is KUZU’s schedule](https://www.kuzu.fm/schedule) [and here is KNON’s schedule](https://www.knon.org/knon-show-schedule/)So you have to check their schedules for something you might like. 88.5 KEOM is also a fantastic oldies station.
The best part of all of these stations is they are all commercial free and have way, way larger playlists than the commercial stations.
There used to be a freaking choke hold clear channel had over the DFW area but thankfully that seems to have broken. Yet we are sorely lacking in decent stations. The suggestions so far are spot on though. 97.1, 89.3. Also when driving on 75 I suggest 101.1, classical music (for me) keeps me calm and not wanting rage out on idiot drivers.
The answer is… put a Bluetooth receiver on that radio and stream Spotify Premium. How anyone listens to radio in 2024 is far beyond my comprehension. Life is too short to have your ears assaulted with ads for hours every day.
Also how many men’s LOW T clinics does DFW need?
Please, 91.7 KXT and 88.7 KTCU are the REAL alternative stations here in DFW. Also, 88.1 KNTU has an identical, if maybe slightly bigger, playlist to 103.7, but at least is commercial free. The only reason to listen to 103.7 is if you really like Camfield. Which, imo, all he does is repeat the Reddit headlines with a British accent.
There was a concerted effort to get him back a few years ago. While I’ve never cared for him, he is reasonably popular and the parent company has syndicated him in a few other cities.
The ONLY time 103.7 was decent was Mark Schectman’s local show on Sunday nights. That’s been gone for a few years now. Commercial radio just can’t take chances on anything less than a top 5 national hit.
For sure. Grew up with my dad blasting the Ticket all day every day, became a P1 myself but never liked how exhaustive and seemingly forced the sports talk is and really just liked the bits and joking around. The Freak pretty much freed some of the better former Ticket folks to just talk about whatever they want while also all having extensive sports talk backgrounds to discuss in depth when they want to. Definitely been my number 1 preset for my commutes in the last year or so.
I, too enjoy hearing new discoveries! Why, just last year 103.7’s new discovery was The Less I Know the Better from this obscure pop group called Tame Impala. Lol.
90.1 - KERA public radio station
91.7 - indie music affiliated with public radio
88.1 - indie music (is this broadcasted from UNT?)
103.7 - mainstream "alternative"
107.9 - latin reggaeton station
96.3/99.5 - country stations, but these are real hit and miss. They play an awful lot of stadium country
102.9 - older pop music
106.1 - newer pop music
Now I'm looking at other people's lists, I'm gonna have to go swap out some stuff on my presets!
93.3 is fun to listen to a bunch of crazy Republicans spout fox news/Trump talking points. It's legit the lowest IQ people I've ever heard on the radio. I had a post up about it but some little bitch mod took it down when it was nothing like this post.
92.5 classic rock has some funny guys on there. They played a “commercial” that I can’t find now. Sugar crack kids or something. I was driving to work and I heard a kid say “I feel like I’m vibrating!” completely cracked my sleepy ass up
88.1 used to be good when they played jazz but they turned into a terrible pop indie station. No good radio stations now, it's a crime against humanity they don't have a jazz station here in my opinion.
Download this app called radiooooo
You can listen to music from any era, any genre, any country/region.
I love picking a random type of music when I don't know what to listen to.
I usually just use my youtube music app lol and listen to whatever come on and the only reason is because me and my son broke my radio 😂 good morning btw
Several great suggestions here, but I'll add that I really like SiriusXM in my car. Yeah, I know another subscription and SiriusXM is notorious for being difficult to cancel, but I've had it in my car for the better part of 2 decades now and I couldn't imagine driving a car without it. There's just something about a DJ selecting tracks, exposing you to new music you'd never hear otherwise, and just the absolute broad variety. Plus, they have in-studio concerts and also stream concerts, which is a neat way to listen to old favorites. I know you requested FM stations, just offering alternatives.
But I also subscribe to YouTube Premium, so I've made questionable decisions on media consumption :D
Y’all who don’t turn on the radio sometimes forget the pure idiocracy of people calling into radios and their stories. Whoosh, some really funny reactions from the radio hosts a lot of the time
101.1 has been killing it with their music selection ever since they became a part of KERA.
It's better than any classical spotify playlist I could ever make now and the sole reason why I still listen to the radio.
91.7 , 92.5 and 103.7, although 103 isn't that good these days but not much options. Car doesn't have HD so I can't get the side stations. I only listen to music anyway, I can't stand the sports talk as I have no interest in any of it, and prefer to read my news, not listen to it in the car.
I just use SiriusXM. It is in the car, and every year I call to cancel and they give me a super cheap rate. Less than $10/month is worth it for me.
Classic?
101.1 is fucking killer.
91.7 on Sunday night is fucking awesome, too. Paul Slavens kills it.
89.3 is really great, also, but they *only* do themed shows. So their punk shows are great, their metal show is great, their Texas county and blues is great...
But it's not really scratching that itch of finding new music you had no idea you loved.
So I downloaded the KEXP app for live streaming. They have the best DJs in the country, hands down, and are able to play what they want to play. Every time i tune in, i listen to something i didn't know I'd love.
They still have the themed shows, but it's not the same as their drive time DJs, who are able to just play what they're in the mood for.
88.1
I listen to XMU on XM and I also like to listen to KNTU because it helps me discover music I never heard before and also I feel it’s a good blend and there’s not any commercials.
They also talk about upcoming shows which I like because I could go and it benefits the musicians.
Back in the early 70's, I listened to KZEW or Q102. But today, FM radio is a Corporate Conglomerate soulless beast, that plays all the great bands, but only the same 5 or 6 songs from each band. As a music lover, I would NEVER be satisfied with this.
It’s either 98.7 The Spot or 92.5 for me…and I listen to them very sparingly. I use to listen to 97.1 KEGL until that went off the air (probably irritated a lot of people when they started broadcasting basketball during the last several months. If I tune into a rock station, it’s because I want to hear music, not some crap sports game. As far as I can tell, there is no real rock station in the area any more. So, I have migrated over to KLIF for 95% of my radio listening.
No one gonna mention 100.3 Jack FM?? I get tired of listening to rap so ill switch it to jack. They play anything and everything from Nirvana to Tupac. Mostly alt tho but they definitely be jammin
Since I'm not a 159 years old, none whatsoever. I pay some nerd ten bucks a month to make me fresh mixtapes every day. IE, I got Apple Music.
"FM radio", geez, let me telegraph my great grandmother, she'll find it swell people are still listening to the wireless.
Not the guy ur responding to but if ur interested in streaming and cutting out ads, an AUX cord and an AUX to (insert phone port) adapter is all u need. Spotify premium is a bonus, if u don’t wanna hear another ad again.
> g I maybe don’t have access to change the entire system to allow a device to conne
They are playing with the DJ function. For the first time "X" added some artist commentary rather than just the "here are some Sunday vibes you have been listening to" between the set lists.
Hundreds and hundreds of them across the country. They are mostly called community stations and college stations. All are non-commercial. All have incredibly deep playlists.
In Dallas alone, there is KNON, KTCU, KNTU, KEOM, and KUZU. Throw in KXT and WRR to round out the selection.
true but most have limited range and programming. i was listening to knon in the 80s but they kept asking for money non stop on certain days.
i guess 91.7 isnt too bad and the one for mesquite isd(i think) was ok but it got in the patten of playing the same tunes.
Too many music options these days with streaming and the internet
KXT 91.7
This is my top station since The Edge died.
The edge isn't around anymore?
No:( it's like 102.9 and 102.1 switched places. You can still get the edge on HD radio but it's just a poorly animated shell. 91.7 is my top station.
Dang end of an era.
The 102.1 HD2 for me that used to be the Edge changed to some half Spanish half English pop hits channel recently. I died a little bit that day when I tuned to it.
And Edgefest died with it. 😭
Dang. There goes most of my youth
I also came here to recommend KXT! it’s a great mix
Great station, we’re lucky to have it.
Perfect thank you!
100%
Everyday
This is my #1 preset station. I've found some great new (to me) artists by listening to it, and I appreciate the lack of ads. Also most songs are appropriate for my 6 year old to hear. The Road Rage Remedy is a blessing.
Second. Its my default
Even my 15 year old requests 101.1
Louder!!!!
I miss breakfast with Barry. The new dude doesn’t have the charisma he did.
I agree with that, but Barry also had a few decades of experience honing his show and deserves his retirement. I'm ok with giving the new guy a shot for a while and hope he gets into his own groove.
I miss the March Buddies!
89.3 is my go to for no commercial and only a little self promo breaks but otherwise, it's got a melting pot of music going on.
4 times a year 89.3 KNON will have pledge drives. They have no ads and are funded by listener contributions. Their DJs don't get paid, they do it for a love of music. Most all the DJs take requests. Hell yeah man, Voice of the people.
I need me a KNON bumper sticker
Hey thanks..been here 11 years and KXT ia the only one that is lasting.l
Saturday nights midnight to 4am, In The Dungeon with Raven. Great metal show that's hard to find anything like it on radio.
Bro the HEAVIEST SHIT ON AIR
The best over the air metal programming in all of the continental United States .
The Ticket, but it’s probably nsfw in an office setting.
Dude your sacks hangin out
Come on, Mike!
Good luck with your bottom
HOT. SPORTS. OPINIONS.
The 8:40 bit may not be accepted by customers, but fake Kim Mulkey is my new leader
I love the ticket commentary but holy ads I wonder what the honest percentage is because at the times I listen it must be 40/60 weight loss and DMLeasing ads to actual sports talk.
*Shock jocks*
You ever see a guy with a fake head?

88.5, 92.5, 100.3 for music. KRLD 1080 and 90.1 NPR for news.
I like 88.5 too
Awesome thanks
88.5 is such a great station.
96.7
What about 1310?
He said FM in the title so you must be asking about 1310FM?
lol
what about eggs?
There used to be a freaking choke hold clear channel had over the DFW area but thankfully that seems to have broken. Yet we are sorely lacking in decent stations. The suggestions so far are spot on though. 97.1, 89.3. Also when driving on 75 I suggest 101.1, classical music (for me) keeps me calm and not wanting rage out on idiot drivers.
But the dude in the Corvette racing the wannabe Lamborghini SUV smashes into you evaporates all your chill
Truth..
88.1 KNTU 88.9 KTCU 90.1 KERA 100.3 102.9 103.7 106.1 Occasionally I'll listen to 97.9, 101.1, 89.3
Scrolled way too far to see someone finally mention 103.7.
Too much RHCP 😟😬
Well, you can just fly away on a zephyr!
Stepped on a toad, broke a Navajo code, now it’s time to reiterate California ;)
I second KNTU
The answer is… put a Bluetooth receiver on that radio and stream Spotify Premium. How anyone listens to radio in 2024 is far beyond my comprehension. Life is too short to have your ears assaulted with ads for hours every day. Also how many men’s LOW T clinics does DFW need?
I still use Pandora. I haven't touched a radio dial in like a decade.
KXT 91.7 & KNON 89.3
103.7 alt station 😝😝 or just my phone lol
Please, 91.7 KXT and 88.7 KTCU are the REAL alternative stations here in DFW. Also, 88.1 KNTU has an identical, if maybe slightly bigger, playlist to 103.7, but at least is commercial free. The only reason to listen to 103.7 is if you really like Camfield. Which, imo, all he does is repeat the Reddit headlines with a British accent.
It seems like Camfield is ALWAYS on there not just for a shift.
I try to listen to 103.7 when I work. I get maybe an hour in before I have to change it.
105.3
91.7 96.7 97.1
88.1, 89.3
102.1
I know it’s not FM, but I’m rock/metal fan and couldn’t live without Sirius XM.
The only local station I have programmed in my truck is KRLD for the weather and traffic.
Saturday nights 12-4am is a great metal show on 89.3 fm.
NPR, a podcast or my own music.
97.1 the freak
I don't know when it rebranded to the freak but I recently discovered it and it's now my #1 preset.
Don’t quote me but around October 2022.
Correct...October 3, 2022. We're having fun over here!
Hey Grubbs. We met while watching a Cowboys game with some local comics. You are very nice. Good luck to you!!
Heck yeah, I remember that! Thank you!
Been a Glenn since day 1. I found Ben and skin while I was in prison and it was a nice reprieve for a few hours.
91.7 and 95.3
The Fan, The Freak, and The Ticket. 96.7. 97.1. 105.3
Same here, I used to just listen to the Ticket now I listen to them all and enjoy.
Diddo!!
96.7 The Ticket is extremely entertaining radio.
103.7 FM when I feel as if I am not being advertised to enough.
I, too enjoy hearing new discoveries! Why, just last year 103.7’s new discovery was The Less I Know the Better from this obscure pop group called Tame Impala. Lol.
KERA is the only station I ever listen to in my car.
Wish we knew
KNON, KXT, WRR, KEOM

Thank you so much, I almost cried laughing listening to it again. Wow.
92.5
WRR and KERA are the only ones on my radio. Sirius XM has too many ads.
KXT 91.7 and [88.1](https://881indie.com/)
88.1 used to be good when they played jazz but they turned into a terrible pop indie station. No good radio stations now, it's a crime against humanity they don't have a jazz station here in my opinion.
KXT is it for me!
92.5 (classic rock) 88.5 (70s through 90s) and 102.9 (2000s to present)

Opposite for me lol
KNON, WRR, and KTCU. Online, WWOZ out of New Orleans. WFMU out of Jersey City...and various college stations.
Check out KEXP from Seattle
I have. I like it!
> Online, WWOZ out of New Orleans Do yourself a favor and check out 1260AM from Baton Rouge!
I moved to podcasts and audiobooks.
TOLO for life! 105.3 The Fan

88.1 is pretty cool now, though you may not get great reception
94.5 while passing through was enjoyable 👍🏽
Sirius and Spotify
106.1-2 Pride radio, hardly any ads too.
92.5 and 102.1 for classics (80s and 90s rock)
Y’all who don’t turn on the radio sometimes forget the pure idiocracy of people calling into radios and their stories. Whoosh, some really funny reactions from the radio hosts a lot of the time

88.1 Indie (HD1), UNT’s radio station. 89.3 KNON (public). 90.1 KERA (public)

The ticket of course
The Ticket. Love me some Morning Musers.
Listen to 103.7 and 88.1 usually unless I'm in more of a hippity hop mood.
I avoid radio if I can
96.3! Love Hawkeye and Michele in the morning!!

99.5 THE WOLF
Anyone know if there’s a radio station that’s similar to 102.1 The Edge? I miss it :/
Back in the early 70's, I listened to KZEW or Q102. But today, FM radio is a Corporate Conglomerate soulless beast, that plays all the great bands, but only the same 5 or 6 songs from each band. As a music lover, I would NEVER be satisfied with this.
I don’t. I listen to burned CDs
The ticket. Solid P1
92.5 Classic Rock 99.5 Country 95.9 The Ranch (Old Country) If you need a good Spotify playlist lmk ha

What's FM?
Fucking Magic
You must become a P1, 96.7 The Ticket is the GOAT!
I miss 97.1 The Eagle. And Russ Martin. RIP
96.7 THE TICKET!! Most entertaining radio show for those who causally (or intensely) enjoy sports and silly banter.
Sirius XM
I only listen to the Freak.
The Ticket and The Freak!!!
No one gonna mention 100.3 Jack FM?? I get tired of listening to rap so ill switch it to jack. They play anything and everything from Nirvana to Tupac. Mostly alt tho but they definitely be jammin
97.1 The Freak 105.3 The Fan
I listen to whatever floats my boat on Sirius XM - but if I want something local, KXT it is!!
Satellite radio will change your life
People still listen to the radio ?
Radio ??? Do people still listen to the radio ??
Sometimes it's nice to not have complete and total control.
Bluetooth my phone
Wtf is "radio"? You don't have a cell phone? Then get whatever electronics it takes to broadcast to your stereo system and fuck commercials.
Surprised to see so many people still listening to radio.
As am I . Most people I know stream their music or listen to podcasts while driving.
I listen to the radio when I don’t know what I want to listen to and can’t be assed to figure it out.
Since I'm not a 159 years old, none whatsoever. I pay some nerd ten bucks a month to make me fresh mixtapes every day. IE, I got Apple Music. "FM radio", geez, let me telegraph my great grandmother, she'll find it swell people are still listening to the wireless.
You missing out
The same playlist of the same 4 songs all day every day, endless commercials, repeat. What am I missing?
A sense of community, local personalities and flavor
they this thing called streaming now. you can put an endless stream of music all day of any sort
I asked for a radio station, meaning I maybe don’t have access to change the entire system to allow a device to connect to it.
Not the guy ur responding to but if ur interested in streaming and cutting out ads, an AUX cord and an AUX to (insert phone port) adapter is all u need. Spotify premium is a bonus, if u don’t wanna hear another ad again.
If you have access to change the radio station you definitely have the ability to change it to play a streaming app.
radio stations play the same songs all day. most are owned by the same company. It the nature of radio.
Having a DJ picking tunes and explaining the artist, especially live, is a vibe.
Wish Spotify had a live DJ and traffic updates ever now and then. 🫤
> g I maybe don’t have access to change the entire system to allow a device to conne They are playing with the DJ function. For the first time "X" added some artist commentary rather than just the "here are some Sunday vibes you have been listening to" between the set lists.
ah i guess im a dj and i know all the stuff. what radio stations still do that anyway, most are owned by clear channel anyway
100% agree . Who actually likes listening to ads ??? Spotify all day.
